Best of Both Worlds!
Our 2 bedroom guest house, with a rural, idyllic, secluded feel, is only a lovely stroll of less than 3/4 of a mile to the heart of downtown Nevada City. Not just a 'vacation rental'. It is a meticulously maintained 1,100 sf home -- Totally separate, private, sophisticated, quiet, one-of-a-kind, architecturally designed, light filled retreat down a long and private driveway.

Honeycomb Ranch is a non-smoking property located in a 'neighborhood' of 4 ranchettes, each 5 acres apart. It is the perfect retreat/get-away for a couple or a couple of friends or a small family.

The large master bedroom is located at the end of the hall and has a new pillowtop kingsize mattress and a sliding glass door opening onto the deck with meadow and forest views. The second bedroom is smaller but has a very comfortable new pillow-top queen size bed, nightstands and a dresser. There is an additional closet in the entry way if hanging space is needed. (See 'Property Details' for additional information.) The furniture in the living room is extremely comfortable, the kitchen is fully equipped and the views from every window are exquisite.

Added bonuses include wheelchair accessibility, unlimited satellite channels on TV, an electric car hook up,

If you are parents or grandparents with family living here you want to visit, it is the perfect spot. If you live in San Francisco and want to make a quick getaway out of the fog, it is just a 2 1/2 hour drive. Reno is only an hour and 15 minutes away and Sacramento is just an hour. Easy drives to come to a 'world away'! Anytime is the right time to make your reservations. Nevada County boasts a gorgeous, eastern style Fall with brilliant color everywhere. You don't even have to leave our property to see an unbelievable display of Fall colors. There are huge crafts faires over Thanksgiving weekend and there are classical music festivals in the Fall and throughout the year. Professional theater and our Center for the Arts concerts and events take place year round. In the winter, the towns of Nevada City and Grass Valley both hold street fairs in the month of December prior to Christmas and the towns are decorated to look like something out of a Victorian fairy tale. Winter brings ski-ing and within an hour, you can be at major ski resorts in Lake Tahoe. In the spring, quince, daffodils and everything else is in bloom, frogs are croaking and the river will be flowing. In the summer, you can swim in our magnificent Yuba River, hike, stroll to Farmers Markets, attend music festivals and just enjoy. Weddings abound in our area from Spring through the Fall so if you are part of the wedding party or a guest coming from out of town, make your reservations now. The cozy Mama Bear's Cabin up the hill from Papa Bear's Lodge and Baby Bear's Cottage (see listings #46584, and #72370), is available year round.

The cabin has two bedrooms and 1 bath. Please note that the base rate is for 2 guests only. The additional guest charge is $20/nt. per person up to 5 guests max. There is a queen-size bed, a double bed and double pull-out futon (in living room) to accommodate up to 5 people. It is best suited for up to 4 adults or a family of 4 or 5 with young children.. In the living room is a gas hearth stove that heats the space nicely. The kitchen is equipped with all the basics. Enjoy the large hot tub which awaits just off the back deck.
Some games and books are provided for your leisure. This is a great place for the honeymoon couple or small family. If you are booking Papa Bear's Lodge for a larger group, this is the perfect place for overflow guests who want a little more privacy.

Hiking and biking trails are near by. Gold panning, (you can rent pans locally) golf ( at Nevada County Country Club). Kayak and paddle board rentals are available at Scotts Flat Lake or Rollins Lake. We are only 3.5 mies from the beautiful South Yuba River.

Please note that we are next to an 80 acre summer camp. During the months of May-August camp is in session and you will hear 'happy' camp noises from time to time during the day. Quiet hours start at 9:30 p.m for the campers, 10:00p.m. for our cabin guests.

Swimming, tennis and a children's play ground are in Nevada City and Grass Valley. We are just a 45 minute drive to the nearest ski area for downhill or cross country skiing, and sledding. Downtown Nevada City is two and a half miles away, where you will find fine dining, wine tasting, great theater, musical entertainment, art galleries and a fun shopping experience in this charming historic gold rush town.

Historic Grass Valley is just another three miles away with more of the same, and we are 1 1/2 hours drive from either Sacramento or Tahoe.

There is a phone for local calls. ** Cell phones do not work well here but you can text or use wifi calling. The internet is slow and the wifi can be spotty. It's all we can get out here.

In July is the return of the Worldfest with 8 stages of music, children's programs, workshops, dance, artisans and international food.

Enjoy Victorian Christmas, the first three Wednesday nights, and the last Sunday before Christmas. You'll find artisans, food vendors and all the shops open late. The gas streetlights, Victorian carolers, and friendly merchants make this the place to visit and shop for the holidays.

Area: The Yuba River, with many deep pools and massive smooth boulders is only minutes from our home. A beautiful trail meanders along its banks for miles.
Lake Vera is a small lake surrounded by summer camps. Our cabins are located on 5 acres next to Camp Augusta. In the summer months (late May to mid August) you can hear 'happy camp sounds' as children enjoy swimming, zip lining and singing around the camp fire, then off to bed by 9:30, quiet hour.

We want your lodging experience to be most enjoyable. Part of that enjoyment comes from selecting the vacation property that best fits your needs. Mama Bear’s Cabin was built in 1985 and is 650 sq. ft a good space for 2 to 4 people. The style is simple, clean and unpretentious. The kitchen is equipped with all the basics you need for cooking, but if you are a gourmet chef, this may not be the place for you. Some of the dishes are hand made pottery. Not everything matches. There is no dishwasher. Garbage needs to be disposed of carefully to avoid attracting those wild critters. Collecting compost scraps and recycling is required, and a conservative energy usage strongly encouraged. There is no central heat. There is a hearth stove, a wall furnace. and a window air conditioner. Please feel free to contact should you have questions or concerns after booking or during your stay. Note: Wifi is AT&T and is unreliable. Checking emails is usually ok, but surfing the net is hit or miss. If you need better wifi, please consider another option.

