This location is ideal for vacationers, horse back riders, hunters, or anyone wanting a remote beautiful quiet location. This property has an expansive view. Close to a nice Restaurant and bar with gaming facility, which is closest neighbor. NO SMOKING INSIDE. Outside smoking only. Located just a few miles from Garden of the Gods, Fishing and boating at Gleno Jones lake, Stone Face, Bell Smith Springs, Burden Falls, High Knob ranch, Double M campground.

- "The property meet our family of 4 expectations. We went to check out the eastern side of the Shawnee forest. We went to garden of gods, cave in rock, rim rock, and bell smith springs. The view and privacy are just what we needed. This location is not close to restaurants or stores. We cooked all our meals but one there. We did have a good meal at Trails End after hiking." - "We chose this property because it allowed couples their own rooms and bathrooms. In addition, this property is in the country with a beautiful view. We enjoyed the hammock and bench swing as well. We hiked at Garden of the Gods viewing the tree tops and then hiking the lower rim. We also hiked at Rim Rock. The next day we went to Jackson Falls but didn't take the hike down to get the front view of the falls. But, we did get to watch a 6/7 year old boy (fully supervised by his dad and his dad's friend) climb down a rock ledge in his rock climbing gear (safety all the way). And, we videoed a teen jump from the top of the falls into the pool of water below. He even climbed back up via a tree/trees the are growing next to the rock wall. That was cool too!"

From here, you can see the Stone Fort Bluffs, Tom Dick Hill, and the beginning of the Shawnee National Forest to the southeast.
Nearby attractions include Burden Falls, Bell Smith Springs, John Mack Hollow, Buzzards Roost, McCormick Lookout Tower, Trigg Tower, Jack’s Trail Ride, Camp Ondessonk, and Cedar Falls—all just minutes away. The Garden of the Gods and Cave in Rock are also easily accessible.
Guests have access to the entire property, except for areas that are locked and designated for storage. Stonefort is a quiet, sleepy little town with a population of 250 and excellent access to the Shawnee National Forest. The Tunnel Hill State Trail runs straight through the middle of town.

Everything here is on a hill with lots of rocks. If it's raining or recently rained you may find mud. Expect to see & hear nature all around you. This is a working farm so you may hear & see us or hear any of the neighboring farm properties. We are on property and also have exterior cameras throughout the 40 acre property. No Fence around pool! You accept responsibility for yourself & other guests.

3 night minimum on weekends or holidays and 2 night weekdays *the app keeps reverting minimum nights back to 2 nights in error. we will only honor bookings with our minimum night policy followed.

This 3 Bedroom is just a short drive to the wonderful Shawnee National Forest. The Master bedroom has a king bed with the second bedroom off of the Master with a small twin bed for extra guests or children who like to be close to the parents. The third bedroom has two full beds. All beds are very comfortable memory foam mattresses.

Entering the home, you'll be welcomed by the open concept living with an abundance of natural light pouring in from the wall-to-wall windows. Centered in the home, the floor to ceiling stone covered see-through fireplace welcomes you with the invitation to grab a blanket and cozy on in. One thing to note is the cell phone signals are completely cut off in this area but the house has a great fiber optics internet and so we were still connected to outside world. If you want to good privacy and a rural setting then this is a perfect location in Shawnee area."

Hi! Our home is pet friendly with a one time pet fee of $50.00. Our cozy home is located in the heart of Harrisburg, which is know as the "Gateway to the Shawnee National Forest." The home is within walking distance of some very nice downtown shops and restaurants. The Tunnel Hill Bike Path is only one block away, and the beautiful Garden of the Gods is a scenic 22 mile drive away. Come put your feet up on our screened in porch and watch the squirrels play!
The space:
This home is over 100 years old. You can expect high ceilings, and original wood accents. It is very cozy and welcoming to families. With an older home, please also expect old pipes and things like that.
Guest access:
Local restaurants and shops can easily be reached on foot. There is a bike path only a block away. Grocery and other stores having anything you may need are only a short drive away.

