Or just enjoy greeting the day inside on the comfortable leather sofa. However, my favorite is sitting outside on the comfortable sofa area by the hot tub and enjoying the birds singing and the sound of the fountains running. The coneflowers and patio plants are beautiful as you enjoy our private backyard oasis.

Spring is also a great for taking a Wildflower Walk. The Giant City State Park is doing guided Trillium Trail walks in April...or you can go on a self-guided hike. The Midwest Nomad Family wrote about this trail on their May 2.2023, blog. It's very kid-friendly and a fun, shorter trail to explore. They posted some great pictures and insights.

Please note that we have a "no pet" policy so that our next guests with allergies will not have any problems. We want to respect and welcome all our guests.

Enjoy hiking or the bike trail (we have two bikes for guest use), and now we have an electric bike rental business down the street. Ride or walk half a mile to the Tunnel Hill bike trail or half a mile in the opposite direction takes you to our Harrisburg Park. It's a great time to get outdoors!

While you are here you can go inside & relax with your favorite shows streaming on the 55" TV or go outside for a soak in the private hot tub. In the living area, we have added a desk, chair, and computer (WIFI is fast) with shortcuts to our favorite trails, restaurants, and activities such as ziplining, kayaking, and horseback riding. Use the keyboard to explore or search the internet so you can “know before you go”. Watch your favorite shows on our 55" Smart TV with Roku (55" Smart TV -Paramount+/Discovery+/Amazon Prime available or sign into your Netflix, Hulu, etc.)

We have an electric fireplace under the Smart TV (ROKU remote) which is so nice for the cooler evenings. Stay connected with fast WIFI. Grill/cook inside or walk to nearby restaurants. Enjoy the fire pit or fireplace, hammock chairs, outdoor Adirondack chairs, and a dining area with charcoal grill.

We also have a washer & dryer available for our guests to use downstairs, in the garage under the Apartment.

Located just a few miles from Garden of the Gods, Fishing and boating at Gleno Jones lake, Stone Face, Bell Smith Springs, Burden Falls, High Knob ranch, Double M campground.

- "The property meet our family of 4 expectations. We went to check out the eastern side of the Shawnee forest. We went to garden of gods, cave in rock, rim rock, and bell smith springs. The view and privacy are just what we needed. This location is not close to restaurants or stores. We cooked all our meals but one there. We did have a good meal at Trails End after hiking." - "We chose this property because it allowed couples their own rooms and bathrooms. In addition, this property is in the country with a beautiful view. We enjoyed the hammock and bench swing as well. We hiked at Garden of the Gods viewing the tree tops and then hiking the lower rim. We also hiked at Rim Rock. The next day we went to Jackson Falls but didn't take the hike down to get the front view of the falls. But, we did get to watch a 6/7 year old boy (fully supervised by his dad and his dad's friend) climb down a rock ledge in his rock climbing gear (safety all the way). And, we videoed a teen jump from the top of the falls into the pool of water below. He even climbed back up via a tree/trees the are growing next to the rock wall. That was cool too!"

Everything here is on a hill with lots of rocks. If it's raining or recently rained you may find mud. Expect to see & hear nature all around you. This is a working farm so you may hear & see us or hear any of the neighboring farm properties. We are on property and also have exterior cameras throughout the 40 acre property. No Fence around pool! You accept responsibility for yourself & other guests.

3 night minimum on weekends or holidays and 2 night weekdays *the app keeps reverting minimum nights back to 2 nights in error. we will only honor bookings with our minimum night policy followed.

This 3 Bedroom is just a short drive to the wonderful Shawnee National Forest. The Master bedroom has a king bed with the second bedroom off of the Master with a small twin bed for extra guests or children who like to be close to the parents. The third bedroom has two full beds. All beds are very comfortable memory foam mattresses.
Enjoy all the sites such as the Garden of the Gods, Bell Smith Springs, Pounds Hollow, and much more. We are a 2 minute drive from the Shawnee National Forest headquarters as well, where you can find everything you need to know about all the things to see and do.

Entering the home, you'll be welcomed by the open concept living with an abundance of natural light pouring in from the wall-to-wall windows. Centered in the home, the floor to ceiling stone covered see-through fireplace welcomes you with the invitation to grab a blanket and cozy on in. Surrounding the fireplace, you'll find a coat closet, dining area, additional sitting area, living room with a flat screen T.V large pantry with lots of storage, and the fully stocked kitchen with stainless steel commercial appliances including: two convection ovens, 6-burner gas range, microwave, ice-machine, double dishwasher, fridge and freezer.

