The Elgin Valley is well known for its exceptional cool climate wines, mountain biking and other adventure sports, and its incredible views. The weather is changeable, so come prepared to deal with both cold and warm days.

Guest access
Nicky or Paul will generally meet you on arrival. If this is not possible, the keys will be in a key safe and you will be provided with the code. The cottages are alarmed.

Other things to note
Our wines are known as "cool climate wines" for good reason. Whilst the days can be warm, even hot, the nights cool down significantly. However, the cottages are well equipped with heaters, electric blankets and, most recently, an internal fireplace has been installed.

You are welcome to walk around the farm during your stay at Cheverells. Please respect the privacy of the other cottages as well as the residences.

Ensure that you have good walking shoes or gumboots, especially if the weather is rainy – the paths can be very muddy.

The main entrance road continues all the way down to a beautiful dam to walk around, you are also free to weave your way through the orchards on your way back to the cottages.

The Road House situated on a 38Ha Apple Farm is designed for open plan living, the house is spacious and modern with a large, open grass area for children and dogs to romp around.

The house has three bedrooms. The Main bedroom is en-suite with shower, toilet and basin. The other two rooms share a bathroom with spa bath, shower, toilet and a double basin. You have a choice of either single or king beds. The lounge / dining area leads to a stoep with views of our apple, plum and pear orchards. There are braai (barbecue) facilties inside and out. Wood, firelighters and braai utensils are provided along with tea, coffee, milk, sugar and rusks.

WATER: As our farm sits on a natural spring, you will be able to enjoy longer showers. You can even bring up your washing to the cottage!

In August 2016, we moved from the beautiful bustle of Seapoint to the peaceful Houw Hoek Valley. The cottage we moved into was full of charm but needed some serious TLC.

What started off as a "touch-up" quickly snow-balled into a full renovation! We carefully created a space that we loved and that we lived in for a year. We've recently moved onto a larger property but have left the cottage as is. This means it really is a home away from home, with all the bits and bobs you need.

After 1 year of Airbnb-ing the cottage; we built The Hatchery!

Appliances and finishes are of the highest standard, and we guarantee you a comfortable, clean space.

More importantly though is the location. Set on a working farm with orchids and mountain views. Watch the seasons change from the perspective of a pear or apple tree...from the snow-white blossom in Spring to the pendulous branches of fruit before harvest! Swap hooting cars for hooting owls and barking dogs for croaking frogs!

Also recently added! A BRAND NEW fire place! As Elgin is the mountains, it tends to get quite cold in the winters, so we deiced to set the tone by adding a beautiful wood-fired fire place for those wintry nights!

You are set below our home with a private entertainment area away from the main homestead but with the security of our fence and our friendly Malamute and Labby securing the boundary.

Other things to note
We started this Airbnb following the success of our Oaktree cottage. What we have learnt from the process is to be as upfront as possible regarding any details which some guests may be averse to. Please read through the following so there are no surprises when you arrive:

The Hatchery is situated on a working farm. This means that farm staff may at times be working in the orchard around the property. The low murmur of people chatting while they work in the orchards should not be distracting but we thought it was worth mentioning.

On rare occasion tractors will move through the orchard spraying the trees.

We have never had any problems with security, but the idea that farmers live with all their doors unlocked is probably a bit outdated. The cottage is 100% secure if all doors are locked so we advise this when you go to sleep or if you leave the cottage during the day. Don't leave valuables outside in the garden overnight or cars unlocked.

Dog friendly: What does this mean? As much as we love our animals we are extremely proud and clean hosts. This means as the unit is dog friendly, it still means people without dogs use our cottages. Dogs are dogs and in our opinion nature has bread them to be outside. However, we have provided a specific room or undercover area for your dogs as well as a kennel for the dogs outside. We have further made sure the property is closed off so when you go wine tasting or for a lunch, your dogs are protected outside, not only from running away but from the natural elements, with either a garage or an undercover parking area depending on the unit you are in, please enquire.

Most importantly, Dogs are not to be on couches, even with throws or in the bedrooms. These areas are not permitted if your dog is inside for a short while, A dog bed must be brought with for you animals.
A dog fee of R390 is charged per animal. Max 2 animals, No puppies, R2000 deposit before you arrive.
No animals in any of the bedrooms.

Please question us further with regards to having dogs in the apartment for no confusion.
