- "Need more vegetarian items on the lunch and dinner menus, but otherwise, great!" - "Our stay was splendid! Check-in process was very smooth despite super late time (over 12am). All personnel was so kind and friendly! They always accommodate all our requests and needs during our stay without a flaw. Place itself is gorgous and relaxing. We always saw families of deers. Horseback riding is great as well. Scheduling time is 10am and 3pm. Our group had absolute beginners and people who were grown up with horses. Our ride was very smooth and relaxing. There are many little hikes around. But we'd chosen to drive 1 hour to Maple loop hike (stunning views!), Ross lake , and Diablo lake with emerald, teal color--unbelievable! Regarding, COVID, all people on hikes and in the lodge were in masks. Dining is fully available for ordering and picking up. Very pleasant trip and stay. We hope to come back."

Whether you're seeking adventure or tranquility, this cabin is your perfect escape into nature!
Special Advisory Notices:
We hope you will enjoy the peace of the forest and the cozy simplicity of the space. The cabin is designed to transport guests to a simpler time, bathed in the beauty of the forest. But this is a truly a rustic cabin which may be a new experience for some. It was built by hand 50 years ago from trees milled on the property, and the exterior siding and interior walls are made from inch-thick, rough-cut Douglas Fir boards, which may cause splinters :). The first-floor construction features half walls built from river rocks.
- The cabin is located 12 miles upriver from the town of Twisp. You will likely want to stop for supplies before you reach to the cabin.
- The cabin is situated at a mountainous elevation and generally receives snow between October and April. A 4x4 or AWD vehicle is recommended in the winter.
- A wood stove is the only heat source in the cabin. You should be comfortable starting and maintaining a fire. There is plenty of wood in the woodshed adjacent to the cabin. If you want instruction on using the woodstove, please ask. We are happy to help!
- The kitchen has cold well water only. A kettle must be used for hot water.
- The Bath House is located 40 feet from the cabin and has a toilet and shower. The bathhouse heated with on demand hot water.
- Outdoor fires are permitted in designated areas and only outside of County burn ban periods.
- The sweat lodge "pit house" is closed for repairs and entrance is not permitted.
- The trail down to the river and the stairs to the deck and in the cabin are steep and may not be easily navigable by people with injuries or the physically infirm. The interior stairs are without backing and not appropriate for small children. Infants and young toddlers should be kept away from the woodstove, woodstove pipes, and the vertical log railing on the upper level of the cabin.
- The property may be visited by any of the animals that inhabit the North Cascades. So please put food and trash away and keep a clean "camp."
- If at anytime during your stay you have questions, need something, or want suggestions for things to do, please don't hesitate to ask! We want your stay with friends and loved ones to be memorable!
- "Great little cabin in the woods. All set up for basic needs. Peacefull and quiet. " - "The property is secluded and peaceful. The cabin was exactly what we were looking for…free of distractions. Great cooking appliances and a well stocked kitchen. Nice wood stove and well stocked with firewood. Bathhouse is well built and is fully heated. Firepit was 6 foot diameter and has a place for cooking dinner if you want…and we did. The five whitetail deer that visited twice daily was the icing…thanks again!!"

George's River House(a legal, licensed nightly rental with a current Okanogan County health permit as required by law)is, as much, a house as a work of industrial art.
The house is built around a large concrete water-way, which was originally part of the Winthrop water supply. That bunker is now the floor of an upper bedroom, as well as the walls of the living room and a second bedroom on the main floor. It is a hand-built, and handmade riverfront pleasure.
Located about 1/3 mile downstream of downtown Winthrop and its iconic old west boardwalk.... it is close, yet private. This is a "one of a kind experience" not to be passed over.
The bedrooms have queen beds, with additional sleeping on a twin/full bunk bed. The main-floor master has it's own bath, and outside entrance overlooking the river. Full kitchen, internet, unique wood stove, heated floors, patio with picnic table and small propane grill.

