- "Cabin was perfect! Clean, big enough to hold our family. It was well stocked. They pretty much had everything we needed in the kitchen. It was a wonderful place to stay and everyone had a great time. Highly recommend!" - "This cabin has so much space! It's fully stocked and beautifully decorated! The views are breathtaking, the air is fresh and just what we needed! We rented the wedding site as well for our small mountain wedding and it was absolutely perfect! Parking is limited but we shuttled guests up the driveway from the pull out at the bottom and everything went great! We hope to come back for vacations in the future!"

This cabin is the real-deal mountain experience—no frills, just fresh air, towering trees, private 45 acres, and a rich history that started with zero humans (yep, it was just the bears and birds for a while). Once a wild, untamed retreat, it’s now the ultimate getaway for families, reunions, weddings, and just about any excuse to celebrate. With a backstory worthy of a campfire tale, this place doesn’t just host memories—it helps make them legendary.
Welcome to Storm Peak Lodge –This lodge spreads its cozy charm across three spacious floors, each with its own personality—and plenty of room to snooze, sprawl, and sneak off for some peace and quiet. Up on the top floor, you’ll find the crown jewel: the main master suite, complete with a private bathroom, a patio perfect for your morning coffee (or evening wine), and views that might just convince you to move in permanently. Two more bedrooms share a classic Jack and Jill bathroom—perfect for kids, cousins, or anyone who enjoys the thrill of a shared sink. The main floor is the heart of the home, with the kitchen, main living area, and another set of two bedrooms connected by—you guessed it—another Jack and Jill bathroom. It’s ideal for families who love staying close... but not too close. And then there’s the basement: part hangout zone, part bunkhouse, part indoor adventure. It features a pool table for some friendly competition, a second master suite for VIP guests (or very tired parents), and a super-sized room that can sleep seven. Yes, seven. It’s practically its own sleepover kingdom.
The lodge features four comfy bedrooms plus a bunk room in the basement that’s perfect for kids or anyone young at heart. Need even more snooze space? The loft and basement have queen pull-out beds—ideal for extra guests or surprise tagalongs. Curl up in the cozy living room, stream your favorite series with WiFi (yes, even here!), or do a little laundry while pretending you're roughing it.
Sitting on a jaw-dropping 45-acre lot that cozies up to the San Juan National Forest in Wildcat Canyon, this place is adventure-ready year-round. It doubles as the perfect spot to slow down, unwind and breathe in that fresh mountain air that smells faintly of pine and freedom. In summer and fall, it moonlights as a working ranch with mules and horses hanging out just behind the lodge, along with wranglers and guides living their best ranch life. The property is a scenic playground with rolling hills, shady woods, creek and river frontage, and meandering trails that practically beg for boots and bikes.
Looking for something to do? From hunting to hiking, skiing to sledding, fishing to family reunions, this place does it all. Hosting a wedding or big event? You're in luck—we can sleep 30+ in the main lodge alone, and over 50 guests when both lodges are rented. Just drop us a line to chat about our event accommodations and fees—we promise we’re nice.
And let’s not forget: Storm Peak Lodge is proudly off-grid and powered by solar. That means guilt-free hot showers and eco-conscious vibes all around. Being off-grid and tucked away in a secluded corner of the canyon, our lodge offers guests a front-row seat to nature in all her unfiltered glory. You’ll trade city lights for starlit skies, and traffic noise for birdsong, rustling leaves, and the occasional curious critter.
This is the real deal—an unplugged, boots-on-the-ground experience for folks who aren’t afraid of a little dirt, a few hoofprints, or maybe sharing their morning coffee with a mule in the distance. It’s not luxury in the traditional sense—it’s luxury for the soul.
If you’re the kind of person who greets mud with a grin and sees pine needles as confetti from the forest, then welcome. Mother Nature’s been expecting you.
When you're ready to explore, Telluride and Mountain Village are just 30 miles north—perfect for skiing, golfing, shopping, or catching a ride on the free gondola (yes, it’s really free!). Head 20 miles south to Dolores for lake days at McPhee Reservoir, or venture a bit further to Cortez for Mesa Verde, the Four Corners Monument, and some of the best biking this side of the Rockies. Want to make a day of it? Take a scenic drive to Durango (70 miles) for ziplining, museums, and the iconic Narrow Gauge Railroad.
Bottom line: Whether you're here to relax, celebrate, have a legendary game of hide-and-seek in the woods, or go full-on mountain explorer, Storm Peak Lodge is ready to welcome you with open arms, fresh air, and maybe a friendly mule or two.
Any bookings from October - March must have a 4x4 or off road vehicle to access the property. We love love and hosting weddings as well as other private events! Please inquire for additional fees and costs that come with those types of bookings.
**** New building has been added to the front of the property for Outfitter Lease in the fall, it is still under construction and pictures will be updated upon completion. Please inquire for reference images ****
- "If you're looking for a mountain stay that's away from the city and off the grid with no cell service, this is the spot for you! The property is absolutely gorgeous and isolated. Even with it being right next to a highway, we weren't bothered by any passing vehicles. The property also borders national park land, so you can basically go wherever you want! Mark made the check-in process painless and easy. He took the time to show us where everything was and also how to use the backup generator just in case of emergency since the house is run completely on solar energy. The driveway and parking area were all cleared out and we had zero issues with access to the property even with several feet of snow on the ground. Mark made sure there was plenty of firewood for the whole weekend and he even called a locksmith for me when I ended up locking my keys in my truck. 1000/10 would recommend this property and would absolutely stay here again. We are already talking about coming back sometime during the summer so we can explore more of the property when there's not a lot of snow on the ground."

