Charming Cottages in Coral Bay, Virgin Islands

Wonderful location for a family on a budget. Expanded deck with outdoor dining and lounging. Lower level renovated in 2018 with new half bath added and new flooring and deck! Gorgeous views of Coral Bay. Cute little cottage (this is not a luxury villa) sleeps up to 6: two on queen size bed in bedroom, two in king size bed in the loft, and two on the pullout futon. KJKitchen is fully stocked with all the necessary utensils, plates, cups, and cooking supplies.

This cottage sits at the bottom of the lot and thus has many steps (82) down to the unit. This cottage is probably not for the elderly.

The cottage has air conditioning throughout, with the exception of the screened in porch and screened-in bathroom - what a view from the full bathroom! The bathroom was also recently renovated.

Relax on the deck and porch while sipping cocktails looking at the boats anchored just below. Plenty of nearby restaurants and beaches to keep you busy all day long!

In order to keep our rental rates as low as they are, the cottage only comes with 1 bath towel, 1 washcloth, and 1 beach towel per registered guest per week and linens for the number of registered guests at arrival. The cottage does not include in-stay housekeeping or towel/linen service. If you would like in-stay cleaning services you can arrange that directly with our on-island managers at your own cost. Additionally, if you feel you may need more at your arrival, please ask when making your reservation to pre-pay for 1 additional of each towel per person per week ($50 for 2 guests, $75 for 4 guests, and $100 for 6 guests) and we will add that fee to your reservation. There are several laundromats on the island as well if you would prefer to clean your own towels during your stay.

For those who have been to St John before you can rest easy that the road to the house is a concrete straightaway with no switchbacks!

The cottage has everything that you need from cookware to toiletries and towels. Kat was amazing and made sure that we had everything we needed during our stay. We also used the snorkels that were provided at the property as well as the cooler. We packed lunches to have while at the beach and it was perfect. The only thing that I could possibly say negative about the cottage is the stairs. There are a lot of them so getting luggage up and down can be a little challenging, however, it was manageable and we were fully aware of the steps from other reviews. This property truly is great and was perfect for our family (kids ages 6 and 13)"

Each two-story house includes a bedroom and bathroom upstairs, living space and a fully equipped kitchen downstairs, and wrap-around decks on both floors from which to enjoy the views and stargazing.

- "My husband and I stayed at New Moon for our 36th wedding anniversary. We thoroughly enjoyed our time there. The house is clean and simple, but had everything we needed. We enjoyed the tropical landscaping, the beautiful craftsmanship that the owner put into building New Moon, and the laid back feel you get just being there. As others have mentioned, there is no air conditioning, but the fans (5 total) kept the island breezes moving. The shower had plenty of hot water and was refreshing. We bought 2 cases of water for drinking which we would recommend. The beach chairs were nice, plus there was a small ice chest and ice packs. There is a nice variety of movies and books. As far as games, they have checkers, backgammon, cribbage and chess. We appreciated that the house had soap, shampoo, conditioner, bug spray, and reef safe sun screen. The kitchen had plenty of utensils, pots, pans, etc. including storage containers, small Ziplock baggies, and foil. We used the grill, and it worked well. The hammock was uncomfortable. Staying at New Moon will definitely require going up and down a lot of steps. The house is easy to get to by Jeep.. If you've never been to St. John before, we would highly recommend it, and if you like to get away from the action, Coral Bay is the place to be! There are some great restaurant, and a few shops, but mostly you'll be relaxing. exploring the many beautiful beaches, snorkeling, hiking and living the dream!"

Salty Kisses & Goodnight Wishes is a one bedroom (with AC), fully equipped, home on the peaceful side of St. John, in lovely Coral Bay.
Coral Bay’s bars, restaurants and small shops are just a few minutes down the road and the North Shore beaches are short 10-minute drive away. And if you are seeking a bit more excitement Cruz Bay is not far and we can even arrange taxi service if you would like to plan a carefree night on the “town”.
While you can always enjoy a gentle breeze and very few bugs the house also features ceiling fans and AC.
The bedroom has a luxurious queen size bed, DISH television and DVD player, and offers beautiful views of the lush green mountains from the slider doors that lead to the expansive deck.
The living room is inviting and offers a carefully curated library of books that tell you the story of St. John (fiction and non fiction) as well as a collection of games, birding books and binoculars to enjoy the daily feathered visitors. The deck offers a lovely view of Coral Bay harbor and has a dining area as well as comfy outdoor sofa. In fact that is where we spend most of our time when we are there!

- "The property was even nicer than we had imagined. It looked out over Coral Bay, and located a short drive from restaurants and the town. Also not far from the spectacular north shore beaches. Amanda was lovely, and was keen to make sure everything went well for us. For those unfamiliar with the area, this location is at the other end of St John from the main town of Cruz Bay and the resorts. A jeep is not essential, but get something with power and clearance because the major roads are narrow, steep, and are either winding upwards or plunging downwards. Fortunately, Amanda's house is comparatively easy to access. The views as you drive around are spectacular. Roads there are populated by "wild" donkeys, goats, deer, iguanas, occassional hermit crabs, and other jeeps, which are also on the wrong side of the road. Fun places to eat are close by, as are markets to buy food. These are not suburban supermarkets, however, and the prices reflect how far the food has to travel to get to you. The people are a lot of fun, and get pizza at the Salty Mongoose and hang out there. You will need insect repellant esp around sunset, because of the no-see-ums. And coral-friendly sunblock. The best coral snorkeling is probably at Hawksnest, and Maho beach has turtles if you snorkel out toward where the boats moor. You can rent snorkel fins and mask for about ten dollars a day at the dive shack."

