Stoneybrough: A luxury townhouse offering exceptional hospitality for 6/7 guests
House
Kenmare, County Kerry, Ireland

Almost Heaven.
This gracious, award-winning Kenmare townhouse is tucked away in the heart of the village. The secluded location is perfect. Instead of driving into Kenmare for a daily visit, you’re already there. Everything—groceries, pubs, restaurants, entertainment, shops, churches—are close at hand.
No searching around town for a parking spot.
You walk everywhere.
You don’t feel like a visitor.
You’ll live like locals.
Nestled in a copse of eleven white birch trees, Stoneybrough contains 1540 square feet of living area, complete with a full length deck overlooking the River Finnehy, and a fine garden between. You’ll discover an ancient, beautifully designed drystone bridge, known as the Cromwell Bridge, in full view of this highly acclaimed property. A carefully tended Druid stone circle, predating Stonehenge by 2000 years, is around the corner and up toward the end of Market Street, a pleasant ten minute walk rewarded with quiet moments contemplating the ancient stonework and the hardy folk who built it.
Stoneybrough boasts solid Burmese teak woodwork, wall to wall hotel grade wool carpeting throughout, beveled glass French doors and other design and decorating touches you'll find nowhere else.
Guests enjoy blazing fast Starlink WiFi (Download 154; Upload 57 Mbps) along with Sky TV in the lounge, dining room, and the master suite as well. A Bluetooth-enabled stereo radio/CD player with a variety of mostly Irish music—to put you in the mood— is on the bar next to the kitchen. Play your own favorite playlists, but we challenge you to put on “Galway Girl” by The Kilkenny Boys and not sing along!
Stoneybrough is now fitted with a Gen2 Alexa device for information and entertainment.
Two sculptured marble fireplaces provide warmth and comfort, one with a classic Liscannor stone hearth. You'll enjoy pressured showers and powerful built-in hair dryers. A state of the art Apple iMAC computer, free WiFi, a fully equipped kitchen and private off street parking round out the amenities. For a second car, a free public car park is found just across the footbridge.
Looking forward to a night on the town? With sufficient notice, we can arrange for a responsible baby sitter for you.
Stoneybrough furnishes locally made, all natural non-allergenic guest soaps and luxurious robes for all our guests. The cook will find everything needed, right down to alderwood planks for those freshly caught salmon filets on the grill and a DeLonghi cappuccino/espresso machine for your pleasant, tranquil mornings on the deck.
Stoneybrough is not an investment property rented and operated by an impersonal management company. Rather, it’s our second home, managed by us with the help of Joanne, our amazing housekeeper. We believe Stoneybrough strikes the perfect balance between upscale luxury and personalized, carefree service that promotes enjoyment, relaxation and genuine satisfaction, knowing you’ve made the right choice.
Befitting the honor of achieving VRBO/Homeaway’s coveted “Premier Partner” level, we proudly feature premium Boll and Branch linens on every bed, and luxurious Merino lambswool-filled pillows in the Master Suite. At Stoneybrough, you’ll find American comforts you’d expect, but with an Irish accent.
Along with carefully chosen period art and antiques, you'll notice a decorative battle sword mounted on a wall opposite the kitchen, and a genuine Irish drum called a boudran'. These symbolize the great paradox of Irish civilization: their fierce, warlike history melded with their fun-loving, lively and charming musical traditions.
A two-minute stroll takes you to the heart of downtown, with the finest restaurants, pubs, two five star hotels, live music, and busy shops and galleries for which Kenmare is justly famous. The five-star Park and Sheen Falls hotels provide fine cuisine as well, along with luxurious spa experiences judged by Fodor's as the best in Europe.
Kenmare Golf Club, with beautiful views of Kenmare Bay, is only a short walk away. The Ring of Kerry course overlooking Kenmare Bay and the majestic mountains beyond is only a ten-minute drive.
You'll also find Kenmare centrally located for many of the finest golfing experiences in Ireland: the Ballybunion, Waterville, Beaufort, Dooks, Glengariff, Old Head, Tralee and Killarney courses are all within reasonable driving distances.
Kenmare rests astride The Wild Atlantic Way, at the foot of the Ring of Kerry, the most popular travel destination in Ireland. There you'll find breathtaking scenery, stone age ring forts, many unforgettable stops and the striking 6th century monastic site on the island of Skellig Michael, (a UNESCO World Heritage Site). The island hosted the final scenes in Star Wars VII, when Rae delivers the lost light saber to a brooding Luke Skywalker, and now, a more extensive exposure to the island in Star Wars VIII. A stunning place just an hour away from Stoneybrough. You can even visit a long string of pre-historic fossilized tetrapod tracks on nearby Valencia Island.
A full day exploring the Ring, another on the wild and less-traveled Beara Peninsula, and still another spent on the equally spectacular Dingle Peninsula (Ryan's Daughter and Far And Away were filmed there) will leave you with the most indelible experiences and memories imaginable.
By special arrangement, a private tour guide can customize the perfect day trips to meet your requirements, and our housekeeper, Joanne, is on call to provide flawless concierge-level service throughout your stay.
Returning home, you might whip up a gourmet dinner served on Ralph Lauren Wedgwood china, with the freshest locally sourced ingredients from Roger O'Sullivan's butcher shop and the delightful small grocery just across the cobbled street from Stoneybrough. Feast on local grass fed beef, or fresh Kerry lamb, seasoned and garnished with rosemary picked from your own garden. Or indulge yourself with savory alderwood-grilled Atlantic salmon caught just offshore, with fresh dill from the deck planter.
Or not! Take in an evening of fine dining, fun, music and entertainment at any of the amazing pubs and gourmet restaurants just a five minute walk away. There you’ll enjoy the freshest salmon, shrimp, whitefish, cod, and bay mussels, a local delicacy, in every bowl of steamy, creamy Kenmare seafood chowder. And try the grass-fed beef, venison, Kerry lamb, and the traditional colcannon potato dish with a bit of rich Kerry Gold butter. Delicious!
Then, after an evening of fine food, drink and entertainment, stroll home under the stars, and fall asleep to the enchanting music of the River Finnehy.

