- "We had a great time! Cabin was cute and had all the amenities we needed. Close to great spots on the Yuba, with kayaks and assorted watercraft to use on the pond. Great, quick getaway!" - "My family had a wonderful 3 nights here and we are already talking about our next visit!!" - "Cute cabin with nice space outside for kids to run around. Very comfortable." - "Wonderful quiet place. Kathryn communicated very clearly there was no water in the lake when I was there, and it was still very beautiful and quiet! I didn't realize when I rented the cabin there was no cel service or internet at the cabin, and the two tv's there were not hooked up. But that turned out to be a great opportunity to unplug completely. The cabin is charming, with nice details and beautiful surroundings, only 10 minutes to town. They clearly know what they're doing in organizing things perfectly for a place like this, and I really enjoyed the stay. I supposed one suggestion might be that the full carpeting in the bedroom seems to hold pet smell a lot, maybe a throw-rug would work as well and keep the air a bit better? But overall, the place was comfortable, quiet, beautiful, and well cared for. What a great little retreat space -- very quiet and close to town!"

( Our guests have no access.) Our 3 cabins are located on 5 acres next to Camp Augusta. This is the perfect spot to unwind, and although Papa Bear's Lodge is next door, their activities and outdoor area and porch are away from Baby Bear's Cottage. Whether you are looking for a peaceful get-a-way with your Family, A quiet place to work, a trip with friends, a romantic get-a-way, fun at the lake near by or a cozy snow cabin; we have it all for you here !!!
- "Our recent stay was an absolute dream for our work team + our 1.5 year old & doggy. This was our first getaway as a company and Geeta truly made it special. Traveling with a baby and a dog can be stressful but Geeta’s place was completely baby proofed and very dog friendly, equipped with a baby gate, a baby carrier, a doggy waste station, a leash and dog bowl! We really appreciated the highchair and the baby utensils. We also found two tricycles in the garage which were an instant hit with the baby. You definitely won’t have to bring your own baby toys with, as this house included children’s books, toys, games, and even an electronic activity/learning station. The kitchen was a huge highlight of our stay. It had any appliance you would need. Every night we made elaborate meals that wouldn’t have been possible in a smaller kitchen. We appreciated the wide variety of spices on the rack and the breakfast corner with complementary snacks and cereals. We made use of the bbq grill as well! We also appreciated the beautifully set table upon our arrival. Thank you, Geeta for making our first work trip one for the books. We would 100% recommend anyone stay here and will tell our friends about it."

The house is packed with everything we needed - kitchen items, robes (great for the hot tub), indoor and outdoor games, puzzles, books, shampoos, and soaps .... it was like staying at your best friend's lodge in the woods. We've put a lot of time, energy and thought into making this a special mountain getaway retreat in a very special little town and know that you'll have a wonderful time in our home!
Guests have access to the entire house, including the garage. The home is three stories, including the lower garage/media room level, so it is a requirement to be able to go up and down stairs. Additionally, the house is located on a slight slope with gravel paths and stairs for access to the front door. Being able to navigate slightly loose, uneven terrain is also a necessity.
A local property manager is available for any onsite needs or questions.
Other things to note:
PG&E Public Safety Power Shutoff Potential - Much of Northern California, Nevada City included, is subject to power shut offs from the local utility, PG&E, when it is determined that weather conditions are creating a high fire danger (typically, high winds, low humidity and warm). The cabin is equipped with a Tesla PowerWall battery back-up, so power should not be interrupted at the house, HOWEVER, when running on back-up battery, the air conditioning will not work and major appliances (washer/dryer & dishwasher) should not be used to conserve battery energy. By booking the cabin you acknowledge that there is the potential for loss of power in the area and at the house during your stay. Refunds will not be given if a power shutoff in the area is predicted or occurs.
Winter Conditions - While rare, it can snow in Nevada City in the winter and our Cabin is at a slightly higher elevation than town, meaning more snow. The gravel driveway is on a slope leading up to the house and is not easily plowed. If there is snow forecast, it's highly recommended to have a 4WD car with chains and/or have enough food and wood provisions for a cozy weekend snowed in. If enough snow falls and your car cannot make it up, you may be required to park at the bottom of the driveway and walk the short distance up to the house. Snow shovels and sleds provided.