Bon Bini features a well-equipped kitchen, suitable for making meals during a relaxing evening in. The living area offers a cozy couch with views, air conditioning, an indoor dining table, and a private and spacious attached half bath. The kitchen, living room area, and half bathroom make up one building of Bon Bini Cottage.

The second building of the cottage is home to the private & quaint bedroom with attached full bathroom. Complete with a queen sized bed, it is outfitted with air conditioning to keep you cool after a day in the St. John sun. The attached bathroom (constructed in November 2024) offers an indoor shower, clothes washer/dryer and large vanity.

At Bon Bini Cottage, the private deck is the perfect place to enjoy a cup of coffee in the morning as the sun rises or listen to the enchanting sounds of tree frogs at night. Relaxing in the hot tub for two under the stars is a wonderful way to end the day. The outdoor shower showcases the view of Coral Bay while still being completely private. Lounging chairs to soak up the sun and an outdoor grill complete the space.

The cottage is also stocked with lots of beach gear, including: two beach chairs, four beach towels, a small cooler with ice packs, floats, and two paddleboards!

The property where Bon Bini Cottage is located is often visited by sheep, goats, donkeys, chickens, and tortoises. There is also lots of lizards/geckos and birds (thrashers, bananaquits, & hummingbirds) around at all times. Finally, it is important that we note to guests that a cat named Sebastian visits the cottage frequently and enjoys being pet. Sebastian has a comfortable home with plenty of food and water (he is not a stray cat!), but enjoys making his rounds at all the houses on the hillside. If you do not enjoy the company of roaming cats (or possibly other wildlife), Bon Bini Cottage may not be well-suited for your time on St. John.

The location of the cottage is the perfect mix of tranquility and convenience. A quick drive down the mountain leads you to the town of Coral Bay. Various restaurants (many with with live music), a grocery store, mini mart, and shops are all located within a five or ten minute drive. The beaches of the North Shore (including the notable Maho Bay and more secluded Francis Bay) are less than 15 minutes away. Visitors looking to enjoy the locals crowd on the beaches can venture to the East End of St. John or Salt Pond and Lameshur Bays in 20 minutes.

- "This was our 6th visit to St. John. The cottage was just what we needed. This is the first time we stayed on a property where the owner was actually onsite. Judy was a wonderful host! We were so grateful to have her staying in her apartment below us for our visit. Our trip was unusual as my husband had an accident and needed medical care. Judy was a tremendous support and resource for us! She even offered to drive us into the clinic. The porch on the cottage was a lovely spot to relax. And we made good use of it as my husband needed a day or two at homebase because of his injuries. Fergus, her little dog was so sweet! He would come up quietly when we would get back from the beach, greeting us, and welcoming us “home.” Once we said hello he toddled off. He’d just come up to say hello! Judy was there when we needed her but mostly busy with what she had going on, so it wasn’t intrusive at all having her below us. Despite my husband’s accident, we were able to relax and enjoy the rest of our stay. We loved that the home was self sufficient with energy and true to the concept of ecotourism, but still had the modern necessities. We cook in every night and we had everything we needed. I know that the constant fresh air that came through the cottage with those wonderful tropical breezes helped my husbands skin wounds to heal so much faster than if we had come back stateside right after his accident. Tradewinds is a quiet, peaceful, private 2 level one OR two bedroom cottage perched above John's Folly Bay in the scenic, tranquil southeastern corner of St. John. A 45 minute drive from Cruz Bay(ferry arrival point), we are five minutes past Coral Bay, a one minute drive to Salt Pond Beach and Ram's Head. Tradewinds features beautiful sunrises from the large deck and the gentle melody of waves on the beach below.

This charming wooden cottage features light, airy rooms with stunning ocean views throughout. The deck commands a panoramic view of the British Virgin Islands and a southeastern exposure offers breathtaking sunrises-if you're up that early! There are only a few other houses on our hillside, ensuring complete privacy in our cottage, with a few houses nearby in case one wanted to wave hello to our neighbors.

- "This was our fifth trip renting a home in St. John and our fourth staying in Coral Bay area. Tradewinds is our favorite to date! The house is well appointed and the interiors are up to date and very tasteful. It is very slightly trapezoid in plan which adds to the charm. We were a little concerned on booking that it did not have AC, but it was not an issue. There was steady breeze all day. In fact, it could be cool in the evening. The location was ideal for us, located between two of our favorite haunts, Miss Lucy's and Salt Pond, and close to the main road so getting in and out was a breeze (has been issue at other rentals). We were able to reach the northern and east end beaches in 20 minutes (don't miss Haulover north if you snorkel). We did not have any issues but the Owner checked in on us to make sure everything . We had a wonderful time and would definitely book again."

