The old farmhouse is a one-of-a-kind place to relax, surrounded by farms and fields. Just recently had a total makeover. Leather furniture, wood floors, barn wood, and metal ceilings. The fireplace surround is a unique stone, personally gathered from a local quarry. Artwork and antiques add to the warm and inviting atmosphere. The kitchen is fully furnished with cookware and has all modern appliances and a gas grill outback. Relax and enjoy a quiet dinner inside or dine and have a drink under the star on the new private deck. Or if you prefer, dine out at one of the many great unique local restaurants. Wake up in your relaxing two bedroom carriage house and leisurely make a cup of coffee to start your day. (K pods & French vanilla creamer provided or Mr. Coffee available) or take a 5-7 minute walk down to the Steam Cafe coffee shop and have a latte or breakfast! You will pass by our beautiful new mural, “Shawnee Sunrise”, sit and enjoy at a picnic table …it’s beautiful any time of day!

Or just enjoy greeting the day inside on the comfortable leather sofa. However, my favorite is sitting outside on the comfortable sofa area by the hot tub and enjoying the birds singing and the sound of the fountains running. The coneflowers and patio plants are beautiful as you enjoy our private backyard oasis.

Spring is also a great for taking a Wildflower Walk. The Giant City State Park is doing guided Trillium Trail walks in April...or you can go on a self-guided hike. The Midwest Nomad Family wrote about this trail on their May 2.2023, blog. It's very kid-friendly and a fun, shorter trail to explore. They posted some great pictures and insights.

Please note that we have a "no pet" policy so that our next guests with allergies will not have any problems. We want to respect and welcome all our guests.

Enjoy hiking or the bike trail (we have two bikes for guest use), and now we have an electric bike rental business down the street. Ride or walk half a mile to the Tunnel Hill bike trail or half a mile in the opposite direction takes you to our Harrisburg Park. It's a great time to get outdoors!

While you are here you can go inside & relax with your favorite shows streaming on the 55" TV or go outside for a soak in the private hot tub. In the living area, we have added a desk, chair, and computer (WIFI is fast) with shortcuts to our favorite trails, restaurants, and activities such as ziplining, kayaking, and horseback riding. Use the keyboard to explore or search the internet so you can “know before you go”. Watch your favorite shows on our 55" Smart TV with Roku (55" Smart TV -Paramount+/Discovery+/Amazon Prime available or sign into your Netflix, Hulu, etc.)

We have an electric fireplace under the Smart TV (ROKU remote) which is so nice for the cooler evenings. Stay connected with fast WIFI. Grill/cook inside or walk to nearby restaurants. Enjoy the fire pit or fireplace, hammock chairs, outdoor Adirondack chairs, and a dining area with charcoal grill.

We also have a washer & dryer available for our guests to use downstairs, in the garage under the Apartment.

The Pine Ridge home is located on 4 private acres a few miles from our main resort, just minutes from the Garden of the Gods, the most visited site in the Shawnee National Forest. The home was completely gutted and remodeled in 2016 and features a hot tub on the covered porch. There is an air hockey table in the game area and of course, FREE WiFi and Dish TV with FREE movie channels. The kitchen is a large full size kitchen. The dining area table seats 6. There is a twin size day bed with trundle in the game room. We supply complimentary coffee, coffee filters, cream, sugar packets, salt, pepper, hand soap, dish soap, toilet paper, paper towels, firewood and camp chairs and of course, FREE WiFi.

In the event this is ever necessary, we will provide photographs of the damages. PLEASE help us remain a pet friendly resort and just let us know if your pet had a bad day and accidentally chewed the towel or corner of the rug. Located just a few miles from Garden of the Gods, Fishing and boating at Gleno Jones lake, Stone Face, Bell Smith Springs, Burden Falls, High Knob ranch, Double M campground.

