Our charming cottage is set amongst other cottages in the forest alongside the Koksilah River. The surroundings are beautiful and serene.
The cottage sleeps six and on the main floor offers a bedroom (queen), bathroom (heated floor, refurbished 80 year old claw foot tub and shower. Kitchen (gas range, full size fridge), dining and living area (wood burning stove). The upstairs loft is open and airy with views of the forest and the river. It is accessed by ladder stairs that may be tricky for younger children. It features 2 queen sized beds and a family area.
At the back of the cottage, through French doors off of the kitchen and dining area there are two decks overlooking the forest and the river. There you will find a Weber barbecue, fire table and outdoor furniture that you can enjoy as you sit back and take in the view, the soothing sounds of the river, and quite simply… nature.
The cottage is a retreat to return to after a day of antiquing, enjoying the water hole at the river, swimming in nearby Shawnigan Lake or touring wineries, local markets… perhaps a lavender farm. The Kinsol Trestle is about a 20 minute walk and if you prefer a longer hike, you can continue on for miles in the woods along well-groomed paths.
Although the cottage is tucked away, it is close to abundant shopping including:
Cobble Hill, approximately 15 minutes away, offers groceries and amazing fresh roasted coffee.
- Cowichan Bay, approximately 20 minutes away, is on the ocean and offers restaurants, bakeries, shops… even ocean kayaking.
Duncan is approximately a 30 minute drive north. On Saturdays in the spring, summer and fall, there is an amazing farmers market.

The Old Maple log cabin is unique in its charm with a simple yet welcoming interior. The kitchen area is complete with a small fridge, deluxe propane camp stove, and large bar sink with a traditional hand pump water faucet. Nestled in the Beach Estates, take a forest trail leading from behind the cabin to the Shawnigan Athletic Park and playground. We are a short walk to the Shawnigan Lake private school grounds and endless nature trails. A mushroom lover's paradise in the fall, and many animals to see year-round. Deer often sleep next to the cabin in the warmer months. We have a blue heron that likes to fish in our Koi pond, as well as rabbits, quail, lizards, and once in a while, a friendly bear may even walk through the neighbourhood.
Just 4 minutes from Mason Beach Park and The Black Swan Pub/Liquor Store. Shawnigan Village is only 5 minutes away, with various restaurants, a cafe, gas station, and more. Even closer is the beautiful Lakehouse Restaurant within a 2-minute drive or a 20-minute walk. They have a stunning view of the lake and fantastic food and beverage menus.
Don't forget to prebook at our neighbouring NYÜBU spa for the full retreat experience and enjoy their sauna and cold plunge circuit. They offer both community sessions for $30 or private rentals. They have become very popular, so be sure to book in advance.

Our tiny well appointed cottage has been curated for comfort, ease and maximum fun. You’ll enjoy sun filled days on the water, ride a jet ski, hop on a SUP, play on the water trampoline, snorkel, lounge on the dock, go antique shopping, dine at nearby eateries or tour the local wineries. It's our slice of heaven.

Sleeping arrangements include open concept 1 queen bed and 1 twin bed in main cottage with kitchen + bath. Separately 1 queen bed in cedar barrel next to the main cottage.

Enjoy some time away from the busy city and come relax at Shawnigan lake. This basement suite offers ll the comforts of home including purified water, air conditioning and Wi-fi. Start the day off by enjoying your coffee on the wharf and see where the day takes you. Maybe take the kayaks out for a picnic on Memory Island, and come back and soak in the covered hot tub. Or bring your bikes and take a ride on the Canada trail and check out the Kinsol Trestle. Or stay close to the property and relax the day away. If you'd like to swim I highly recommend bringing a floatie so that you can keep your feet off the bottom of the lake. Once you get out of the bay the lake does get deeper and less mucky. Then after dinner relax by the fire or propane fire pit (depending on fire regulations), and take in the all the stars that you don't always see in the city.
We are about 10 mins from Mason's Store and The Black Swan that offers a Cold Beer and Wine store incase you've forgotten anything. The Lakehouse Restaurant is about a 5 min drive down the road if you aren't into cooking. We are surrounded by farmland with easy access to the valley's renowned wineries, and hiking and mountain biking trails. The cabin is an old horse barn which we converted and lived in for a year. There are two other residences on the property. Whether you're seeking outdoor adventures with family or a peaceful retreat, we look forward to hosting you. Welcome to our unique cedar shake cabin nestled in a garden with sweeping field views on Thistledown Farm, located 10 minutes from Duncan. This space is a rustic, cozy retreat for those who enjoy the eco friendly livestyle or are a hippie at heart!