Exiting through the kitchen and living area off the back of the home, the fully furnished screened in porch invites you to dine outside at the large dining table, relax by the fireplace in the comfy outdoor sitting area, or sway on the bed swing as you take in the scenery across the lake spread out in front of you. In addition, the deck wraps around to another outdoor dining area set next to the pergola covered grilling station. Situated across the hall from the office/den, the spacious Primary Bedroom offers a king size bed, bed side tables with lamps, sitting area, black out curtains, custom built-in shelves with a flat screen TV, walk in closet, full bath with a walk-in shower, soaking tub, two sinks and private toilet stall. In addition, this bedroom also offers private access to the screened in porch where the bed swing resides.

On the opposite side of the home, as you walk down the hall, passing by the guest bathroom, you will find the additional three bedrooms. The first two bedrooms situated across the hall from each other both are furnished with king size beds, bed side tables with lamps, walk-in closets, black out curtains and private bathrooms with walk in showers. One of these king suites also has private access to the wrap around deck. The bunkroom found at the rear of the home sleeps a total of six people between the two queen beds and two twin beds, has blackout curtains, a walk-in closet and a private bathroom with a walk-in shower.

Across from the bunkroom, there is a laundry/mud room with a full-size washer and dryer, laundry wash tub and locker cubbies for your outdoor wear.

At the end of the hallway situated between the laundry and bunkroom is the side entrance of the home leading to the grilling deck.

One thing to note is the cell phone signals are completely cut off in this area but the house has a great fiber optics internet and so we were still connected to outside world. If you want to good privacy and a rural setting then this is a perfect location in Shawnee area."

Hi! Our home is pet friendly with a one time pet fee of $50.00. Our cozy home is located in the heart of Harrisburg, which is know as the "Gateway to the Shawnee National Forest." The home is within walking distance of some very nice downtown shops and restaurants. The Tunnel Hill Bike Path is only one block away, and the beautiful Garden of the Gods is a scenic 22 mile drive away. Come put your feet up on our screened in porch and watch the squirrels play!
The space:
This home is over 100 years old. You can expect high ceilings, and original wood accents. It is very cozy and welcoming to families. With an older home, please also expect old pipes and things like that.
Guest access:
Local restaurants and shops can easily be reached on foot. There is a bike path only a block away. Grocery and other stores having anything you may need are only a short drive away.

This a great 1500 sqft 3 Bedroom home located within driving distance to Shawnee National Forest ! The SNF is home to so many amazing outdoor recreational opportunities. Just to name a few are the Garden of the gods, Bell Smith Springs, Burden Falls, Pounds Hollow and so Many more.

Approximately twelve miles south of the closest town and about eight miles from Garden of the Gods and other hiking recreational sites. The home is roomy and cozy. It is large enough for a couple of families or just to let your own family members have their own space. It is a great place to relax, grill out, or just do some porch sitting. Or if you want to take in some sights, you aren’t far from Garden of the Gods, Bell Smith Springs, Burden Falls, Rim Rock or Pounds Hollow. This area is also very horse friendly and this home is not far from several trails and horse campgrounds such as Double M, High Knob, Little Lusk, and Bear Branch Campgrounds. It is also about two miles from Williams Hill Pass that supports four wheeling and dirt biking trails and about four miles from the River to River Trail. So if you want to do a lot of nothing or lots of everything, it is a great location. You most likely will see some wildlife daily whether it is deer, birds, foxes, turkeys, etc in the spacious yard or fields. The home has everything you should need for your stay and is very clean and neat and private. It boasts a full kitchen that is fully stocked. Raley (Rail-eee) Road Retreat is your secluded getaway for cycling and more - quiet and private. This property sits back off the road to the northwest, and is mostly obscured from view by trees and the sloping land. A horseshoe gravel driveway allows guests to drive up from either the east or west entrances. Each driveway entrance has the Raley Road Retreat signage to help identify the property. At any time as you step outside or drive up, you might encounter deer, turkeys, or an occasional eagle. Though rural, the house has smart locks and internet which uplifts the functionality a guest might need!

THE MAIN FLOOR: Each room has been decorated with a tasteful and fun mixture of old and new décor and furniture; many pieces guests use now were used by the owners. Two bedrooms are available; one has a King Bed and the other a Queen Bed. Both bedrooms have ensuite full bathrooms, and each bathroom has a double sink. Both mattresses are cooling memory foam, and if you enjoy a firm mattress, the Queen Room is your best bet! Shampoo, conditioner and lotion are stocked in each bathroom as well as towels for drying off and makeup towels. The hair dryer is stored in the King bathroom. Each bedroom has USB recharging ports either on the bedside lamps or nightstands, or both!

