Sometimes in the Ozarks, I think we are cursed by not having lots of industries, business, cities, and people but when I sit on my porch, or around the campfire, listening to the various birds, frogs, cows, and coyotes, I think we are blessed not to have lots of industries, business, cities, and people.
If you are looking for a place to get away, relax, and enjoy a natural setting, this is a good place for that. We are located just one mile from the St. Francis river, Silver Mines Recreation Area, and Mark Twain National Forrest. We are close to places to hike, kayak, fish, and swim. There is an amazing antique store nearby too. There are restaurants in Fredericktown (7 miles away) and Ironton/Arcadia (16 miles). I am also learning about some places to mountain bike in the area.
I would like to tell you that we have lots of fine and luxurious amenities, but we don't, this is a very basic little place. It has a small bathroom with shower, a tiny furnished kitchen, that includes a dorm style fridge, toaster, coffee pot with coffee and tea provided. Toaster, microwave, two burner hot plate, with pans and associated cooking tools. There are dishes and a few clean up supplies. there is also a charcoal grill, bbq tools (charcoal provided), electric heat, a/c, and a rancher style wood burning stove, if you want to make it extra cozy. There is a queen bed in the loft that is accessible through a very steep staircase, and a pull out futon that converts to a full size bed with a memory foam mattress for sleeping on the main level.
There is a campfire ring in the side yard, FIREWOOD INCLUDED! I supply some metal sticks for roasting wieners and marshmallows. These items along with some yard games, and charcoal are located in a small shed near the parking area. I supply some firewood, a fairly generous amount. There are also bundles of wood to be purchased at Silvermines Park/Recreation Area that is one mile from our property.
There is a fenced in yard, and a pet door. Your dog is welcome here. One of my friends brings her cat Cali, who really loves it here, and would stay on if she could.
Okay to let the kids tent camp in the yard. If you want to stay up all night, play loud music, and howl at the moon, there will be no one to complain, but don't be surprised if a coyote answers your call.
This is a micro house, if you are especially tall, claustrophobic, or just don't like small spaces, this may not be your preferred place. I like to think of it as easy camping, you don't have to deal with the tent, or bringing a lot of gear.

- "Stayed three nights with a friend. While it's a small cabin for two 70's + men, it has everything needed except the food you choose to cook. The inside is very clean and well appointed. We were really impressed with how everything was so well organized and accessible. Think you need something, just look around and you'll find it! There was even a small ice maker that came in handy for making cooling drinks after hiking. Coffee and tea was also available. As for sleeping, I took the fold out futon for sleeping and it was very comfortable! My buddy slept upstairs in the queen bed and said it was also very comfortable. The stairs up are pretty steep, but the sturdy hand rail and fixed hand holds made it easy to go up and down. It was hot during our stay but the AC and supplemental cooling upstairs kept the entire cabin cool. With the heat, we didn't use the firepit but it was ready to go with plenty of firewood! There is a working farm adjacent to the property but it didn't affect our enjoyment of the cabin. Finally, the location is close to excellent hiking in the Silver Mines recreation area and other nearby trails. The Castor River shut in's were exceptional; a short drive east of Fredericktown and an easy, short hike from the parking lot. We were told these shut in's get crowded on weekends but they are very much worth seeing - great swimming too!. Overall, a really nice get away in a scenic area!"

- "This is a beautiful, relaxing home with everything You will need to recharge yourself and enjoy the beauty of the surroundings house. Owners were very accommodating. Pool and hot tub were fabulous and beds. Very comfortable.. I have one caution for renters .pay attention to every rule in the renters manual and take them all seriously!!! I was charged a significant fee upon leaving as I moved two chairs to two different rooms to accommodate our needs and moved two beds in one room to a different wall in the other room :( owner has every right to the rules. I am not complaining about that. I read all the rules when I got there and all rules before discharge, but did not notice the furniture rule upon discharge. I certainly would’ve spent the five minutes moving those pieces of furniture to avoid the $250 charge !!!!so be aware !!pay attention to the rules , other than that, it’s a wonderful place to stay and I would highly recommend"

This is a unique stone house that was owed by a famed civil war bushwhacker. While the house was recently restored it still beams with old time charm. The home sleeps 12 people comfortably and has two full kitchens and two full baths. It is nestled in the middle of a 300 acre working cattle farm just minutes from restaurants, wineries, and activities.
Built in 1832, the house was the childhood home of Sam Hildebrand, who was an infamous civil war guerrilla fighter. Come walk the same fields and sleep in the same place as one of Southeast Missouri’s biggest outlaws.

This farm is unique because is located close to everything but very private. You can enjoy the sounds of nature, hear the rooster crow, listen to the frogs and crickets, and look up at the stars while having a great conversation with your loved ones. Sitting around a fire is also a plus while roasting marshmallows! You can eat fresh eggs for breakfast from the chickens you can see from the kitchen window. The lodge is spacious with many options for sleeping, dining & entertainment. Awesome kitchen! So many FULL bathrooms! Pool was clean and well taken care of. The kids had a blast at the beach & dock. Beautiful lake for fishing, hiking & kayaking! The store is right across the street from the lodge and was so convenient. Basics items available. Anytime we needed anything (extra towels, soap, etc) we were able to ask for it at the store. The few things that we did not love were: The bathhouse @ the pool. It was in pretty bad shape & unusable. The pool table is in need of some major TLC. The large commercial stove was unplugged when we arrived, and once we plugged it in, we found out why. The oven part did not turn off without unplugging it. **the three things listed above we DID NOT bring to their attention. I imagine if we had done so, they may have addressed. Note: two bedrooms, and the additional sleeping areas are upstairs only accessible by two VERY narrow spiral staircases. There was a storm while we were there & ALL of Potosi lost power for quite a while! With the generators, free water, ice and quick work from the owners to reroute our fridge to the generator, we felt like the luckiest people in Potosi! Overall, we loved our getaway at the lodge and were impressed by the responsiveness of the owners. Thank you!"