The space
The garden cabin is an open concept 400 square feet space featuring a spacious loft with new and comfy, king size Bedstory bed. There is secondary new Bedstory twin bunk bed downstairs. The heart of the space is an airy kitchenette, with double hotplate, toaster and electric kettle.

The bathroom features a clawfoot bath tub. The toilet is located in a detached outhouse steps from the cabin. It is a composting style, no flush toilet.

There is a cozy woodstove to heat the space and plug in electric heater. There is a fire pit in the garden area that can be used unless there is a campfire ban (summertime). We'll have kindling and wood logs ready for your use.

Safety consideration: The loft has a steep staircase that is not suitable for those with mobility issues or children under 2 years old.

Guests have a private entrance and full use of the cabin and outhouse. The surrounding garden and field are shared spaces and you may see me or my family gardening during your stay. The cabin shares an exterior wall with my office.

Other things to note
You will most likely see some farm animal friends during your stay. Our cows, sheep, goats or chickens may come to the fences surrounding the cabin/garden area to say hello. Please do not open any gates into the animal pastures, enter the pastures or feed the animals. As this is a working farm you may hear animal noises or farm machinery. We think it adds to the charm and we hope you do too :)

Our tiny cabin is located on a 14 acres property in the middle of the woods. You will enjoy complete privacy and use of your own area on the land, including a pond.

Located 2 min, from the Transcanada Trail, 20 min. walk to the Kinsol Trestle, a World Heritage Site with beautiful swimming holes right underneath the bridge. 20 min. to next Grocery store and 22-25 min to Duncan. Approx. 50 min- 1 hr to Victoria.

Pottery lessons are available by request if you have always wanted to try it out.

The space
The cabin is brand-new and has a big deck as additional outdoor space with a patio corner including a table and an outdoor shower with forest view through a glass wall.
We provide biodegradable organic soaps, shampoo, conditioner and cleaning products as well as fresh towels, wash cloths and a hair dryer.

An on-demand propane tank will provide hot water for the shower and the kitchen which includes a new small propane cookstove.
Apart from that the kitchen is stocked with all new appliances such as a fridge with freezer, a toaster oven that fits a 12” pizza, a toaster, an electric water kettle, an espresso maker and a french press for coffee.
We provide organic tea and coffee, organic sugar, salt, pepper and oil.
We also haveseasonal availability of farm fresh eggs from our free range chickens.
There is everything you need to cook a meal and clean up after plus store your leftovers in the fridge.
The eating table can be folded up to create more floor space.

The sleeping loft is accessed by a ladder with extra safety bar to hold on to and support you climbing up and down from the loft. Physical ability to use ladder is a requirement.
There is enough room to stand in the middle of the loft but not under the slanted ceiling areas.

Our mini wood stove warms the place quickly and we have lots of firewood onsite to use.
Drinking water comes in excellent quality straight from the tap from a 250 ft mountain well.

The composting toilet has a great view of the pond and is supplied with toilet paper and peat moss. It’s a stone’s throw away from the cabin and there are flashlights available plus solar lights and torches along the way.

Beside the pond you have the opportunity to relax in a family sized hammock under big trees and enjoy the sounds of nature.

This is an ideal getaway for couples, good friends, or for solo reflection and artist retreat.
We have a fully equipped pottery studio on the property and the kitchen is filled with our handmade dishes.

There is no cell service at the cabin, but the wifi is excellent and with wifi-calling turned on n your settings you will receive your text messages and phone calls as usual.

As a general rule we do not host young children for safety reasons, as the sleeping loft area is only accessible by a ladder and could be a safety risk.
If your child is over 7 yrs of age and you are confident they can safely and respectfully be in the cabin please let us know and we can talk about it.

At this point we do not welcome dogs to protect our farm animals. Thanks for your understanding.

