- "This rental was exactly as listed and perfect for our family to gather especially with an active infant. The house was clean, well laid out, and communication was great with the owner. We will definitely look to stay here whenever we are in the area. It rained a lot during our stay so we weren't able to enjoy the outside as much but having a covered carport was an added benefit. " - "Very clean and new home in a quiet neighborhood. "

Other things to note
Our spaces are very old, compact and efficient, and we love that about them! Choices for layout and items on board were made based upon this. A few quick notes:
- TVs are available upon request - just let us know when you book. (Having no TVs is part of our style choice, but we’re happy to accommodate and want you to be cozy!)
- Keep in mind the Train Wreck Inn is composed of spaces that are old and quirky. We take pride in their condition and cleanliness, but note that they are actual pieces of history / not brand new.
- Kitchens are custom built and fully stocked. We provide an electric kettle and French press + local coffee and tea. (Instructions to use French press and electric stove are included in your Check In Guide. There is also an electric coffee pot in the cabinet if you prefer.)

Once the home of Governor Jean-Batiste LeMoyne Sieur de Bienville’s high interpreter’s son, Jean-Batiste Andre LaFleur, the tri-plex Creole cottage with a center hall was a place of elegance and charm. Surrounded by private gardens and an ornamental circular pond, the house exuded a sense of history and grandeur.
The elegant French doors, hardwood floors, board & baton shutters with cast iron hinging, chair rails, and beamed ceilings created a warm and inviting atmosphere. Each room was adorned with exquisite chandeliers, adding a touch of old-world glamour to the space. The three well-appointed bedrooms with private baths offered a sense of luxury and comfort, making it a truly special place to call home.
The house was said to be haunted by the ghost of a young girl who had once lived there, adding a sense of mystery to the already intriguing place.
As Chef John explored the house and its surroundings, he couldn’t help but be drawn into the stories and legends that surrounded it. He uncovered hidden rooms and forgotten relics, each one adding to the rich tapestry of history that had unfolded within those walls.
But as Chef John delved deeper into the past, he discovered a bittersweet truth. The house had been a sanctuary for the LaFleur family for generations, a place of joy and sorrow, love and loss. And as he uncovered the final secrets of the house, he realized that sometimes letting go of the past was the only way to truly move forward.
In the end, Chef John bid farewell to the tri-plex Creole cottage with a mixture of sadness and gratitude. The memories and stories he had uncovered would stay with him forever, a testament to the enduring spirit of a place that had once been home to Governor Jean-Batiste LeMoyne Sieur de Bienville’s high interpreter’s son. And as he walked away, he knew that the house would always hold a special place in his heart, a reminder of the beauty and complexity of the past.
Y'all come, spend some time with us and experience a world that once was, a place full of mystery and beauty, a place like none other, only at Lafleur Guest House.

- "Should have left a review earlier for our stay in July! Lovely and interesting property. All amenities provided, comfortably housed 6 with full kitchen and then some, renters were responsive and addressed any questions we had! We enjoy the outdoors so loved having the extra space.I would not recommend if you prefer a more city-like experience, but that is not a fault of the property itself, had a great time, and plenty of local shops, grocery and other nearby."

