It sits under a giant oak tree and provides a complete escape from the the hustle and bustle of modern living. Ballintubbert House is a truly hidden gem. Nestled near the quiet hills of Stradbally - it a most peaceful retreat for friends and family. First built in 1725 Ballintubbert House comes with 14 acres of gardens and grounds that have been kept and lovingly cultivated over the years.

A panoramic mirror lake, the apple orchard, intimate gardens and wonderful sunsets coming in from across the hills; it is a space apart. The House itself is carefully decorated for ease and comfort with an elegant character. It has five double bedrooms, two drawing rooms, a beautiful kitchen adjoined by the breakfast/dining room. Further acccommodation is available on the property in our Garden Wing.

Close by are the towns of Athy, Stradbally and Portlaoise. Athy has the River Barrow and the Grand Canal running through it, as well as a number of local shops and pubs (we particularly recommend O Briens). With less bustle than the market town, Stradbally also has some excellent pubs and is equidistant from Ballintubbert. Portlaoise, a larger town, is just a little further beyond.

Local attractions are aplenty - Strabdbally Woods for walk, Dunamaise Rock or Emo Court for an exploration, drive the original Gordon Bennet route (but observe speeds restrictions please), visit the charming Burtown Gardens and their Green Door Restaurant. There are other gardens in Co. Laois and, nestled in the heart of the midlands, nothing is too far away.

While Dublin is only a little over an hour away, Ballintubbert is a beautiful place to be in and you will not want to leave.

The location is very good. Surrounded by other similar houses, walking distance to the town which is nice and has everything you may want. The train station is also very close, takes about 75min to Dublin and it is at the heart of every major attraction in Portlaoise.

beautifully decorated house. House is always kept clean, spacious, tv (Netflix, freeview, Amazon Prime) in the guest room. The bathroom is not ensuite but you will have private use of the bathroom and toilet.

The Gate lodge at Emo Court is a beautiful old stone cottage at the old gates to Emo Court, it is surrounded by woodland walks. A minute walk to the centre of Emo village where there is a shop/post office/country pub/Italian restaurant and church. Free entry to Emo Court gardens and lake walk . You can take a tour ( small fee)of this historic property . CaToCa Fine food and giftware is also at Emo Court where you can enjoy there award winning tea rooms open daily 10am to 6pm and Giftshop.

The space
The Gate Lodge is in a great location 1 hours from Dublin City center/Dublin air port . A 10 min drive to Portlaois 20 mins drive to Kildare Village ( shopping outlet) 25 min drive to Newbridge and the Curragh race course . The sleeve bloom mountains with it hiking and cycling track and Glenbarrow water falls are just 20 mins away by car. The Gate lodge has and entrance hall which leads into a comfortable siting room followed by the bed room with a king size bed wooden shutters on windows onset shower room ( wet room) toilet and hand sink. The Kitchen is to the back of the property over looking the back garden and patio . It has retro electric hob , microwave , toaster, kettle , iron and board, crockery & cutlery , pots and pans , table for 4 , dresser , fridge freezer. The patio has table and chairs if you like to dine out side , or just chill with a glass of wine.

In the gate loge we have power pay installed and we give credit of 15 euro per day with a 5 euro emergency credit should you require more electric then there is instructions by the panel in front hall way of how you can purchase credit and top up.
