Right over the water with stunning uninterrupted views of Maple Bay, Saltspring Island, and Birds Eye Cove Marina. Enjoy a glass of wine on the deck, watch the moon rise over Saltspring Island, or bundle up for storm watching and then a steam shower. Bring your boat! Dock space is available.
There are 2 kayaks available for use but shared with us. Ask about the “kayak pub crawl”.
There is a BBQ outside the cabin but no indoor cooking facilities. There is a small fridge, coffee maker, and kettle.
- "We loved the views. twas wonderful to sit on the deck in the evening with a glass of wine. Also used the kayak; thanks for that. Also having morning coffee watching the seaplane land and take-off was brilliant." - "What an amazing place! Can't praise this slice of heaven enough. Just the view makes the whole experience worthwhile, but the fact that I found in the mini fridge all the necessity for many mimosas and homemade scones was the icing on top. If you come during summer time, I would say bring a little fan(which I did) as it gets pretty toasty in there. The bed is sooo comfortable and the wildlife makes the whole experience so much more magical. I felt like snow white the entire trip, treasure hunting every morning on low tide. Really, I can't recommend this place enough. Will definitely come back."

- "Cute little cottage steps from the lake - nicely appointed with everything you need for a relaxing getaway. The bedding is definitely on point. Thanks for everything!" - "The picture for the property made us believe the property was on the water but realized afterward that it is the other side of the street. However, there is access to the dock on the lake side of the street." - "My family recently had the pleasure of spending a relaxing week at the Shawnigan Lake Cottage. The cottage is nestled in the trees, a welcome reprieve from the scorching temperatures this week. The owners had done an excellent job of maintaining the place and making it feel like a home away from home. The rustic charm of the interior décor added to the overall ambiance, setting the stage for a tranquil and relaxing stay. One of the standout features of this cottage was the breathtaking views it offered from the deck. The upper and lower deck was ideal for morning coffees and evening dinners, providing outstanding views over the lake. What truly made this cottage stay exceptional was the access to the dock. This amenity provided a gateway to endless adventures on the lake. In addition to the outdoor activities, the surrounding area also had plenty to offer. The owners were hospitable and ensured we had everything we needed for a comfortable stay. Our stay at the cottage was perfect ~ I can't wait to return!"

Nestled in a fir and arbutus forest, this recently renovated and professionally decorated separate, private cottage is behind our home on a 2.5-acre property on the Malahat. The huge picture windows and vaulted ceilings make you feel like you are living in a treehouse. The fully equipped kitchen has a full size range, microwave, fridge/freezer, and 18” dishwasher. The dining table seats 4. The living area has a new sofa with a comfy pullout queen-size memory foam mattress. There is a 36” TV with ROKU in the living room, so you can watch your own Netflix, Prime, etc, account and a DVD player with many movies in the cupboard. The electric fireplace feels cozy in winter. There is an in window air conditioner in summer months. On the other side of the entry you will find the bedroom with king size pillow top medium firm mattress, ceiling fan, bedside reading lamps and a lap top size desk that can be used for those working from home or for hair and makeup as there is a large mirror above it. In the large closet, you will find hanging space for your clothing, a stacked washer and dryer , as well as an iron and ironing board. The bathroom is accessed from the bedroom and has a shower only, with excellent water pressure, a comfort height toilet, and vanity with storage and a hair dryer with mirrored medicine cabinet above to store your toiletries. A heated tile floor in the bathroom. Immerse yourself in nature here. Numerous varieties of birds, deer, and on occasion, bears and cougars have been seen from the windows. There is an outdoor dining table for 2 and comfortable patio furniture that can be used in numerous spots on the large wrap around covered deck with retractable awning in one area. A propane BBQ is provided for your use.
We have severe ALLERGIES in our household and extended family who also use the cottage, so we cannot accommodate any animals. We also use unscented laundry detergent and no fabric softener. We understand fragrance sensitivities.
This is a NO SMOKING property. 🚭
We don’t recommend this property for toddlers or young kids for safety reasons outdoors. We plan to upgrade in the future. There are 3 natural, uneven stone steps from the path onto the deck with handrail.
There are exterior metal roll down window shutters that make great black out for sleeping as well as fabric blinds inside. Due to the proximity of the TransCanada highway, some people may notice some traffic noise during the day. It’s very quiet at night.
Located just minutes off the TransCanada Hwy, the only road leading "up island" as the locals say, gives you quick access to this scenic drive leading to many tourist attractions north of Victoria as well as getting you to the inner harbour downtown Victoria in 30 mins. • The Malahat Skywalk is now open and is just on the other side of the summit.

