Situated on 9.6 acres of lawns, forest, meadows, and trails, Creekbanks Cottage is only 10 minutes from Courtenay, yet offers guests privacy, peace, tranquility, and a chance to re-connect with nature. A salmon-bearing stream meanders through the property, and bird, animal, and plant life abound. Eagles, ravens, and blue herons regularly surveil the property from the heights of the ancient Douglas Fir tree that graces the vista from the cottage and the lawns. Your closest neighbours are horses; other regular visitors include free range chickens, ducks, geese, wild rabbits, deer, racoon, mink, and, of course, various types of salmon during their respective spawning seasons. The property has grapes and blackberries, as well as apple, pear, walnut, and hazelnut trees. Guests are welcome to pick anything that's in season.
Built in 1936, with a sunporch added in the 1970's, the cottage has been updated to offer comfort, character, and the charm of an earlier era of family farm living. The one-and-one-half story house has central heating, and (for those who enjoy the look-and-feel of old-fashioned radiant heat) a built-in gas fireplace in the living room and a free-standing gas fireplace in the kitchen/dining area. The main floor has nine-foot ceilings, a completely renovated bathroom and one bedroom with a queen bed. The sloping ceilings of the upper half-story offer charm and character, although headroom is reduced in places for anyone over six-foot-one-inches in height. There are two bedrooms upstairs, both with double beds, and one with an ensuite half-bathroom (toilet and sink). Light floods into the cottage from all directions, and every window offers an unobstructed private view of the property.
Your hosts, Ted and Hitu, live in a second house on the property located on the other side of the stream. The two houses are separated by forest and meadow; each has its own driveway.
Additional Amenities:
*The cottage is thoroughly and professionally cleaned between guests (please help us to keep the portion of this cost charged to guests as low as possible by cleaning up any of your own spills or messes).
*The cottage has a fully equipped kitchen with fridge, dishwasher, gas range, toaster, toaster oven, pots & pans, baking pans & sheets, dishes, cutlery, etc.
*We supply bed linens & towels, wireless high-speed internet, Shaw TV, Radio & CD player.
*Laundry facilities are available onsite. These are shared with our brother John who lives with his cat, Shadow, in a private suite of rooms located in the basement and accessed by a separate entrance.
*The Comox Valley with its distinct villages, towns, and settlements is surrounded by beaches, farms, parks, forests, lakes, rivers, and mountains. The valley offers a great range of things to do and explore: arts, culture, and heritage; shopping, dining, farm, and culinary tours; fishing, marine adventures, and wildlife tours; golf, hiking, cycling, and mountain biking. The Mount Washington Alpine Resort is nearby and open year-round. For more information visit The Comox Valley’s Tourism Vancouver Island website at: https://experiencecomoxvalley.ca/
Notes:
*Sewage from the cottage is treated in a Septic Tank system that is carefully maintained to ensure against contamination of ground water seeping into the salmon-bearing stream. Do not flush anything other than bodily waste and toilet paper. Everything else should go in the bin provided.
*Ted’s family has lived on this property for almost three-quarters of a century and restoring and enhancing the cottage and grounds is both a labour of love and a work-in-progress. Creekbanks is an old house with “strong bones” and a good heart. While her plumbing has been upgraded, she does require the assistance of a few pumps to boost her circulation. Please don’t be alarmed if you occasionally hear some soft pump-related burps and gurgles.
*Our brother John (resident in the basement) doesn't drive; however, you might see an occasional car using the driveway to pick him up or drop him off. On sunny days, John sometimes likes to sit and read in the shade of the spreading Maple tree beside the carport. Otherwise, apart from the area around our house on the other side of the creek, you have the property to yourself. Feel free to explore it in its entirety. During the warmer weather, the flow of the creek is usually gentle; younger children, however, should always be supervised when near the water.
*We hope you enjoy your stay with us. Please let us know if anything is missing or deficient, or if you have any suggestions for improvement. If you are interested in considering a longer duration stay in the future, ask us about our significant discounts for one, two, or three or more week stays.
- "We spent a week at the cottage with our rambunctious 4 year old grandson. He had a great time, feeding the horses next door, watching the chicken and roosters, and deer in the evening. Picking apples and blackberries and playing soccer in the beautiful yard. He checked out the stream for fish. The home was well equipped and very comfortable! Courtney town only seven minute drive away and great beaches to visit. Hosts are wonderful and accommodating. A great stay!"