She had everything at the cottage that you could possibly need and gave great recommendations for snorkeling the bays. Back-up Power: The island's power company has been struggling since the hurricanes, and there are frequent island-wide outages, sometimes for several hours a day (the longest outages can last 24 hours). So, we installed two Tesla Powerwall back-up batteries for our solar panels which means you will should not even notice when the power goes out on island. There will be no noisy generator to spoil your peace and quiet. And the best thing is that you will not have to run around in the dark looking for flashlights, or refrain from using the water for doing dishes and showering for typical outages of 2-4 hours in length. You should have enough power to use the lights, water, fans, refrigeration, stove and oven, but you will still need to conserve power by not using hair dryers, microwaves, AC, etc.

Flexible Accommodations: Stonegarden Cottage consists of upper and lower levels, so you can book the Whole House for parties of 4-6, or just the Upper Level for parties of 2-4. We do not rent the Lower Level separately to ensure that you and your party will have maximum privacy, with only one family/party in the cottage at any given time. However, there is a very small chance that the owner might be using the lower level while you're there. Christmas and New Year's Weeks: Whole House only, 7 night minimum stay required.

Upper Level: The fully-equipped, eat-in kitchen opens out onto the deck where you will dine or just relax while gazing at one of the most beautiful views in all the Caribbean, with an ever-changing light show of turquoise water and sundrenched islands.

The master bedroom with queen-size, four-poster bed and large, fully tiled bath has an expansive island view through a picture window. The enclosed Caribbean open-air garden shower blends traditional stonework with the tropical environment.

Off the living room, there is a 2nd bedroom (called the bunk room ) with twin-sized bunk bed and ample closet space. It has its own tiled bathroom - the open shower ceiling lets in the Caribbean sun and balmy breezes. This room is suitable for two children.

As an alternative to the bunk room, we offer a comfortable queen sized sofa bed with gel mattess in the living room. From here there is easy access to the bunk room bathroom.

Upper Level Rates: The rate quote you receive from VRBO is for 2 adults and 2 children under 18 only. The max number of guests in the Upper Level is 4, with the exception of adding one child age 6 or under. When you add a third child, you will be charged an additional $50 per night. We can accommodate one small child age 6 or under on a kids-sized air mattress that can be placed in the master bedroom. Additionally, you may substitute up to two adults for two children, however you will be charged an additional $50 per night per adult by the owner. The Upper Level is not air conditioned, simply because there is so much breeze at 500 ft above sea level, and with the house facing due east to catch the trade winds all year round, there is no need for energy consuming AC. The cottage has ceiling fans in every room to keep the air flowing, and create a comfortable environment.

Outside Amenities: Walkways from the front door lead you to our NEW HOT TUB/SPA, a spa deck for lounging and the stone paths and trails of Guavaberry Woods, where you'll enjoy bananas and papayas, tropical flowers and native shade trees. There's also plenty of trails to explore (see below).

Onsite Nature Trails: The best of St. John’s natural beauty and astonishing biodiversity lies on-site at your doorstep. A trellised archway of hanging tropical flowers greets you as you enter and walk down a short stone stairway to the front door. The large (2/3 acre) hillside property is an ecological wonderland that invites wandering -- beautiful hand-crafted stone paths and gravel trails on several different levels lead you through the lush hardwood foliage of Guavaberry Woods, where picturesque and unique ponds, a meditation garden, bridge and benches, plus gardens of orchids, frangipani, hibiscus, bougainvillea, citrus and tropical fruit trees delight the eye.

Cool Retreat: Steady trade-winds, an easterly view and the lush surrounding forest make Stonegarden Cottage a comfortable tropical getaway year-round -- cool, quiet and peaceful. - "I could sit on the deck all day and all night. You will be in awe. Coffee on the deck in the morning to watch the sunrise. Beer on the deck at night to watch the stars. AC is not needed. The trade winds were perfect. Watching our beach towels drying off with the trade winds from the bedroom window with an unbelievable view of Corral Bay gave us the most relaxing feeling. The property managers were very helpful with our questions and teaching us how to park. We loved all the goats, chickens, donkeys and horse that freely roamed in corral bay. The property manager did tell us to shop in Cruz bay for food. I wish we did that as there is not much in Corral Bay. I wish we took more advantage of the grill on the deck. But, we mostly ate lunch at the beaches with a painkiller. Awesome stay."

Skyloft, a modern vacation cottage newly constructed in 2015, is perched on a tropical hillside 600 feet above Coral Bay one mile from the Virgin Islands National Park. It is one-half mile from the shops and restaurants of Coral Bay. The home consists of two buildings, a kitchen and a bedroom/bathroom. There is a spacious tile deck, a back deck shaded area, and external grilling kitchen, and a 12-foot diameter freshwater pool. There are two tropical outdoor showers. Access to the Skyloft deck and the spectacular view is by way of three flights of stairs from the cement parking area.

Many Coral Bay Restaurants, such as Skinny Legs, Rhum Lines/Indigo Grill, Oasis, Danforth and Aqua Bistro, are less than one mile away.

A 10 minute drive northwest brings you to the Maho, Cinnamon, and Trunk Bay beaches. A 10 minute drive east brings you to Salt Pond Beach. Also within this radius are hiking trails, plantation ruins, water sports rentals, restaurants, bars and shops.

The Skyloft indoor kitchen includes a sink, a 2-burner stove top, a small microwave, blender, toaster, a unique, full-capacity, under-counter refrigerator/freezer, cabinets and eat-in counter space for 2. There is a small but complete inventory of cooking pans and pots along with necessary utensils and plates.