Early Check-In/Late Check-Out: If it can be accommodated (no one else is checking in or out on your arrival or departure day), we can sometimes offer either early or late check out, outside of the typical hours of 4 p.m. check-in/11 a.m. check out, at a rate of $10 per hour. However, we typically will not know if the request will be possible more than 1-2 days prior to check-in. If you know that you'll need an early check-in/late check-out, consider booking another night!
Potential for noise - The house is a log cabin and the floors upstairs are the ceilings for downstairs without any insulation. Noise travels easily between the two floors.
No Smoking - This is a no smoking house and property. If it is found that any substance has been smoked anywhere on the property (particularly inside the house anywhere - including basement/garage), you will be charged $250 for smoke remediation.
- "Casi’s home will quickly become your home during your stay. It really has all you could possibly expect, super well provisioned kitchen, comfortable beds, linens, lots of room for e everyone. Make sure you make use of the lovely deck out front. It’s a great spot to regroup after the day’s activities and the front porch is so nice for watching the stars and chatting before bed. Don’t miss the chance to stay here." - "My daughter lives in Nevada City and planned her wedding there. I wanted to be close to her, downtown and the wedding venue and this house was ideal. My one question was answered promptly, otherwise all details were apparent (it helps to look at the book!). We didn’t cook much due to the excellence of local restaurants—South Pine always for breakfast, New Moon and Lefty’s for dinner, but in normal circumstances the kitchen would have been a delight for family meals. Consider this our family destination when we visit the newlyweds!"

The best vacation rental in Nevada City! Snippets from our reviews:
"Wow. This was by far the best VRBO I've ever stayed at, and I've stayed at dozens." -Michael
"I don’t know how many times our group kept commenting on how amazing the place was." -Crystal
Kindly read through the entire description before booking. Thank you :)
Creekfront designer cabin on 8 acres with hot tub. The private creek is year-round and perfect for dipping on a hot day. There is a large fire pit, horseshoes, and a hammock by the creek. Seclusion and quietude in nature yet 4 minutes to downtown Nevada City, 15 min to rivers & lakes, and 45 min to ski resorts. This is the place for people who are tired of rentals that lack amenities or aesthetic quality. This is also a non-toxic, eco-friendly sanctuary.
There are four bedrooms in the main house and an optional separate studio to rent. (Note the description says this is 5 bedrooms-- so if only renting the main house you are renting 4 bedrooms, or you can optionally add the studio for a fifth bedroom.) The main house has two bedrooms with king beds, one bedroom with a twin bed and a twin air mattress (if needed but please request ahead of time), and an enclosed den with a queen murphy bed. This allows 8 people to sleep comfortably in the main house (more with the studio if needed-- see below). There are 3 bathrooms in the main house, one with a lux freestanding soaking tub with forest views.
For 9-11 guests, or if you just want extra space for a smaller party, you can rent the separate studio for $125/night plus $125 cleaning fee. This is discounted from our regular rates. The studio is beautifully renovated with a queen bed, full kitchen, bathroom, and living area with sofa for a child or young adult to sleep on. Photos for the studio are in this listing photo set. To rent the studio, please check with me about its availability before booking, and then make your booking here with the total amount of people staying in the main house *and* the studio.
The kitchen is fully equipped-- this is not like other rentals that lack wine glasses or cooking pans! We have a Ninja blender, instant pot/slow cooker, toaster, French press coffee maker, coffee grinder, lots of dishes and utensils, state of the art drinking water filtration system, gas oven and stove, baking dishes and pans, and more. You'll also be provided with organic cooking oil and organic spices.
The owner specializes in non-toxic home design so everything from the mattresses and bedding to the soap & shampoo are non-toxic, eco-friendly, and/or organic.
You have complete reign of the 8 acre property, including the hot tub, and private creekfront park with gazebo, fire pit, and horseshoe pit. Sometimes we rent out a studio on the property (or you can rent it-- see details above), but studio guests do not have access to acres of the property that are just for you, so the hot tub, fire pit, gazebo, horse shoe pit, and more is yours. If you want total privacy, we can block out the studio from being rented for an additional $75/night, or you can rent it for $125/night plus $125 cleaning fee (see details above).
