When my husband Bob and I purchased this property 17 years ago, we knew it was just too beautiful not to share. The ocean and mountain vistas are like no other. The most common comment we receive is 'Wow, what a million dollar view'.

We are situated on seven acres set in a private and peaceful setting. Our home is truly a great place to relax and enjoy the amazing views from the hot tub or gazebo on your private patio. Enjoy the spacious bathroom equipped with towels, misc. bath needs and comfortable bath robes. We provide coffee, tea, cream butter and homemade cheese bread.

This is much more than a bed and breakfast. Many of our guest choose to treat it as a destination, taking time to relax and wind down. The gazebo and hot tub are yours to use exclusively during your visit. There is a BBQ provided which has been very popular. Your dishes are whisked away from behind the magic door (you have to check in for the rest of that story) and returned dishwasher clean.

If you choose to venture out, there are several hiking trails, wineries, fabulous restaurants, lakes and ocean beaches close by including the spectacular Malahat Sky Walk just 1.5 kilometers south. Mill Bay (about 5 minutes north) has shops, liquor store, Thrifty foods, Pharmasave and many other amenities.

We have been in operation since 2011; it has been one of the most rewarding experiences ever and are humbled by our 5 star rating!

- "This stay was great from start to finish. The hosts were super helpful and welcoming. The whole property is amazing. The decor is an eclectic blend of collectibles from all over the world. The unit was clean, organized and well stocked. The beds were comfortable and there was a smart TV in both bedrooms and the living room, and bidets in both bathrooms. We had our own washer and dryer to use whenever we liked and the stove, oven, microwave and fridge were all clean and worked well. We didn't use the dry sauna but it was there if we wanted to. The hot tub was clean and the private deck has a fire table, BBQ and outdoor kitchen and overlooks the neighbour's pasture with beautiful views of deer and a horse. We had access to the huge back part of the property that was original forested land with trails that provided a place to take serene strolls and would be perfect for anyone who likes to meditate in nature. It was such a treat to hear the birds and see the squirrels around the unit. The hosts were always accessible and went out of their way to make sure every part of our stay was enjoyable. They are currently working on several projects around this huge property that are sure to make the setting even more beautiful in the future. This property and its hosts definitely earned the 5 star rating we gave it."

Welcome to The Calm Chaos Forest Cabin Glamping Space (Calm Chaos is a joke the former tech/city people that own and live on the property to match their personalities as they adjust to country living and the adventures that unfold here daily). Nestled on a once grand private estate in Maple Bay, BC, after about 30 years of neglect this property was purchased and its transformation begun. This amazing RV reno is close to the ocean with exclusive access to the property’s 5 acres complete with a pond, gazebo and an ancient forest. The property is totally exclusive and private access with an 8-foot fence and a medieval iron gate keeping the outside world out. You have access by remote or app only. ( You’ll be given temporary access during your stay).

The property is located next to some of Vancouver Island’s most spectacular mountain bike trails (the annual BC Bike Race route passes by the property). Centrally located makes for quick access to any adventure - from beautiful wine country to amazing scenery of the Cowichan Valley. There are so many things to do from food choices, shopping, exploring, hiking and breath taking super natural British Colombia. Maple Bay and Genoa Bay, plus other area in the Cowichan Valley. You can access the area fast by float plane (there are 4 scheduled daily flights from Vancouver – a quick 40 minute flight and the property is minutes from the float plane dock in Maple Bay marina. There is also BC Ferries for a more traditional method of transport, the Hulu fast ferry from downtown Vancouver or commercial airline.

Located in beautiful Cowichan Bay, this suite has its own entrance, bedroom, living room, bathroom. No kitchen, has a small fridge, hotplate, kettle, toaster, pot and dishes. The suite is not separate, but is joined by an open stairwell. Guests are not allowed upstairs to the owner's living area. A blow up mattress (surprisingly comfortable) is available on request for sleeping in the living room. Wonderfully cool. Walkout to a relaxing patio for your morning coffee. Access to the unit involves walking around the house from the driveway, downhill on the lawn to the patio entrance below. Not suitable for those with mobility issues. Wonderfully quiet yard for relaxing and enjoying the ocean breezes and views.

This quaint house was moved onsite in 2001 from Crofton and raised up in 2004, adding an 850 sq ft. lower floor. The house is on a secluded road, Radway, which borders the old E & N Railway and the Old Mill Park on Shawnigan Lake. Easy walk to the beach on hot summer days and with a concrete floor this lower suite is always cool. Minutes drive to two other local beaches, Masons and Government Wharf (boat dock also), as well as boat dock on Recreation Road, minutes away. Room to bring your boat to this property. Twenty minutes from Cowichan Bay and Duncan. Ten minutes to Mill Bay. Minutes drive to Shawnigan Village, St. Johns Academy and Shawnigan Lake School. Langford in Victoria 30 minute drive.