The outdoor kitchen features a built-in gas grill, a sink and electricity. There is a sheltered outdoor dining/lounging area between the two buildings. Skyloft is specifically designed for guests seeking privacy and elegant outdoor living.

The bedroom is a separate, enclosed, fully-screened building with a queen-sized bed, ceiling-fan, air conditioning, two closets, and an enclosed bathroom featuring access to an outdoor shower. The outdoor shower has stunning views of Coral Bay, Hurricane Hole, Tortola, Norman Island, Peter Island and the Sir Francis Drake Channel.

The large tiled outdoor deck is perfect for lounging, dining and relaxing. At the east end of the deck is a 12-foot diameter freshwater pool. The second outdoor shower is by the pool.

Skyloft faces Northeast. The sun travels behind the property in the southern sky, providing natural shade for the deck in the morning and in the afternoon. There is all-day shade in the outdoor dining area and off to the side of the deck beyond the external grilling kitchen.

The property is secluded and private, surrounded by a lush tropical forest.

IMPORTANT: A car rental is required, which is standard for getting around St. John and making the most of your vacation. We STRONGLY recommend renting a 4WD since roads are a mix of pavement and dirt. A 2-door Jeep is best for maneuvering/parking. NOTE 1: Guests are responsible for travel to Coral Bay. Schedule pickup of your Jeep upon arrival. PMs are unable to chauffeur guests, and taxi service to Coral Bay is limited. NOTE 2: There are 2 exterior cameras: #1 is on the deck's roof pointed at the BVIs and horizon. Its use is for capturing the view. #2 is pointed at the cottage's driveway to monitor for security/trespassing. Audio is OFF on both cameras.

Coral Bay Vista was hand-crafted by award-winning artisans Doug White, who flew to Guatemala to hand-pick the trees to mill for the home, and Dave Carlson, and the home is truly a work of art. It is a gorgeous high-end studio made in the traditional Caribbean style from Guatemalan hardwoods and stone and seashell walls. It has expansive views of Coral Bay and beyond to the British Virgin Islands.

The kitchen has beautiful mahogany cabinets and granite countertops, and you’ll find everything you need for cooking and fine dining indoors or out. Note that there is a gas cooktop in the kitchen, but no oven. There is also a high end outdoor kitchen with a DCS grill and a firepit on the patio. The villa is designed to capture the constant trade winds that cool the house, assuring you’ll be comfortable night and day. Welcome to your dream destination where views and amenities abound! This cottage is perfect for two and will accommodate up to four adults with guest 3 and 4 in the loft queen bed. The Little Easy is 100% yours for the entire stay and not attached to another house. All Children or young adults must be 12 years old or older, no exceptions! The second Bedroom requires going up a ships ladder to access the loft bedroom. This bedroom is two levels from the Master bedroom and only accessed outside if trying to get to the master bedroom from the loft level!
A full kitchen can accommodate everything from gourmet creations to simple, yet elegant. The upper deck provides a casual seating area coupled with "al fresco" dining for four while the lower sun deck is just outside the Master bedroom; both providing a scenic view of the sailboats coming to harbor in Coral Bay. The Master bedroom (Queen Bed only, VRBO can't seem to fix the verbiage saying King) is separate from the living area downstairs. There is Air Conditioning in the Master Bedroom. The provisional beach chairs and floats are yours to enjoy as you explore this beautiful island. Most beaches are a short 10-15 minute drive where as most restaurants, bars, and a grocery stores are a short 3 to 5 min drive.

You need to rent a Jeep or 4x4 like for you trip. Taxi's are few are far between and very expensive.. You can Google "car rental St. John USVI". We recommend Courtesy car rental, they have a web site.
If your booking is less that 60 Days out you should reserve a Jeep before booking the Cottage as you may be left walking if you do not! The Island only has so many Jeeps!

We have numerous storage areas in a compact home with a a view that rivals any on the island. At Windwardside Guest Cottage you will wake up in a four poster bed to a gorgeous view of the Caribbean sea framed by palm trees. You could easily create a post card from the view of this adorable cottage.
The interior has a queen-size, four-poster bed, a small seating area, a kitchenette and a breakfast bar. The furnishings are both tasteful and cheerful. The covered porch has a dining area and two lounging chairs where you can enjoy the trade winds or good book while watching the sailboats pass by. For a fun experience visit Miss Lucy's on the way to Salt Pond and by the way go to Salt Pond and gather your own Salt. Great fun. Finally for a truly great experience buy a fish from the fisherman on the side of the road in Coral Bay (yellow tail snapper was our favorite), A bottle of wine from Love City and grill you fish on the Barbie at the cottage. Summertime Rolls is a cozy, tranquil Caribbean cottage with views of Johnson Bay, Hurricane Hole, the east end of St. John, and the BVIs. It's well appointed with mini-split A/C; UV water system for clean water; and a well-equipped, good-sized bright kitchen. Comfortably accommodates two people. Great location close to beaches, snorkeling, hiking trails, and the restaurants and bars of Coral Bay. Enjoy sunrises and fall asleep to the sounds of ocean waves and the surrounding forest.

Summertime Rolls also provides guests with a variety of beach gear, including: beach chairs, a beach umbrella, beach towels, and cooler with ice packs. We recommend renting snorkel gear and fins from either Beach Bum in Cruz Bay (next to the passenger ferry) or Crabby's Watersports in Coral Bay.