Pack and play, bassinet, and dining table booster seat with tray are available! Please just bring your own sheet for the pack and play or bassinet. We also have a twin air bed, which is usually needed if 8 guests are staying in the main home (if the studio is not rented). Please request the air bed in advance of your arrival so we can set it up for you.
It can occasionally snow in Nevada City in the winter (December or January - March). If staying here when it snows, you will need snow chains and/or a 4WD vehicle to access the home. (Alternatively, you could park on the snow-plowed street but the driveway is quite long and steep so would be a trek to carry luggage.)
No parties or events, and please ask if you want to invite anyone to the home who is not in the guest count at booking.
We love dogs and do not discriminate against breeds! Please just confirm at time of booking that your pup will not go to the bathroom in the house or chew any items in the house.
- "The property is very comfortable and with the stream and horseshoes near the stream it is an enjoyable area to spend the day. The property has everything you need to relax and getaway from it all." - "My Husband & I loved this property!!! We were impressed by the private driveway, complete privacy, beautiful home & gorgeous property! We were minutes from downtown Nevada City, yet felt miles away. We loved the quality built home, large windows, views, deck, spa, walking trails, gently flowing river, horseshoe pits, gazebo and the several areas to sit and take it all in and enjoy! Every direction you looked was beautiful!!!The home has a large family room, dinning area, well appointed kitchen and very comfortable bedding and bed. If you are looking for a restful retreat as a couple, family or friends you won't be disappointed! The pictures are nice but they don't really do the property justice. For us this home was a 10.Our only regret was having to pull away and leave this peaceful mountain home!"

Experience the Beauty of the Sierra foothills and the Yuba River in our Yurt tucked into the forest just 2 miles from downtown Nevada City. Country Living magazine listed Nevada City as one of the top 10 small cities. Grass Valley is 10 minutes away as well and has more food, shopping, and entertainment for you. Access to the Yuba River is as close as 20 mins to Edwards Crossing and 20 mins to Hoyts Crossing on Highway 49.
Come and relax! We have an outdoor (and indoor) shower, a claw foot bath tub, fire pit, and large deck to chill on. Surrounded by Ferns, Madrones, Incense Cedars, and Doug Firs, you will never know you are only two miles from town. We have hours of hiking right outside the yurt. Our property connects to the Woodpecker Preserve and the Gracie Trail if you hike up the mountain.
We absolutely recommend trying to stay for two or more nights so that you can get accustomed to the space, learn the property, settle in, and relax.
Things you might like to bring: headlamps, robe, flip flops, slippers, hiking shoes.
There is a wood-fired stove inside with plenty of wood stacked to keep you warm and there is a wood-fired hot tub that is dedicated to this yurt only. Both require a fire to be lit and maintained to keep it hot.
The kitchen is fully equipped with a hot plate, toaster oven, microwave, refrigerator, cutlery, pots and pans, grill, etc .There should be charcoal available, but if not, please plan to bring your own or go to the store..
Water: we are on a well and provide fresh drinking water in a container for you. It’s fine to drink, cook, and bathe with the water from the tap but it can have a minerally quality to it. We test the well annually. We provide filtered water but if it runs out, the water out of the tap is safe and delicious.
Sleep: we have a heating blanket for cold nights, It’s about 10 degrees cooler on our land than in town. This is a real treat during our hot summers. There will be a fan for you as well during the warm season.
Pets: We love them. Please clean up after them. Please put the protective striped sheets on the furniture to keep it hair-free if your pets jump up on the furniture.
If they do not get along with chickens, dogs, and cats please keep them on a leash. We have many animals on the property that roam freely. Most likely you won’t see them but I can’t guarantee it.