THE KITCHEN has all basic utensils and items for preparing food; including a coffee maker and coffee grounds ready to be used!

Speaking of coffee, THE BASEMENT is outfitted with a Keurig and microwave. It also has a bike stand for indoor storage of any bikes you bring along. One fun feature of the basement is a large, 3'X4' map of Tunnel Hill Bike Trail and where Raley Road is along that path, in addition to listings of area attractions! A bike stand is provided so your bikes can be stored securely indoors, as well as basic bike maintenance essentials. The basement also has a full bath which is handy if a guest just arrived from the trail and needs a quick bathroom stop. Two bookshelves, one in the basement and another on the main floor are stocked with various books, maps, games, and guides to local areas of interest.

Need to do laundry during your stay? We have you covered. Our new LG washer and dryer are set up in the mud room just outside the kitchen. Laundry detergent and dryer sheets will be provided for your ease.

Host also went out of their way to acquire a bag toss game and arrange a grill setup (which was not on the list of amenities). One of very few places that we have stayed where we did not have to take time to clean the microwave and refrigerator prior to use. Ferne Clyffe State Park has very nice hiking trails and is within half an hour. Garden of the Gods is also very nice, but is slightly farther away. We stayed with another couple, enjoyed the fact that the house is set up with two master bedrooms and bathrooms, and we would certainly stay again."

We allow up to two pets per unit for no additional charge, however, we do require a credit card to be on file in the event there is any damage to the unit or its furnishings. To remain a pet friendly resort, pets that are aggressive towards other dogs, cats or people, will NOT be allowed. Pet owners assume ALL liability for their pets. We do have cats on our property so if your dog is aggressive or likes to chase cats, please leash them at all times or do not bring them. We love our pets too. Aggressive animals will be asked to leave immediately.

All pets are required to be current on shots and must be protected with Flea and Tick medicine BEFORE you arrive. If you forget, we do have some for sale in the Outpost. All pets must be crated if left unattended in the units. No exceptions please! For your convenience, we do rent crates of all sizes for $8 per visit (not per night) but it is BYOB (Bring Your Own Blanket). Please call us in advance if you will need a crate in your unit. Please note, we will automatically charge your credit card for any damages done to the units, furnishings, linens or towels. Although we have never had to charge someone for damages, you will be required to sign a paper stating that you agree to these charges in advance. In the event this is ever necessary, we will provide photographs of the damages. PLEASE help us remain a pet friendly resort and just let us know if your pet had a bad day and accidentally chewed the towel or corner of the rug. We ask only that you reimburse us for the cost of the damaged item.

Even if your pet typically doesn't jump on the furniture, PLEASE bring thick blankets to cover the furniture with anyway! This goes a long way to helping the cleaning people get all the dog hair up before the next guests arrive. Thanks!

All guests MUST check in at our ice cream and gift shop Garden of the God's outpost at 281 Karber's ridge road. Once checked in you will be given your door code, wifi password, local information and a map to the cabin you are staying at. Currently the Outpost is open Monday-Thursday 10a-6p and Friday-Sunday 10a-8p , if you'll be arriving after hours please call the Outpost at 618-264-9091 to arrange after hours check in.

The Outpost serves as a sort of home base for all our guests with supplies, gifts, ice cream, to go food, t-shirts and more.

After spending lots of time hiking and playing outside, coming back to relax and still being able to enjoy some tv or the kids playing some games on their devices upstairs in the loft was truly just the best. The kids LOVED the loft, we brought our own food- easy to stock the fridge, microwave fabulous for reheating, and the outpost had many great things we could have bought even if we hadn’t come with our meals planned. We also stopped by the outpost every day for ice cream :-) it was a must and so perfect after hikes!! We loved everything. Cabin was very clean, the futon couch was very comfortable also (where I slept). The only thing the kids wished we also would have found was the smiley face swing :-) lol. Elizabeth was fabulous too- we had a snafu in the code to get in initially so I called her and she answered immediately and helped us get right in. I have zero complaints and nothing but wonderful things to say about the property, the process, and Elizabeth. They had even left fresh flowers on the table to welcome us! It was such a thoughtful touch and you could really feel the love and welcoming energy and that they really want everyone to enjoy their stay. It meant so much to us. Thank you so much for such a wonderful spot for us to make lifelong amazing memories- we are absolutely hoping to be back again!"

Great area for hiking, hunting and exploring towns close by. The Hideaway is a short drive to Garden of the Gods, 14 miles; Glen O Jones Lake, 10 mile; and the Shawnee National Forest is also close by. We are close to Cave in Rock, 24 miles as well as several towns including Harrisburg, Eldorado, Shawneetown and Ridgway