If traveling with another couple, the owners own the neighboring cottage, Here Comes the Sun (VRBO# 1016864), which accommodates up to two people.

IMPORTANT: A car/Jeep rental with 4WD is required, which is standard for getting around St. John and necessary for Coral Bay. A 2-door is strongly recommended for maneuvering/parking. NOTE 1: Guests are responsible for travel to Coral Bay. Schedule pickup of your Jeep upon arrival. Property managers are unable to chauffeur guests, and taxi service to Coral Bay is very limited. NOTE 2: There is an external camera on roof pitch that captures road, driveway & parking to monitor for security and trespassing. There's a second external camera attached to the deck's roof, pointed to the BVIs/view, and audio is OFF so nothing is seen/heard on the deck.

We only cooked for breakfast then the rest of the day we were out exploring and ate out for dinner. We rented a jeep to get us around the island. Our secluded cottage has amazing, panoramic views of the British Virgin Islands and the East end of St John, near beautiful Coral Bay, St. John, USVI. Perched above Johns Folly Bay, the wrap-around decks on the top floor provide space for outdoor dining and lounging, all with unbeatable views! The gentle trade winds make the private decks a perfect place to relax, day or night, and watch the amazing sun and moon rises. The star gazing is fantastic.

Large picture windows provide unobstructed views. Screened louvers are cleverly placed below the windows, so the comfortable breeze can naturally cool the cottage without obscuring your view.

The kitchen has a stovetop, oven, full-sized refrigerator, microwave, coffee maker, and all the supplies you’ll need to feel at home. Also upstairs is a dining area, a half-bath, a couch and smart TV. FAST Starlink internet/wi-fi throughout the cottage.

On the lower level is the air-conditioned bedroom with an ensuite bath and a shower big enough for two – with a view! There’s also a covered deck off the bedroom, and a third, lower deck perfect for sunbathing or lounging in privacy. Both lower levels are accessed with exterior stairs, typical in most Carribean homes.

Sugar Bird Cottage is a tranquil escape perfect for relaxing on the quiet side of St. John. Yet it’s only minutes from Miss Lucy’s restaurant, Pizzabar in Paradise, and Calabash Market. 10 minutes to Coral Bay’s restaurants, bars, shops, and equipment rentals. The cottage is less than 1 mile to one of the best beaches on the island, Salt Pond Beach, and the scenic Ram Head trail. A few minutes further brings you into the National Park with more beaches and hikes to explore – the most secluded on the island.

The cottage is located near the end of a quiet, private, paved road. No traffic noise or bumpy, steep, rocky roads that require 4-wheel drive. Sugar Bird is a peaceful getaway – surrounded by nature, the sound of the ocean below, and expansive views of the Caribbean Sea dotted with islands.

Please note that there are a few flights of steps down to the cottage and decks, so mobility is required.

- "Our second stay at Sugar Bird - as relaxing as the first, though no hurricane this time! Great spot" - "This is the must magical place I have been in the USA. The picture are nothing to compare to reality. The view from the kitchen and bedroom are amazing, words can not discribe. Exclusive, quiet, clean and, with everything you need. Towels, toilet treat, Beach equipment like chairs, snorkles, cooler etc... Every guess has left things like shampoo and sun screen. So you wont have to worry about packing this things in your suitcase. The road to get there is curby, ups and down hills so, if you suffer with motion sickness I recoment to take some Dramamine with you, I did and, I was fine. The breeze you get from the ocean feels so good when sitting on the patio, the sound of the waves and, birds in the morning is so relaxing. If you are looking to relax and enjoy your self, this is without doubt the place to be. Jennifer the owner, was great. Every time I had a question she was one message away and, reply very quickly. To be honest, I would it have been just as happy if I didnt leave the house. The Concordial area is beautiful and, has beautiful beaches and, trails to walk. This house is as advertised with plenty of space and spectacular views of John Folly’s Bay (and the British Virgin Islands in the distance) from both levels of house with lots of outdoor seating options. The picture window from the main bedroom downstairs was nothing short of breathtaking. Also, it was quiet. We heard the ocean 24 hours a day, crickets at night, and the gentle rustling of leaves (and palm fronds) from the breeze through nearby trees. The house was well stocked with all supplies, accessories, and linens any houseguest would need. Finally, a shout-out to the property manager who was a lifesaver! Not only was she friendly and responsive to all questions, she offered to drive (with us following in our rented Jeep) to the property on the first day. (We arrived near dark and would have easily gotten lost.) This was after she met us at one of the grocery stores and encouraged us to take our time buying whatever groceries we might want at the house. Overall, we enjoyed our stay at Horizons cottage. We would definitely stay there again."

The Islands do lose power periodically so we are equipped with a generator which will be implemented by the property manager during such power interruptions.

- "Aqua Vista is located right on the water in Coral Bay. Ocean kayaking included with the stay and we paddled every day ! Jim (Host) was extremely helpful as well " - "Jim's property exceeded our expectations on all counts! The house is on Johnson's Bay, overlooking the East End and Norman Island. The views are spectacular in all directions. Coral Bay with its stores, restaurants and bars is a quick 5 minute drive. The house had everything we wanted in a vacation house, including an ice maker. Having the pool was a plus after a hot day at the beach. Each bedroom had its own bathroom. The kitchen was well stocked with everything we needed. The outdoor grille was brand new and worked great! There were multiple outdoor sitting areas to either be in the sun or get away from the sun. Jim was a great host and made sure we had everything we needed for a wonderful two week vacation at his property! We plan on returning next year!"

