The Nellie Donagan House was built in 1912 and enlarged in 1978. It is thoroughly modern on the inside yet retains its last-century charm. The cottage is on a dead-end gravel road and is surrounded by grasslands or cedars on three sides. From the spacious front deck guests can sit under a shady umbrella and watch the deer graze in the undeveloped fields and wetlands while hummingbirds buzz close and red winged blackbirds sing their musical song.
The kitchen is modern and fully stocked with culinary appliances, more of which are stored in the spacious pantry. The pantry has a washer and dryer, a utility sink, and can act as a mudroom with access to the house from the back yard.
The dining room seats 6 comfortably and has a large picture window with a view of the fields. The living room has comfortable furniture and a bay window, which looks out through a stained glass panel to one of the gardens. A TV screen is available for streaming.
The office has a desk and table and provides a quiet, private place to catch up on business or keep current while on vacation. There is high-speed, 100Mbps internet for streaming movies, video calling and lightning fast browsing. We have a monitor and a printer in the office. There is also a twin bed.
The master bedroom has a queen bed and dressing area with a dresser and ample double closets. The master bath has a shower. A private, enclosed deck is accessed from the master bedroom and has a door to the backyard. The other bedroom has a queen bed, a dresser and a closet. The hall bath has a bathtub. A third, twin bed is in the office.
A charming gazebo and the outbuilding we call The Dollhouse are both off-limits to guests at this time.
There is a fenced garden and ample parking. The overall feeling is of comfortable country living and serenity. The grounds are mostly open to the deer who frequent the back yard especially, and many birds flock to the feeders in the front. We hear frogs and sometimes coyotes at night, and find it lovely and relaxing.
The Neighborhood of North Beach is charming, quirky, and full of walking paths through woods and between streets. North Beach and Chinese Gardens are a 12 minute walk away and the many trails through Fort Worden are just beyond that. The Fairgrounds are across the fields to the south, and Port Townsend’s Historic Seaport District is a 10 minute ride by car or just a little longer by bicycle. The night sky as you walk to North Beach at night is spectacular!
It's an expansive, peaceful setting with everything you might want to make your visit special.
This house is our home, which we have rented out for several years while we are away sailing during the summer. We've had great experiences with guests, and trust that you will treat our home with care, as much of the decor has great sentimental value.
We are required by the City of Port Townsend to rent in blocks of no less than 29 nights, which keeps the neighborhood genuine and serene. When you rent the Nellie Donagan Cottage, you'll be a North Beach Resident. As our gift to you, we'll have a housekeeper come in during the middle of your stay to do light housekeeping. Mowing the lawns is also included.
Please, no smoking inside and no pets.
Do you want to attend the Wooden Boat Festival in September? Contact me for possibilities.
- "We were happy to spend another early summer month at Nellie Donagan House, surrounded by meadows full of songbirds and near to walking trails on 3 sides. The home is comfortable and well-supported by the thoughtful owners and local house and garden staff. For us, the sunny deck and peaceful surroundings are deeply relaxing." - "Nellie Donegan House is a beautifully kept home on the edge of the North Beach neighborhood. The meadows on three sides afford quiet, privacy and a host of birds and local wild life. It is a short walk to endless trails as well as the beach and Fort Worden. It provides lovely space, inside and out for a couple and few friends or a small family. And as someone who has rented properties for many years, I've never encountered such thoughtful owners."

Weekends are fully booked for months ahead. They were just emerging from COVID and were short staffed especially in the restaurant (cut them some slack). - "One of the best experiences in the PNW!" - "Really enjoy this place, very clean, very friendly and safe. They think of everything. Highly recommend. The only thing i would say is that if you value quiet, get a standalone house rather than half a duplex, walls very thin, you can hear a spoon in a mug in the other side of the house. There was even a deer in the front yard to greet us when we arrived. We'll definitely be back!" - "The 1-bedroom apartment is located in the lower section of the owner's raised ranch. The apartment has its own entrance, patio, and parking area. The apartment is nicely designed with ample space, and the kitchen is fuuly equipped with a stove, microwave, full-sized fridge, toaster and Keurig coffee maker (no dishwasher). The bed was very comfortable, and the linens (both towels and sheets) were top notch. I really appreciated that the linens were white, and washed in hot (140 degree) water. Everything was in good repair, and sweet touches were everywhere - a bottle of wine, bakery fresh muffins, orange juice, K-cups with creamer and a selection of tea bags. It was very evident that Chris and Teresa take a lot of pride in their rental. My husband and i really enjoyed the peaceful neighborhood (no AC units buzzing or dogs barking!). We found the deer wandering the neighborhood to be very charming. We did walk to a small park down the hill. We also drove to North Park and hiked the 1-1/2 miles to Glass Beach. Port Townsend is a lovely town, and Chris and Teresa's apartment make it very easy to explore. As a side note, remember to make reservations well in advance if you plan to catch the Coupeville ferry!"