We had fires in the evening and enjoyed every room. The walk to the water is a good hike but nice to be able to enjoy the property. Sandy also said we could drive down if we wanted to take a picnic. Thanks for sharing the beautiful historic home with us!" - "My family of 14 gathered in Kenmare at this beautiful estate to share time where their dad was raised. The Dunkerron property was magnificent and we enjoyed walks, fireside gatherings, and exploring the beauty of Kerry together! Sandy, the property manager, was so helpful and informative. We can’t wait to return!"

- "Our family had an excellent stay at the townhouse, which is managed by a local restaurant and hotel. The townhouse is on a side road so it's a little quieter, but it's a very easy walk to all the main streets in Kenmare. We had a great time exploring all the restaurants and shops. Off street parking is a huge bonus too. The kitchen is a little sparsely equipped, but we had enough to get by. Overall we thoroughly enjoyed our visit!" - "Very accommodating. Shelburne Lodge, Georgian House, Garden, Parking, 5 min Walk from Kenmare Town
House
Kenmare, KY, Ireland

Shelburne Lodge, Kenmare, County Kerry.

A private hire Georgian county house located just 5 minutes’ walk from Kenmare town center.

A rural vibe, yet in the heart of everything, elegantly appointed and wildly romantic.

Immediately upon arrival you will experience peace, quietness and serenity at this Georgian gem, on the edge of Kenmare town, yet in an oasis of greenery, ancient trees and eye pleasing flowers.

Shelburne Lodge awaits your stay.

It was built to entertain and it has been a home to families, friendship, love and laugher for over 250+ years. Sitting on ~3 acres of lush grounds and calming trees, this manor house is ~2.5 hours’ drive from Shannon airport or 75 minutes from Cork airport. This is the oldest house in Kenmare, filled with old world charm and antiques. Just minutes on foot to shops, bars and restaurants, a short stroll to the sea and nature walks.