Bellevue Manor predominately offers short term rentals, BUT we offer discounted monthly or long term rentals or leasing (inquire within). The home is 141 years old furnished with original rare New Orleans antiques. I've personally owned the home since 2006, my extended family lived here since 1874. It is located on nearly 3.7 acres of land with several miniature horses and small barn on the property. The home has 12 foot ceilings, a little over 3,000 square ft. The house has 5 bedrooms, 2.5 baths, a library/study, dining room and kitchen. The house sleeps 10 people comfortably or 5 couples. The DOWNSTAIRS has 2 bedrooms, 1.5 baths, study/library, living room, dining room and kitchen. The UPSTAIRS has 3 bedrooms, a sitting area and has one full bath/shower. Outside has a BBQ and 900 sq.-ft. covered patio area. Evangeline Downs Racetrack and Casino is less than 5 minutes away. The house works out great for folks who don't want to rent several hotel rooms and prefer the option to have family and friend under one roof, like to cook or BBQ with family or friends privately. I've hosted guests who have come to Opelousas for local weddings, bridal groups who need a space to get ready or honeymoon suite, overseas tourists, private parities or used venue rental (priced separately). The west side of the property that is fenced can support ample parking for large events (about 2 acres). The photos describe which bedrooms are upstairs and downstairs. If you wish to learn more on the history of Bellevue Manor & it's builder you internet search the builder: Rudolph Adelbert Sebastian Mayor or google his name. He was an accomplished composer, musician, founder of one of the first all woman's brass ensemble in the South, inventor of one of the first pre-civil war breech-loading rifles and inventor of one the first from of color photography, among other things.
SPECIAL EVENTS: The home is ideal for photo shoots, special events, brides venue to get ready, private parties, corporate events and wedding receptions are separate pricing and considered a VENUE RENTAL. WEDDINGS, RECEPTIONS, VOW RENEWALS, PRIVATE PARTYS, WORK EVENTS ARE CONSIDERED A "SPECIAL EVENT" therefore the RATE is SEPARATE CONSIDERING it is VENUE RENTAL and approved per inquiry ONLY since the price needs to be adjusted on my calendar prior to booking. The VENUE rental rate is $1,800 for the day of the event, which INCLUDES the overnight accommodations for 10-12. If you don't know if your group is falls into the special event, ask please. Special events include such events as weddings, receptions, private parties, family reunions, graduation parties, bridal showers, etc. For SPECIAL EVENTS/RECEPTIONS we welcome the option to bring in your own caterer and beverages. Decorating, table rentals, outdoor lighting, optional and/or by referral. If you need recommendations, please inquire. Holiday rates apply during the year, but are quoted on your inquiry. Rates may change with guests at during seasonal times.
RENTAL EXCEPTION: If a bride has already chosen a wedding venue or reception venue elsewhere, BUT the bridal party needs a place for herself and her bridesmaids to get ready and take some photos, we treat this as a standard nightly rental rate, NOT a special event rate, but a TWO-night minimum still applies. We encourage quest to read, study and enjoy the antique artifacts, but please avoid handling them as we've had a few accidents. Will definitely reserve again when we travel back!" - "A beautiful home. Super clean. Very responsive host. Would absolutely stay here again." - "We enjoyed our two weeks stay, while doing some remodeling to our home. The home was tucked away in a hidden quiet neighborhood, but just minutes away from I-49. The home was absolutely perfect, it was very clean, plus had all the basics you’d need for your day to night stays; clean sheets, bedding, clean towels, cleaning supplies, washing detergents, soaps, etc. During our stay, we had problems with no hot water, so when we mentioned that to the home owners, the went to action right away…. They called a plumber to come see about it, which they had the whole hot water heater replaced with a brand new one, so we’d have hot water, by that evening. We really enjoyed our stay and appreciate the fast action to make our stay feel extra special. Thanks so very much! Scenery, ♥️🏡The Wyble’s Family"

- "Na" - "Fresh linens, fresh paint, fresh air. Wonderful home base to visit Church Point, Washington, St Martinville and Lafayette, Louisiana." - "Great location between Lafayette & Opelousas with easy access. Very clean and decently stocked w/ dishes, pots, pans, & utensils. Fully furnished kitchen. Well stocked with bath tissue, dish & laundry soap, coffee pods, & other amenities. Good quality paper goods, linens, & towels. Full sized washer & dryer were great. Central A/C & ceiling fans in bedrooms were very nice. Beds were VERY comfortable (headboards?). Lots of closets. Overall layout is very efficient & works well. Neighborhood was very quiet. New faucets in the bathroom & kitchen sinks! We enjoyed having a full-sized tub - more on that later. We slept well there & will definitely try to stay there again when in the area!As much as we liked it, some areas for improvement but no deal-breakers: The water is sulfury so we had some rust stained hot water in the tub the 1st couple of days with a slight sulfury smell. We bought bottled water to use for drinking, cooking, & ice. Consider putting a 5-gal bubbler in the kitchen. Tub/Shower arrangement is difficult/awkward. Curtains drag in the bottom of the tub - potential hazard to shower & nuisance for bathing. Very limited bathroom storage for personal items and toiletries. Add a small, inexpensive standing shelf in the corner. Add a small corner shelf above sink. Add towel hooks over locked door. After very heavy rain, water pooled around car near back door. Kitchen cabs stick or don't latch. Kitchen drawers need help.VRBO very responsive! We'll be back!"

- "We loved this cute little rental. We didn't tour the area much because we were in town for a wedding about 20 minutes away in Lafayette. The property manager was attentive and helpful with anything we needed. Everything was as expected and they even warmed up the rental before we stayed, as it was very cold when we visited. So it was nice and toasty Definitely recommend staying here for a little getaway! " - "The apartment was adorable and the hosts were extremely accommodating to a couple of our special requests. Would definitely stay here again in this sweet little town. Can hopefully make it through when some of the local businesses are open. It was perfect for our visit to the Courir de Mardi Gras in Church Pointe which was soooo fun! "