Welcome to a perfect place to get away from the busyness and relax! This cozy home has two bedrooms (each with a queen bed and one with an additional twin), one bathroom, a nice sized kitchen with dining area, and roomy living room.
Off the kitchen is a double sliding door that opens to a large deck overlooking the bay, with a propane grill (May-Sept).
Down a flight of stairs, you will discover a peaceful 12x12 deck where you can enjoy a cup of coffee in the morning or lunch on the picnic table. Down another flight of stairs will bring you to our fire-pit just a few steps from the beach where you can read a book or take long walk down the beach in either direction.
At the far end is a county park and with the proper permits you can clam, fish and crab. Our view contains amazing sunrises, graceful eagles, seasonal seals, loons, osprey, occasional boat traffic and constant beauty. We are nestled from the weather in a quiet bay off the Puget sound.
The house is stocked with games, puzzles, a few books, a TV in the living room, and WiFi for your devices. We hope you can come to enjoy a book, a s'more, a walk at low tide to see what lies under rocks, a game with loved ones and let stress melt away.
There is an great restaurant (Ajax Café), 24-hour QFC, bagel shop, coffee and hardware store (for all your fishing needs) 5 minutes away. We are on the Olympic Peninsula so day trips to explore the mountains, pacific coast or rain forest are ideal. This is an early 1900s waterfront farmhouse with lots of character and vintage charm. The glassed in-front porch allows you to kick back and enjoy the picturesque views of Mystery Bay in any weather. We have fast wifi and a blue-ray player. Three wonderful parks close by, two within one mile. We are 16 miles from the beautiful seaport city of Port Townsend, known for music, dining, art galleries, parks, etc. We are about 20 minutes to Port Ludlow and around 40 minutes to 7 cedars casino in Sequim.
The house has two bedrooms in the main house with queen beds. The third bedroom is a converted utility room that is separated from the main house by the entry hall. It has a twin-size bed and a private 1/4 bath.
The kitchen comes stocked with hopefully everything you might need to cook with, both a drip coffee maker and an espresso maker. I keep coffee, sugar, and dry creamer stocked. Fort Flagler state park is about 2 1/2 miles away and East Beach and Mystery Bay State Park are less than a mile. East Beach Park does not require a pass and is one of the nicest beaches around for walking and for kids to play in the sand. We are kid friendly and have a scavenger hunt with a small prize at the end.
Olympic Kayak Rentals is located at Fort Flagler. They offer guided tours and offer kayak rentals for those that want to be off on their own. You need to check out their website to get more information.
Marrowstone Winery has live music, and often food trucks on weekends during the Summer months. There are some picnic tables, and chairs if you get there early. Plenty of room for kids to play or to put out a blanket, kick back and enjoy the tunes. They have a variety of wines and nonalcoholic drinks to choose from.
- "Cozy property with plenty of space for you and your guests. It was a quiet, beautiful spot to spend the weekend and easy driving distance to Port Townsend and numerous state and county parks." - "This is an old farmhouse with lots of charm. Deb & Dave make sure you are comfortable with a fully stocked kitchen and Wi-Fi setup and cell phone charging cords. The house is clean with plenty of fresh linens and towels. Our group had a great time. The front of the house showed waterfront views from every window and the backyard was lovely in the evening to eat, drink and be merry. My only suggestion is to have a more secure back door and lock; otherwise, it was lovely."