- "The property meet our family of 4 expectations. We went to check out the eastern side of the Shawnee forest. We went to garden of gods, cave in rock, rim rock, and bell smith springs. The view and privacy are just what we needed. This location is not close to restaurants or stores. We cooked all our meals but one there. We did have a good meal at Trails End after hiking." - "We chose this property because it allowed couples their own rooms and bathrooms. In addition, this property is in the country with a beautiful view. We enjoyed the hammock and bench swing as well. We hiked at Garden of the Gods viewing the tree tops and then hiking the lower rim. We also hiked at Rim Rock. The next day we went to Jackson Falls but didn't take the hike down to get the front view of the falls. But, we did get to watch a 6/7 year old boy (fully supervised by his dad and his dad's friend) climb down a rock ledge in his rock climbing gear (safety all the way). And, we videoed a teen jump from the top of the falls into the pool of water below. He even climbed back up via a tree/trees the are growing next to the rock wall. That was cool too!"

All pets must be crated if left unattended in the units. No exceptions please! For your convenience, we do rent crates of all sizes for $8 per visit (not per night) but it is BYOB (Bring Your Own Blanket). Please call us in advance if you will need a crate in your unit. Please note, we will automatically charge your credit card for any damages done to the units, furnishings, linens or towels. Although we have never had to charge someone for damages, you will be required to sign a paper stating that you agree to these charges in advance. In the event this is ever necessary, we will provide photographs of the damages. PLEASE help us remain a pet friendly resort and just let us know if your pet had a bad day and accidentally chewed the towel or corner of the rug. We ask only that you reimburse us for the cost of the damaged item.

Even if your pet typically doesn't jump on the furniture, PLEASE bring thick blankets to cover the furniture with anyway! This goes a long way to helping the cleaning people get all the dog hair up before the next guests arrive. Thanks!

All guests MUST check in at our ice cream and gift shop Garden of the God's outpost at 281 Karber's ridge road. Once checked in you will be given your door code, wifi password, local information and a map to the cabin you are staying at. Currently the Outpost is open Monday-Thursday 10a-6p and Friday-Sunday 10a-8p , if you'll be arriving after hours please call the Outpost at 618-264-9091 to arrange after hours check in.

The Outpost serves as a sort of home base for all our guests with supplies, gifts, ice cream, to go food, t-shirts and more.

This single family, 3 bedroom, 2 bath home is located just minutes from the famous Garden of the Gods in southern Illinois. The home was completely remodeled summer of 2019 and easily accommodates 8 people. There is a large full size kitchen with full size appliances, laundry room with washer and dryer. The living room has a 55" HD TV with Dish TV that includes 250 channels. We also offer free fiber-optic WiFi internet (50mps). We supply complimentary coffee, coffee filters, cream, sugar packets, salt, pepper, hand soap, dish soap, laundry pods, dishwasher pods, toilet paper, paper towels, firewood and camp chairs and of course, FREE WiFi.

Prairie house is located minutes away from Garden of the Gods, Pounds Hollow Lake, Rim Rock Recreational area, Cave in Rock at the heart of the Illinois Ozarks.

We are pet friendly and do not charge extra for your pets. Although this home sits on 60 private acres, the owners do live on the back side of this property and ask that you respect their privacy. Guests are welcome to walk around the front of this property but are asked to not go beyond the pond. You are welcome to pet the horses if they come up to the fence but guests may not enter the pasture with the horses at any time. This property does boarder thousands of acres of Shawnee National Forest and is only a 1/4 mile off the River to River trail.

Please note, you must include an accurate number of people with your reservation request , regardless of how many nights each person is staying. We do count children as well.

We have been in the vacation rental business for 11 years and live on the back of this 60 acre parcel. We are always available by phone or text to our guests if needed.

We charge a $100 security deposit at time of check in that is fully refundable after check out as long as the house and hot tub are in good condition. If we have to drain the hot tub, we will keep the security deposit.

The unit is guaranteed to be ready by 4pm. If you plan to arrive early, you MUST CALL us in advance. We will make arrangements to get you in as soon as it is cleaned and ready for you.

Everything here is on a hill with lots of rocks. If it's raining or recently rained you may find mud. Expect to see & hear nature all around you. This is a working farm so you may hear & see us or hear any of the neighboring farm properties. We are on property and also have exterior cameras throughout the 40 acre property. No Fence around pool! You accept responsibility for yourself & other guests.

3 night minimum on weekends or holidays and 2 night weekdays *the app keeps reverting minimum nights back to 2 nights in error. we will only honor bookings with our minimum night policy followed.

