- "It was a treat to spend two weeks at this gem in downtown New Iberia. The host's attention to detail is everywhere, from the eclectic decor and eye-popping wallpaper, brand new appliances, and well-stocked kitchen. Usually I end up having to buy some practical item a rental is missing but this one had an abundance of pots, pans, dishcloths, towels, plastic food storage containers, and even Ziploc bags. The beds were comfortable and every bedroom had closet hangers and a luggage rack available. Morning light in the sunroom was another favorite feature. You do hear the trains on the track behind the house but honestly there is nowhere in downtown New Iberia that doesn't get railroad noise. We adjusted and soon barely noticed it at all. Our communication with Douglas was always wonderful. He responded quickly to questions and made sure our every need was met. This was truly one of my best vacation rental experiences, and I can't wait to stay here again."

The Bayou Teche boardwalk and waterfront park are both public areas that guests are allowed to access. Guests are prohibited from entry into the 1st floor garage and roof top. - "Everything you need down to make up wipes. Just a lovely stay. Quiet. Local businesses in walking distance. Couldn’t have asked for a better weekend!" - "This was one of the most unique properties we've stayed in. The view from both decks was wonderful. What a magical place. Even with my husband's bad knee, he said the spiral staircase challenge was worth it. When we win the lottery, we would like this architect to build our dream home. Attention to details - including basket nook in bathroom was top notch. Stay here. You will be glad you did."

- "As a VRBO host myself, I can say this place is one of the nicest I have encountered. It looks freshly remodeled. It’s clean and decorated thoughtfully. 2 rooms, 2 televisions. Climate control and fans. The grounds are gorgeous! It’s on the waterfront. Country getaway close enough to the city for restaurants and galleries and shopping. I loved it. Anyone that decided to stay here would. I had a lovely chat with the host prior to checking out this morning and he was down to earth and told me a bit about the history of the structures we were staying in, which made me appreciate our stay even more. Highly recommended!"

Imagine staying in a 180 year old mansion on the graceful Bayou Teche. As you turn in the driveway, shrouded by ancient live oaks, you will catch your first glimpse of the Albania Mansion. She boasts eleven thousand square feet of Louisiana history within her beautiful, restored walls. Over three thousand square feet of balconies on three different floors are perfect for relaxation, bird watching, and star gazing. The mansion is decorated using period pieces but also with attention to comfort and all the necessary modern amenities. This is perfect for family getaways, girls trips, special events, and retreats. Have a cup of coffee, or a glass of wine on a balcony as you watch the egrets fly lazily down the bayou. Conveniently located in the heart of Acadiana, this area is perfect for exploring the Cajun Coast and immersing yourself in the warmth of Cajun culture. Located along the Old Spanish Trail, Albania Mansion is a short drive from tourist attractions such as Avery Island, Jefferson Island, the Atchafalaya Swamp and Lafayette. Enjoy kayak bayou tours, antiquing, and even ghost tours in nearby Franklin. Try your luck at the Cypress Bayou Casino, take an airboat tour, or visit the many plantations located within driving distance. Or choose to do absolutely nothing at all. Sit and contemplate history, experience nature, or walk beneath the cathedral of oaks. While there is much you can see and do in the area, this house is the main attraction so you may find yourself inclined to rest awhile and take it all in. We can provide all manner of cooking experiences from gumbo and jambalaya lessons to Cajun crawfish boils and fish fries. This will be an experience like no other. Come stay with us and experience something special and unique!

It boasts wood floors and 10.5 foot ceilings. The house is surrounded by an acre of quiet, secluded gardens. Witness the sugar mill and fields of cane, while you enjoy a great book or whip up a gourmet meal in the original kitchen.
The Story...
"When Peter Patout needs a break from the bustle of his home in New Orleans’ French Quarter, he returns to his Patoutville roots. There, nestled among fields of cane that have fueled the family’s sugar business for nearly two centuries, sits a house built in 1925 by Patout’s grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Ory Patout.
According to Patout, a realtor who specializes in historic properties as well as Louisiana art and architecture, the home’s Mediterranean revival design is a rarity in Bayou Teche country. Along with its red cement tile roof and stucco exterior, the structure incorporates Colonial revival and arts and crafts elements with a screened-in porch and Doric columns.
Patout has pursued a careful restoration, stripping away layers of linoleum to reveal heart pine flooring, rewiring the nearly century-old light fixtures and installing a shower to complement the 1920s bathtub.
The screened-in porch, once used for sleeping, has become one of Patout’s favorite spots. There he might start his day sipping café au lait from a Blue Willow transfer print cup.
“The porch I did on the last leg, but I should have done that first,” says Patout. “It’s such a lovely place to relax.”
The home’s three generations of decorative arts include items such as Mrs. Ory Patout’s settee, still upholstered in its original fabric, and an heirloom “Remember the Maine” shadowbox that Patout recalls enjoying as a child. Patout continues to incorporate pieces from his own collection of Louisiana antiques as well.
The house is located next to Enterprise Farms, which Patout’s ancestors established in 1832. The farm now houses the family-owned corporation M.A. Patout and Son, which according to Patout is the oldest sugar producing mill on the North American continent still owned and operated by the same family.
“You can see the sugar mill from the front porch, bellowing steam,” says Patout. “It operates 24 hours a day, an energetic entity that’s part of my visual.”
The ancestral thread extends to Patout’s garden, lush with his grandmother’s roses and heirloom plants transferred from his mother’s home in Jeanerette. As with the rest of the property, the garden brings in hints of Patout’s contemporary existence, like the night blooming jasmine he transplanted from New Orleans. At night, the fragrance from the jasmine permeates the air. "It's beyond wonderful."