Approximately twelve miles south of the closest town and about eight miles from Garden of the Gods and other hiking recreational sites. The home is roomy and cozy. It is large enough for a couple of families or just to let your own family members have their own space. It is a great place to relax, grill out, or just do some porch sitting. Or if you want to take in some sights, you aren’t far from Garden of the Gods, Bell Smith Springs, Burden Falls, Rim Rock or Pounds Hollow. Raley (Rail-eee) Road Retreat is your secluded getaway for cycling and more - quiet and private. This property sits back off the road to the northwest, and is mostly obscured from view by trees and the sloping land. A horseshoe gravel driveway allows guests to drive up from either the east or west entrances. Each driveway entrance has the Raley Road Retreat signage to help identify the property. At any time as you step outside or drive up, you might encounter deer, turkeys, or an occasional eagle. Though rural, the house has smart locks and internet which uplifts the functionality a guest might need!

THE MAIN FLOOR: Each room has been decorated with a tasteful and fun mixture of old and new décor and furniture; many pieces guests use now were used by the owners. Two bedrooms are available; one has a King Bed and the other a Queen Bed. Both bedrooms have ensuite full bathrooms, and each bathroom has a double sink. Both mattresses are cooling memory foam, and if you enjoy a firm mattress, the Queen Room is your best bet! Shampoo, conditioner and lotion are stocked in each bathroom as well as towels for drying off and makeup towels. The hair dryer is stored in the King bathroom. Each bedroom has USB recharging ports either on the bedside lamps or nightstands, or both!

THE KITCHEN has all basic utensils and items for preparing food; including a coffee maker and coffee grounds ready to be used!

Speaking of coffee, THE BASEMENT is outfitted with a Keurig and microwave. It also has a bike stand for indoor storage of any bikes you bring along. One fun feature of the basement is a large, 3'X4' map of Tunnel Hill Bike Trail and where Raley Road is along that path, in addition to listings of area attractions! A bike stand is provided so your bikes can be stored securely indoors, as well as basic bike maintenance essentials. The basement also has a full bath which is handy if a guest just arrived from the trail and needs a quick bathroom stop. Two bookshelves, one in the basement and another on the main floor are stocked with various books, maps, games, and guides to local areas of interest.

Need to do laundry during your stay? We have you covered. Our new LG washer and dryer are set up in the mud room just outside the kitchen. Laundry detergent and dryer sheets will be provided for your ease.

Host also went out of their way to acquire a bag toss game and arrange a grill setup (which was not on the list of amenities). One of very few places that we have stayed where we did not have to take time to clean the microwave and refrigerator prior to use. Ferne Clyffe State Park has very nice hiking trails and is within half an hour. Garden of the Gods is also very nice, but is slightly farther away. We stayed with another couple, enjoyed the fact that the house is set up with two master bedrooms and bathrooms, and we would certainly stay again."

We are a Pet and Kid Friendly resort. We allow up to two pets per unit for no additional charge, however, we do require a credit card to be on file in the event there is any damage to the unit or its furnishings. To remain a pet friendly resort, pets that are aggressive towards other dogs, cats or people, will NOT be allowed. Pet owners assume ALL liability for their pets. We do have cats on our property so if your dog is aggressive or likes to chase cats, please leash them at all times or do not bring them. We love our pets too. Aggressive animals will be asked to leave immediately.

All pets are required to be current on shots and must be protected with Flea and Tick medicine BEFORE you arrive. If you forget, we do have some for sale in the Outpost. All pets must be crated if left unattended in the units. No exceptions please! For your convenience, we do rent crates of all sizes for $8 per visit (not per night) but it is BYOB (Bring Your Own Blanket). Please call us in advance if you will need a crate in your unit. Please note, we will automatically charge your credit card for any damages done to the units, furnishings, linens or towels. Although we have never had to charge someone for damages, you will be required to sign a paper stating that you agree to these charges in advance. In the event this is ever necessary, we will provide photographs of the damages. PLEASE help us remain a pet friendly resort and just let us know if your pet had a bad day and accidentally chewed the towel or corner of the rug. We ask only that you reimburse us for the cost of the damaged item.

Even if your pet typically doesn't jump on the furniture, PLEASE bring thick blankets to cover the furniture with anyway! This goes a long way to helping the cleaning people get all the dog hair up before the next guests arrive. Thanks!

