Hello we are Justin and Elena, welcome to our home! We bought this property in 2012 and have been working on it ever since. Located in Historic Westside Springfield, IL. Near downtown, Washington Park, historic sites and shopping. Close to everything without being too close to anything.
Hermit's Hideaway is located in the back of our charming(quirky), mostly renovated, 1859 house. There are mosaic tile floors and tile mosaic in the kitchen. Lots of custom touches throughout. Very quiet, cozy and secluded. Sunset views from the living room.
Gorgeous tiered koi pond off the private back deck. In spring and summer endless flowers. We do not use any poisons in the yard, and have created a large butterfly garden and every year we get more and more butterflies! Monarchs are Swallowtails are the most plentiful, but we get a wide variety. In the back yard is our chicken coop, we currently have 10 semi-free ranging chickens in the backyard. 2 cats: Zoro, Mr Z Kitty and Sir Oliver Butterscotch, the Belligerent. We also have 2 65 pound dogs; EmmaJane NaughtyPants and Link Underfoot. They are friendly in your face kind of dogs. We do our best to keep them away from guests, but they are around. This place is an opportunity to stay in a truly unique home, on an acre lot in the middle of the Historic West side. We also own a duplex on the property and have that set up as short term rentals as well. When the weather cooperates the backyard is irresistible. We put in a giant vegetable garden every year. We have pear, peach, cherry and apple trees, as well as strawberries, raspberries and blackberries growing.

There’s one bedroom at the back of the unit. In the front is a parlor room that can be closed off completely and function as a second bedroom. It has a futon sofa that can be made into a bed, but the space can also accommodate a queen-size air mattress.

You’re welcome to enjoy the front porch, which has gliders and a small table with chairs. This is a private bedroom perfect for a quiet quick place to stay. The bathroom is shared and accessed right outside the room. The shower and toilet are separate. Each room has their own mini fridge and tv. The fully-stocked kitchen and the living room are common areas where guests can share the different amenities offered. This bedroom is accessed through the front door and is located on the first floor unit. Guests who book this unit will not have access to the first floor unit and vice versa.

This old home has the perfect balance of historic charm and modern flare. We are located just two blocks from what many would agree is the best park in Springfield, with a pond, a botanical garden, tennis courts, a playground, and nice roads to run, walk, bike, or skate on. We are also very close to downtown as well as other commercial areas.

Note that we do have three cats. They are kept out of the private Airbnb space unless guests choose to let them in. They are all very friendly :-).

The space
Our home was built in the early 1900s and, although it has been renovated, that historic charm can still be seen throughout the entire space. On the first floor you’ll find the living room, kitchen and laundry which you are free to use if necessary. Your bedroom can be found in the second floor along with a bathroom down the hall that you will have all to yourself.

Any spaces pictured are available for use. Bedroom and bathroom (both on the 2nd floor) are private and everything else is shared.

During your stay
We will most likely be around during your stay, but you are not at all obligated to interact with us. If you need restaurant suggestions, have any questions about your space, or just want to have a conversation we will be available! Besides in person, the best way to contact us is through Airbnb messaging in the app.

Enjoy your stay in Springfield, IL with your entire private condo. You'll have your own spacious bedroom, living room, dining, and bathroom with a king size bed (firm). There is a wonderful patio in the back with very large field that you can enjoy. Located on Springfield's westside less than a mile from major highways/routes can get pretty much anywhere in Springfield within 10-15 minutes. Very peaceful & quiet area but still has plenty of restaurants, shopping, and a Starbucks nearby.

The space
Before anything else and because we've had a few issues - Please keep in mind we intend for our Airbnbs to be quiet stays. We live in a nice quiet neighborhood and we like our neighbors. We do not allow guests or visitors that are not listed in the original reservation and we do not allow parties. Please respect this rule, it is very important. If this isn't what you are looking for, Springfield has many other wonderful Airbnbs that allow parties and larger groups, this just isn't the setting for it.

When sending request we please ask that you include all guest that will becoming with you and a few sentences about yourself and reason for your trip.

Due to prior issues, if you are new to airbnb, have 0 reviews, and book within 1 day or same day, we may ask for more details about your trip, a phone call, or to meet at check in.

Please clean up after yourselves when eating and using dishes.

(Note:
This is a side by side duplex (two different addresses separated by a wall in the middle). We live on the other side and we have a baby and a dog. We consider ourselves quiet people, but you will most likely hear us at times. If you have any questions or concerns about noise from us prior to booking please let us know.

No cookware, coffee maker, or toaster available. There are smart tvs, but no local channels or cable television. Welcome to bring your own.)

Some of the rooms and storage spaces are locked off, but you will have access to the bedroom, bathroom, kitchen, and living room.

-Smoking is NOT allowed in the house.

-If you open the bedroom window the crank to close it may not shut it all the way so if its windy you may hear wind coming through. It just has to be pushed from the outside to close it all the way.

-No local television channels or cable television. Streaming apps are available on the tvs.

-No garage access.

-The bathroom has a stand in shower (no tub).

-There is no cookware or cooking supplies in the kitchen. Feel free to bring your own. No coffee maker. There are some dishes, please clean them if you use them. Thanks!