- "I can't even begin to tell you how lovely this place was. It was so unbelievably clean and comfortable. The sofa bed was a dream. It was in a beautiful location close to so much and yet in the middle of the forest with great walking ( if you like hills). Now on to the hosts, Caroline and Allan saved me. My vehicle broke down and they rescued me,and made sure we got everything we needed. I will most certainly go back here any chance I get!! Lovely cottage with amazing lake access. We had two families of three people each, and kids and adults alike had a fabulous time (could have handled more people). The kids were in and out of the water all day, and I would watch from the deck or hang out on the dock. We had adults in the main floor rooms and kids up in the beautiful loft (with their own bathroom). Other highlights included: meals on the deck, movie nights (with the fun DVD collection, and also great cable), campfires, sauna with lake view for the cooler days, swimming across the lake each morning, trip to the Hand of Man Museum. The cabin had plenty of room and amenities, was perfectly decorated and immaculately clean. The property itself was absolutely stunning. While remote enough to feel like the only cabin on the island, it is close enough to anything you might need. The hosts, Sheila and Frank, were beyond lovely. Rest, Relax and Rejuvenate!!!
This peaceful rural cottage is nestled in the forest among a cluster of cabins on the Koksilah River. BBQ or soak in the hot tub on the private deck or explore the area. Swim in the river only steps away or stroll to the historic Kinsol Trestle Bridge. A short drive will take you to the wineries, golf courses, parks, whale watching tours, horse trails and much more. The cottage is centrally located to explore Shawnigan Lake, Cowichan Bay, Duncan or Victoria.
The space
This space is truly a weekend escape for two - complete with private hot tub on the back deck. Formerly owned and operated by Monie. Here are some excerpts from the perfect 5/5 star ratings for our newly purchased AIR BNB cottage:
"I can't say enough to recommend this place. It is the perfect spot for a retreat - it is peaceful and secluded while not feeling isolated (other cabins in the area but you won't notice the neighbours, except for the deer that might visit while you indulge in the hot tub!) This cabin is like having your own private spa in the woods, from the hot tub to big soaker tub and lovely shower, to fully equipped kitchen, comfy couch, and massive bed, it is full on comfort and luxury. The location is perfect too - makes an easy drive from Victoria for a weekend getaway, is close to lots of fun things to do (I recommend the cider for delicious food and drink), but also perfectly suited to just staying in and relaxing. We'll be back for sure!"
"The perfect little getaway from the city! We were looking for a cozy little cabin in the woods with all the amenities we would need to enjoy our weekend whether we decided to stay in or go out, and we found it at the Kinsol Cottage."
"Fantastic weekend getaway! Hot tub in the woods, under the stars, sound of the river rushing nearby. Super cozy cabin, well equipped, and just an hour outside of Victoria BC."
"The location is perfect, we were able to go wine tasting at a local winery in under 15 minutes. We also visited the Kinsol Trestle and local bakery. The bed was beyond comfy, the bath tub spacious and the heated bathroom floors heavenly on a cold snowy day."
"The kinsol cottage getaway is just what the doctor ordered! Superb environment to get away from the hustle and bustle of everyday city life. Very relaxing and friendly neighbours. What a beautiful winter getaway with the nearby hiking trails as an extra bonus."
"Liz's cabin was absolutely perfect. It was exactly as advertised, quiet, clean, and relaxing. The hot tub was wonderful and the kitchen was nicely stocked. I would highly recommend this destination!"
Guest access
This space is yours to enjoy in private. Prior to your arrival, you will receive an access code from your host to unlock your private retreat.
Other things to note
The cottage is located in a rural setting despite being only minutes away from Shawnigan Lake. Wireless internet is readily available but good cell phone reception is not. However, there are some hot spot areas where reception can be found. There is a landline telephone on site for local and/or emergency calls only. Also, during the winter months snow might be an occasional concern. Use of an appropriate vehicle for the conditions in the area at the time of your booking is highly recommended. In addition, the stairs in the cottage to the loft are steeper than normal. People with mobility issues should consider this before booking our cottage. However, descending the stairs backwards as you would a ladder does simplify things for most people with concerns. Otherwise, unless intoxicated, this should not be a concern!!!

