- "2 families stayed whilst visiting Alton Towers. We couldn’t have stayed any closer, The Old Barn literally on the doorstep. The property have a very homely feel which made relaxing easy. We love our little cottage and love sharing it with others. Built in 1780 and originally a farm workers cottage it is full of charm and character. We are situated a 4 min drive from Alton Towers (roads unsuitable to walk) and very close to The Peak District making this an ideal base for visitors, walkers, climbers and bikers. We are semi rural so please bring any supplies with you. We have lots of seating areas inside and out so please just make yourselves at home and enjoy.

Guests will have full use of the cottage and gardens except for our private bedroom. Lots of seating areas to enjoy inside and out. Watch the sunset from Grandma's Parlour or chill out and watch the birds from our garden room. Enjoy our undercover seating area which sits alongside our firepit. Just bring your own refreshments.
We have a lovely little cottage kitchen with breakfast bar which will be well stocked for either a help yourself breakfast or a locally sourced cooked breakfast (weekends only). Lots of space for the kids to run around. Rope swings, trees to climb, hammocks. We have hidden boots around the garden (see how many you can find) If you have little ones we have a couple of den making kits - please ask. Egg collecting can be arranged, just ask before arrival. We do have a honesty shack selling fresh eggs at £1.50 per half dozen (depending on the ladies laying) please bring your own box or basket if possible.
Although we are close to Alton Towers the roads are unsuitable to walk so transport is a must...You are most welcome to use our kitchen to cook if you don't want to eat out (just ask prior to arrival ) and weather depending we do have a nice communal campfire area , just bring your own sticks, logs and any food you want to cook. We can provide campfire wood for a £10 donation to our chosen charity (pay when you get here) but this is unsuitable to cook on.

We do have 2 well behaved cockerals but they are situated away from the cottage. We also have a beautiful rescue staffy called Callum who is just adorable and often described as a therapy dog as he is so gentle and caring. Our campfire area is communal so whoever is about is welcome to use it. We do have a bbq you can use , just bring your own coals etc with you. Please note that we do have 2 ponds so please supervise your children. Although we are a 4 minute drive from Alton Towers the roads are unsuitable to walk so transport is a must....Please note that there are no Ubers or takeaways here so please bring any supplies with you. Late arrival is absolutely fine during Scarefest, just keep us posted on your eta. We can comfortably accommodate 4 but do have a pull out camp bed for a 5th person if required. The space
Hidden Cottage is quiet and secluded. There are 8 steps down to the cottage.
One step down to the kitchen that is well equipped. I provide cleaning equipment and tea towels etc . Also I leave tea bags , coffee, sugar. salt and pepper in the cupboard. There is plenty of crockery and knifes and forks so you do not have to wash everyday but can easily fill the dishwasher up.
There is a step up to the spacious bedroom with a King size bed and a step up to the bathroom which has a large shower.

Guest access
You have access to your own private courtyard through the French doors.
When the weather is warmer there will be a table and chairs for you to sit out on. Seat cushions are in the table under the lid . Please help yourself to the herbs in the pots , rosemary and chives. Look out for our resident Hedgehog at dusk!

Other things to note
Car parking is on the Royal Oak ( the pub is closed) car park and is free. I provide a pass for you to put on the dashboard

The WiFi is placed on the console in the living room. The house book has the codes for you to connect.

Ruby Cottage is a cosy, comfortable cottage located in a quiet but central spot in the historic village of Longnor in the Peak District National Park. The cottage has been carefully renovated to retain much of its original character with exposed stonework, stripped pine doors and a wood burning stove.

Bookings are welcome for a minimum of 3 nights, occasionally 2.

The space
Ruby Cottage has one bedroom with a double bed and sleeps two people. A cot and high chair are available on request. There is full central heating and radiators in each room, plus a basket of sticks and logs for your arrival. Towels (bathroom and kitchen), bedding and background heating are all included.

The property is not suitable for wheelchair users or people with very limited mobility as there are steps to access the property and steps to the upstairs.

Other things to note
The cosy lounge has a wood burning stove, leather sofa and chair and a flat screen TV with DVD player, and a selection of DVDs. WiFi reception and speed are very good. Games, books, walking guides and maps are provided, as is wood for the fire (small extra charge). The room has a dining table and four chairs.

The kitchen is fully equipped with electric cooker and hob, microwave, dishwasher, washer/dryer, fridge with ice box. Tea, coffee & sugar, tea towels and tablets for the dishwasher and washer/dryer are provided.

The airy bedroom has a brass double bed with king size duvet and two bedside tables with lamps. The wardrobe has plenty of coat hangers, three drawers and spare blankets.

The ultra modern bathroom has a walk in shower, under floor heating and heated towel rail. WC, wash basin & shaver point.

The cottage has full central heating.
