Comfy, private, light-filled guesthouse, deck & garden-view. NO CLEANING FEE. Lovely rural setting, close to town. Gourmet kitchen. Gas stove. Coffee-maker & coffee/tea. 40" Smart-TV, DVD-player & many DVD's; fast WIFI (no cable). Washer-Dryer. Plush (not firm) queen-bed; black-out curtains. 2nd bedroom: twin-bed & home office. Welcome-treats! No Febreze or plug-ins. Dedicated parking-space. NO To-Do's on check-out. Come to relax! Hosts onsite. No non-infants under 6 years old. No exceptions.
The space
We lived in the guesthouse for a year while remodeling the main house, and we almost didn't want to move out, we liked it so much. One or both hosts nearly always onsite if questions or issues arise. We are very responsive. This is our only Airbnb, and we do everything ourselves, including cleaning.
Spacious master bedroom set up like a great hotel room. Plush mattress. (If you need a FIRM mattress, this one is not for you. But nearly all our guests have raved about the bed.) Lots of pillows. Nice bedding, towels, full-length mirror, luggage rack, extra blankets, and quality shampoo, conditioner, soap. The second bedroom is smaller, and the bed is made up only upon request, or when there are three guests. (No charge for making up second bedroom for two guests not sharing main bedroom.) The second bedroom has a twin bed. There is also a desk and a desk chair in the second bedroom, if you want a place other than the kitchen table to do some work. Recently installed wifi extender assures wifi is strong in 2nd bedroom.
We do not use Febreze, scent plug-in devices, or other products that add scent to the living spaces. The laundry detergent we normally use is lightly scented. But if you are scent-sensitive, and prefer bedding and towels laundered in "sensitive" no-scent detergent, just let us know when you make your reservation, or a week before arrival, and we are happy to use no-sent detergent for you.
Bright and sun-filled, with a nice view from the living room of large yard with huge Madrone tree, flowers, vegetable gardens, and other landscaping. Nearly three acres to wander around in, with lovely mountain views in our lower meadow area. Great place to have a picnic too.
Guesthouse feels cozy and private, but really quite spacious too, especially with living-room/great-room and open kitchen. Your own space. Great place from which to launch adventures into town or to the Peninsula. House is in a beautiful rural area of Port Townsend (but still close to town). Very relaxing.
The kitchen pretty much has everything you'd need to cook or make anything--pots and pans, pizza stone, baking dishes, mixing bowls. Many appliances, including panini-grill, waffle iron, blender, Cuisinart, smaller food processor, and toaster oven. And if there is anything you need that is not there (unlikely), just ask. There's also coffee, flour, sugar, salt, various spices, olive oil, and usually other "welcome" treats upon arrival.
The TV is NOT hooked up to cable. But recently upgraded to a "smart" (wifi-enabled) 40" TV so you can log-in to your Netflix account, etc. (A smart TV is one that automatically connects to the WIFI and essentially works like a computer to allow you to log on to streaming providers for which you have a subscription. You can also connect your laptop to TV or use a casting device.) Instructions in the drawer below the TV.)
WIFI signal is usually quite strong too, especially with newly-installed signal extender. Guesthouse has its own WIFI password on secure system. The DVD player also plays musics CD's, and there are lots of movie DVD's and music CD's in the closet in the main living area (the one with the bi-fold doors).
There are also cleaning supplies under the kitchen sink and in laundry room.
No Kids Under Six: The guesthouse is neither suitable for nor safe for children under the age of six years old. (Infants okay if not yet crawling.) There are lamps and breakables on tables, and long cords from the window blinds. We have made a few exceptions in the past, and the guest moved things around, took everything off tables and put things in closets, and left us to put everything back together again. So NO exceptions. But kids older than six welcome.
Guest access
You'll have guesthouse entirely to yourself. Unless you have told us that the 2nd bedroom is needed (for a 2nd or 3rd guest), the door will be closed. There is a home-office area also in the second area, and so we can leave the room open for that use as well (without having the bed made up). If you are using the 2nd bedroom, please note that the closet contains personal belongings and should be respected. (There's plenty of storage in the two dressers, and you can use the coat closet in the hallway.) Guests are free to wander around the property, even picnic in the meadow (although you might have some dogs come to visit there). Both the dogs are friendly, but one tends to be a bit of scaredy-cat and usually just barks from a distance. We call this "Dickens giving his lecture." Our other dog, Dashiell, will definitely greet you with a wagging tail and be happy to accept rubs. And no treats for the dogs please.
Other things to note
During the weekdays, if the windows are open in the bedrooms, there can be a bit of traffic noise in the morning from those heading into or out of town along Hastings. When we lived in the guesthouse, I never even noticed it, although Thomas did from time to time. But if you are really noise-sensitive, the larger bedroom will be best. Also keeping the windows and blinds closed when you go to sleep.
There is also a paper mill in Port Townsend, and depending on which way the wind is blowing, there can be a noticeable sulfur-like smell in the air for short periods of time, until the wind shifts and it blows away. The smell doesn't bother Denis ("smells like fireworks"), but Tom is not a big fan. If windows are closed, you can't smell it inside.
Also, if you would prefer bedding and towels washed in scent-free detergent, let us know when you make the reservation, or at least one week before arrival, and we are happy to do that for you is you are scent-sensitive.

Please note: If you need more space, we also have Hummingbird Suite that is 625 sq ft. Both are in our home. Hummingbird Suite sleeps four, welcomes kids and is on the main floor with a kitchenette. If you would like to have both spaces, the Suite can be connected to Hummingbird Sings.

Walk through our kitchen to the private stairs, pass through the handmade arched door and you are in your private, cozy space with 180 degree views.
Other things to note
Hummingbird Sings is less available since 2023. This is because Jim has a new live-in significant other. One advantage is that the queen size bed has been replaced with a king size bed, and the room is now heated and cooled with a heat pump. (To switch from cooling to heating or vice versa requires all three units in the house to be switched at the same time.)

Plenty of light and surrounded by nature with a forest view from every window. Rain or shine, tranquility and rest for the soul!
The space
This charming cabin is about 10 years old with a beautiful all-wood interior, creating a warm and peaceful space. The sliding glass doors open to a spacious deck. Here you can relax on an outdoor lounge chair or sit at the bistro set with your favorite beverage, enjoying the view of the forest as you listen to the sounds of the river below. Leave your tensions behind and rediscover that life is still good.
**We use the Airbnb enhanced cleaning protocol. For additional safety, we have chosen to keep the Red Cabin vacant for at least 24 hours before each new guest check-in and after each guest check-out. So we can all rest easy!
Other things to note
~INTERNET: We provide a Verizon wireless jet pack 8800L (a mobile hotspot) on the 4G LTE network. The MIFI signal and speed are reliable for 30 gigabytes of use. Beyond that, it slows down to 3G speeds. You still have unlimited data, just slower. (PLEASE, download any movies you want to watch onto your computer BEFORE you leave home.)
~SMOKING: We do not allow smoking of any kind (this includes cannabis) in the cabin nor on the property. We live in and are surrounded by forest and are keenly aware of potential forest fires. Discarded cigarette butts are one of the leading causes of wildfires, plus are toxic to wildlife. Thank you!
