Enjoy a memorable visit when you stay in this historic and unique beachfront cottage. Complete with a 10' barrel sauna with 6' fish eye view of the lake! This charming and historic former float home is over a century old! Like some others around the bay, it was brought up on land around 1950, and expanded upon in the years after.
The 1920 cottage’s unique character and warm happy vibes immediately come across upon arrival. It’s love at first sight for each lucky guest who holidays here.
Inside the house, you’ll find patina’d old original fir floors that slope and waver underfoot.
On the main level are the kitchen, dining, and living rooms, as well as the bathroom and three sleeping areas. The upper level holds bedroom #4.
Bedroom One is off to the side of the kitchen. It has a soft and feminine feel to it. In close view of the queen size bed(king non-allergenic duvet) is our newest acquisition, a lovely and romantic fireplace that turns on with the flick of a switch. There is a 10’ iPhone charger within easy reach of the bed, just incase you forgot yours at home! Decor palette is white, grey, pink, blond.
Bedroom Two is farther back in the house, with high ceilings and more dresser space for the guest who doesn’t pack light. The colour scheme falls to whites and blues, again with that old original wooden floor spread out beneath the bedside rugs. Warm tone bedside lamps offer a gentle alternative in the evening when winding down from a day out on the water, in the queen size memory foam bed.
Bedroom Nook
Even though this adorable little space holds only the basics, it is anything but! Lay back in bed and watch the early morning lake sit as still as glass. This L-shaped semi private area holds a twin size bed, lamps, antique bureau, comfortable chair, and bedside rug. All this is expertly fit just off the dining area, closed off behind a bamboo screen. This is area also holds two bookcases loaded with a curated selection of novels, fascinating local history, children’s books, and boardgames(both family and adult orientated), and quality binoculars to take in the sights outdoors.
Bedroom Four, our newest addition, is located in a section of converted attic space, with its own entrance off the front deck. A staircase leads you up off the main deck to an outdoor space of your very own! This small yet private deck holds a bistro set perfectly set to capture the extended view from this aerial perch. Inside, you will find two double beds, a vintage chair and handmade table by the window. The room is lit by the sun capturing skylight, two bedside lights, and an extraordinary antique handmade swag lamp over the larger dresser. The decor colour palette is white, gold, green, and sisal.
*Part of this room sits above Bedroom One, so be aware there can be some sound transfer between the two rooms, especially during quieter moments.
The dock has secure moorage if you care to bring a boat along to explore some of the 110kms of shoreline this lake has to offer. If you’re looking for adventures that are closer to base, take a kayak or SUP off the rack for a spin around the bay or beyond.
*There are different sizes of life jackets available but it is always advisable to bring one from home that is a secure fit!
The Bathroom holds a small sink/vanity, toilet, and an old vintage tub/shower combo.
We include shampoo/conditioner, face and body wash, hand soap. Also provided for your use are a hairdryer, flat iron, and curling wand. There are oft-forgotten toiletries in a basket such as: toothpaste, body lotion, sunburn aloe creams, etc. There are cleaning supplies in the vanity under the sink if your stay is long and you want to freshen things up.
The Kitchen currently holds a full sized fridge, four burner cooktop, double sink, and XL toaster oven. All dish-ware, glassware, cookware, cooking implements, utensils, and serving ware are provided. There is a comprehensive spice/seasoning rack and basic condiments in the fridge. There is no dishwasher, microwave, or full-size oven.
Although there is almost all day sun here, sunsets are where the real magic happens, they can be spectacular!
- "Honeymoon Bay Cottage was everything we could ask for for a summer vacation - plenty of beds for extra family, water toys, and even a dock to jump into the water! We will 100% come back here." - "Hreat stay!" - "This character house was all it said it would be, and more. I loved the location, the beach, the whole setup. Wish I owned it, it was so great. We'll be back." - "AMAZING family get ways " - "We had the best time at this adorable, rustic cabin with our family (5 adults, baby, dog). We loved being right on the water, the beautiful porch, best views of the lake, jumping off the dock to cool off and using the kayaks. The kitchen was well stocked, we BBQd every night. The sauna was a lovely surprise as I didn’t even realize they had one! Some small things could be improved on…the outdoor area needs some cleaning attention (lots of cobwebs, beach area cleanup etc). And the dock could really use a more accessible ladder (the current one is in an awkward spot full of reeds). But we still spent lots of time in the water!Overall, it’s a great spot!! We would definitely come back & wish we could have stayed longer! "

Private riverfront, great for fishing, swimming & enjoying the wild life. No thru road. Great hiking. Minutes to Lake Cowichan, w/ pubs, cafes, restaurants, beaches & riverside tubing!