Little River Cottage

Our charming cottage is set amongst other cottages in the forest alongside the Koksilah River. We have a 4 night minimum.

The space
The cottage sleeps six and on the main floor offers a bedroom (queen), bathroom (heated floor, refurbished 80 year old claw foot tub), kitchen (gas range, full size fridge), dining and living area (wood burning stove).
The upstairs loft is open and airy with views of the forest and the river. It features 2 queen sized beds and a family area.
At the back of the cottage, through French doors off of the kitchen and dining area there are two decks overlooking the forest and the river. There you will find a Weber barbecue, fire table and outdoor furniture that you can enjoy as you sit back and take in the view, the soothing sounds of the river, and quite simply… nature.
The cottage is a retreat to return to after a day of antiquing, enjoying the water hole at the river, swimming in nearby Shawnigan Lake or touring wineries, local markets… perhaps a lavender farm.  The Kinsol Trestle is about a 20 minute walk and if you prefer a longer hike, you can continue on for miles in the woods along well-groomed paths. We have a 3 night minimum.

Our beautiful waterfront property is ideally located on the western arm of Shawnigan Lake. A quick 30 minute drive from Victoria, you will be soaking in the sun on the dock in no time. The large flat lawn provides ample space for lawn games, take the paddle boards or kayaks out on the lake, lay in the sun on the dock, or relax on the multiple decks. With two separate cabins and a bunk house, this property has everything you need and more!

The space
The cabin was updated last year and has ample space for making meals and drinks, playing games or gathering around the island, but its unlikely you will be spending much time indoors anyways! An outdoor cooking area, dining table on the covered deck with overhead heater, expansive flat lawn for yard games, kayaks and paddle boards and a large dock are all available for your use.

The cabin has two bedrooms, with a king and a queen bed. The cabin sleeps 4 adults with an additional guest able to sleep on the futon couch in the living room. The maximum number of guests is 6 as there is also a bunk house with 6 single bunk beds. This can be rented for additional guests but is best suited for kids. Please reach out if you have more guests than the maximum.

Sheets and bath towels are provided. Lake towels need to be brought yourself. Essentials such as cooking oil and salt and pepper, tin foil, toilet paper and paper towel are included, as well as all cutlery and dishes. All food items, as well as condiments and spices will need to be brought with you.

The owners cabin is separate but located on the same property. It is unlikely it will be occupied during your stay, but this cabin and patio space are off limits to guests.

There is a 5-6 person hot tub situated on the patio next to the house allowing you a spot to sit and gaze out over the lake. On the dock there is a wood fired sauna that will give you privacy to enjoy a good steam!

We do have Shaw Wi-Fi available and a smart tv in living room to utilize but do not have a land line.

There are 2 paddle boards & 2 kayaks to use during your visit. There are chairs and table under the gazebo on the dock to relax in the shade.

Although on the lake, this home is located next to Shawnigan Lake Road. We do have a large fence in place but you will at times here the traffic on the street. We have security cameras outside on the deck that we will turn off during your stay. We also have a third camera out towards the side of the road we use to have security over parking. This will stay on over the road 24/7.

The space
Our 2 level fully furnished lakefront gem is an old, cozy updated 1970's house. It is situated directly on the lake with door to dock access within seconds.

Sleeping:
There are four bedrooms and two bathrooms (1 bathroom on each floor)
Upper level: Bedroom 1- Queen bed
Bedroom 2- Two twin beds (one twin is a trundle bed =3 beds)
Entry level: Bedroom 3- King bed
Bedroom 4- Double bed

Heating: All rooms have baseboard heaters and adjustable heating to your preference.
Upper rooms have two ceiling fans, lower rooms are cooler and have a fan in each.

Kitchen:
2022 purchased oven and large fridge freezer with filtered water dispenser.
Fully stocked with kettle, coffee machine, blender, microwave, toaster oven, waffle maker, cooking supplies and filtrated water cooler down stairs provided. (The tap water is tested/treated weekly from a large water treatment area on our property but we recommend general drinking from the provided water dispenser options). Please plan for your own cooking needs with parchment, tinfoil and oils etc. While we stock things well, items get used up and we do not supply every cooking item regularly.

