- "Lovely mud brick cottage with cosy furnishings, comfy bed , beautiful natural surroundings and very helpful hosts." - "Our hostess, Esther was awesome! All the instructions in the booklet is clear. There are even alpacas and sheep for us to feed. But we couldn't see the other animals we saw in the website but that's ok." - "The property and entire area was absolutely beautiful and a very relaxing place to stay. The location was ideal, being only a short drive to Pemberton town and a number of stunning natural attractions. We loved the walk trails next to the property and enjoyed having the opportunity to feed the Alpacas and sheep each morning, which live on the adjoining paddock. We also really appreciated the cosy, rustic feel of the cottages and it felt very quiet and private despite them being close together. The beds were super comfortable, the cottage was clean and well equipped with everything needed; even though we did bring half the house with us, next time we'll know it's not necessary. It was lovely to have steamy hot water for showers and a hot lamp in the bathroom was a nice surprise. The cottages also have log fires which come with very easy lighting instructions and wood is topped up daily. Reverse cycle air conditioning and ceiling fans are also fitted. The owners were extremely hospitable and accomodating and we definitely look forward to staying here again one day! Thank you so much for the experience Esther and Steve!"

Karri Lakeside
House
Quinninup, Western Australia, Australia

Karri Lakeside is a quaint lakeside cottage, nestled in amongst the towering trees of the old timber milling town of Quinninup. Sitting on a quiet lakefront location away from passing traffic ensures total relaxation, with the large block enhancing the feeling of privacy, serenity and space.

There is direct access to the lakeside walk track from the property, with other bush tracks through the forest nearby. A birdwatcher's paradise with native fauna regularly visiting and a profusion of wildflowers in Spring.

It offers three bedrooms, including a comfortable queen and two singles in each of the other bedrooms. All beds have electric blankets, doonas & pillows. All linen and towels are provided, along with some old favourite board games and DVDs. Ideal for a family or a couple looking to get away from it all.. and by this we mean a tech detox as well!

As much as wifi is available in the area, we have intentionally left the house without it and even mobile phone reception is quite poor around the property to allow for a complete detach from the everyday realities. As much as this might not suit everyone, several have found it incredibly refreshing.

There is a house phone for making calls which guests are invited to use, as well as mobile phone reception (limited to certain providers) up at the local tavern and free WiFi at the community centre. Conveniently located next to the children’s playground.

Settle in front of the cosy wood fire, wake up to the sun rising over the lake from the verandah view and enjoy visits from the local wildlife. Before heading out for a bush walk, enjoying the tranquil lake or exploring the greater areas’ many treasures. Simplicity at its best.

Security note: This property is only managed in Australia. Do not respond to requests for payments to overseas bank accounts.

Guest Reviews:

It was so cosy sitting in front of the fire and we also enjoyed sitting on the balcony overlooking the lake, watching and listening to the birds. Convenient location to Manjimup, Northcliffe, Windy Harbour and Pemberton. The Quinninup Tavern is less than a 5 minute drive with great food and service for dinner."

Guest Reviews:

- "Fantastic property. Have stayed here previously. Will be back." - "Eucalyptus House is well-maintained, with a well-equipped kitchen, and two living spaces so that you can have a "kids wing" and an "adults wing" if you like. We brought our ten month old daughter, and found it easy to feed her using the provided highchair and sitting area just by where it is stored. The main lounge area is safe for a supervised baby to crawl around, no tempting exposed cables in view or easily reachable power points (cabling is kept nearly behind the TV out of a baby's reach). There is a basket of toys appropriate for young children (some for babies, others for toddlers) and books, board games and DVDs also. We appreciated this beautiful home and the proximity to lots of walking paths through karri forest. It's also a short walk into town, with an IGA that is usually open until 6pm if you need any extra groceries. Plenty of space in the fridge and freezer to store food for your own meals. Very easy to cook on the gas stove. The towels provided were nice, and the hot water was consistent (better than at home!) The beds were also comfortable - one of us slept in the baby's room, the other in another room, so that one of us would be rested in the morning! A variety of pillows so that you can find one that matches your preferred density. Because the home is located at the end of a dead-end road, there is no direct traffic passing by, you can enjoy the sounds of the frogs at night. The rain sounded lovely on the roof, too!"

HISTORY:
The Glauder's Block is older than Pemberton!

The Glauder's block was part of the very first settlement ('Big Brook' as it was known) in the district even before Manjimup & Pemberton townsites.

The settlement was nestled on the banks of the Lefroy Brook at the end of the driveway on Glauders Road and next to Glauders Bridge. There were many buildings, large sheds and a school house of which only the foundations and three old walnut trees remain.
The ruins of a Blacksmith's shed still remain on the property at the end of the driveway and is the only visible evidence on the 'Big Brook' settlement. When the saw mill was built further upstream the settlement moved to that location, now know as Pemberton.