Escape in style to the incredible natural beauty and tranquility of the Olympic Peninsula at the Wild Oyster Lodge. This expansive log home, set on high-bank water-front and surrounded by towering pines, provides sweeping views of Hood Canal from its large deck and oversized chef's kitchen. You will enjoy the rugged beauty of the sea and woods from the comfort of this well-appointed, contemporary home with elevated décor and furnishings. It's a perfect jumping off point to explore the Olympic Peninsula.
Wild Oyster Lodge sits on Dabob Bay, a secluded bay on the north Hood Canal, surrounded by protected wilderness and a quarter-mile down the beach from one of Taylor Shellfish's oyster farms. Eagles and seals are your neighbors and the rocky beach (accessible by a long set of stairs, which is quite steep) abounds with fresh oysters. The home is located 15 minutes from Olympic National Park (with Mt. Walker and Canyon Falls trailheads nearby), and the quaint town of Quilcene 10 minutes away. Get out on the pristine waters of Dabob Bay with a pair of kayaks, explore the coastline or make the round trip to nearby Dabob Broad Spit, a boat-access only state park nearby with an incredible 3 story driftwood fort built by campers over decades.
The home has two large bedrooms, a sleeping loft, and bonus room with daybed to provide a comfortable stay for two families or a few groups of friends. The large sunroom and living room provide plenty of space to relax, play games or cozy up near the gas fireplace. One of the highlights of this getaway is the large professional kitchen, with seating for 8, and a granite island for breakfast, oysters or wine tasting. If you prefer outdoor cooking, there is also a Weber gas grill ready for you. Fiber Internet was recently installed, providing super fast speeds to allow for video calls and streaming movies.
Although its seclusion is one of its most unique features, this place may not be for everyone. It's a great place to connect and kick back, but it is intentionally TV- less. The nearby town of Quilcene only offers a few spots to eat and a small but well-supplied market(Quilcene Village Store), so it's recommended to pack groceries before you arrive and take advantage of the indoor/outdoor cooking and dining spaces at The Wild Oyster. The home has 2 outdoor security cameras, a doorbell camera on the front door and a camera monitoring the upper driveway.
- "Spacious and lovely home. Property is secluded, has a water view and beach access. We spent quite a lot of time on the beach, and hardly saw another person. Large windows throughout the house let in natural light, as well as displaying the views. A bald eagle flew by right at eye level when we were in the sunroom and porch area. The kitchen is huge, and there are vaulted ceilings there and in the main living area. The kids loved the fancy bathroom sinks and the extra features like the tent teepee and games and toys. The hot tub was nice for relaxing in the evenings. If you're looking for a place that is quiet and to disconnect, look no further."

Robin’s Nest is expressly designed to be casually relaxed and personable. It is infused with sprightly color and eclectically furnished with family heirlooms to blend a touch of nostalgia with contemporary comfort and convenience. The home was built in 2006 and renovated in 2017 to ensure our guests have a completely enjoyable experience.
Guest access
Two guest studios are all located on the second floor. Common areas open to all are the front gardens where guests are invited to relax and enjoy tumultuous flowering blooms. The main floor is my private residence.
Other things to note
Amenities include individual room temperature control, bedside reading lamps, sound buffering shades, black out curtains, USB outlet for additional electronics, emergency flashlight, extra pillows and blankets.
Late-night owls and early birds staying at the Nest should all be able to get the rest they need. Quiet hours are from 9:30 pm to 7:00 am.
We are an eco-friendly business. We renovated the building using bamboo flooring and low VOC paints. Old appliances were replaced with new energy-efficient models. We use compact fluorescent bulbs in most light fixtures. Thermal insulated shades and blackout curtains are on all bedroom windows. We try, with our guests’ assistance, to keep laundry to a minimum and we use biodegradable cleaners. We do not use pesticides in our gardens or anywhere on the property. Our goal is to set a high standard of service, while impacting the earth as little as possible.

Dove’s Perch is an efficiency studio situated in the southwest corner of the property and often drenched in the warm glow of morning sun. Furnished with family antiques and mementos, it makes for a sweet and cozy home away from home. The bedroom is wrapped in soothing lavender color, and along with a comfy queen bed promotes a wonderfully restful night’s sleep. The sitting room is a separate space with armchairs for reading, a hostess bar (with small fridge, microwave, coffee maker and dishware), and a dining table for two.
Dove's Perch is one of two units in Robin’s Nest Boarding House, which is just five minutes from the heart of Port Townsend. Infused with color, the style integrates the casual elegance of the past with the contemporary comfort of the present. This is the perfect place for travelers who are looking for a modestly priced, spotlessly clean and restful place to lodge.
We are located on top of Castle Hill, near the century old and reportedly haunted Manresa Castle. It's a short walk to see some wonderful views of the Port Townsend's historical skyline. Uptown and downtown are both 1.7 miles east and Fort Worden is just 2 miles to the north. The total radius of Port Townsend is a little over 9 miles, so everything is close by.