At Calabash Cottages we specialize in private getaways for two guests. Tortuga is a cheerful and welcoming cottage with a gorgeous view of Coral Bay Harbor. This cottage has wonderful breezes, beautiful sunrises and moon rises, covered and uncovered decks plus a “hammock garden”. There is a private hot tub overlooking the Caribbean sea. For those who are familiar with Calabash Cottages, Tortuga Cottage is not in the same Calabash Boom location. The cottage is located just outside of Coral Bay. Although private, it is not as remote and secluded as Sago and Windwardside. On the other hand for our guests that have bemoaned the bumpy road, Tortuga could be your choice! This road is entirely paved and within walking distance of several bars and restaurants. With fabulous views from the living room bedroom and porch Tortuga is great honeymoon choice.

IMPORTANT INFO ABOUT RATES AND POLICIES: Our rental week runs from Sunday to Sunday. We have two rates: Low season from April 16 to December 14 and High season from December 15 to April 15 and those rates are as listed.. The only additional charge is 12.5% hotel tax. We do not collect a damage deposit. Our 20 year relationship with guests has taught us that this is not necessary. We treat our guests with respect and we have found that they return the favor. There are no extra costs for reservations, cleaning or service. If you encounter any additional charges when requesting a detailed quote it would be from the advertising site where you found us. Calabash Cottages is an established company and information about our rentals is easily found.

Car Rentals: Since the purchase of Homeaway and VRBO by Expedia we have seen an attachment at the bottom of our ads with them encouraging guests to book car rentals through their site. Because of our unique location we strongly advise against that. You do need a 4 wheel drive vehicle. We have for over 20 years done business with a very reliable company, Courtesy Car Rental. We believe in them enough that we forgo the commission they would give us and to apply it as a discount to your car rental. Please discuss car rentals with us before reserving. Our most important interest is in satisfying our customers. But the recent take over of our advertising sites by large corporations is constructing communication barriers. The tiny cottage itself is one living space with a kitchenette (compact fridge, induction burner, toaster oven, micro, coffee), queen size bed and full bath. Think of it like a free-standing hotel room with a nice little outside space, a great valley view and a gas grill. Everyone is welcome at our place but, because of the size, it's probably best for 1-2 active people who are planning to explore the island during the day and really just need a handy island headquarters. We're a five minute drive (or less) to the shops and restaurants in Coral Bay BUT our road is only partially paved and pretty steep so you should FOR SURE ABSOLUTELY 100% rent a small 4WD jeep and just take it slow.
There's no TV, but we do have streamable WiFi as well as a small bluetooth speaker for you to use. You'll find also find yoga mats, beach chairs and a cooler provided for your use. Coral Heaven in beautiful Coral Bay is a large, air-conditioned studio, located in the peaceful Sea Grape Hill neighborhood. Clean and comfortable with a fully equipped kitchen; several restaurants, shops and supermarkets are minutes away. Whether you prefer the North Shore, South Shore or the quiet beaches out on East End, Coral Heaven is centrally located to them all. Beach chairs, beach towels and a cooler are provided. The deck offers a gorgeous view for morning coffee or outdoor dining.

The space
The studio is large with a kitchen and dining area, a loveseat and smart TV, a comfortable queen size bed and a private bathroom.

Guest access
Coral Heaven "Sunrise" is the upper unit of a 2-story house. It has a completely separate entrance with a set of stairs directly from your parking pad.

Other things to note
There are a set of stairs that lead from the parking pad to the house. The stairway is lit with a switch at the top as well as a switch by your doorway entrance

This very small 1 BR cottage lives BIG with a screened porch, SOLAR POWER, valley views, ac, dishwasher, outdoor fitness, and plunge pool. With a clean modern vibe, Sweet Spice is more laidback getaway than luxury villa. It’s an ideal HQ for 2 active STJ adventurers - but with a few extra amenities! Located off the beaten path on the quiet side of STJ, it feels secluded but is only a 5 minute drive to the shops of Coral Bay. Note: road is rough and requires a 4WD and there are LOTS of stairs.

The space
Sweet Spice is a very small, but very cool private cottage in the hills above Coral Bay. Please note: it is accessed by a long set of garden steps heading down from a driveway that is shared with another little cottage. The driveway is the only shared space.

Sweet Spice is equipped with solar panels and batteries so no worries about island power outages or noisy generators. We average over 90% energy independence!

The main floor consists of an open-plan kitchen and living area as well as a powder room and screened in porch (with a dining table and couch). The porch overlooks a plunge pool and patio. The main level has AC but the vaulted ceilings, many windows, two ceiling fans and tradewinds help keep it cool so we find we rarely need it.

The bedroom has AC as well as a queen bed and full bathroom. It’s located on the pool level below the main living area. In true Caribbean style the bedroom is accessed by an exterior stone staircase. This means you have to go outside to get to the bedroom. Not sure why this is a thing, but it is. Luckily the weather is pretty great!

The salt-system pool is almost hilariously small but it is FANTASTIC for lounging, floating and plunging. Laps…not so much.