The space
Our Homestead is secluded in the forest on the foot of Sooke Lake Watershed. We are 4km off the paved road, on a gravel road, tucked away in the forest. The cabin offers a queen size bed in the loft and a pull out couch in the living area. The cozy living area invites you to relax with a book by the wood stove. And the deck is perfect to enjoy your coffee in the morning and watch all the animals waking up. The cabin has a full kitchen and indoor plumbing.

We open our ranch for our guests, so you are welcome to explore everything and say hello to all the animals. Keep in mind, we are a working ranch. Therefore we ask you to specially watch your children as there is equipment around.

We do also offer trail rides, horse experiences and goat hikes in small private groups. Enjoy our beautiful nature in company of a great and fun animal.

McLay House was originally a hunting lodge; built around 1895, it was surrounded by cottages to accommodate hunters, who would come to the main house "lodge" for their meals.
This home is a beautiful example of the Craftsman style: solid 24” original Douglas fir paneling, high ceilings and so much of the original character throughout. Electric and plumbing have been updated but the original floor plan remains.

A cozy space with direct access to forest trails. The ocean, wineries, and a farm market - all within a 10-15 minute walk. Brentwood and Shawnigan Lake schools are a 5-10 minute drive.

The space
The guest suite has its own exterior private access. There is plenty of parking on site. Guests have access to the large yard, deck, and fire pit. There is also a natural gas BBQ on the covered front deck that can be used upon request. There is Crown land with forest trails at the back of the property's meadow - through a gate. A short 10-15 minute walk brings you to a public trail and beach access to the ocean.

During your stay
The homeowner is on site and accessible if guests require assistance. There are two dogs on site but kept within a secure, fenced yard. The guest private access is outside of the secure yard. If guests do intend to use the forest trails, their access is through the fenced dog yard.

Other things to note
The Victoria International Airport is across the Saanich Inlet from the property. As such, airplanes do occasionally fly overhead but are not typically heard from within the home unless a window is open.

The suite is attached to our home. When the it was constructed, Sonopan Soundproofing panels were installed behind its walls and behind its ceilings. While it doesn’t soundproof 100%, it does significantly reduce noise exchange between the house and the suite. We also do our best to be quiet when guests are visiting.

Be aware that we have two dogs. They are fenced and do not have access to the floor where the suite is located, nor where the exterior entrance is for the suite. While they are not barkers, they do bark if someone comes to the door.

Welcome to the Roost. Our fully private suite is close to countless scenic spots as well as many places to walk, bike, hike or swim. Minutes from West Shawnigan Lake Park and the Kinsol Trestle, you can make the most of your stay at beautiful Shawnigan lake. After your adventures, you can relax amongst the trees in our private & cozy suite, & recharge with a good nights rest in the comfortable queen bed. The trans Canada trail is approximately a 10 minute walk from the suite and you can walk or bike to the Kinsol trestle (& beyond) on the trail. It is a nice, flat trail that is well maintained. You can also walk to West Shawnigan lake park going the other direction on the trans Canada trail. While we don't have lake access, we are across the street from Shawnigan lake so you can stroll up the road and see the water on your way to the trans Canada trail where you can go for a dip at the park.

We are located just over a 5 minute drive from Shawnigan village, where you will find a lovely bakery, delicious coffee, chocolates & more. The roost is roughly 30 minutes from Duncan by car and about an hour from downtown Victoria, depending on traffic.

Other things to note
The Roost is on the second floor and there are stairs immediately upon entry.

We occasionally need to access our shop below the suite & can do so using the garage doors. The doors opening/closing can be heard from the suite so we will ensure any use occurs during appropriate hours. If you have any concerns about this or need quiet for a certain period during the day (ie are having a nap; putting baby down for a nap) - feel free to let us know! There will be no projects being worked on in the shop during your stay.

Our 300 sq. ft. cottage is situated on a 2.5 acre property where we reside. The location is perfect for those who want to have a place to relax after exploring the local vineyards, farmers’ markets, parks, beaches and walking trails. The cottage’s style mimics that of the main house, which is about 60 feet away from the cottage. We respect your privacy, and will leave you to yourselves. We love meeting new people and are LGBTQ+ friendly!

