- "Nice location and hangout areas for travellers" - "Loved the location of this hostel, right in the downtown area, many shops and food places are a 2 minute walk away. There is no A/C at this place but they do provide fans, it wasn't too hot when we went so it was okay for us. The room (Family private) was of decent size, the bathroom was also a good size. In terms of cleanliness, it was pretty clean overall, we did find some hair behind the bathroom door. They also do not have fridges in these private rooms but they do have a shared kitchen in the basement of the main building, because we stayed 4 nights we brought our own mini fridge which came in handy for our morning coffees and leftovers. Another downside is that they have no elevators so if you have a lot of stuff there will be a lot of walking up and down stairs, our room was located on the third floor of a connecting building so we had to walk through the main building, up 3 flights of stairs, through a connecting passage to the second building and to our room, because we brought a fridge it was a little tiresome the first day. The staff was really nice, would definitely come back to this hostel if I visit Quebec City. Overall great place!"

Staff treat the place like home, and the rules, explicit in French and English, permit clear boundaries and good behavior. Also, the cafe on the main floor has excellent coffees and some food items, the sunny area for eating is warm and cosy with a Southeastern exposure and great light. The only disappointment was that I hoped to practice piano during my sojourn for the eclipse--and the upright looked like it was well cared for, but a note on the instrument and instructions from staff was that it was not permissible. That was the sole time I wished I had packed my guitar, but my sack was already 20 kg and I hiked all around the area finding the perfect spot to watch the heavenly planetary bodies do their dance. Thanks for having us--if you don't know what an auberge de Jeunesse is, and how it is different from a hotel......then maybe this kind of communitarian spot is not for you....but for the rest of us who travel lightly......c'est parfait!"