Everyone is welcome at our place but there are a LOT of outdoor stairs to navigate so please be sure you’ll feel comfortable doing that! We’re a five minute drive (or less) to the shops and restaurants in Coral Bay BUT our road is only partially paved and pretty steep so you should FOR SURE ABSOLUTELY 100% rent a small 4WD jeep and just take it slow.

Other things to note
It is highly recommended that you rent a Jeep or similar SUV for your island adventure. Small cars are inappropriate for many of St. John's roads. I recommended Courtesy Car Rental which provides the best service of all.

If you choose to book our farm cottage, then you are playing an important role in helping us rebuild the infrastructure of our farming operation that was completely destroyed in the major hurricanes of 2017. Welcome to the Windwardside Guest Cottage, a charming little cottage that enjoys gorgeous views of the east end of St. John, the neighboring British Virgin Islands and Coral Bay. This home can be rented in conjunction with the main house at Windwardside or alone as your own little piece of paradise. The lush tropical plantings, built in privacy screening and the orientation of the buildings seclude them from one another. The guest cottage is very appealingly furnished, has a private hot tub, an airy enclosed shower garden and a comfortable front porch overlooking the sea.

Our goal in constructing Windwardside Guest Cottage was to provide a romantic haven packed with amenities but at a reasonable price. We have many honeymoon guests that choose Windwardside Guest Cottage for precisely this reason. It is a budget home that won't make you feel like you have made any compromises. But the cottage is not only for honeymoon couples - it is a quaint and lovely cottage for any visitors to the island that want an intimate experience of our beautiful island with a gorgeous view.

We have numerous seating areas in a compact home with a a view that rivals any on the island. At Windwardside Guest Cottage you will wake up in a four poster bed to a gorgeous view of the Caribbean sea framed by palm trees. You could easily create a post card from the view of this adorable cottage.

The interior has a queen-size, four-poster bed, a small seating area, a kitchenette and a breakfast bar. The furnishings are both tasteful and cheerful. The covered porch has a dining area and two lounging chairs where you can enjoy the trade winds or a good book while watching the sailboats pass by. A small gas grill is also available if you prefer to prepare your meals overlooking the sea. A shower garden opens onto an uncovered deck. There you can have a relaxing evening soak in the hot tub under a starry Caribbean sky. The hot tub also has a wide view of the sea and total privacy.

One of the best values on St. John! Summertime Rolls is a cozy, tranquil Caribbean cottage with views of Johnson Bay, Hurricane Hole, St. John's east end, and the BVIs. It's a small cottage, but with the windows and vaulted white ceilings it feels open, bright and airy. The screen doors at both ends and large sliding screen facing the ocean offer nice breezes. It's a great space for a couple looking for no frills but basic conveniences: well-equipped kitchen, AC, fans, shaded deck with ocean views, Wi-Fi, BBQ, entertainment (ukulele, HBO, Netflix, Prime TV, games, books, DVDs), beach equipment, towels and linens, closet space. The kitchen is separate from the bedroom, and the outdoor shower is truly outdoors for a real island experience. Outside, critters (toads, deers, tortoises, crabs, iguanas, various birds, hawks, butterflies, geckos) roam the grounds, making the wildlife as fun to watch as the ocean view!

Bon Bini features a well-equipped kitchen, suitable for making meals during a relaxing evening in. The living area offers a cozy couch with views, air conditioning, an indoor dining table, and a private and spacious attached half bath. The kitchen, living room area, and bathroom make up one building of Bon Bini Cottage.

The second building of the cottage is home to the private & quaint bedroom with attached full bathroom. Complete with a queen sized bed, it is outfitted with air conditioning to keep you cool after a day in the St. John sun. The attached bathroom (constructed in November 2024) offers an indoor shower, clothes washer/dryer and large vanity.

At Bon Bini Cottage, the private deck is the perfect place to enjoy a cup of coffee in the morning as the sun rises or listen to the enchanting sounds of tree frogs at night. Relaxing in the hot tub for two under the stars is a wonderful way to end the day. The outdoor shower showcases the view of Coral Bay while still being completely private. Lounging chairs to soak up the sun and an outdoor grill complete the space.

The property where Bon Bini Cottage is located is often visited by sheep, goats, donkeys, chickens, and tortoises. There is also lots of lizards/geckos and birds (thrashers, bananaquits, & hummingbirds) around at all times. Finally, it is important that we note to guests that a cat named Sebastian visits the cottage frequently and enjoys being pet. Sebastian has a comfortable home with plenty of food and water (he is not a stray cat!), but enjoys making his rounds at all the houses on the hillside. If you do not enjoy the company of roaming cats (or possibly other wildlife), Bon Bini Cottage may not be well-suited for your time on St. John.

Here Comes the Sun is just a short drive from Coral Bay shops, restaurants and bars. It's an island escape a little off the beaten path yet conveniently located to some of the best beaches and trails St. John offers. Its hillside perch allows breezes, magnificent sunrises and ocean views of the East End and BVIs. Relax on the deck, sip a cocktail, and listen to sounds from the bordering jungle. (A 2-door 4WD is required.)