This 3 Bedroom is just a short drive to the wonderful Shawnee National Forest. The Master bedroom has a king bed with the second bedroom off of the Master with a small twin bed for extra guests or children who like to be close to the parents. The third bedroom has two full beds. All beds are very comfortable memory foam mattresses.
Enjoy all the sites such as the Garden of the Gods, Bell Smith Springs, Pounds Hollow, and much more. We are a 2 minute drive from the Shawnee National Forest headquarters as well, where you can find everything you need to know about all the things to see and do.
There are also several State parks in the area as well a wine trail a State bike trail of over 50 miles.
We are also located within Walking distance to the Hospital and Golf Course.
The neighborhood is very quiet and close to all the Grocery stores Restaurants and bars for the nights after your daily adventures.
The house is very spacious with an unbelievable selection of books available for guest use. We encourage our guest to read anything on the shelves. We also allow guest to swap out books we just ask if you take one leave one so others can enjoy them.

Upon arrival, you'll pull up to the fully handicap accessible drive-through covered entrance. Entering the home, you'll be welcomed by the open concept living with an abundance of natural light pouring in from the wall-to-wall windows. Centered in the home, the floor to ceiling stone covered see-through fireplace welcomes you with the invitation to grab a blanket and cozy on in. Surrounding the fireplace, you'll find a coat closet, dining area, additional sitting area, living room with a flat screen T.V large pantry with lots of storage, and the fully stocked kitchen with stainless steel commercial appliances including: two convection ovens, 6-burner gas range, microwave, ice-machine, double dishwasher, fridge and freezer.

Exiting through the kitchen and living area off the back of the home, the fully furnished screened in porch invites you to dine outside at the large dining table, relax by the fireplace in the comfy outdoor sitting area, or sway on the bed swing as you take in the scenery across the lake spread out in front of you. In addition, the deck wraps around to another outdoor dining area set next to the pergola covered grilling station. Situated across the hall from the office/den, the spacious Primary Bedroom offers a king size bed, bed side tables with lamps, sitting area, black out curtains, custom built-in shelves with a flat screen TV, walk in closet, full bath with a walk-in shower, soaking tub, two sinks and private toilet stall. In addition, this bedroom also offers private access to the screened in porch where the bed swing resides.

On the opposite side of the home, as you walk down the hall, passing by the guest bathroom, you will find the additional three bedrooms. The first two bedrooms situated across the hall from each other both are furnished with king size beds, bed side tables with lamps, walk-in closets, black out curtains and private bathrooms with walk in showers. One of these king suites also has private access to the wrap around deck. The bunkroom found at the rear of the home sleeps a total of six people between the two queen beds and two twin beds, has blackout curtains, a walk-in closet and a private bathroom with a walk-in shower.

Across from the bunkroom, there is a laundry/mud room with a full-size washer and dryer, laundry wash tub and locker cubbies for your outdoor wear.

At the end of the hallway situated between the laundry and bunkroom is the side entrance of the home leading to the grilling deck.

The communication with the property manager was great and Charli was very responsive and took care of us well especially when the area of was under tornado warning. One thing to note is the cell phone signals are completely cut off in this area but the house has a great fiber optics internet and so we were still connected to outside world. If you want to good privacy and a rural setting then this is a perfect location in Shawnee area."

Hi! Our home is pet friendly with a one time pet fee of $50.00. Our cozy home is located in the heart of Harrisburg, which is know as the "Gateway to the Shawnee National Forest." The home is within walking distance of some very nice downtown shops and restaurants. The Tunnel Hill Bike Path is only one block away, and the beautiful Garden of the Gods is a scenic 22 mile drive away. Come put your feet up on our screened in porch and watch the squirrels play!
The space:
This home is over 100 years old. You can expect high ceilings, and original wood accents. It is very cozy and welcoming to families. With an older home, please also expect old pipes and things like that.
Guest access:
Local restaurants and shops can easily be reached on foot. There is a bike path only a block away. Grocery and other stores having anything you may need are only a short drive away.