- "We were looking for a property to host our larger group of two mature families, and this property more than exceeded...actually let me rephrase that...it just blew away our expectations! The pictures really don't do it justice. The house is warm and inviting from the moment you enter, with a large kitchen, fully equipped to prepare and cook meals for a large group. But the highlight of the property (for us) is what's going on in the massive "back yard;" the expansive deck, the ponds, the "gamesroom" building, the gazebo (complete with a raised firepit, picnic table, and "bar" overlooking the river), the hammock, wonderfully crafted adirondack chairs everywhere you'd want to sit, and that (peaceful, tranquil) river access!!! Just WOW. Thank you so much Billy, for sharing your piece of paradise with us!"

There's oil, salt, pepper and various herbs and spices in the cabinets as well. I would have liked to have a table to eat at (especially with kids!) but we made do. - "We really enjoyed our stay at this VRBO. It was brand new looking and the beds and linens were extra comfy. I’ve also never seen a kitchen for a rental that stocked, it was great! I originally booked it based on the pin location. It wasn’t accurate as it was on the other side of the lake but it actually turned out to be better for us anyways. It has access to a private dock for the houses there and there’s also a rental place there that you can rent boats, jet skis, kayaks and paddle boards which is what we ended up doing and it was a highlight for us! Would definitely come back and recommend staying here. "

Important Information for Our Guests
Your Comfort and Safety Matter to Us – Please Read Carefully
Bear Safety:
We’re located in beautiful bear country, and sightings of bears are common. To protect both your vehicle and our local wildlife, we kindly ask that you leave no food or beverages inside your vehicle. Bears are naturally curious creatures, and while these encounters are remarkable, we cannot assume liability for any damage caused by bears attempting to access vehicles. Your care and attention to this matter greatly support both your safety and wildlife preservation.
Occupancy Details
We believe 4 people can fit comfortably here. You are welcome to bring up to 6 guests. It would make for a tight squeeze, but it’s manageable if your group is looking to save money. We want you to feel informed so you can make the best decision for your stay.
Ant Notice (Updated April 3rd, 2025):
With warmer weather, ants are becoming active. We are proactively addressing this with professional exterminators and have an ongoing year-round prevention plan. Your comfort and peace of mind are paramount; traps have been discreetly placed in the suite. While they are non-toxic and considered safe for all, we will ensure they are placed out of reach if young children or pets are present. If you do spot any ants during your stay, please inform us immediately so we can promptly address it. Your feedback helps us maintain the highest standards for your stay.
Parking Information:
Each booking includes one designated parking space. If you anticipate needing additional parking, please contact us beforehand to check availability, as our space is limited.
Door Security:
Please firmly close both the suite door and front door to ensure they latch securely. This practice helps maintain your security and the comfort of all our guests.
Basement Temperature:
Please be aware that the basement suite may feel cooler, as the thermostat is located upstairs. The furnace operates continuously and may produce a gentle humming sound. If you find the temperature uncomfortable, please text us, and we will happily adjust it to enhance your comfort.
Hot Tub Guidelines:
- Before Use: Kindly shower before entering the hot tub to maintain cleanliness and protect its filtration system. For safety, the hot tub is available exclusively to guests aged 18 and older. We routinely balance the hot tub chemicals daily, but if you'd prefer a complete water exchange and clean, please notify us at least 24 hours in advance.
- How to Use: To unlock, simply hold the lock symbol until it activates, then press the bubble button to start. The temperature is preset for optimal comfort, and we ask that you do not adjust the heating settings.
Sauna Usage:
Detailed sauna instructions can be found inside the sauna beneath the control panel, with additional guidelines provided in your welcome packet. For your safety and enjoyment, sauna access is limited to guests 18 and older. If you have any questions or require assistance, we’re here to help!
Weights and Outdoor Gym:
Our outdoor gym facilities are available for your enjoyment. Please note, for your safety and liability purposes, guests must be 18 years or older and sign a liability waiver before using the weights. We appreciate your cooperation and understanding.
