- "Bedrock cottage is a comfortable, well laid out property with outstanding views over the Kenmare River, just a short drive to the picturesque town of Kenmare with its shops, bars and restaurants." - "We enjoyed an idyllic respite at Patrick’s cottage on a hill overlooking the bay. Bedrock Cottage was a perfect spot from which to take day trips to Beara and Kerry Peninsulas, Kenmare, Killarney, and more. The cottage is perched above a valley, where on our first evening we watched a dog herd cattle back to a nearby barn. The view was different every day; the changing colors in the water and various formations of mists between mountains and water invariably spectacular. Bees, birds, and butterflies…lovely flowers and foliage…the setting is truly bucolic. Patrick was very responsive to our questions. This was our first trip to Ireland, and we loved it all—from the music and pints in the pubs to the cow standing atop a boulder on a remote outcropping near Allihies. We hope to return soon!"

- "Location was brilliant and house cosy" - "Very well equipped. So easy to deal with and fantastic location." - "This property location was great. Easy to walk into town and running trails near. Easy to drive the Beara, Ring of Kerry and Dingle peninsulas from this location. The property manager “Heather” was awesome. She went above and beyond to make our stay comfortable and enjoyable. She gave us suggestions on what to visit and see which we did and would not have if it wasn’t for her. The town of Kenmare is definitely a “ Tidy Town”. The only thing that could be better is the shower pressure on the main floor could be stronger. When exiting the property with your car I had my wife check the traffic before I pulled out onto the road. Pedestrians and cars are very hard to see. "

Region: County Kerry is a mystical and unspoilt part of Ireland, with spectacular natural beauty and a fascinating history. Facing the Atlantic Ocean, it features many sandy beaches, rocky inlets and stunning peninsulas.
Town: The village of Kenmore sits at the eastern end of Loch Tay where the River Tay flows out of the loch and dates from the 16th century. Originally built on the north side of the river, the village was moved in mid-sixteenth century to accommodate a castle being built on the north shore. The relocation gave the village its current name reflecting its position on a large headland: Kenmore – ‘large head’ in Gaelic. It is Loch Tay that makes Kenmore such a popular tourist draw today with the many watersports, fishing, hillwalking and cycling activities on and around the loch. Why not visit the Scottish Crannog Centre and discover an ancient way of life in a reconstructed thatched house on stilts? Built on the loch and able to repel danger with the aid of a retractable gangway, these houses provide a fascinating insight into ancient civilisations. The village has shops, a couple of hotels and a restaurant and with the attractive towns of Aberfeldy, Pitlochry and Dunkeld nearby, the tourist is very well provided for. The area is famous for its truly spectacular scenery and whether you are on the water, in the hills or in the shops, Kenmore can provide a stunning backdrop to a very pleasant break.

The cottage dates from the Cromwellian/Early Georgian era, and has been painstakingly restored using traditional methods. The owner's aim when they restored this heritage building was to ensure an authentic feel throughout, in every detail.
In the old part of the structure the walls are not plastered, they are simple bare stone, and have been simply pointed with lime mortar. There is no plasterwork, just lovely stone walls. Also, in keeping with the traditional feel, the house does not have skirting boards or fitted carpets. Instead, painted floors and rush matting have been used throughout.
What you see in these pictures accurately reflects the feel of the cottage. It is quaint, simple and very traditional. If this is the type of holiday cottage you are looking for, and you have a love of history, we feel you will be very pleased with your choice.
Bedroom Configuration:
The cottage has been designed to sleep 4 persons. It has a very large master bedroom (Sleeps 2) plus a small double bedroom (Sleeps 2).
Kitchen/bathroom layout.
The kitchen is a large but very simple farmhouse style. It is made up of free standing pieces of furniture. The style is simple Irish Georgian/Victorian. The chairs and table are an assortment of Victorian balloon backs.
The main bathroom is decorated in a simple cottage style with a good over bath shower. There is a second bathroom with a feature stained glass window and stand alone bath.
If it’s history and eclectic, rustic style you’re looking for, this is the cottage for you and you will be delighted with your choice. This is the sort of cottage that either appeals to you or it doesn't. Those that love it, love it absolutely, but those that don't like this style would be better off opting for something a little more modern.

An Smachtlann (built 1798) is one of the oldest houses in Kenmare and was restored by us in 2013. You'll have sole use of our stone built guest cottage which is cute and cosy and just 1 minute walk from the best restaurants in town.
The space
Our house is a beautiful example of Irish Georgian architecture and has been shortlisted for an award for the renovation we have completed. You will be staying in the stone cottage at the back of the main house where you have your own little galley kitchen, living room and shower room. Upstairs there is a double room and a good size single room .You have your own front door and can come and go as you like. The advantage of our cottage is that it is in the best location in town but you have more space than a bed and breakfast and you can make your own breakfast whenever suits you. The little lane is also very quiet so you don't feel like you are in the middle of town.
Guest access
The main house is occupied by my mother in law. Both houses share the yard outside which is good on sunny days for eating/ drinks outside and is unusual for a house in the centre of town.
Other things to note
The cottage kitchen which has a dishwasher, hob, fridge and oven. You are welcome to cook if you would like but there is limited preparation space. There is a laundrette just 3 minutes walk away.
We have got a new Mobile Hotspot so our internet is vastly improved!!

A world away from the hustle and bustle of modern life, this wonderfully preserved cottage is a rare, lovely relic of old Ireland. Nestling among mature greenery in a peaceful mountain location, it boasts breathtaking mountain and sea views.
The space