Here to relax? We have you covered with no vehicle traffic you can watch the kids play outside without having to worry. Have fun playing board games, make memories and soak up the magic of the Alpine Village in style this winter at the Birdhouse.
The Dicky bird is a loft unit with a queen bed upstairs and a pull out sofa bed downstairs, it is suitable for one small family with children or two adults. We do not recommend more than two adults in the unit for a comfortable stay. Due to the loft setup it is not recommended for younger children under the age of 5. The Dicky Bird is a pet free accommodation; no exceptions.
We are a ski out chalet and at the end of the day you will have to take your skis off to walk up the hill- the magic at the top is worth it!
During the winter months the village is walk in only. From the parking lot it is about a 7-8 minute walk to the Dicky Bird. We provide one complimentary shuttle in to deliver bags and gear during ski season. The Dicky Bird is allowed one parking space in the village parking lot during ski season.
During the summer/fall months you can drive right up to the Dicky Bird. There is street parking beside the building or you can park in Dougan's parking lot.
Parking during the winter months: A week prior to your trip you will be asked to provide your license plate number along with a reachable phone number while on the mountain. This is required for vehicle parking registration PRIOR to your arrival. Vehicles not registered or parking information provided at the time of arrival may risk the vehicle being towed. The Dicky Bird has been assigned parking for one vehicle only. Additional parking passes are not available at this time.
Looking for a larger place? Check out the Winter Wren or combine the Dicky Bird and the Wren for the whole family to enjoy!
- "It was everything we were hoping for. Located in the middle of the village, and with all the amenities. It's a great location and is one unit in a quadplex chalet. Definitely would recommend it." - "Excellent unit. clean, practical, quiet, well supplied" - "This little suite is very cute and welcoming, perfect for the two of us. It was very clean and had a well stocked kitchen for the size. The only thing I missed were wine glasses and a larger coffeemaker. The bed and pillows were nice and comfortable and the bathroom a great size. Loved the little vintage decor touches. Would stay here again."

It was so much bigger than I was expecting and everything we needed was provided (and more!). The place was private and quiet, immaculately clean and the beds were insanely comfy. My kids slept like rocks every night! I'd highly recommended this stay to anybody travelling to the area. Especially anybody looking for a family friendly option! "

The carriage house was built in 2021 and sits on the southeast corner of my property, located on a quiet road that is surrounded by trails and nature. The property is gated with its own driveway.
Accommodations has two queen beds. There is a well equipped kitchen with microwave, stove and fridge/freezer. The bathroom has a sink, shower over bath and toilet. Towels and bed linen provided.

Enjoy a private and peaceful trip away in Royston, Comox Valley. The Railway trails provide easy access to the village of Cumberland where you find the vast mountain biking trail network. In the opposite direction you are a 10min walk to the ocean and 10min drive from downtown Courtenay.
- "Three adults used this as a base from which to enjoy nearby trails and parks, explore Courtenay and Comox (about 10-15 minutes' drive), and do a little remote work. The weather was fairly cold while we were there, but we pretty easily figured out the thermostat and were comfortable. The kitchen was absolutely great for us. It was clean, with a large workspace and a roomy refrigerator and freezer compartment. There was room for three to cook comfortably, and the washer and dryer were easy to use and very much appreciated.Using the dining table as a workspace, two of us were able to use our laptops for work at the same time, and the wi-fi was ample. One small criticism is that it would be nice to have more light immediately over the table, but the light at the top of the stairs was nice and bright and compensated well. Also, the lighting in the bedrooms was superior to many rentals we have used--great for those of us who read in bed!The location was fantastic--a short drive to Courtenay or Comox (or Cumberland, I believe, although we didn't go there this trip). Even better, the rental was just steps away from the rail trail and the historic trestle. Our host was almost immediately responsive to the few small questions we had, and although we didn't meet, her communications were warm and friendly. She cautioned us about the snow and had spread a mix to ensure that it was clear at the entryway. We would certainly like to stay again the next time we're in the area."