In Case of Malfunction:
If the hot tub starts beeping or experiences any interruptions, we invite you to contact us immediately via text. We pride ourselves on maintaining all amenities in optimal condition and perform regular checks to ensure everything is functioning properly. However, please understand that occasional repairs or maintenance may be necessary. While we strive to provide all amenities as advertised, unforeseen circumstances may arise. Welcome to Lake Life Living!
Location, Location, Location
This was the reason I fell in LOVE with this home.
When you step inside the gate you’ll feel like you’re FAR away in a private paradise, but you have everything right at your finger tips plus PRIME waterfront.
I welcome you to come Enjoy & Experience Lake Life Living with your Family & Friends.
Enjoy the 40’ dock, the lake, my comfortable, relaxed home and everything Lake Cowichan has to offer. Long stays are ideal.
PLEASE read all:
The space
My home is centrally and conveniently located downtown Lake Cowichan while still maintaining the tranquility of waterfront living.
The main level is open concept.
When you walk in the front door you walk into the Kitchen and Living room, with a view of the water.
The master bedroom, with king bed, has a 3 piece ensuite with jetted tub and is conveniently located right off the living room. The living room comfortably seats 8 and has a pull out bed.
The French doors off the living room lead out to the back deck; where you'll find a BBQ and then out to the back yard which leads down to the 40 foot dock.
The upper floor of the house has 2 large sized bedrooms with queen beds and a 5 piece bathroom plus a secondary family space with a pull out bed.
The backyard is private and fully fenced. The covered deck right off the living room looks down to the water, a grand stair case leads you to a huge 20x20 cement pad; perfect for hanging out on;
Plus there is a fire pit beside the cement pad. From there a gangway leads to the 40 foot dock.
On the dock there is a 10x10 gazebo with a table and chairs plus a picnic table; where you can enjoy your lazy days of Summer!
The Cowichan River also has exceptional fishing!
You can fish right from the dock.
(*always check what the current fishing regulations are)
There is lots of room to moor your boat up to 25' or seadoos.
The largest boat that can come through the weir is 25 feet. The weir is just 1 minute away and located right next to the boat launch on North Shore road.
Right outside the front gate of the house, on the main road, you’ll find:
Ed's coffee shop, Jakes at the Lakes Restaurant is just a few doors down; great food and patio looking out at the lake. That is also where the ‘Tube Shack’ is; to rent tubes and go tubing down the river.
Mountain Man Ice cream shop is just a couple doors down, a Pizza place, J&V’s is just a bit further down; has great pizza, too. Plus A&W and Subway are just down the street too. You can also find the start of the Trans Canada Trail there as well. Plus a Pharmacy and you will pass the grocery store, liquor store, Cold Beer & Wine and Home Hardware when you come in…
The hockey arena is a 3 minute drive up the road.
LakeTown Ranch is just a short drive away or it's easy walking distance to the shuttle.
Only 15 minutes to Duncan.
1 hour to Victoria or Nanaimo.
Come Experience the feel of LAKE LIFE LIVING!
Here's to Happy Lake Life Living!
* My home sleeps 6 adults comfortably!
(plus 2 more)
I base my nightly occupancy
(in ‘high’ season July & August)
on 3 couples sharing;
That’s about $90 per person a night.
And lower in ‘off’ season.
* You will find I do not do ‘check ins’ on Saturday, Sundays & Wednesdays;
My calendar only allows you to ‘check in’ Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday.
And I do a 3 night minimum.
Any questions PLEASE feel free to message me and ask!
Shannon :)
Guest access
I will send directions and the door code prior to your arrival for easy access into the house. You have access to the whole house, yard and dock.
The only SHARED access is the GATE on the driveway that leads onto the property. The guests of my other Airbnb; The Sweet Suite, only have access through the gate to their door; they have no access to the main house, yard or dock.
Other things to note
I absolutely LOVE this spot on the Lake because it’s so CALM and very sheltered as it’s behind the weir.
The weir was built in the 1950’s to provide industrial water storage for the Pulp & Paper Mill in Crofton.
The River technically starts at the foot bridge which is further down from my house; where the Duck Pond is (a local park). The weir operates 24/7 so you can always have access into the rest of the 30 km of Lake.
Plus the weir is wide open from October to March AND the Boat Launch is right next to the weir located on North Shore Road.
The weir is 28 feet in length. A 25’ boat fits just fine.
My dock has plenty of space for your boat and/or seadoo.
PLEASE click on each individual picture to get more descriptions too!
I have a fire pit which is lovely to sit around at night; I do not provide fire wood but there is fire wood available to buy just up the road.