Dining:
6-8 seating Long dining table in front of a wood burning fireplace.
Living area with lounge seating for morning coffee and lounge or enjoying the views.
Our two wood burning fireplaces will always be fully stocked and ready to light. All extra wood and kindling can be provided.

Living Room:
Upstairs: We have as a special living space. It is a great lounge spot to enjoy that gorgeous lake view from our house.

Downstairs: Large leather couch with Wifi TV available on entry lower level with second wood burning fire place. As well as a Spin bike and hand weights/ workout bench located on this floor.
Toys, Foozball table.

Two bathrooms:
Both have showers, lower entry level has the bath. Usually stocked with shampoo, conditioner, body wash (however renters have taken them in the past and we can not always replace). Extra paper towel and toilet paper found in upstairs closet in lower basket.

Patio:
Teak dining outdoor table seats 6-8 and a new Weber BBQ and full propane tank should be set (we cannot replenish it if its low and runs out)
Our newly renovated indoor living room is accessible to patio as well.
Rain, wind and flying debris occur regularly, therefore there can be leaves and water from rain between cleanings.

Outdoor/Dock:
In the summer (late May/June)the dock is perfectly set up for lounging and soaking in the sun. There are two lounge areas on the dock one with a large gazebo over 2 lounge chairs and a couch. The other lounge sectional has a sun umbrella if needed (PLEASE PUT DOWN WHEN NOT IN USE DUE TO WIND)
As well there are 2 extremely comfortable lay down loungers.

We have 1 long wood picnic table located on our green space lawn in front of our beach for lake front dining. You are welcome to move it where you like along our grass property.

***Please note:
In October-May/early June we take down and store some of our dock and patio furniture to keep it pristine for the following year. The lake rises by November/December and can fully cover the lawn and beach by January and all the way to the end of May depending on rain season. With that and weather damage the furniture and dock will be set with the picnic table and small lounge set only (cushions located inside if you prefer to wade out)

There is propane fire pit for the cement outdoor patio with seating to view the beach front. If a fire ban please use that only.

We have a washer and dryer, bath towels, beach towels, fresh linens and a hot and cold water cooler, wine beer fridge upstairs in kitchen and an extra tall freezer on entry level (Note: extra freezer only out in summer season)

Indoor sonos music system, Games, Foosball table, puzzles, 2 kid kayaks, 2 adult SUP out all year. In the summer season a floating play mat and swim out pop up dock, life jackets, beach and water toys.
For the 2 paddle boards and 2 kid kayaks in the winter it will be located on outside patio. In the summer all will be located under our house on lake side.

Our guests have full access and use of the house except for one storage room located on lower entry level that is locked and not available for guests to access. The boat house garage is locked as well for our storage use only.
There are four parking spaces located out front of house for your use.
Please respect our neighbours and keep your pet on our property and dock only.
Parking spots please only use the 4 spots out front our house. No street/driveway parking and no CAMPERS/RV/TENT TRAILER staying.
And please clean up after your dog and use the garbage under garage roof for pet clean up.
Dogs should be kept on our property or leashed if travelling.

Other things to note
Please let us know if you are wanting to bring a pet. We do have a non refundable daily pet fee. It can be discussed and adjusted based on pet and length of stay.

Please note the lake rises right to the steps of our grass front beach access and can rise to our cement lower patio. If it rains heavily it takes longer for a dry beach and grass area to return. Therefore spring can feel quite wet out and muddy out front and dock access is therefore limited.

Our cozy, log cabin is nestled among large fir and cedar trees. Enjoy calm swimming from the private sunny dock. The spacious interior features open log beams with 18 ' ceilings, a rock fireplace in living room, kitchen, dining, TV room and sunroom. Up to three bedrooms , all with lake views. A hot tub overlooking the lake, a canoe, BBQ and a hammock in the trees completes the setup for a peaceful, relaxing getaway. Perfect for a romantic stay for two, or a fun place for family/ friends.

The space
This rustic, unique and spacious log cabin was designed and hand built over 60 years ago by our family, and has always been in the family. Every log was planned and installed by hand with joints showing the creative handiwork.