All guests MUST check in at our ice cream and gift shop Garden of the God's outpost at 281 Karber's ridge road. Once checked in you will be given your door code, wifi password, local information and a map to the cabin you are staying at. Currently the Outpost is open Monday-Thursday 10a-6p and Friday-Sunday 10a-8p , if you'll be arriving after hours please call the Outpost at 618-264-9091 to arrange after hours check in.

The Outpost serves as a sort of home base for all our guests with supplies, gifts, ice cream, to go food, t-shirts and more.

The kids LOVED the loft, we brought our own food- easy to stock the fridge, microwave fabulous for reheating, and the outpost had many great things we could have bought even if we hadn’t come with our meals planned. We also stopped by the outpost every day for ice cream :-) it was a must and so perfect after hikes!! We loved everything. Cabin was very clean, the futon couch was very comfortable also (where I slept). The only thing the kids wished we also would have found was the smiley face swing :-) lol. Elizabeth was fabulous too- we had a snafu in the code to get in initially so I called her and she answered immediately and helped us get right in. I have zero complaints and nothing but wonderful things to say about the property, the process, and Elizabeth. They had even left fresh flowers on the table to welcome us! It was such a thoughtful touch and you could really feel the love and welcoming energy and that they really want everyone to enjoy their stay. It meant so much to us. It does have a door which can be closed to give privacy should that be needed. Very close to all the restaurants, grocery stores and all the things one need for a great stay. It is within walking distance of the Hospital and Golf Course. Just a short 5 to 10 minute bike ride to the Tunnel Hill state Trail. Its 15-20 minutes from the Shawnee National Forest and Numerous State Parks.

This one-bed, mushroom-shaped and mushroom-themed micro-cottage is perfect for one or two people who want to get away from technology and stress. It borders the Shawnee National Forest for easy access to nature’s gifts for all types of outdoor lovers. We welcome your moderate-sized dog to join you as well.
The cottage has a full bathroom, small kitchenette, murphy bed/couch combo, and eating area.

The space
The cottage is on 20 acres of family property (about 1.25 centuries). There are a few trails, one of which leads you to the Shawnee National Forest and the Reid’s Chapel Wilderness area. We’re close to many national forest wonders like Garden of the Gods, Burden Falls, and Bell Smith Spring. On our property enjoy our Amish Swing, small dock (with catch and release, one pole provided), and ask about the use of our patio and fire pit. You’ll find a few old farm relics on one path, like an old combine, wagon, and planter. Look but don’t touch as these are old and rusty. After a good rain, the creek will run down the hillside but is dry otherwise. Enjoy this property with your pet (we follow forest guidelines dogs must be on a leash while outside). Our furry pets are family, too! Our primary residence is on the property as well, though we are on the go a lot as we’re retired. So, enjoy what our space has to offer…a dock over the pond, a serenity swing, trails, and access to all the splendors of the Shawnee!

Hi! Our home is pet friendly with a one time pet fee of $50.00. Our cozy home is located in the heart of Harrisburg, which is know as the "Gateway to the Shawnee National Forest." The home is within walking distance of some very nice downtown shops and restaurants. The Tunnel Hill Bike Path is only one block away, and the beautiful Garden of the Gods is a scenic 22 mile drive away. Come put your feet up on our screened in porch and watch the squirrels play!

This home is over 100 years old. You can expect high ceilings, and original wood accents. It is very cozy and welcoming to familys. With an older home, please also expect old pipes and things of that nature.

If you are looking for a quiet place to call home for a few days, we have it. We love the Shawnee National Forest! But when we are done exploring and having adventures, it’s so nice to come to our small town and relax in a beautiful garden setting without ticks or other unpleasant creatures. We have a charming apartment at 217, just 15-20 minutes from the SNF in Harrisburg, Illinois. You can enjoy relaxing in our private hot tub on the pagoda while listening to the birds sing or our favorite tree frogs ! The Steam Cafe offers breakfast and delicious coffees, it’s a 7 minute walk up the street. It’s perfect for nature lovers exploring Shawnee National Forest but who also enjoy fast internet, Roku tv, restaurants, fountains, and flowers.