An adorable and private cottage in downtown Nevada City - just a few minutes walk to the shops, galleries, cafes, bars, restaurants, and events of the charming and historic Nevada City. The Downtown Bungalow features a bedroom with a queen memory foam bed, flat screen HD TV, closet and chair. The bathroom includes organic shampoo, conditioner, shower gel, and lotion, plus a hairdryer and luxurious towels. The kitchen has a full set up including a coffee cone, coffee press, burr coffee grinder, juicer and all the appliances, pans, and dishes you need for your stay (a regular 12-cup coffeemaker is available by request.) A gas grill is on the patio. There is a dining area and lovely outdoor patio under a pergola for your morning coffee or afternoon cocktail. We provide French coffee beans, tea, and sparkling water (+treats!) The Bungalow is a separate building on our property, with owner interaction at a minimum. There is private parking for one car. There is heat and AC (during warm months only) in the Bungalow, + a ceiling fan. Please note that the Bungalow is a small granny unit, appropriate for one person or a couple. The shower ceiling is on the low side!

Master Bed and Bathroom Suite that is a 10 minute walk to the center of Historic Downtown Nevada City. Private separate entrance and off street parking. Secluded deck overlooking a wooded setting and seasonal creek. Amenities include- refrigerator, microwave, coffee maker, television and Wi- Fi. Queen size bed. The house was originally built in 1898 and was completely remodeled about 20 years ago. This bedroom and bathroom suite is in the back of our house. You walk down 15 steps and through a gate on the side of the house and then up 5 more steps to get to the deck in front of the room. Highway 49 is not too far behind our house so you will hear highway noise. It gets very quiet at night. To the left of the deck we have a bird aviary. The room has its own separate heater, air conditioner and fan that you control with a remote control. It’s a mini split system that hangs on the wall….installed new in August 2024.
Our driveway has a downward slope to it. The majority of our guests have no trouble navigating up and down it but if you have a large vehicle you need to be comfortable about backing up the sloping driveway because there may not be enough room to turn around before you go up the driveway. It is an option to park up on the street.
Please no early check in or late check out. Proper cleaning between guests takes time😀. No refunds for weather.it does snow here approximately 2-4 weeks per year.

Both parking on-site and free Wifi are available at Near Hiking and Yuba River Nevada City Retreat!. The air-conditioned vacation home consists of 4 bedrooms, a living room, a fully equipped kitchen with a dishwasher and a coffee machine, and 2 bathrooms with a shower and a hair dryer. Towels and bed linen are provided in the vacation home. The accommodation has a fireplace.

Just 2.5 miles from downtown Nevada City you'll find Baby Bear's Cottage, a one bedroom, one bath, with your own private hot tub that has a view of the waterfall and pond, on 5 wooded acres adjacent to Papa Bear's Timber Lodge (listing # 46584). This cozy log cottage can be rented alone or for additional space when renting Papa Bear's Lodge. It is an ideal location for relaxing or exploring Nevada City , Grass Valley, or the South Yuba River, both only minutes away by car.
Please note that we are in an area that cannot receive a fast iternet signal. There is wifi calling, and you can check emails etc but streaming will be pretty impossible. There is a TV with satalite reception. The kitchen features a small stove with oven, microwave, and 3/4 size refrigerator. The bedroom boasts a comfortable king bed and the sounds of the waterfall directly outside. The air is fresh with pine and cedar scent. You are invited to hike their trails if it is the off season, (Camp is is session from May -August) by stopping in at their office and asking permission.
A $55 cleaning fee and 10% bed tax is charged in addition to the room rate. Extra guest charge for third guest is $15/nt. No pets are allowed in Baby Bear's Cottage for the benefit of our guests who have allergies. Sorry, no exceptions. In the heart of downtown Nevada City (2.5 miles) and Grass Valley (5 miles) you'll find great food, outstanding live theater and wonderful galleries and shops. Travel by car to skiing, river or lake kayaking and swimming. There are many bicycle trails through the surrounding hills and plenty of hiking triails. Local and out-of-town musicians can be heard almost any night of the week at several of the theater venues and restaurants. Check the Chamber of Commerce web site at the bottom of this page for information on the many special events happening in the area.Try your hand at gold panning at the Yuba River, and visit the Historic Empire Mine. This area is ideal for mountain bikers, kayakers and hikers, and, for those looking for a romantic getaway. Lake Vera is a small lake surrounded by summer camps and used exclusively by them. ( Our guests have no access.) Our 3 cabins are located on 5 acres next to Camp Augusta. In the summer months (late May to mid August) you can hear 'happy camp sounds' as children enjoy swimming, zip lining and singing around the camp fire, then off to bed by 9:30, quiet hour. You are invited to hike their trails if it is the off season, (Camp is is session from May -August) by stopping in at their office and asking permission. This is the perfect spot to unwind, and although Papa Bear's Lodge is next door, their activities and outdoor area and porch are away from Baby Bear's Cottage. The waterfall goes 24 hours so if you are sensitive to water sounds at night, this may not be the place for you. On a dark night you can see the milky way. You may see a deer or two wander through the yard. this is definitely a special place.

It was fairly easy to find, the check in was perfect because we didn’t even have to do anything, it was just ready for us without anyone. It was also private and quiet. Everything was so perfect and comfortable and cozy that I didn’t want to leave! It had the ultimate cozy cabin vibe. We will be back for sure."
