- "Beautiful hotel in walking distance to much of Kinsale. We booked a Superior room which was a standard USA style room. It overlooked the garden. Bathroom on the small side. Many steps to different levels but has an elevator. The staff were superior and the restaurant and bar very nice. Walked to Charles Fort (30 minutes) and historical buildings in town. The streets to the fort have a bit of an incline. Had dinner at Man Friday which is more upscale than your pub. Had a drink at Bulman near the fort. A great staff and atmosphere. "

Kinsale is on the famous Wild Atlantic Way and many of the beautiful locations and pretty towns along the County Cork coastline are nearby. Cork city and airport are less than half an hour away.

- "The property was extremely clean and very well furnished and beautifully kept.The kitchen was very well equipped to cater for a large group with plenty of plates, cutlery various glasses and loads of cooking utensils. The location was perfect as you couldn’t get any more central. 5 min walk if that to shops, pubs, restaurants and the bustling Kinsale. Loads of places to walk the dog too, as long as you don’t mind going up and down a few hills. The beaches nearby of Garylucas and Garrets-town were well loved by all especially the dog who was done in by the end. Cork centre is only 30 min drive away and the beautiful beaches of Rosscarbery only 45 mins away. There were loads of well priced pubs restaurants to eat and were all very accommodating. Man Friday and hamleys were our favourites. The only odd thing was the outside seating area being off the top bedroom but it was lovely and caught the sun in the evening and not an issue for us at all."

The house (Neves) is on a hill over looking the Harbour and is very private. It is a beautiful 15 minute walk along the Scilly walk right into the heart of historic Kinsale.

Kinsale is famous for its harbour and mild climate. The harbour is ideal for yachting, sea angling, kayaking and dolphin and whale watching trips. There is an amazing golf course nearby at the Old Head.

Kinsale today is a busy town with both locals and tourists. There are many shops along the quaint narrow streets with unique gifts, crafts, paintings, art galleries , book shops and many lovely cafes perfect for your morning coffee and cake. Our favorite lunch spot is The Lemon Leaf Cafe.

Kinsale is the gourment capital of Ireland. Our favorite restaurants are the Bullman, Man Friday, Fishy Fishy, and many others. We also love the Pink Elephant which is a beautiful 30 minute drive along the coast. It is our favorite for Sunday lunch.

We love to drive along the coast to the Old Head and beautiful quaint towns of Clonakility, Skibbereen and Bantry. Day trips around the Ring of Kerry and the Lakes of Killarney are a must.

Kinsale hosts an annual jazz festival, which takes place during the last weekend of October. Pubs and hotels in the town host concerts by jazz and blues groups throughout the weekend, including on the last Monday of October (which is a bank holiday in Ireland).[34][35]

The monumental steel, originally unpainted, sculpture The Great Wall of Kinsale, by Eilis O'Connell and installed in 1988 to celebrate Kinsale's achievements in the Tidy Towns competition, stands by Pier Road and Town Park.[36]

Bastion, a restaurant on Market/Main streets, received a Michelin Star in 2020.[4] Chef Keith Floyd was previously a resident of Kinsale.[37]

Kinsale is a holiday destination for both Irish and overseas tourists.[2] Leisure activities include yachting, sea angling, and golf. The town also has several art galleries, and there is a large yachting marina close to the town centre.

Landmark taverns and the Dutch style courthouse, where the inquest into the sinking of the Luistania in 1915 was held as well as medieval Desmond Castle still survive as do most of the other character houses in and around the narrow maze of streets that thankfully have not been demolished in the name of progress or greed....
Kinsale thrives on its waterfront location, the galleons which once sailed right up town have been replaced with leisure craft for both sailing and fishing. The Kinsale regatta is one of the longest running in Ireland and as popular as ever. Thirty years ago, Kinsale pioneered the Slow Food Movement with local artisan food producers getting together with chefs to produce the most wonderful food. In fact there seems to be more bars, restaurants and cafes per square mile here than in Dublin and as I say its busy, busy, busy. But the people are warm and friendly and for the most characters like Martin Shanahan who’s mad about fish and is leading a nationwide campaign to get us all back cooking and eating it. You will spoiled for choice restaurant wise and there is certainly somewhere to suit all tastes and pockets. A great weekend destination or starting point on a scenic road trip around West Cork....