Although we updated the cabin over 12 years ago. we have retained the original rustic design and charm. For example, the main floor has a rock fireplace, sourced from a local nearby quarry, and 18 + foot original log beams on the ceiling. The ceiling lights on the main floor are original wagon wheels sourced from a local farm in the Cowichan valley. The outside deck is built around original fir trees. A hand built wood swing overlooking the lake was built in the 1970's and has been restored to its original design. There is new dock with pergola and lounge chairs. The ambient feel of the cottage is cozy, rustic, and woody, surrounded by fir and cedar trees. with views of the lake.

There are three good sized bedrooms, each on its own floor. Sleeps up to 6 people . The master bedroom is the original log bedroom and features a queen size bed, a cozy armchair with ottoman, a lamp, a dresser drawer and a full length mirror. The second bedroom features a large antique double bed, with lamp, a built in closet with hangers, and a dresser drawer. The third bedroom features a large antique double bed, a small dresser drawer, and sconces.
The upstairs bathroom has a toilet and sink, the downstairs bathroom has a shower ( the shower is separated from the sink /toilet for convenience. The downstairs shower is original - we choose to leave the rustic stone backsplash (original) and the shower floor (original stone and slate). They function well and remind us of the original hand built. The shower is rustic. But it functions well and gives great hot water

The cottage location and the dock is ideally situated on the sunny side of the lake with calm waters. A new dock down some stairs was added in 2023 and includes a shade pergola and loungers. There is a beach area for kids to play in.

The property is heavily treed with the cabin built among large fir and cedar trees. A hammock hangs among the trees and a hot tub sits on a raised platform to take advantage of the lake views. Watch the stars at night and take in the view of the shimmering lake as you soak after a day of sun and swimming . There are other outdoor areas to enjoy the lake view besides the dock.

A 2 person canoe is available for your use to explore Shawnigan Lake. Please bring your own life jackets.

The split level cabin offers 3 bedrooms each on its own level. A living room, a sunroom and a kitchen with dining area. A separate TV room features a couch and a chair, DVDs and an assortment of games and books (adults and kids), offer the guests a perfect way to spend their evening after a day of sun and swimming.


Please note there are stairs going down into the cabin from the parking area and stairs going down to the private dock, there are also a few stairs in the cabin between floors.

We have WIFI at the cottage. Ideal for work from home.

There are many attractions close by - for example, great hiking and biking trails, amazing wineries, the Saturday Duncan farmers market with local organic produce, and many more.

The cabin is within 20 minutes from city of Duncan, 45 minutes from Victoria, and a similar distance from Nanaimo. Two hours from Coombs, three hours from Tofino and Ucluelet.

Shawnigan village, a grocery store and the local convenience store are a quick car ride away. A neighborhood restaurant is within 5 mins of walking from the cabin. Its the ideal middle location between Victoria and the many attractions of the northern and western part of Vancouver Island. A perfect spot to relax, rejuvenate and explore the many attractions of the Cowichan Valley and Vancouver Island.

It is not advisable to drink the tap water at the cabin Please bring filtered water to drink and use for cooking. If additional water is needed during your stay , Masons, the convenience store, Thrifty foods or Country grocers are an option.

You are welcome to use any remaining propane in the tank for your BBQ meals. if you run out, you can refill at the coop gas station at Mill bay, a quick drive from the cottage. Please clean the BBQ unit after every use and ensure the propane tank is turned off after use.

For safety purposes please bring your own life jackets.

The cabin is suitable for children and older adults. However, please note - cabin was constructed over 60 years ago. There are concrete stairs from the parking lot to the cabin and to the dock. Although we have some handrails, not all stairs have handrails, young kids and older adults with mobility issues should please consider getting help walking down the stairs.

Cabin has good Wi-Fi .

Both bathrooms have been upgraded -however the shower floor (stones and slate) is original and the stone backsplash is original) . Functions well.

The shower is quirky. Please note hot is cold and cold is hot. Been like that for 60 years

We supply towels , linens , extra pillows and blankets . We also have salt, pepper and a bottle of oil for your use. please bring your own shampoo, and any other toiletries you may need .

Cabin has hot water.

Although there is washer and dryer in the cottage, we generally do not include it in the rental as the washer has got some mechanical issues. if you absolutely need to use it, we are happy to walk you through for emergency purposes.