- "We were appreciative of the comfortable and artistic space that allowed the sound of the river below into our bedrooms . We were greeted by three deer that gently walked through this property down to the lower picnic area. The outdoor space made us feel secluded and yet we loved that we could walk to the town of Winthrop. Thank you for allowing us the stay" - "Walked through the gate and said "WOW." Pictures dont do it justice. Unique, comfortable, cozy, bright and airy with beautiful view of the river.plenty of outside seating areas. Beds were extremely comfy. Highly recommend Highway 20 Pizza just outside house. Spent Saturday morning at Twisp farmers market and then had fabulous breakfast at Cinnamon Twisp. Spent rest of the day shopping in Winthrop. Lots of cute stores and restaurants. Wanted to go across the street from house to barn cinema but just ran out of time. It was a PERFECT trip. We will be back and would love to stay in your house again. Thank you"

- "Just right for 2 people. Away from town but not too far away. Quiet and peaceful in a lovely setting." - "Wonderful little cabin in a remote setting. It’s been awhile since I had such a great view of the stars in the dark night sky." - "The studio is in a beautiful rustic resort. Great place for couples and families. The room is very clean and comfortable." - "Exactly what I wanted and hard to tear myself away today! So peaceful and serene. The private balcony with the view and trees was so perfect. Easy to communicate with. Loved the hot tub after hiking 12 miles yesterday. Slept incredible. Will only stay here when I visit the cascades! It’s off the beaten path but that was what I loved the most. It’s quick to get into town and head up into the cascades. The suite did have everything needed, coffee, filter, blow dryer, etc. that you’d expect. The room itself is so cozy and inviting. Thank you for a great stay!"

Only 35 minutes to Washington Pass Overlook in the North Cascades National Park!
- "Beautiful property conveniently located close to town. Beautifully decorated, comfortable beds, and nicely equipped kitchen. Quiet neighborhood." - "We loved our stay at the Winthrop Basecamp. The house is new construction, very cute, and nicely put together. It was one of the cleanest properties I've ever stayed in, thoughtfully outfitted for guests, even down to fancily-folded towels. The house is an easy, pleasant walk (maybe 10 minutes) along a non-motorized path and bridge to downtown Winthrop, and conveniently located for other activities in the region. Your front door is literally 20 feet from the path, which, I believe, is groomed for nordic skiing and fatbiking in winter The owner was responsive and pleasant to communicate with, and we had no issues during our stay at the property. We'd be thrilled to come back and stay again."

- "This is by far the most well-equipped rental that I have ever stayed in, and the items were well laid out. This is a beautiful property and very secluded. I didn’t see a person all week unless I went to town. The 4/5 on check-in should probably be a 4.5/5, I missed the note on using instructions sent so I was using GPS. But the support team was onsite in ten minutes after being engaged and they were super helpful and very friendly. I only have three very small notes: because I’m a project manager with an engineering brain. The fan in the master clicks, so probably just needs some screws tightened. The batteries in the TV remote died so some spare AA and AAA batteries would have been great. A heads up about the mosquitoes or maybe even spray/lotion/roll-on would have been nice. Like I say, small things so I highly recommend this place."