The Rustic Retreat guest house is the only one on the property so guests will not share any spaces with other guests. It is its own separate space located near the main house. Guests have your own parking spot. The house is a studio suitable for 2 adults (13 and over) only. There is a kitchen with a double burner, pot, pan, cooking utensils, coffee pot and microwave. It is also stocked with essentials such as coffee, tea, seasonings, and cooking oil. There is 1 queen bed and 1 bathroom with a sink and shower. Towels and linens are provided.
Our space was completely designed and created by us! From the watering can shower head and wooden shower pan, to the newspaper walls and several pieces from family, friends and even previous owners. We put our heart and soul into this little place and we can't wait to share it with you!
Things to note:
-2 ADULTS (13 and older) only
-NO CHILDREN
-NO OUTSIDE VISITORS without host permission
-NO SMOKING allowed anywhere on the property, inside or outside

- "Great, quiet, peaceful get away in the country, minutes away from the highway. Beautiful accommodations! Host’s attention to detail amazing all throughout our two night stay, up to checkout, kept coming across little personal touches! Will definitely stay here again Medical time we in the area. Would love to see it in the spring!" - "Guests are staying on the farm and can enjoy viewing the chickens, rabbits and various rows of vegetables. This property is close to Church Point, Sunset, Grand Coteau and Carencro. The cottage has a small mini-kitchen area. The hosts were very helpful in making our stay a good one!"

★ A very unique fun & inspiring place to get away and recharge or just lay back, relax - or get some work done - Covid-conscious & safety-oriented
★ Live, breathe, sleep, eat, drink, laugh (and, yes, work even) in Folk Art - literally
★ Large 40+ ft. long porch, a copper crowned 14' x 16' bandstand in front - "ain't nothin' like it anywhere" New mini-split AC/Heat
★ Plenty of grocery options, restaurants & antique stores within 10 minutes
★ On owner-occupied property near Lafayette
In 2021, we began listing the Folk Art Tower, but our guests over the years have given us over 400 Five Star reviews for their experiences. Way down yonder (that is, here in South Louisiana) we are called "da Superhosts".
★ It’s the basics - sleep, toilet and a shower, and a place to make food. WAIT! It's a LOT MORE than the basics. It's our funky palace dedicated to Folk Art. And, did you know? Yes, you can LIVE INSIDE FOLK ART - literally.
We have downsized the kitchen area to make it more "social", and, we have created a functional "kitchenette" - therefore, if you want to do extensive cooking we suggest you look at our Folk Art Barn or Folk Art Honky Tonk - both have full kitchens.
We will let our guests help tell the rest of our story,
"This spot is the epitome of the vacation rental experience for me. If you are suspicious because the price seems too low for the size and amenities, don’t be, because it is even more fabulous live than it looks online. The hosts seem more concerned that you have a relaxing time in a special space than they are about pricing. They also offer European pricing so you pay a bit more per person but if you’re a single, you pay the lowest rate. This is thoughtful for the solo traveler. We stayed in two of the (currently) three lodging options. We loved both. With the cabin, you have very large bedrooms on either side of a common area, so if you are two couples, you may want to choose that one for more sleeping privacy. With the tower the bedrooms are smaller and adjacent but you have an absolutely massive common area. All spaces are filled with art, a lot of it local, and interesting objects to look at. The spaces are both playful, with unique light switches and hidden lighting options. They could almost write a guidebook to the lodging features itself but that may take away some of the fun of discovering it on your own. The hosts themselves are very engaging, if you want them to be, or they will give you space if that’s your desire. They responded almost immediately to any question we had. I could have happily spent the week chilling at the property, under the pecan trees or on any of our very large porches, but we followed their guidebook on various local options for kayak tours of Lake Martin (do it, absolutely incredible) and local state parks like Chicot (also incredible). This space and experience made me and my friend very happy and I felt better about the world knowing Jim and Christy are in it. Highly recommend. Would love to return again."
"Jim and Christy are absolute gems. As hosts, they do everything you can ask for and more - they provide you with the true South Louisiana experience. Regardless of where you're staying, you're in for a treat."
"Truly why we love vacation rentals. Locals who show their lives and make you a part of it. One of those never to forget travel experiences. Definitely go and get a deep dive Louisiana experience!"
"We like to think vacation rentals were created for these kind of accommodations. The location is wonderful but the best part is the hosts. Jim and Christy are amazing people who provide their wary travelers with everything they could hope for. We can advise you this: Go! You will forever remember the experience!"
- "We suddenly needed someplace to stay for Festival International when our family hosts had a medical emergency. We wanted to be close to Church Point family and also close to Lafayette for Festival. The Folk Art Tower was the perfect answer. My wife and I are artists and were delighted by the creative space that Jim and Christy have created in the middle of Cajun country. Their appreciation and embracing of the culture and giving an outlet for artists, whether the artist uses a musical instrument, a paint brush or paper mâché (Evangeline Maid bread!). The whole "compound" is like an artistic scavenger hunt, you'll truly be really surprised everywhere you look. The lounge/common area is a really relaxing place to unwind, or maybe out on the front porch or out on the gazebo. I feel like I'm writing an ad for this place, but really, we've stayed in a looooot of places and this is truly the best of them all."