Welcome to our West Coast Retreat!
Step inside this charming cottage where Cape Cod and Scandinavian designs meet and inspire slow living. Situated above the beautiful Koksilah River, this cottage has a breathtaking view of the river, idyllic swimming hole and the surrounding forest of towering Douglas Fir and Western Red Cedars. Awareness of nature and a desire for tranquil, cozy living have influenced this functional, comfortable, and attractive space.
The space
With lots of room to spread out, the owners have created two lovely sleeping areas; a private main floor bedroom with a comfortable double bed and large closet, and a lower level walkout with a queen sized bed and single bed with trundle. Two full bathrooms one with shower and the other with a tub/shower combination ensures no guest will be left waiting to freshen up. The spacious kitchen comes fully equipped with everything you may need to prepare a delicious meal to enjoy inside at the ample harvest table or outside on the covered deck overlooking the forest and river valley. The loft area provides room to stretch out and enjoy a movie, sink into conversation with a drink, or play one of the many board games available in the comfortable seating area. A favorite for both families and couples, the space is open and inviting with lots of natural light. An easy to operate gas fireplace keeps the cottage cozy during the winter season and a large ceiling fan provides cooling in the summer.
Outdoors you will find three separate, unique spaces; a front porch for morning sun and coffee, a lower level patio out back offering a private space to layout a yoga matt for some morning stretching and an upper patio off the kitchen, providing a cozy seating area to curl up and enjoy a book listening to the sounds of nature. The carefully thought-out interior and exterior spaces function very well for a family of five or two couples to enjoy this retreat. Wireless internet connection is readily available, but cell reception is not. We encourage guests to enable wifi calling on your phone. Cell reception can be picked up near gate and is strong at Kinsol Trestle parking lot.

The King bed is in the large front room which also has a sitting and dining area. The bedding is 100% cotton from either Ikea or Polo.
Amenities are basic, yet complete: An electric Stove/Oven. There is microwave, a French Press, a Cuisinart Coffee Maker and a Tea Kettle. Plenty of coffee and tea available.
The bathroom is small with a toilet, sink and cabinet. The shower is outside the bathroom in an unusual format -- however, there is a screen for privacy. The Land is run on a state of the art septic system (put in brand new for all buildings in 2019) and there is only fresh, clean Vancouver Island Ocean air to be breathed in by all.
Nestled at the foot of a Great Firs, you can enjoy walking in the neighborhood, drive a short way to the trail heads for hikes and have a medatitive rests on the beach.
You can use the Cottage as a home base to tour one of the many local Cowichan vineyards, restaurants and eateries, and guests are very happy to bring back their wares and eat in the beauty of the beach and the surrounding areas.
It is important to note that the Cottage is also located beside internationally-known "Green Point Project" which is now complete. This project aspires to be the healthiest, most sustainable residential dwelling in the world with Passive House, Living Building Challenge and Green Shores certifications. On the far side of the property is the Prodigy Movement NeuroMovement® Centre.
The owners do live on site, and there are two boys on the land (13 adn 16) who are quiet and the older (who has mild special needs but is very loving and friendly) is often curious about guests -- however they are very respectful of space.
Please Note: This is strictly NON SMOKING Land. This Land is deeply ecologically sensitive and is 6.25 acres of endangered Garry Oak woodland -- risk of fire is very high in the summer. No combustion of any kind is permitted on this Land, thank you. Please do not book if anyone in your party is a smoker of any kind (and if you are unsure, please do ask everyone to confirm, thank you!). Smoke residue found in the Sanctuary or on the Land will be subject to a $500 fine, and will be cause for immediate termination of the rental, thank you!
** Friendly note** You may note one lone odd recent negative review. We were quite devastated to receive this as it is contrary to virtually everyone else's experiences over the past 4 years of the Cottage rental. Upon further discussion with Airbnb, we determined that that this individual sought to receive a full refund on her week long stay (during which there were no complaints to us) by accusing the Cottage of being unsanitary, uncomfortable and having pests with no proof of any kind. Sadly, these scams do exist within the Airbnb world and the company is well aware. However, as we take all such accusations extremely seriously, and to clear our good name, we had Victoria-based pest control company Pest in The City come and give the Cottage a thorough inspection which came out unsurprisingly clear and glowing: no evidence of pests of any kind. You may contact this third party professional company if you wish further confirmation (they welcome it) or ask us to send you the certification -- we'd be most happy to! In terms of cleanliness, the Cottage is presented as it is in the photos: pristine, clean, and cozy, rest assured. Our cleaners pride themselves on their work and yet we are always looking to improve and welcome feedback. This experience has only strengthened our resolve to forge ahead with the most positive experiences possible for our guests and also that we desire to welcome those on the Land who seek to benefit from this precious place in the world. It is very special.
We so look forward to welcoming you! Please reach out if you have any further questions.