There's a rule here at the Dog Cabin, and we're serious: you must bring your dog.
Don’t leave them bored at home and don’t you dare send them to a kennel. Just think about all their hard work every day: standing guard at the window for deliveries, power naps, all that playing and cuddling and following you around from room to room. It’s exhausting! The Methow Dog Cabin is a place for them to relax and unwind, accompanied by their favorite humans. No maximum number of dogs, weight limit, or breed limitations. Time to let Max take you on a vacation.(Of course non dog owners are welcome too:)
Now that THAT'S out of the way, let’s talk about this enchanting 2-bedroom cabin in the woods. It was originally built in Winthrop and used as a small schoolhouse before being transported to this idyllic forty-acre farm in the Mazama corridor. Relax in a peaceful, pastoral setting with historic barns and sweeping fields just out the windows. The main floor features a hand-built stone propane fireplace and is a cozy spot to chat with family and friends (and the dog!) There are two complete living room gathering areas, a rustic front porch that looks out over the acres of open fields, as well as an enclosed deck—perfect for your fur babies to lounge in the sun off-leash.
There are two spacious upstairs bedrooms, one with a queen bed, and the second with a queen and two twin beds, along with a desk. Downstairs there is also a leather fold-out sleeper for an extra guest. The full kitchen is well stocked with pots and pans, plateware, bartending tools and stemware. The bathroom has a walk in shower. Shampoo/conditioner/body wash and hair dryer are provided.
The Methow Valley boasts the largest Nordic ski area in North America, and the trail is just a ¼ mile walk away. Whether it’s the legendary October larch hikes in the northern cascades, the 120 miles of cross-country ski and bike trails, or the rustic nostalgia of the delightful western-themed town of nearby Winthrop, the Methow Valley is becoming one of the most sought-after recreation destinations in Washington, and the Methow Dog Cabin is a gateway to it all. The property features plenty of space to walk the dog, and even backs up to the national forest.

- "My 1st trip to mountains of Washington & No Cascades was a dream. Our stay in this rental far exceeded expections. Very well stocked with spices, coffees & kitchen stuff. Close to stores & towns (Mazma & the ‘old west’ town of Winthrop). Great launching point for hiking & doing overlooks & even kayaking (Silverline Lakeside Resort). I had erred in booking our dates by 1 day. Owners were so reasonable & understanding in extending our stay while we were there. Definitely would book again!"

Our unit was comfortable and clean. Very conveniently located to downtown Winthrop . The kitchen was well-equipped although I would prefer an actual coffee machine as opposed to the drip/thermos method provided. It was a great place to stay with dogs. Be aware that tv is streaming only. We didn’t have our id or passwords so felt frustrated not having tv access.. also it would be helpful to have reading lights in the bedroom and couch in the living room.."

- "My spouse, her brother, and I stayed at Balsam for three nights, and we enjoyed it immensely. The property was accurately described, the beds were comfortable, and everything worked really well. The wi-fi was pretty fast, which was an improvement over many other properties at which we stayed. The A/C is a ductless heat pump that kept the main living area very comfortable in 100 degree heat. We set up the fan that was provided to blow cool air into the bedroom furthest away, and it worked well. The main bathroom was pretty awesome, with both a soaking tub and a shower. The kitchen was well-supplied with cookware. We appreciated the easy access to a walking trail that allowed us to get to downtown Winthrop in about 15 minutes, and to get to the Thriftway in about 10 minutes (and I'm a slow walker). We've stayed in Winthrop several times, and I think that this is the nicest place in which we've stayed. I would recommend it."

- "We liked this place a lot. Well kept and clean. A little confusing upon arrival. There is an adjoining suite attached to it. The doors were open so both of the suites were open. The ad for our suite only mentioned the beds / bath on our side, but also says you get the entire floor. We just locked the adjoining door and stayed to the one side."

- "We've stayed at the Bend in the River cabin before, but have never used the 2-bedroom lodge option. We were happy to find this option was just as comfortable and easy to use! The huge basement with laundry, ping pong, and cozy beanbag chairs was perfect for our teenage son, and the kitchen was equipped for everything we needed. We also appreciated how streamlined the check-in and checkout processes were, and the convenient location of the property between Winthrop and the Rendezvous skiing trails."

The Tee Pee as well.
- If at any time during your stay you have questions, need something, or want suggestions for things to do, please don't hesitate to ask! We want your stay with friends and loved ones to be memorable!
- This is a rustic cabin. We love it! There is something to be said for having just the basics and solitude.
We try our best to keep little critters out of the cabin walls. But they do manage to get in. You may hear tiny paws at night from the late night mouse.
Guest access
The acreage is free to roam. Please be aware that this property is remote and rustic. We do have structures on the property that should be entered at your own risk. The Tee Pee was designed for primitive skills and has seen better days. Enter at your own risk. The sweat lodge (pit house) was wonderful but is past its prime. Feel free to take a peak inside. But do so at your own risk.