Our bright, guest suite is a cosy retreat with a comfortable homey feel for your stay. We’re right at the bottom of Mt Washington in a great rural location for nature and adventures. Located in a quiet farm neighbourhood by the Tsolum River, the One Spot Trail bike route and Vancouver Island Hiking Trail goes right by our door.
The space
We are at the bottom of Mt Washington, close to Tsolum Spirit Park. We’re 20 minutes from ‘everything’ - downtown Courtenay, Cumberland, and Comox. As well as from the ski hill and Miracle Beach. There is so much to explore in our neighbourhood and area.
The suite is small, but is comfortable and large enough to have kids playing and a dinner party. It has a full kitchen, deep bathtub (no shower), laundry, a queen bed with a pull out sofa and another comfy couch. It was our home for 6 years before moving to the other side of the house. We love this space and hope you will too. Please ask if you’re looking for another arrangement of guests.
Of course, we live in the other part of the house and there is some noise transfer. Our main living area is on the other side of the house, so we don’t hear too much during the day. Our bedroom is above the suite and we go to bed quite early. While possible, it is not ideal for more than 3 adults. Dinner noises and quiet conversations are welcome and expected, but be respectful of noise in the evening after 7:30pm.
Guest access
To access the suite, text us and we’ll come out to give you the keys or make other arrangements so you can let yourself in. The suite is fully self contained with a separate entrance from the main house. The entranceway is a large space that is for your use. It is also a shared space, as our tool room is off this room. The door to the suite is separate and has its own key. We will give a welcome knock to the front door so as to let you know we are coming in.
The driveway often has lots of cars in it. We usually park at an angle along the left side by the garden so everyone can get in and out. Pull up close to your suite for your parking and you can back right out past everyone else, or park angled on the garden side. We’re used to a bit of chaos around parking, so just try not to block anyone else out. Our truck is often pulled right up if it’s not in frequent use. If it is, pull up enough to let everyone out again. We're easy going and usually home. Knock on our door if you need anything.
Other things to note
During your stay, you have your own private entrance with an area in front of the suite that is for you during your stay. You have use of the shared backyard and play structure. Our son will likely want to say hi and invite your kids to play. The kids are very welcome to run around as they like. We are a very open family and happy to have you on our property. We will likely be around in the garden, mowing the lawn or shovelling snow. We often work from home and are available for questions or to bring you anything you might be missing.
Our son will likely want to play with your kids. We are very welcoming and hope you enjoy your stay.

This lovely tiny home is situated on a upick blueberry farm. It's ideal for a summer getaway, a cozy spot after a snow day on Mt.Washington or a base for exploring the trails and mountains in the area. The tiny provides the feeling of a cabin but with modern touches. You can enjoy your coffee on a private cedar deck looking out to the forest. Located in the country 5 minutes from the ocean, 15 minutes from downtown Courtenay, 20 minutes from Mt. Washington and 5 minutes from Seal Bay Park.
The space
The tiny home on wheels has a modern, country feel with an incredibly comfortable bed and a full kitchen. We use 100% cotton or bamboo bedding and organic Salt Spring Island soaps. We clean with eco friendly products to ensure your stay is non-toxic :)
The stairs to the loft are a little 'quirky' as they get smaller and change direction mid way up. The bottom stair also slides out so that it can be used as a table. The loft is not full height but is a good height for sitting up in bed. Our tiny home is not suited to guests with back or mobility issues due to the low loft and small bathroom.
You will be staying on a working farm so you will hear us out and about during the day. The kids laugh and cry, shout and play. The roosters crow, the hens cluck. Neighbours mow their lawns and run their chainsaws. These are the sounds of our rural neighbourhood.
At night, the stars are amazing and you can sometimes faintly hear the sea lions barking.
Guest access
You will need a car to get to our farm and to explore this area. We live on a loop road and our neighbours often walk around the loop. Parking is right next to the tiny home and can fit two cars if needed.
Other things to note
Our water is completely safe to drink but does smell like sulfur. The good news is that it's really good for your skin. The bad news is that it is noticeable when showering and using our water. We have a Brita water filter so that your drinking water does not taste of sulfur.
The loft is not full height.
There is no indoor table in the tiny home - just two side tables that pull up to the couch. There is a table and chairs on the deck for use on the nicer days.
Because of the size of the tiny home we prefer to host only one dog at a time. Unfortunately, we can't host your cats due to allergies.
Tiny homes have their quirks so our place is best suited to travelers that enjoy those different experiences. We look forward to hosting you!
