Recently refurbished to an extremely high standard, it includes all modern conveniences in a charming country cottage setting. A perfect and peaceful spot to relax, take in the lovely sunset views, hear birdsong and watch cattle, sheep & rabbits in the fields. Hit the road and reach many of Ireland's major destinations in convenient day trips, returning to your home from home at the end of each day.

The space
Bluebell Cottage was refurbished in 2016 to a very high standard whilst maintaining many period features. It was purchased by Mary's Grandfather in 1892, and features on a map dated 1837-1842. It's our favourite place in the world!

Dec 2021 update: now with high-speed internet.

We are Quality Approved by Failte Ireland (Ireland's Tourism Authority), and centrally located in the southern half of Ireland, providing a perfect base for exploring - within an hour you can drive to: Rock of Cashel, Holycross Abbey, Farney Castle, Limerick city, Kilkenny city, Bunratty Castle & Folk Park, Lough Derg, Swiss Cottage, Cahir Castle. For longer trips, Dublin, Cork and Galway cities are all 2hrs, and the Cliffs of Moher are 90mins. See our 'Guidebook' here on Airbnb (link is near the map) for suggestions for places to visit.

It has a cosy but spacious living room, which includes a large traditional stone fireplace, and wood-burning stove - logs will be provided for you. Also includes large 4k Smart TV (inc use of our Netflix, NOW TV & Amazon Prime Video).

The main bedroom, the oldest part of the house, is very romantic with a high vaulted ceiling, an original stone fireplace with woodburning stove, and a King size (USA Queen size) traditional iron-framed bed.

The second double bedroom has a King size (USA Queen size) sleigh bed, and has views over the fields. This room has a luxury en-suite bathroom with rainhead walk-in shower.

There is a charming upstairs loft bedroom with two single beds and Smart TV.

All bedroom doors are lockable.

The main bathroom is also furnished to a high standard including a bathtub which includes a rainhead shower.

There is a country cottage kitchen with all modern conveniences (fridge-freezer, dishwasher, double oven, hob, microwave, kettle, 4-slice toaster and all utensils, pots, crockery, cutlery and glassware) - and plenty of cooking books if you want to experiment.

The cottage is heated throughout by an eco-friendly source, delivering underfloor heating throughout the ground floor and radiators upstairs - it's a lovely even temperature throughout the house, and easy to adjust.

The laundry room has a 10Kg washing machine, and 7Kg dryer - and there's also is a clothesline outside and hanging frames for inside. You have an iron and ironing board for your use.

There's wifi throughout the cottage. There are also many ethernet points connected direct to the router - so you can either use wifi, or plug in laptops (ethernet cables supplied) to get full speed from the router. High-speed internet comes from Starlink broadband with 250Mb/s to the router, giving around 80Mb/s on wifi.

The cottage has good mobile (cellular) phone coverage; we receive 4G signal on the patio - however due to the traditional thick walls in the house, this signal is lessened further into the cottage (the main living areas still get 3G, but bedroom 1 gets the lowest signal strength).

We have plenty of children's toys, books for both adults and kids, board games and maps - plus loads of tourism leaflets/guides.

When you arrive, you'll find we've provisioned the cottage with all bed linen & towels, logs & turf for the stoves, coffee, tea, sugar, fresh milk, butter, marmalade, jam, peanut butter, breakfast cereals and various condiments and all crockery & utensils for cooking; shampoo, conditioner, soaps etc. You can also help yourself to fresh herbs from the herb garden.

We've recently finished the renovation of the cottage, and are slowly developing more and more of the garden. Bluebell Cottage is set in half an acre of grounds, and there are cottage garden style borders immediately around the patio and house, including a Mediterranean herb plot, plus of course the bluebells in May/June. Repeat visitors are enjoying seeing more and more of the garden developing.