Please no music on the dock in consideration of our neighbors.

Please no lit candles inside or outside the cabin.

This is a no smoking, no vaping inside or outside anywhere on the property.

Please note fireplace use is prohibited by CVRD between April-October,. This applies to both the indoor and the outdoor fireplaces.

Please note, we offer self checkout and as this is a lake front property, there are some additional checkout tasks we ask of all our guests before they depart, For example pulling the canoe on shore, moving the swim toys away from the water etc. We send you a checkout message the night before as a remainder.

The hot tub use, requires us to come check the chlorine levels every couple of days. This task usually takes about 10 mins and we do not enter the cabin. But you may see us if you are outside, we promise to wave.

Only registered guests on the dock, and in the cabin .
Note we have a strict enforced rule of no parties or gatherings inside or outside.



Two car parking is available on the cabin side of the parking lot only. Please note we have neighbors [that share the parking lot with us.

We ask all our guests to observe that between 10 pm and 7 am is quiet time on the dock and the outside premises. Noise levels amplify on the lake.

And please note we do not use white for our towels and bedding - as we are uncomfortable using bleach in our wash. Our bedding is colorful and we hope you like it..

Welcome to the Kinsol Cabin!

This modern & eco-built cabin is a retreat by the lake. Nestled in the trees, you'll find nothing but peace and tranquility, located a few minutes walk from the famous Kinsol Trestle & the Trans Canada Trail; a haven for hikers, mountain bikers & outdoor enthusiasts of every kind. We are a 5 minute drive from West Shawnigan Lake Park (lake access) and an 8 minute drive from Masons Beach / Shawnigan village, and a 50 minute drive from Victoria.

Guest access
This 2-level cabin features an open concept living room, woodstove fireplace, master bedroom loft with ensuite, a gorgeous concrete kitchen island / dining table and an expansive private deck with BBQ and outdoor dining table. Guests will enjoy private use of our 6 person hot tub!

The upper bedroom is light filled, with a queen bed and ensuite bathroom.

On the lower level you will find two additional bedrooms, and one bathroom.

Bedroom #2 and #3 both have a double size mattress, wardrobe, a space heater for cooler nights and full length mirrors.

We provide all the essentials for a comfortable stay. Items include a fully equipped kitchen with basic kitchen supplies - oil, salt, pepper, coffee, hot chocolate, tea. We supply body wash, shampoo and conditioner in the bathrooms. Monopoly, charades, Jenga, cards and puzzles are here for your families' enjoyment!

We quite often have wildlife on our property, big and small, from squirrel and deer to brown bear.

This cabin is a 10 minute walk from the new St. John's Academy private school. Shawnigan Lake is a small, mostly rural community nestled in a lovely valley on Vancouver Island, approximately 45 km north of Victoria.

This beautiful family cabin is right on the shore line of Shawnigan Lake. A five minute drive to the village, where there are restaurants, drug store, gas station and other amenities. Suitable for up to 6 people. Will allow well behaved small pet

The space
Very serene place in the fall and winter months. Nice place to fish for trout or bass. Summer guests will enjoy the sun and lake. The newly built wharf is a perfect place to relax and enjoy surrounding scenery. The cabin has a nice sized deck with table and the wharf/lake access are just down a small set of stairs to a small grass area. There is some shade on the grass area and full sun out on the wharf.

Lots of hiking trails in the area to take advantage of during your stay. Baldy Mtn is a 5 min walk to one of the many trails it offers. The top of the mountain is about a 30-45min hike with a 360 degree view at the top. Look for the hidden swing at the top and enjoy the view.
Visit the KINSOL TRESTLE.... Beautifully restored engineering marvel is worth the visit. Very pleasant walk of about 1 Km from the parking area through wooded gravel roadway. Gorgeous views of surrounding hills.

The cabin is its own space with an attached deck and outdoor seating area. The space also includes a small grass area with shoreline.

Other things to note
The cabin is on a very quiet, not too busy road. There is a fence along the property that secludes it from the public.
This is a NON-SMOKING cabin and area! No smoking of any kind. No campfires or burning of any kind. The cabin is in a family oriented neighbourhood and appropriate behaviour is expected at all times. No swearing/foul language.