We could hear the elk bugling at night and in the am a little bit. The view of Lone Cone is stunning and my favorite tree is the Aspen so I was literally in heaven here. We had everything we needed and a few little extras were also provided by the host, what a treat! A few teenage kitties running around made my dog go crazy but they are very friendly. - "This was a great location for us to visit Telluride and Mesa Verde." - "Beautiful area! On the river in mountains yet close enough to Dolores, Cortez, Durango and Telluride. The Dolores Market is a small grocery store in town but has everything you will need. Coming from South Texas we love good Mexican food and it is hard to find when traveling but MITequila in Dolores was very good. Taking the drive to visit and shop Telluride, Ouray then Silverton was amazing. The house has all amenities plus more than we expected. Very well equipped. Clean and comfortable beds. Plenty of linens. We did travel with our beagles and there is a dog sitter we found in Dolores on Rover.com named Ashley for the time we couldn’t have them come to our activities. She was great!! Thank you for sharing your beautiful home with us."

- "My parents, husband and I all enjoyed our stay in this cute cabin. We usually stay about 20 min up the mountain, but we needed an alternative as our usual space was not available. My dad mentioned several times how he liked this property more than where we have stayed for the last 30+ years! We loved the porch, having two bedrooms and bathrooms and being able to walk just a little bit to the river. Two drawbacks - the road noise and the mosquitos! We definitely didn’t let that hinder our stay, though."

Great base to return to after a day of seeing some amazing sites. Cozy, well supplied, and comfortable. " - "We absolutely loved staying here! We had a great amount of space and access to so many amenities. The host was super and we loved our privacy. The location was good for us, too!" - "We liked that there was no pet limit. My in-laws each brought their dogs so we had four. It was an easy commute to both Durango and Telluride for fun activities. My teenagers loved the loft. I was pleasantly surprised to discover the 3rd for bedroom cooled off every night. In fact, it was practically cold every morning! It was a lovely & cozy cottage for us. However, the "sofa bed" is actually a futon that isn't big enough for anyone over 5'."

Welcome to Storm Peak Lodge – your ticket to mountain mischief and memories that smell like campfires and sound like laughter echoing through the trees. A large slice of high-country heaven nestled in the northern space of Dolores. This OFF GRID 5-bedroom retreat offers all the peace and quiet your soul’s been craving—with just enough space to bring the whole crew along. Whether you're traveling with family, friends, or your entire hiking club, there's room to stretch out, unwind, and feel right at home.
We love love and hosting weddings as well as other private events! Please inquire for additional fees and costs that come with those types of bookings.
Any bookings from October - March must have a 4x4 or off road vehicle to access the property and be prepared for spectacular winter experience.
**** New building has been added to the front of the property for Outfitter Lease in the fall, it is still under construction and pictures will be updated upon completion. Please inquire for reference images ****

Almost off-grid studio guest cottage overlooking a beautiful valley! Our rural property is located within the San Juan National Forest, about a 15 minute drive from the town of Dolores. Surrounded by trees, nature, and the Dolores River, this valley will ensure plenty of relaxation and rejuvenation. Living in the National Forest, there is *no cell phone reception* in this valley. However, our disconnected abode is the ideal retreat for a digital detox, allowing guests to unwind and unplug!
The space
Our studio guest cottage offers it’s own full bathroom with tub/shower, kitchenette with electric water kettle, mini fridge, and toaster oven, and a private patio facing the river and valley. Central heating is available, and on extra chilly nights, the wood-burning fireplace will keep you nice and toasty. There are two private entrances to the studio, one from the driveway, and one along the staircase which leads to the main house.
Our property is low-EMF, with no WiFi or wireless devices, allowing guests to truly recharge in nature, free from technological interference. You may sleep better than you have in years! We do have cabled internet via Ethernet, which you may plug into from the studio, but be advised our country satellite connection takes it’s time. Fine for basic emails and checking messages, not great for Zooms or downloads. (Adapters are available for iPhones and iPads.)
We also strive for a fragrance-free & chemical-free abode. All linens are washed with non-scented, biodegradable detergent (ECOS brand). All bathroom products and cleaning products are eco-friendly and free from harsh chemicals. We kindly request that guests abstain from artificial fragrances (perfumes, colognes, soaps, etc.), to preserve the space for our chemically-sensitive guests.
*A note about water! Being nearly off-grid, our water is imported into a cistern. Please keep water conservation in mind as you spend time here on the mountain.*
Additional property notes:
-Our driveway is gravel and uphill, and we back up to exit. 4WD is recommended, though standard cars can manage with steady momentum.
Guest access
Our property is located directly off Colorado Highway 145, between mile markers 26 and 27. We strongly advise mapping your route from town, since this valley has no reception. Heading 15 minutes north from the town of Dolores, our neighborhood entrance will be towards your left. If coming from Telluride, we are about 20 minutes south of Rico (entrance to the right).
After turning off the 145, follow the gravel road directly left. Our driveway will be the first entrance to your right, marked by a 26085 sign. Come on up the hill, and park anywhere in front of/to the right of the garage (please leave room for another car).
You may access the studio guest cottage from the driveway level, first door on the far left of the garage, or walk up the red-stone staircase path and enter through the guest cottage landing.
Other things to note
The studio guest cottage will be your private domain for the duration of your stay, but if you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact us! Messages are welcome, but due to our limited internet, feel free to also come and pester us in the main house, above the guest quarters. My husband Jonathan and I are usually around.
We have house-cats that live with us in the main house, who occasionally stroll our outside patio and staircase. While they don't stray too far from home, please be mindful with your vehicles, and with any dogs you may be traveling with.