Joe Glauder's family, after whom the road was named, were among the first settlers around 1908. They chose the site at the junction of two rivers (Lefroy Brook & Warren River) where there was abundant, beautiful, fresh water and rich Karri loan soil.
Among others, the very prominent W.A. Michelides family settled on the opposite bank of the Lefroy, upstream towards the Cascade Waterfall. They had a large tobacco plantation and grew their very lucrative crop for the booming world market. They built a number of drying sheds and a small house, the ruins of which still remain today. Later a railway line was built to carry logs to the mill and the remains of a siding across the bridge still remain, as does the large timber bridge over the Warren River which now carries the very popular tourist tram operating out of Pemberton. Its horn can be heard twice a day as it makes its way along the old track.

The local prominent Drake family bought the property from Joe Glauder and continued farming the property for many years. They built a water wheel to provide water for the farm and part of the floodway can be seen today.

When the Hewitt family bought the property in 1997 the house was derelict, white ant ridden and rotting away. The locals thought the new-comers were crazy when they set about rebuilding the house. They added extra bedrooms and two bathrooms which were in keeping with the architectural style. A new farmhouse kitchen was added with all mod-cons such as a dishwasher, electric oven & hot plates. In addition, air-conditioning and an entertainment system were added to the lounge. (The rebuilding process can be viewed in a photo album left our for quests.)

In late 2015 an extension was carried out to include a large covered alfresco kitchen and dining area with electric blinds to keep out unwanted dinner guests. A north facing, cosy sun room/conservatory was also added with partial glass roof and bi-fold doors opening out onto a new deck which itself flows out onto protected north facing lawn area in a magnificent landscaped garden setting. Comfortable leather lounges, a log fire and a large Smart Flat TV with soundbar and Bluetooth connectivity were added to this lovely room.

Plenty of places to sit, relax and enjoy the bird life and gardens. All ammenities that you need to self cater and enjoy the serenity and peace that this property brings. Stroll across the paddocks, wander along the riverbank, marvel at the bird life and enjoy the extensive gardens. We and our friends loved spending the evenings out by the fireplace nestled in the garden and were all very comfortable in the house. Morning coffees watching the cows, kangaroos and emus as the mist lifted was a delightful change to suburban life. Identity Check & Security Hold
Before check-in, guests complete a quick ID and card verification via our Guest App - similar to hotel check-in — to ensure safety and peace of mind for all. A $750 security hold (required by our insurer) is placed and automatically released after your stay once house rules are confirmed and no damage is noted.

We’re happy to consider early check-in and late check-out requests, though these options are subject to availability and not guaranteed. Our cleaners charge a fee $50 per hour for this service. For guaranteed early access, we recommend booking the night prior to arrival. This offers peace of mind and a smooth, stress-free start to your stay.

Like most areas in Australia, we need to be mindful of water use. The water for house use is sourced from a rainwater tank and for this reason, we thank you to be careful to have short showers of a suggested length of two minutes. This will ensure there is enough water for you and your guests during your stay and also for future guests.

Likewise, we must ensure our beautiful garden is water-wise. This means that in the cooler and kinder months, our plants thrive with great beauty. However, in Summer (with heatwaves and water restrictions) our garden is challenged by dry earth and sunny skies. Please be aware that although we do our best, like most gardens in our area of Australia, our garden is waiting for the cooler months to renew and thrive!

Please be mindful of the fire restrictions from December 1 - March 31 inclusive and be aware of any current fire bans in the area before lighting any fires outside or in the wood heater inside.

Our home is in the heart of the Australian bush. We are visited almost daily with bands of kangaroos, magpies, kookaburras, the fairy splendid wren and small forest birds like the silvereye. Unfortunately, we also have a few friendly bugs that while they nourish our wildlife, they can also be annoying to the typical visiting human being! While we try to do our best to keep these unwanted guests away from our home, they are persistent and you may come across one or two of the little critters. Having said that, aren't you here to enjoy our natural surrounds well away from the shiny lights of the city?

This home is a beautifully timbered house and has its own character and charm. Please be aware that this is a character home full of interesting and well crafted features. It is not a modern house from the city- we hope that you can truly breathe deeply and enjoy all this location has to offer!

Our properties are thoroughly cleaned and maintained to the highest standards. However, as we are located in Australia, occasional encounters with insects such as ants, flies, or mosquitoes may occur, particularly if food is left out or doors/windows are left open. This is a natural part of the environment and does not constitute grounds for refunds or negative reviews. We provide insect deterrents where necessary, and guests are encouraged to take reasonable precautions.

For stays of one month or longer, a complimentary mid-stay clean will be provided as a condition of the rental. The cost of this clean will be covered by the property owner. For stays extending beyond one month, a complimentary clean will be scheduled every fortnight.

This is a natural part of the environment and does not constitute grounds for refunds or negative reviews. We provide insect deterrents where necessary, and guests are encouraged to take reasonable precautions.