The space
The cottage is small but has everything you need for a relaxing few nights’ stay. The sleeping area has a queen sized bed, with reading lamps affixed to the wall. There’s a small closet with hangers, that also includes the on-demand hot water system. The bathroom has a shower, but no bathtub. The kitchenette has a small sink, toaster, microwave, kettle, air fryer/toaster oven combo, electric skillet, drip coffee maker, French press, and bigger-than-a- bar-fridge refrigerator with freezer compartment. A rice cooker is available, please ask. We can provide an ironing board and iron if you need them. We cannot provide a conventional oven, or a cooktop, as our insurance does not allow it. The living room area has two comfortable leather recliners, and two wooden TV tables that can be used for indoor dining. The 42” Smart TV can be watched from the bed, or the living area. Roku is available for you to use, and you can also sign into your own Netflix and other streaming accounts. The large windows have blinds, however they do not block out all light, so if you are sensitive to this in the early mornings, you may want to bring eye masks. Outside is a table with umbrella for al fresco dining, and comfortable chairs with footrests.

The fenced area for our dogs is not, as we have one canine who likes to escape. If you wish to meet our dogs, we would be happy to introduce you. They are friendly, and like to meet new people too!

We don’t provide breakfast but do provide coffee, regular and decaf (upon request), an assortment of teas and hot chocolate, and a milk of your choice for them. Salt, pepper, oil and vinegar are provided. We also provide a welcome basket of assorted snacks, and a few beverages in the fridge.

Our well water is perfectly safe to drink, however it sometimes has a cloudy appearance. There is a brita type water pitcher in the fridge for drinking water if you prefer.

We share the outdoors with many creatures, including raccoons, bears and sometimes even cougars, so it’s important that no food or garbage is left outside.

Property is located in historic Cowichan Station and only minutes from the highway. Conveniently situated halfway between Nanaimo and Victoria and only 10 minutes to Duncan. Duncan is famous for the Totem Tour as well as a cute little downtown offering the Duncan Farmers Market every Saturday. We are close to the ocean, Cowichan Bay, the Kinsol Trestle, Cobble Hill and numerous vineyards, and dairy farms.

The Sailors’ Rest is a one-of-a-kind boutique cottage delivers to our guests an experience to remember and tell their friends. This project and final product is a culmination of the artistic designs of one of the hosts that took a 2-car unfinished garage and repurposed it into what you see, using the Naval decor from your other host’s personal and family history of their father and his own service as Commanders in the Royal Canadian Navy. You will see various paraphernalia, pictures of Naval tradition and history throughout. While you are here don’t forget to sign the log book and tell us about your stay.

We have a mountain view not a waterfront or water-view property, though we are only a few minutes walk down to the ocean. We are also right next to an off-leash dog park, tennis courts (we have rackets and balls for you to use), pickle ball courts, and kids play area. If you are bringing your bikes or running shoes there are lots of trails to explore near by.

Our property is located in the quiet seaside community of Mill Bay, in the beautiful Cowichan Valley, and is close to many enjoyable activities and attractions. The nearby ocean and beaches are ideal for boating, kayaking and swimming, while parks and country roads are perfect for hiking and cycling. The Mill Bay Marina is a short walk away and offers a popular ocean front restaurant as well as wildlife and private boat tours.
Further afield, enjoy exploring the historic Kinsol Trestle - just 15 minutes by car and then a lovely 20 minute walk. If you enjoy wine or cider, the Cowichan Valley is home to many excellent wineries and the Merridale Cidery. Wine tasting tours are a great way to experience the valley!
Golfers will appreciate several excellent courses.
For a day trip, take the Mill Bay ferry (only 4.5 km from “The Orchard”) to Brentwood Bay and The Butchart Gardens, or visit the beautiful city of Victoria, just 40 minutes away by car.
En route to Victoria is the magnificent Malahat Skywalk.
Twenty minutes north of Mill Bay is the charming town of Duncan, known as the “City of Totems.” Duncan offers self-guided walking tours of over 40 beautifully carved totems representing local native culture and history.
Every Saturday, year round, you can visit the Duncan Farmers’ Market. Here, in the market square, you will find more than 100 vendors selling their wares.
A further 10 minutes north of Duncan is the town of Chemainus, famous for its murals and the highly regarded Chemainus Theatre.

Dogs are welcome but the following Pet Policy must be adhered to along with an $50 additional cleaning fee per dog:
Your dogs are welcome with the following rules:
1. They must be in control on the property and stay within the fenced back yard when off leash.
2. Pets must do no damage to the yard or house.
3. Pets are not allowed on the beds or couch as it is often very difficult to ensure every hair is removed.
4. All dog poop must be picked up from the yard.
5. No deposit is required but there is an additional $50 cleaning fee which is applied automatically when you add your pet.

Guests will have access to the whole guesthouse, shared use of the driveway and within the cedar fenced backyard. The host lives in the main house on the same property and MAY be available should the need arise, but will be happy to give the guests the privacy they require.