We also have so Many State parks Sahara Woods SRA, Saline County State Fish and Wildlife Area, and of Course Cave in Rock state park. Also if Biking is your thing the Tunnel Hill state bike trail is one block from our home. Harrisburg is also located in one of the best Whitetail deer hunting areas in the country.
Bottom line is if recreational adventure is what you seek look no further. We offer a very clean comfortable roomy home at reasonable price. Approximately twelve miles south of the closest town and about eight miles from Garden of the Gods and other hiking recreational sites. The home is roomy and cozy. It is large enough for a couple of families or just to let your own family members have their own space. It is a great place to relax, grill out, or just do some porch sitting. Or if you want to take in some sights, you aren’t far from Garden of the Gods, Bell Smith Springs, Burden Falls, Rim Rock or Pounds Hollow. This area is also very horse friendly and this home is not far from several trails and horse campgrounds such as Double M, High Knob, Little Lusk, and Bear Branch Campgrounds. It is also about two miles from Williams Hill Pass that supports four wheeling and dirt biking trails and about four miles from the River to River Trail. So if you want to do a lot of nothing or lots of everything, it is a great location. You most likely will see some wildlife daily whether it is deer, birds, foxes, turkeys, etc in the spacious yard or fields. The home has everything you should need for your stay and is very clean and neat and private. It boasts a full kitchen that is fully stocked. The large front and back yard allows plenty of room for you or your kiddos to walk or run. The back of the property meets a running creek in the woods. Very nice home in the country. You won’t be disappointed

All pets are required to be current on shots and must be protected with Flea and Tick medicine BEFORE you arrive. If you forget, we do have some for sale in the Outpost. All pets must be crated if left unattended in the units. No exceptions please! For your convenience, we do rent crates of all sizes for $8 per visit (not per night) but it is BYOB (Bring Your Own Blanket). Please call us in advance if you will need a crate in your unit. Please note, we will automatically charge your credit card for any damages done to the units, furnishings, linens or towels. Although we have never had to charge someone for damages, you will be required to sign a paper stating that you agree to these charges in advance. In the event this is ever necessary, we will provide photographs of the damages. PLEASE help us remain a pet friendly resort and just let us know if your pet had a bad day and accidentally chewed the towel or corner of the rug. We ask only that you reimburse us for the cost of the damaged item.

Even if your pet typically doesn't jump on the furniture, PLEASE bring thick blankets to cover the furniture with anyway! This goes a long way to helping the cleaning people get all the dog hair up before the next guests arrive. Thanks!

All guests MUST check in at our ice cream and gift shop Garden of the God's outpost at 281 Karber's ridge road. Once checked in you will be given your door code, wifi password, local information and a map to the cabin you are staying at. Currently the Outpost is open Monday-Thursday 10a-6p and Friday-Sunday 10a-8p , if you'll be arriving after hours please call the Outpost at 618-264-9091 to arrange after hours check in.

The Outpost serves as a sort of home base for all our guests with supplies, gifts, ice cream, to go food, t-shirts and more.

Wonderful setting up in a tree." - "Booking was incredibly easy, the pictures were accurate (and even more beautiful and cozy in real life), we really got even more than we expected!! I took my 10 year old daughter and her best friend for a little mother, daughter, and bestie getaway in nature and we had a BLAST!! Check in at the outpost was very easy, location is fabulous and easy for the outpost as well as our treehouse rental. Directions off the website we’re absolutely SO spot on and easy to follow, I was so thankful! Payton at the Outpost was so kind and talked through hike routes with us, recommended things we might enjoy in the area…we also loved the Wi-Fi in the treehouse!! After spending lots of time hiking and playing outside, coming back to relax and still being able to enjoy some tv or the kids playing some games on their devices upstairs in the loft was truly just the best. The kids LOVED the loft, we brought our own food- easy to stock the fridge, microwave fabulous for reheating, and the outpost had many great things we could have bought even if we hadn’t come with our meals planned. We also stopped by the outpost every day for ice cream :-) it was a must and so perfect after hikes!! We loved everything. Cabin was very clean, the futon couch was very comfortable also (where I slept). The only thing the kids wished we also would have found was the smiley face swing :-) lol. Elizabeth was fabulous too- we had a snafu in the code to get in initially so I called her and she answered immediately and helped us get right in. I have zero complaints and nothing but wonderful things to say about the property, the process, and Elizabeth. They had even left fresh flowers on the table to welcome us! It was such a thoughtful touch and you could really feel the love and welcoming energy and that they really want everyone to enjoy their stay. It meant so much to us. Thank you so much for such a wonderful spot for us to make lifelong amazing memories- we are absolutely hoping to be back again!"