The hot tub: it’s wood-fired. This means you have to heat it with a fire to get it hot. This can take many hours to get to the right temperature. It’s a good idea to start a fire right when you get there! This tub may have leaves in it (they fall from above) and cloudy water. The water should NOT smell, the cloudiness is a part of the cedar tubs charm- ash from the fire and particulate from the cedar mix together. We treat it between guests with natural products that maintain the wood (you can’t use chlorine in these tubs). We clean it regularly. Please shower before using it to wash off any oils and sweat off your body. The outdoor shower is lovely :)

- "The yurt is wonderfully designed. The property is gorgeous, and the work they are doing to improve it even more is inspiring. The location feels very remote and tranquil. We will definitely come back again sometime. Thanks so much for your hospitality." - "Loved the simplicity of the yurt, and even without AC the fans and shade trees kept it comfortable. A beautiful and secluded location. Something about firing up and tending the hotub was deeply satisfying."

- "Fantastic week of swimming and relaxing." - "We had such an amazing time this past week for spring break. Pictures don't do it justice, lodge was very well appointed, beds were amazingly comfortable and the property was just beautiful. Can't beat a fire by the lake. It was fun because we were there the week the lake was filling up so everyday our paddling experience on the lake was different! Loved the wildlife - saw several types of birds, a couple of turtles, and heard the frogs. Great hikes in the area, we easily found a few that worked for our 4 year old and dog. We liked to go for a hike in the am and then come back to the lake to relax in the pm. Kathyn's communication was top notch - responsive and proactive. We hope to come again."

A magical three-bedroom A-frame retreat on ten wooded acres with private pond, Victorian-style tiny house, creek access, and miles of hiking trails. We are a family of four (an artist, a film-maker and two school-aged kids) who live here part-time. We are excited to share this epic off-the-grid compoundwith our guests and protect it for future generations. Dog friendly :) There is also a 30’ Pacific Yurt that can be added to this rental for an additional fee of $150/stay.
Because we are off-the-grid, we are not affected by power outages :)
We also have a 3-season outside full bathroom with shower which is great as a daytime backup. It is right outside the house.
This place is a wildlife paradise, and a dream for those wanting to get away from it all. The main cabin has everything you need, with an open-concept floor plan that is great for gatherings. We have an expandable dining table, a spacious light-filled living room, and a giant wrap-around deck with serene and inspiring forest views.
Master bedroom: a peaceful, spacious room on the ground floor (next to the bathroom) with a new king bed, reading and desk areas plus a separate door to the outside
Balcony Room: Upstairs, zen-like, with a memory-foam queen bed, lots of windows, and private small balcony overlooking the deck and forest
Triangle Room: Two stacked twin beds and lots of built-ins. This cozy room upstairs has a big beautiful window and lots of character.
Living Room: Our couch unfolds to sleep two guests.
In addition to the above, we have a thin twin mattress stored with the blankets and additional sleeping space in the Tiny House (see below). Our home has a central staircase that is not appropriate for kids between the ages of 1 and 5. Babies are fine.
TINY HOUSE
We have a fabulous Craftsman tiny house on the property that shares a bath with the main cabin. It hasits own little porch and a fold-out daybed that comfortably sleeps two adults. This charming little house is just downhill from the main cabin, and a perfect place for writing or quiet contemplation. The tony house has no bathroom, no water but does have heat and electric.
THE YURT
Our property also has an epic 30’ pacific Yurt set in the trees. Amazing for gatherings and workshops, it can be added to your rental for an additional nightly fee of $75. Please text us to let us know if you'd like to add the yurt to your rental. Note: the yurt has no heat or electric but we provide lanterns and you can bring charged devices down for music etc
LOCATION
The woods set the tone in this beautiful place. The cabin is a truly a peaceful and magical spot with endless birds, butterflies, wildflowers and the occasional fence lizard in warmer months. Looks for deer, owls, and maybe even a bobcat in fall and winter.
The cabin is nestled in a secluded park-like setting, but is less than 15 minutes to both Historic Nevada City and Grass Valley with lots of options for restaurants, nightlife and events. Less than 30 minutes to some of the best swimming spots on the Yuba River and Scott’s Flat Lake. About 20 minutes to Tahoe National Forest and about an hour to the snow in the Lake Tahoe area. We are 1/2 mile from the Cascade Canal Trail for excellent hiking and mountain biking.
Enjoy access to beautiful Little Deer Creek just a few hundred feet down the hill, or hang out by the pond. Miles of hiking and mountain biking trails 1/2 mile away, or stay close to home on the deck surrounded by beautiful forest views. We are on the cool side of Banner Mountain, which is great in the hot Summer months.