Shelburne Lodge (c. 1769) was built by and was the original home of the 2nd Earl of Shelburne, Dublin born Sir William Petty (FitzMaurice added later) (1737-1805). Around 1760, he inherited vast areas of land in the Kenmare area through his grandmother (Anne (Petty) FitzMaurice), a daughter of Sir William Petty. Later he commissioned the building of the town of Kenmare in 1775. He had a great love of the area and lived in this home as a young man. His city home was at St. Stephen's Green, Dublin. Around 1776 he entered politics and became a member of the Parliament of Ireland, opposite Trinity College, Dublin. He had a successful political career, becoming Prime Minister of Great Britain on July 4th, 1782 until March 26th, 1783. The Treaty of Paris (1783) which brought the conflict between Britain and the United States to an end was signed with US leaders - John Adams, Benjamin Franklin and John Jay among others. Lord Shelburne was popular with the US leaders and following the signing of the Treaty of Paris, a town was named after him, Lansdowne, Pennsylvania. Other areas in the US were also named Shelburne to honor his memory.

Shelburne Lodge is a charming (in town) Georgian country house. Close to fine dining establishments, five star hotels and many outdoor activities. Just 30 minutes by car to Killarney, Muckross House and Ross Castle. On the Ring of Kerry and Ring of Beara routes, Kerry Way hiking, biking, fishing and much, much more. Guest Reviews:

- "The Shelburne Lodge is a quintessential Irish vacation home which was perfect for our large family holiday exploring the charms of County Cork and County Kerry. It is strategicly located near the Ring of Kerry. Because it is within walking distance of Kenmare, we were able to easily enjoy the many charming pubs, restaurants and local shops that are found in town. It is also conveniently located within minutes of three modern and well stocked grocery stores. The home dates from the 1700s with beautiful architecture and Irish details including a typical English influenced front door and entrance. The 10 unique bedrooms offered everyone what they wanted, each including an ensuite bathroom. There is an efficient, fully stocked, commercial kitchen where we were easily able to prepare many meals for our large group. One stand out, the house is carefully curated and fully stocked for a vacation that feels like home. This even includes having umbrellas by the front door for our use, since it is Ireland. The grounds and gardens are lush and draw you outside to explore the beautiful Irish country side.Victoria was very helpful and accommodating to our group and quick to respond to any questions we had.We thoroughly enjoyed a truly unique and memorable experience at the Shelburne Lodge."

This is a GENERAL OVERVIEW OF THE AREA piece I have written for Kenmare Chamber/Tourism

Kenmare Bay/Inbhear Scéine (Ir.) is a 50mile long, narrow sea inlet sheltered between Iveragh peninsula with Ireland’s highest mountain range and the wild, bare uplands of Beara to the south. The bay is very accessible along its length with many harbours, inlets and creeks. It is 18km at its mouth, narrowing gradually as it bisects and separates scenic mature woodlands. There are a number of islands on the bay the most extensive being Dinish and Dunkerron islands close to Kenmare town.
Kenmare is now home to the largest raptor in Europe, the white-tailed sea eagle which has nesting sites on the bay. The bay also has a large colony of seals. It is a popular destination for sea angling, sea cruises and sail training and sea sports. The bay is significant for its micro-climate, which encourages an ecological biodiversity of lush vegetation and natural habitats. The area is outstanding for the richness of historical and archaeological which remain intact. Several hundred archaeological sites lie close to the shoreline and stone circles, standing stones and other monuments abound. In the old mythological tales written in the 12th century by Irish monks, Kenmare Bay is cited as the supposed landing of the last invasion of Ireland by Milesians and the Irish name for the bay, Inbhear Scéine, is linked to these tales.
Kenmare’s most iconic symbol is its double-arched Art Deco bridge, which spans Kenmare Bay at its narrowest point. The bridge is a focal point for the spectacular sunsets, which light up the western skies and the waters of the bay.
At the innermost corner of the bay is Kenmare, a pretty, heritage town with the intimacy and feel of a village. It offers seafood and fine dining, traditional music and quality accommodation all in a surprisingly compact triangle of historic buildings. Within a day’s drive of the town, the furthest reaches of both peninsulas can be accessed, making Kenmare town an ideal and popular all season destination.
