Traharta House and Cottage sit snugly into the base of a green cliff and look South East over tranquil Traharta Cove to Flea and Horse Islands and the entrance to Castletownshend Harbour. There are uninterrupted views of Skiddy, High and Low Islands and on a clear day you can see Gallows Head Lighthouse, some 20 miles away. Set in their own one and a half acre garden, Traharta House and Cottage have a 100 meter water frontage. The house, refurbished in 2019 to a high standard, is comfortably furnished in a contemporary coastal theme. The cottage was re-built in 1999, again to a high standard of facilities and comfort. Either property is perfect for a relaxing holiday and as a base for touring. Both are light and airy and well equipped. The properties are completely independent and are let separately, but both can be booked at the same time for a group of up to 10 people.
The picturesque village of Castletownshend is 2km away with two delightful pubs, two good restaurants and a general store. The thriving market town of Skibbereen is only 6miles. Here you will find shops specializing in gourmet foods of all kinds from freshly caught fish, to locally made cheeses, breads and cakes. There are Fields, Lidl and Aldi supermarkets as well as delightful little coffee shops, delis, gourmet restaurants and of course pubs. The Saturday Skibbereen market is definitely worth a visit.
The house features a full length front patio, a large side patio and a paved terrace roof, all of which have uninterrupted views of the surrounding farm land, water and islands. The open plan entrance, dining and living areas are flooded with light from the glass wall to the side patio and are ideal for holiday living. The focal point is an efficient wood burner set in an alcove which is surrounded by comfy sofas and chairs. The dining area has access to the galley kitchen via an ample counter top service hatch.
The house has three bedrooms, one king with its own on-suite bathroom and two twin bedrooms each with their own bathroom, one with a shower and one with a bath. Each bedroom has a double French door accessing the front patio, which is equipped with luxurious furniture, providing a relaxing place to enjoy the sea views, the peaceful rural scenery, activities on the beach, the clean air, local birds, grey seals who regularily visit Traharta Cove for a spot of fishing.

Although literally right on the water, you can walk down steps from the car park to the rocks, the house enjoys a sheltered position. As it is well insulated and centrally heated via an ecologically friendly air source heat pump, it is warm and cosy and can be enjoyed all seasons of the year. The house is set in a well stocked one and a half acre garden filled with local and semi-tropical plants.

Further Details of Possible Local Activities : Excellent walking is available eg cliff top, rain-forest above Lough Hyne, Iron Age Fort Knock Drum above Castletownsend,etc. There are undisturbed archaeological sites, including ancient copper mines, Stone Tumuli eg Drombeg stone circle. Bicycles can be rented in Skibbereen, the quiet local roads are ideal for cycling. Try the trail above Loch Hyne
Boat trips are available for fishing and whalewatching. Good salmon and trout fishing in season.
A local kayak school, Atlantic Sea Kayaking teaches kayaking at all levels.
There are diving and sailing schools in Baltimore(10 miles). A ferry runs from Baltimore to Clear Island.

Small places can be found for refreshments. eg Unionhall and Glandore are within 30-45 minutes. West the road to Mizen Head takes you through places such as Ballydehob, Schull, Crookhaven and Goleen. This road leads to the site of Marconi`s first radio transmission across the Altantic. North Bantry Bay and Bantry House are only 40 minutes by car and well worth seeing. 10 miles past Bantry is Glengarriff where you can take a ferry to the delightful Garnish Island Gardens. Glengarriff is also the entry point to the beautiful Beara peninsular. Alternatively from Glengariff you can travel due north to Kenmare, the Killarney National Park and the Ring of Kerry. The space
The master bedroom has a king sized bed with ample storage in a wardrobe and 3 chests of drawers. Decorated in cool greys and white, its sure to provide a calming retreat during your visit.

The second room has 2 single beds, wardrobe and drawers. Due to a slanted ceiling (see pictures) there is restricted walking space for taller adults.

A large family bathroom usually over looks a field of cows. We are surrounded by 2 farms so it's quiet but also very private. No one over looks you.

Downstairs consists of a large open plan area including a corner sofa, dining table, modern kitchen with utility. A sliding patio door opens onto a private patio with rattan furniture and a fire pit. Sun sets over the patio so it makes for a great evening setting.

Under the stair is a private play den for the smallies with a walled blackboard and boxes of toys.

Parking is private and secure.

The house is located off a quiet road just 1.5 miles from Skibbereen town. Surrounded by fields, it is quiet and scenic. Bantry is 20 mins drive, Clonakilty 20 mins, Schull 20 mins and Dunmanway 20 mins so this really is a central location of all the exploring you'll want to do.

The house is on the same site as us so there is a shared entrance. However, the garden around you is completely yours to use and enjoy.

Our warm and welcoming cottage, boasts an original inglenook fireplace with solid fuel burning stove and exposed stone. The walls are at least one meter thick and the cottage predates the Irish famine.

The space
This unique cottage is 5 kilometers from the village of Baltimore. There is a music studio on site and the hosts offer a range of creative options, such as recording, songwriting and video. There is no light pollution, so star gazing is fantastic. The property overlooks the Atlantic and area is well know for whale and bird watching.

Other things to note
Spaintowerstudios are on site, and available for hire. Recording at Spaintowerstudios is done with the highest quality microphones. There is no substitute for the Neumann U47 when it comes to Voice. Whether spoken or sung, the U47 is revered world-wide as unsurpassed. To my knowledge there is no other studio in Ireland that currently has a correctly working model. If you want your voice to sound good, come to Spaintowerstudios. Our home is adjacent to The Loft and we park in the same space and enjoy the outdoor spaces in the yard.

If you love the water then bring your kayak, canoe, paddle board and swimsuit as The Loft is just a few minutes drive to Lough Hyne and the sea. Wild swimming enthusiasts will be spoiled for choice with beaches and lake swimming options close by.

The village of Baltimore is an 8-minute drive away. Foodies will be spoiled for choice. Reserve a table in Dede at The Custom House, which has been awarded two Michelin stars or enjoy more casual dining at its sister restaurant, Baba'de which has been awarded a Bib Gourmand. Lots of other dining options are also available at The Algier's Inn, Casey's Hotel, Rolf's Country House, and Jacob's Hotel, which is down by the waterfront.