The cottage offers comforts of home but with a vacation/island vibe to feel "away from it all." Sunrises can be spectacular; the stars at night fill the sky. The space
Back-up Power: The island's power company has been struggling since the hurricanes, and there are frequent island-wide outages, sometimes for several hours a day (the longest outages can last 24 hours). So, we installed two Tesla Powerwall back-up batteries for our solar panels which means you will should not even notice when the power goes out on island. There will be no noisy generator to spoil your peace and quiet. And the best thing is that you will not have to run around in the dark looking for flashlights, or refrain from using the water for doing dishes and showering for typical outages of 2-4 hours in length. You should have enough power to use the lights, water, fans, refrigeration, stove and oven, but you will still need to conserve power by not using hair dryers, microwaves, AC, etc.

Upper Level: The fully-equipped, eat-in kitchen opens out onto the deck where you will dine or just relax while gazing at one of the most beautiful views in all the Caribbean, with an ever-changing light show of turquoise water and sundrenched islands.

Walk out the kitchen onto a dining deck with a phenomenal view of the islands and harbor below, where you will want to spend every evening gazing up at the constellations or to watching the moonrise over the VI National Park and Coral Bay Harbor. There is a full-sized dining table and 6 chairs, a chaise lounge and 2 deck chairs on the deck for your use, as well as four yoga mats to spread out for your morning yoga routine.

A large living room space has a picture window looking out over the islands and harbor below, as well as a pass through to the kitchen with counter height stools. The cottage is decorated with beautiful Caribbean art and stained glass windows designed and built by the owner.

The master bedroom with queen-size, four-poster bed and private, fully tiled bath has an expansive island view through a picture window. The enclosed Caribbean garden shower blends traditional stonework with the tropical environment.

Off the living room, there is a 2nd bedroom (called the bunk room ) with twin sized bunk bed and ample closet space. It has its own tiled bathroom - the open shower ceiling lets in the Caribbean sun and balmy breezes.

Whole House Rates: The rate quote you receive from AirBNB is for 4 adults and 2 children under 18 only. The max number of guests in the Whole House is 6, with the exception of adding one child age 6 or under. When you add a third child, you will be charged an additional $50 per night. We can accommodate one small child age 6 or under on a kids-sized air mattress that can be placed in the master bedroom. Additionally, you may substitute up to two adults for two children, however you will be charged an additional $50 per night per adult by the owner. We can accommodate up to two adults on our queen sized sofa bed. For parties of 2 adults and 2 children under 18, you may want to consider booking our Upper Level (which excludes our lower level apartment). Rates vary according to the season and can be changed without notice.

The Upper Level is not air conditioned, simply because there is so much breeze at 500 ft above sea level, and with the house facing due east to catch the trade winds all year round, there is no need for energy consuming AC. The cottage has ceiling fans in every room to keep the air flowing, and create a comfortable environment.

Outside amenities: Walkways from the front door lead you to our NEW HOT TUB/SPA and TIKI BAR, a spa deck for lounging and the stone paths and trails of Guavaberry Woods, where you'll enjoy bananas and papayas, tropical flowers and native shade trees. There's also a tire swing for the kids and plenty of trails to explore. (See below for more descriptions).

Lower Level: Private and quiet, this charming apartment is air-conditioned, has tasteful decor, art by Caribbean artists, stained-glass windows and beautiful views to the British Virgins. Enjoy the comfortable amenities of a queen-size bed, private bath with shower, a fully equipped kitchenette, dining table and chairs, and comfortable reading chair and lamp. You'll especially enjoy the private dining deck with its bistro table and chairs, lovely harbor view, a private garden with a grill, and direct access to the trails of Guavaberry Woods. The Lower Level has its own separate entrance, driveway and parking space. It's also accessible from the Upper Level deck by a side staircase. The unit was built underneath the deck of the main house and with solid cypress ceiling panels to ensure you peace and quiet.

IMPORTANT NOTICES:

1. Taxes: The US Virgin Islands charges a 12.5% Hotel Tax that we must apply to your rental. Airbnb will accept this tax but if it is not listed as an Occupancy Charge in your Airbnb quotation, we must collect this Hotel Tax through a separate channel.

2. Travel Insurance: We highly recommend Travel Insurance for any unexpected problems such as family emergencies or rare severe weather-related problems. We cannot be held responsible for refunds of any kind due to these or other like occurrences.

3. Rental Agreement: You will be required to sign our standard rental agreement and liability waiver. Once you book with Airbnb, we will send you our standard terms and conditions via DocuSign for your endorsement. We will require your name, physical address, actual email, and phone number.

4. Satisfaction: We like to speak to our guests in person on the phone before we book Mooncottage. This is often not possible due to Airbnb rules and regulations. Therefore, if for any reason you are not comfortable with anything once we DO speak on the phone after your Airbnb reservation is made online, then we will gladly refund your reservation deposit promptly with a cancellation made by you. We reserve reciprocal rights to cancel for any reason prior to your signing our Standard Rental Agreement and Liability Waiver. Please note that our Rental Agreement will supersede any prior agreements.

5. Our guests stay for 7 nights or more, 5 night stays are available with an additional short-stay surcharge of $250.

We are the only "Mooncottages" on St. John and are easy to find if you want to talk.

Other things to note
We will answer all questions with the Airbnb message portal, but we prefer to speak to our guests personally on the phone before they book to ensure they understand everything about the villa, the locale, and St John in general. After booking, we work closely with our guests to ensure a flawless vacation and help you with details like rental cars and general Virgin Islands information. You will be escorted to the Mooncottage upon arrival to St John by our property manager.