Would definitely stay here again." - "We stayed here for a week and it was quiet and comfortable. I appreciated how clean it was! Communication with our host was simple and sweet. Easy to reach via text/call/email. My only wish is that I could bring my well behaved dogs here for a stay in the future... 2 bedroom on cul de sac, Walk to state park and beaches. Fireplace, outdoor seating. Modern kitchen. From the woodsy, large yard, a public path network begins. 5 minute walk to Fort Worden State Park . 3/4 mile to shopping, coop, restaurants. Bike paths. TV's in main room and one bedroom . Very quiet, good wifi & all utilities included. Firewood and summerhouse bedrooms with 2 twin beds negotiable.
- "The photos matched the space and the hosts were often quick to answer messages before check-in and texts after we arrived. We opted to use the summerhouse and did have a few glitches like short circuiting a fuse when turning on two appliances at once or a misaligned knob on the stove that made it stay on. Both were quickly tended to as the hosts stay on the first floor of the duplex. During an unexpected city-wide power outage the hosts were gracious and took us around to see the Sound and Fort Warden. I would rent again if I had a car. This is about a 5-7 minute drive into town and a 40 minute walk with hills. Neighborhood was quiet and the water pressure was strong. One thing to note, laundry is not in the rented unit. You'll have to coordinate with the hosts who are more than accommodating to let you use."

Welcome to our home! We live in the attic and are excited to share our space with you! Our home is located on the outskirts of Port Townsend approx. 30-40 minutes walk from historic downtown. We live on 3/4 acre with views of Mt. Baker, Mt. Rainer and Port Townsend Bay. We are in the city limits, we feel as though we are out in the country! We are still a work in progress, so you may see some of our unfinished projects.
WE HAVE ANOTHER LISTING: SUMPTUOUS ROOM IN STRAWBALE HOUSE.
The space
PLEASE NOTE: if you need to check-in after 9pm we ask you to please list this in your initial request. We live in the house and often have other guests sleeping in our other Airbnb room.
Our family lives in the home as well.
We have a 2nd Airbnb room on the same floor.
PLEASE NOTE: YOU WILL HAVE YOUR OWN PRIVATE SHOWER AND SINK ROOM AND WILL BE SHARING THE CENTRAL TOILET ROOM WITH THE GUESTS IN OUR OTHER AIRBNB ROOM. THERE IS A PRIVACY DOOR CONNECTING EACH GUEST BATHROOM. ALL YOU HAVE TO DO IS KNOCK BEFORE ENTERING THE TOILET ROOM.
IF YOU NEED TO HAVE YOUR OWN DEDICATED TOILET THEN WE SUGGEST THAT YOU LOOK AT OTHER LISTINGS IN TOWN.
Our hand-built strawbale house is located in lovely Port Townsend and is a 5 minute drive or 30-40 minute walk to downtown. Our little corner room is filled with light and views of Mt. Baker and Port Townsend bay as well as the green field below the house. The two-foot thick walls are hand plastered, lending an organic feel to the room as well as creating a warm and quiet space. Enjoy the 100% wool carpet, cotton sheets and natural linen duvet. In order to create a space where you can get away from the trappings of modern life, there is no TV in the room, but feel free to access our wi-fi to watch movies on your laptop using headphones. Our sweet kitty Tibby will most likely come and visit you as well! We are very social people and love to get to know our guests so please feel welcome to enjoy the rest of the house!
The bathroom is just a few steps away across the hall from your room and has a separate shared toilet space.
As you will see, our house and property is still a work in progress! There are still unfinished aspects to the house and we have yet to accomplish much outside landscaping due, in part, to a lack of deer fencing. Therefore, anything we plant will get eaten at this point! With this being said, our home is very comfortable and functional and we think you will love being here.
The room is in the 2nd floor so you will need to be comfortable climbing stairs.