A dip in the hot tub is always nice before snuggling into your comfy bed and a beautiful moon viewed from the back pagoda is always a special treat. And if your #adventures get you wet and muddy, we have a washer & dryer downstairs for our guests to use!

• Bicycles ~ We have two adult bikes (men & women) that you are welcome to use. Please let us know before you arrive, and we will be sure they are ready for you. Ride on the Tunnel Hill trail, it’s half a mile from us…ride miles or minutes.... you don't have to go the entire way (45 miles). #noexpectations

• Pickleball ~ We have two pickleball sets for up to eight people available for our guests. The park (west of the Apartment down Church Street, half a mile) has two new pickleball courts. We have two sets of 4 paddles & balls hanging in the garage for your use, they are marked in tote bags, "Apartment at 217".

• Tennis ~ We have four tennis racquets and balls if you want to go to the park and play a game, the racquets and balls are also hanging in bags marked "Apartment at 217" in the garage. There are two new tennis courts available. The park is walking distance, (on sidewalks) and about a mile west of the Apartment.

• Trails & Hiking ~ Our favorite app for hiking is AllTrails. We also have maps available for your use in the Apartment. Phones don’t work everywhere in the Shawnee National Forest, so take a picture of your map or take a map…. phones aren't much help when they won’t connect! Our favorite trails are :

The Apartment is a delightful place to rest, relax, and unwind with just you or your family... 880 square feet of private space inside. And our location makes it easy to walk to restaurants, we are three blocks from the town square.

Outside, the pagoda beckons you to relax and enjoy your time away. Keurig coffee on the pagoda by the fire pit is a good way to relax! We have a great cleaning team after each guest. Please note that we are on multiple listing sites so if your dates are not available, they are reserved by guests on other sites.

You can go out for your meals or cook your own. We are within strolling distance to several restaurants or the Steam Cafe for delicious coffee type drinks, if you prefer dining out.

Your kitchen has dishes, pots, pans and utensils if you want to cook. We have local restaurant menus in the Apartment. Cooking is easy on the four-burner electric stove with oven or outside on the Weber grill (bring your charcoal). Store your supplies in the full-size refrigerator. There is a microwave and a Keurig coffee (provided) maker (also a Mr. Coffee maker) and an electric kettle in the kitchen. The bathroom has a surround tub and shower with fluffy towels and upscale amenities. (Shampoo, conditioner, soap, moisturizing lotion, hand soap, first aid kit, etc.)

Enjoy a good night's rest on either of the three beds (two twin beds in the front bedroom, one queen size bed in back bedroom) or nap on the couch in the living room. Each bedroom has a walk-in closet to store your "things".

Each mattress has a zippered cover to protect against allergens and pests. The queen bed has a Zinus mattress. After researching we chose this 12-inch queen mattress from Zinus: "Refreshing green tea and moisture-absorbing charcoal infused into three layers of top-notch foam. This mattress cradles every curve—alleviating those points of tension and allowing your body to recover as you rest. " We hope you enjoy!

Everyone can have their own space in our apartment. We also have available if you need it, a washer and dryer in the garage under the Apartment.
You will find it beautiful, inside and out! Our large patio pagoda is covered by Sunbrella fabric to block 95% of the sun's UV rays...we recommend a good book on the patio with some sweet tea or a cup of coffee as you relax to the sound of our fountains and birds singing.

Enjoy the chair swings on the pagoda with the fountains, hot tub, and birds singing. We also have a outdoor fireplace and a propane fire pit if the nights are a little cool. An outdoor dining table and several Adirondack style chairs make it easy to relax in the beautiful setting.

Growing up in the south, we have a love for flowering plants and there is always something blooming in our yard until the frost of winter arrives.

Parking: We have one dedicated parking space outside the apartment, under the flag and fountain. Let us know before your visit if you need an extra space. We want you to be comfortable and enjoy your stay.

Contactless entry with the door coded lock, you will receive a welcome email with your door code before your arrival. Guests have full access to the apartment, except the supply closet. The apartment is private, like a carriage house (upstairs) above our three car garage. It has a private entry.
We have a no smoking policy on the property, inside and out.
Parking for one car is available between the two garage doors, under the flag and guest parking sign. If you need more parking, please let us know in advance and we may be able to arrange our cars to accommodate your needs.