1 First up Dermot Ryan’s walking tour of Kinsale is a must, tailor made, instantly, to suit the interests and nationalities of the various individuals who show up on the day. Warm, witty and informative, it’s the best €5 you will spend in Kinsale, tour departs daily at 10.30 from the Tourist Office on the quay and takes about an hour.

2 In these days of online everything is there anything better when on holidays than browsing a real bookshop rather than a virtual one and having a book talk to you or fall into your hands as well as a chat with the owner of the Kinsale Book Shop who’ll advise you on the latest arrivals re Irish interest or just a downright, good old-fashioned read, as well as the state of the industry!

3 Followed by coffee and the best lemon meringue pie in Ireland at the Lemon Leaf or a real hot chocolate in Jo’s. I must say I like this kind of niche marketing, it certainly adds to the relaxation element of a pleasant saturday morning shop when my stomach nods in agreement without even having to bother my mind.

4 The Boathouse Gallery with an electic selection of sea inspired images, I particularly liked but couldn’t afford, as usual, the Dee Pieters landscapes of West Cork with their mirror like water elements and bottomless lakes. With a warm Cork welcome from the owner, who knows well you are only browsing and unlikely to buy, well not this time perhaps, but maybe next time?

5 And then there are the stalwarts like Jim Edwards, the Blue Haven and the Spaniard out the road, that have been there forever. There’s a great line up of music most nights throughout the summer, good food and perfect pints all day and plenty of atmosphere all with walking distance of each other.

6 And no shortage of restaurants obviously in the Gourmet Capital of Ireland, cheap and cheerful Crackpots and Brunos to more expensive Finns Table and Fishy Fishy with the Black Pig doing tapas but my absolute favourite is up next?

7 Bulman Pub, Summercove, never was a place more aptly named, location? tick! sunset, if you are lucky? tick! atmosphere? most definitely! great pints, cold beer or glass of wine? for sure! And the best oysters, lobster and seafood you will eat anywhere in Ireland.

8 Charles Fort, after the defeat of the Irish in 1601 the English built this French style star shaped fort at the mouth of the harbour and installed a garrison of over 1000 troops which remained in Kinsale for over 400 years until we got our independence in1922. You can visit by car or on foot, a nice walk out via Scilly, take a Harbour Cruise or Hire a Boat during the summer.

9 Old Head, Kinsale, known as the 'Edge of the World’ at the time, it still looks like that, a rugged peninsula, jutting out 3 miles out into the Atlantic with its famous lighthouse and Celtic marriage stone. It now belongs to private consortium who have developed a world class links and exclusive golf club which is on every golfers bucket list of courses to play before they die

Getting to Kinsale is easy- 10 minutes and even closer is Ballinspittle just 5 minutes away. It has a gas station and 2 small grocery stores. Beaches are very nearby to and Old Head. It's a terrific location and rental. Also, Ryan O'Leary the manager is very good and very responsive. He would always get back to my questions promptly. We had a great family vacation and this home was perfect."

This restored and modernized cobb farmhouse maintains the character and feel of the original 1700s homestead. Kinsale is a gourmet town with a yacht filled harbor along with golf and equestrian center.

Kinsale itself is a lovely town with great pubs, restaurants (Bulmans and Man Friday were great), cafes and places to look around. It is a great base to drive further south west to Mizen Head, Skibbereen (sobering famine history) and Clonakilty (black pudding and Michael Collins house!). The only disadvantage (not the owners fault!) is that you do need a car to get into Kinsale so one night we left if in town, had a few drinks and walked (25 mins) to go to pick it up! Great holiday. Our 2 Bedroom, 1st floor apartment accessed by a set of steps gives you great views of the surrounding countryside with both valley and sea views. You have a choice of 2 local beaches only a 3 minute drive. The Dock beach has sand with a medium size beach where you can relax, the second Sandycove has a mix of stones and sand with access by a slipway. Experienced sea swimmers swim around Sandycove Island daily.
We have a large garden with swings, slides & a trampoline that can be used but you have to supervise children when they use these please.
There is private parking and patio space you can enjoy.

There is also horse riding and hiking with breath taking scenery. This is a first floor apartment with two spacious bedrooms to sleep up to four people. The ground floor of the building is home to Food U Deli which is the ideal option for your holiday breakfasts. The kitchen is well equipped with oven and hob, microwave, kettle, toaster, dishwasher, fridge with ice box and washing machine (please note there is no dryer). There is a round table with four chairs perfect for sitting at while having your morning coffee and reading the day's news.