So, what IS it, about a periwinkle house? Your private room in this light, open, peaceful home on a quiet street in Port Townsend is about a 5 min drive from historic downtown. It's tucked in by the blackberries, wild roses and fir trees, by one of PT's walking trails. For everyone's safety, at this time I am only hosting guests who are fully vaccinated for Covid-19.
The space
I love meeting travelers! Even if you're just popping up to Port Townsend from Seattle, everyone always has a story, and a lens on life that broadens my own. Welcome to my home.
The house is located in what I call "the suburbs" of Port Townsend: not Uptown, not Downtown, but atop one of the first hills as you're heading away from each. It's about a 5 minute drive - or a 30-40 minute walk to downtown. Your room is peaceful and calm -- the kind that makes you exhale when you walk in. The knotty pine doors, simple rocking chair, a wee bit of art, and a fluffy blue duvet invite you to slow down, snuggle in to your queen-sized bed, and relax (don't be thrown off -- sometimes I'll have a sunshine-yellow and white duvet cover on the bed... still inviting, still comfortable). The room-darkening shade makes it easy to sleep-in.... We'll even stop Time for you -- pausing the pendulum on the old kitchen clock, leaving it silent, while you sleep.
In order to create a space where you can get away from the trappings of modern life, there is no TV, but feel free to access the wi-fi to watch movies on your laptop using headphones. (I tend to turn off the wi-fi late at night, for better dreaming... but it'll be back on, in the morning!) I enjoy getting to know my guests, so please feel welcome to enjoy the main living areas of house.
In the summer months, the front porch is a wonderful place to hang out. As you'll see, the garden is a work in progress... deer, bunnies, butterflies and birds are always around - it gets a bit Disney-esque around here, and if you don't move too quickly, the deer will glide in and rest on the garden knee-wall, while you're drinking your tea. I think you'll enjoy being here!
Guest access
When you arrive, walk up the gravel path and knock on the bright blue door.
You are welcome to use the kettle to make yourself some drip coffee or tea; I don't have a microwave, and the kitchen is generally not available for guest cooking, but the fridge is available if you need to stash some groceries or leftovers from your dinner out. Feel free to enjoy the house and garden... or to stay in your room, and have some alone-time. As you wish!

You will have the house to yourself for nearly the entire month! I will be here to greet you on your arrival, Saturday, October 16th. On the 17th, I am leaving on a trip, planning to return around November 15th or so. My return date is unclear yet, but it won't be earlier than the 15th. So we will both be in the house for one night, at the beginning of your stay, and 1-2 nights at the end of your 30-day stay. (At present, this booking is set for a maximum of 33 days, so if you book more than 30 days, we'll overlap a bit longer at the end of your stay.) If, sometime during the month you feel you'd like to extend your stay, understanding that I'm likely to be back in the house, as usual, feel free to reach out to me, and we'll discuss that possibility!
HERE IS THE USUAL INFORMATION RE: HOW I INTERACT WITH GUESTS (not applicable for the Fall 2021 booking:)
I am in and out of the house: my healing arts studio is a short drive away, and I often do admin work and Zoom sessions from home. Occasionally I will head into my room for privacy, if I am on a conference call.
I tend to have good friends come and go occasionally, so there are times when the house is not quiet. That said, it IS generally pretty quiet around here... although I've been known to hum or to break into song, as I'm going through my day. (Don't worry: I can carry a tune!) :)
I DO enjoy getting to know my guests, so please join me for a cup of tea or glass of kombucha! OR... please feel free to spend your time in your room without any pressure to engage. I am very easy going, and go with whatever flow is happening.
[Note: the room is quiet with the door closed, but if you desire an extremely quiet environment, you may want to stay elsewhere.]
Other things to note
[Note: my Port Townsend business license #012297 allows me to host you! I'm required by law to post it on online listings, so... this is me, being legal. ~ KMM]

MANAGING EXPECTATIONS:
Bertha Cabover Camping may not be for everyone if you are uneasy without your wifi, lights, running water or really any modern-day conveniences (there is okay cell phone reception) or on the contrary if bugs make you fidget or the quiet makes you nervous & you can't roll with occasionally unforecast rain, wind, fog or even foghorns! then this may not be your cup of tea (and that's ok). Be honest with yourself, does this listing sound intriguing or terrifying? please rethink before booking.
Please understand that the camp is a work in progress, undergoing constant improvements & various projects may be underway during your visit. We try to keep it tidy but realistically that just isn't always possible.
What we truly hope, what our vision from the beginning has been is that all our guests enjoy a unique, peaceful, handcrafted experience that brings each individual that much closer to our planet, respecting her maybe just a little bit more. Nine Mile Adventures hopes to provide you with a moment or more of tranquility and a fulfilling escape from society. Feel free to hug the trees.