Other things to note
Every season in the Harrisburg is a special time. The bluffs and streams are more visible in winter without the leaves hiding them but the colors and flowers in spring and summer are beautiful… and the fall colors are delightful. The weather is usually cooperative with walkable temps most times of the year. The Shawnee National Forest headquarters is located in Harrisburg, five minutes from the Apartment. It is an invaluable resource to have in our community and the rangers can provide all kind of information on hunting, hiking, and exploring in the Shawnee. You can write your own adventure while you visit Southern Illinois. The Southeastern Tourism website has many more activities to get you started on your journey...you will find our area as the "Trails to Adventure" region.

Hike on the Shawnee Forest trails (we have maps in the Apartment or you can go to the Shawnee National Forest headquarters in Harrisburg....where they have LOTS of maps), hike at Bell Smith Springs, Jackson Falls or many of the other trails near us. Guests all need to experience the Garden of the Gods, which is about 20-30 minutes from our place.

Hunting & Fishing are always popular in Southern Illinois.
The Saline County State Fish & Wildlife Area (Glen O. Jones Lake) is just twenty minutes away and offers several different types of game. It is a combination of bottom land bordering the south fork of the Saline River adjacent to the Shawnee National Forest. The rugged rock hills are heavily timbered with springs, rocky creeks and the lake furnishing water for wildlife.

American Quilt Society Quilt Weeks, Paducah, Kentucky
Just a short one hour drive across the bridge will put you in Paducah, Kentucky where quilters from around the world gather during the AQS QuiltWeeks! So many fun things to see and do during Quilt Week- people from neighboring states and even countries make it a special gathering! There are now two AQS Quiltweeks, spring (April) and fall (September) in Paducah.

Metropolis, just south of us hosts the Superman Celebration in early June each year with everything Superman available. Also, in October they have the Fort Massac Encampment. "See what life was like back in the 1700s and early 1800s at Fort Massac State Park’s Annual Fort Massac Encampment, which will be held at the historic site. They are usually the third weekend of October."

Running Events
Race: Annual Shawnee Marathon, October
The scenic route in the Shawnee National Forest runs from Southeastern Illinois College to the town of Equality and back. It is a Boston Marathon qualifying race, which means if runners meet a certain time goal, they can qualify for the Boston Marathon.

**RRCA CHAMPIONSHIP RACE** Nationally Ranked 10 Mile Run (Runner’s World)

Event: River to River Relay, April
Teams of eight runners compete on an 80-mile course. Each runner completes three sections that range in length from 2.5 to 4 miles. Teams are started in groups every 30 minutes beginning at 6:15am and continuing until the last group is started at 8:45am. The finish line closes at exactly 8:00pm. There is a waiting list to get in this race.

If you want to drive to Marion (23 miles) you can have a great time at the Hub Recreation Center a 4,000 sq. ft. building where activities like swimming, exercising, and playing sports radiate throughout the facility. It has an indoor pool, lazy river, waterslide, group fitness, therapy spa, basketball, fitness center, water aerobics, indoor track, volleyball, locker rooms, snack bar, on-site child watch, and much more! Day passes are available for about $12 (adults) or $10 (17 or younger) or a family of 3 ($32) or family of 4 ($37).

If you get tired the outdoors, there are great malls for shopping in Paducah or Evansville, you could also take a drive on one of the wine trails, Southern Illinois Wine Trail or Shawnee Hills Wine Trail.

Paducah, Kentucky (1 hour) : Kentucky Oaks Mall is a spacious shopping mall in Paducah. The mall is anchored by designer stores like JCPenney, Best Buy, and Dillard's. 5101 Hinkleville Rd, Paducah

Evansville, Indiana (1 hour 20 minutes) Eastland Mall is a shopping center including Dillard's, Macy's, JCPenney, Forever 21, American Eagle, and many more stores and restaurants. This mall is surrounded by shops and restaurants which are listed in the "mall" listing. This is our largest mall unless you go to St. Louis.