Giant Old Growth Cedar, Madrone, Douglas fir, Dogwood, Big Leaf Maple and Pacific Yew trees provide sanctuary for a wide variety of birds and wildlife. This includeseverything from deer, bears and mountain lions, to spiders and poison oak. Please be aware, responsible, and respectful of the plants and animals that share the forest with our beautiful home.
SOME IMPORTANT DETAILS
We provide blankets and pillows for 10, and enough bath towels for your group.
Please bring your own swim towels if heading to the river or lake.
Due to some architectural details around the staircase and central wood stove, be careful on the stairs with little kids and elders.
The house sleeps 8 (or 10 with the tiny house), but we are open to hosting larger gatherings or retreat activities in the yurt.
Phone reception is solid for Verizon, and most other carriers
We are about a 1/2 mile down a pretty narrow, semi-private dirt and gravel road. It is easily drivable by any car. There is a large parking lot with plenty of parking for multiple vehicles.
Tobacco smoking is allowed outdoors only. Wildfire prevention is critical, so we ask you smoke only on the decks and driveway and be extra careful with sparks and butts. Absolutely no outdoor fires.
Our home is totally OFF THE GRID!
We’ve upgraded all the systems that make our home run efficiently and sustainably, so that you can barely notice the property is entirely off-the-grid. You can turn on lights and plug things in, use the WIFI, take a hot shower and stay warm with the central wood stove and propane wall heater or cool with the ceiling fan.
Because we are off-grid, we ask that you be energy-smart when in our home. Turn off lights when not in use and be mindful of high-energy appliances like blowdryers, vacuum and the toaster.
Our fresh mountain spring water comes from a private well.
Our friendly care-takers live in the barn right behind the main house. They will give you plenty of space but are available to help out with things if needed - just send them a text.
- "This was a bit of a last minute reservation as we had a change in plans and needed to travel into Nevada City for a few days. First - Paulina was beyond friendly and responsive - super easy to work with and quick to answer questions! The house was very clean, comfortable, and in an absolutely amazing location. Both my husband and I worked from the home while our kids were at camp. The internet was a bit tough - but Paulina had warned us and we had no trouble if we used our phone hotspots and were able to have video calls (with our own videos turned off). If you are planning to work from home up here - recommend having your own hot spot on your phone. While it is rural - directions were clear to get here and no trouble getting there with a minivan. Beds were very comfortable, kitchen well-appointed (note - no dishwasher or washer/dryer so prepare/pack accordingly), plenty of great places to work within and outside the house, games/puzzles our kids enjoyed, and even a large collection of movies. Our golden doodle loved it too! Highly recommend this house and if we ever find ourselves in Nevada City again would DEFINITELY rent from here."

Set back from the bustle of Broad Street, you’d be hard-pressed to find another luxury cabin in Nevada City that offers as many must-haves as The Antler. Steps to downtown, situated directly on little Deer Creek, with a private driveway and on-site parking. A private wrap-around deck with a sunk-in hot tub. High ceilings, w/natural wood beams, a Creekside fire pit in the evenings for s'mores and stories, and an overall quiet, calm, nurturing vibe. Love your life and times at the Antler!
You may want to curl up to the romantic wood stove in the living room w/ a good book or settle in with a movie on the large flat screen. Dine al fresco while taking in the best creek views in town. With luxury prioritized, The Antler provides organic mattresses, down blankets and pillows, high-end linens, towels, and robes. Every texture just right.
An echo of minimal Scandinavian design allows for much of the art and beauty to be supplied by nature herself. The Antler is both refined and soothing, modern, and stream-lined while somehow remaining a cozy and warm cabin.
Stroll to the famous Stone House for a delicious meal and then to Pioneer Park for Movies Under the Pines.
- "We loved our stay here, and would absolutely book it again. The house is so cute and charmingly decorated, with everything we needed for a comfortable home base. The view out the back windows is so pretty with all the trees and little creek, we saw lots of birds and butterflies, and even a couple of deer. It’s a very short walk to downtown with lots of nearby restaurants and shops. The owner was also very friendly and responsive, an overall great host."