The space
Lovely, newly refurbished private guest apartment with it's own entrance. The apartment is a part of the lower level of my home but sectioned off therefore no shared indoor spaces for guests. The area is cosy and bright,( if you don't like colourful decor, its not the space for you),and my house is set in a quiet area near town (5 to 10 minute walk), with established gardens for a relaxing stay.
Kitchenette only with toaster, coffee maker, kettle and mini fridge.
Note, there is no cooker or oven/stove.
Laundry machines in town, I cannot do guest Laundry.
Please note that we are on a hill, not difficult for most people of average fitness, but if you are someone who drives everywhere, you can drive down town in a minute.
Compass Hill is an area of lovely green spaces, but also close to town. It is considered to be one of the best address areas in the town precinct. I have accurately pinned the address on the map, so please note before booking.
Hosts get very frustrated when we are given less than five stars ⭐ for location when it is the guests responsibility to see it suits them before booking.
Please note, if travelling from overseas, as we are a home setting, we have limited space for luggage. Ideally it would suit those without large heavy suitcases. Sorry, I cannot accommodate every type of traveller, and their needs, in a budget setting. Please have realistic expectations if you are used to hotels. I am a home based host not a listed business.
You will need to have a phone with roaming enabled if you have trouble finding us.

It is recommended that you have your own transport if travelling with luggage, as it is 10 to 15 minutes walk uphill from the bus stop. I can provide you with local taxi numbers if you are travelling by bus to Kinsale.
We are set in a lovely garden, so if the sight of a bug triggers you, maybe a hotel is more your thing,(Yes, someone complained of a bug and that there were plants).
Yes, I have a friendly cockapoo dog, Curly, so if you are frightened by a lovable mutt, again, not suitable for you.
Also, my taste is a bit bohemian, so if colourful surroundings are not your thing, a hotel might be a better fit.(Same person complained of too much colour, I kid you not!).
Otherwise, we welcome anyone who is easy going, happy and not incredibly fussy.

We are located on the higher side of town, so if mobility is an issue or walking is not your thing, maybe check hotels in town for availability.
WiFi occasionally runs slower in Kinsale, it may not be as fast as you are used to, so I cannot guarantee 24/7 fast speeds, if needed for those working on holiday.
The garden setting is lovely, but if you are triggered by an insect, definitely not for you.(Yes, one guest in nine years,complained!).
Also, if you are afraid of a friendly cockapoo dog, maybe also not for you. ( I wish I was joking, but yet again, someone didn't
read the listing!).
As this is a home setting, we are limited by space, so it is recommended that your luggage is on the light side.
Sorry if you are travelling from afar, most of my guests find putting the items in an overnight style bag works if renting a car. I am not a commercial business, so cannot possibly accommodate everyone's needs in a budget accommodation setting.

This is a unique, cosy, self contained, elevated POD set in a private garden, close to the water, overlooking Kinsale Harbour and town, in the jewel of Kinsale - Summercove.
You can relax while watching the boats go by, take long coastal walks, go for a swim in the ocean, dine in the local award winning pub/restaurant (The Bulman), explore the 16th century fort (Charles Fort), take a stroll into town or an electric bike & head out exploring.

The space
The property has a large bedroom, bathroom and kitchenette with kettle, toaster and microwave.
We supply a welcome pack of tea, coffee, milk, water, sugar, cereal, fresh bread, butter and preserves. If you like an alcoholic drink we run an "honour bar" with beers & wine which you can pay for on site or via Airbnb on departure.

The POD is A1+ rated, so super cosy, with the added advantage of a constant supply of fresh sea air via the POD ventilation system and all the energy used by the POD is supplied by Electric Ireland 100% Green electric plan.

We don't compromise on your comfort so during your stay you'll be sleeping on the, Irish Made, amazing EMMA-MATTRESS which we think you'll find sooooo comfortable, as do our past guests in their reviews.
All our soft furnishing are also Irish Made and sourced locally from Granny's Bottom Drawer, a unique shop in the heart of Kinsale and definitely worth a visit during your stay.

You enter the property via the garden entrance at the side of the main house and walk up the outside stairs to access the POD.

Parking is off site and communal.

If you're in Kinsale for a night or more, it's the place to base yourself.

Electric bikes are on an external rental, and can be in place at the POD for your arrival once ordered in advance via Wild Atlantic Sports. Electric bikes are a wonderful way to go exploring this fabulous area of Ireland.
