ABOUT THIS SPACE

According to legend, Brigadoon is a village in the Scottish Highlands that has fallen under a magical spell. It must remain unchanged and removed from the world, except for one day every 100 years, when it briefly reappears. Like its namesake, “Brigadoon is a place that is idyllic, unaffected by time, or remote from reality”.

Inspired by the mythical tale, our Brigadoon is a place of sanctuary, beauty & heart, perfect for exploring the Puget Sound & Olympic Peninsula with endless walking trails in the National Forest. THE YURT

The 24’ Yurt features a private entrance and dedicated gardens. It is a short walk to the ocean, a brief drive to town, a scenic ride to the Olympic Mountains and a day's journey to the farthest reaches of the West Coast of America.
The Yurt at Brigadoon is a perfect place to relax, breathe in the scents of the garden in the summer, enjoy the outdoor fireplace, meditate, read, journal, offer prayers and immerse yourself in self care.

GUEST ACCESS

The Yurt stands alone on the property. The luxuriously large bathroom offers an extra-long soaking tub with shower, and radiant heated floors to pamper your tired feet after a long day of hiking. There is a cozy lounge area on the covered deck leading into the yurt as well as seating amidst the abundant gardens and statuary on the property. The indoor kitchenette comes complete with microwave, toaster, coffee maker, and refrigerator. Provisions for outdoor rustic cooking are available on the covered front deck, along with a propane stove.

OTHER THINGS TO NOTE

We have one small dog named George who lives with us on the property. He is 9 years old and only wants affection. One of George’s magical talents is that he never barks. He is super well behaved & loves people.

We value the health of our guests as well as the environment. We use only natural, organic, unscented cleaning supplies and laundry detergent.

Brigadoon is a quiet place of relaxation, contemplation, and presence. This is a sanctuary space & not a home for partying. If your desire is to unwind with a small libation, please enjoy. However, this is not a space for intoxication or loud events. We hold this shared space as a nourishing home and getaway for ourselves and our guests. Port Hadlock-Irondale has a rich history of the old iron working days, and ruins and kilns can be found on the beach. The water’s edge is a 7 min walk from the Yurt and provides peaceful, tranquil getaway with beautiful views of the Puget sound & a walking trail along the coast. The neighborhood is an eclectic mix of old houses from the iron working days, as well as artists and the eccentric thinkers of our time.

Just five minutes from the Yurt, the small village of Port Hadlock offers basic essentials such as a post office, grocery store, pharmacy, and laundromat. Chimacum, just a few minutes away, is a neighboring town that has an abundance of farms & offers the Chimacum Corner Farmstand. Finnriver Cidery & Farm has an array of homemade botanical & fruit ciders with a small delicious menu of food & live music just 6 minutes from the Yurt.

Downtown historical Port Townsend is 15 mins from the Yurt and has many restaurants & shops with lovely waterfront views.

Designed around a family setting and flexibility, the modern structures are ideal for sharing time together in the yard or enjoying food with friends around the large table on the deck.

It is located next to an farm in the geographical center of Port Townsend. (Up at the top of the hill from the golf course). There is a great green belt to the north that has lots of trails. A 5 min drive and you are either in Victorian downtown Port Townsend or at the nearby Worden St Park which has great beaches and an old light house. You can read about lots of the great restaurants there and the French bakery (Pane D'Amore).

- "Great place for a large family to stay. Three on site buildings, so everyone can have a place of their own. Landscaping provides lots of privacy." - "This VRBO compound has really nicely arranged primary and guest quarters – we utilized both throughout our entire stay and it would work well as a connected basecamp that also allows several groups their own privacy. It’s located in a neighborhood community with shared central green space for the 7-8 small houses in the circle; a small farm is across the street. We found the design and layout to be extremely thoughtful in maximizing the relatively small lot; everything in both the house and garden feels like they fit the lot like a glove. The VRBO has really good visual privacy, but noise travels throughout the neighborhood community, and conversations in backyards carry easily across the central green space. The guest quarters, in particular, are located in very close proximity (perhaps only 10-20 feet) from a neighbor; this was largely a non-issue for us and likely would be a non-issue for many, but if noise privacy is highly important, or if you want to have loud parties, please keep the close proximity in mind. The immediate 7-8 house community backs up to a dead-end street with hiking trail access almost immediately behind the property – these trails connect all through the PT area, and are such a nice resource for runs and walks. The house is also a fantastic base camp for exploring local, state, and national parks (5-minute drive to Fort Worden; hiking trail in back yard leads to ocean bluff ~20 minute walk). In terms of provisions, the primary quarters have a king bedroom with desk workspace, bathroom, laundry, full kitchen and living space; the guest quarters have a queen bedroom with mini fridge/microwave, bathroom, and bunkbeds tucked in near the entryway. The full kitchen includes apartment-sized refrigerator and dishwasher, stove/oven, and complement of pots, pans, utensils, and dishes. We didn’t meet Ryan in person but he was very communicative via text and made us feel at home throughout the stay."

Charming 1 bedroom cottage nestled in a secret garden. It is very quiet and private yet only minutes from the beach and downtown Port Townsend. A queen sized bed is in the bedroom. Activities in the area include beach combing, dining, music, festivals, art galleries, antiquing, biking etc. For adventurous folks, Port Townsend is surrounded by water and ideal for kayaking, SUPing, sailing, boating, and fishing. We are close to the gorgeous Olympic mountains for exceptional hiking and sight seeing. 30 day minimum.

- "The owner didn’t seem aware of significant issues: in particular a toilet that would not stop heavy- breathing, and swarms of mosquitoes in both the front and back yard. Though she immediately took care of the first problem by putting up mesh in the doorways, it took her a long time to deal with the increasingly irritating sound of the toilet. The place was therefore less than peaceful. Finally, she suspected me of taking some of her dishes - not true. I recommend counting what she has with her at the beginning of the visit, since she evidently didn’t know. For sure, check out the toilet. If it’s noisily breathing every second, you’ll be bothered. The privacy and natural setting is excellent. However, the kitchen is as bare minimum as it gets, and the bedding needs replacement."

Our cottage was once a workshop for a local craft builder, and it shows! A high arched ceiling gives the feel of a larger open space, and the bathroom features grouted natural riverstone and a stone vanity sink. The style is rustic with Indonesian and Mexican folkloric influences. A full kitchen with a dishwasher displays the creative use of space with live edge shelving and purple heart trim. An abundance of storage space provides plenty of area to put away your belongings before you step out to explore the area. Alternately, you could just stay inside. With radiant floor heating and an electric fireplace, the cottage is the perfect place to get cozy and watch a movie via one of the internet entertainment platforms available to guests.

A quarter mile away is Kah Tai Lagoon, named after the S'Klallam village that was here prior to the American take over of the region. It has nice trails for bird watching. A little further down road is the half a century old Port Townsend Food Co-op, Pourhouse Taproom, Propolis Brewing, Blue Moose Cafe, and Sunrise Coffee Co. If you continue on for a mile or so, you'll arrive in the historic downtown district of Port Townsend. With beautiful Victorian architecture preserved since the 19th Century, you'll have an amazing experience going door-to-door through the many boutique shops, art galleries, eating at the fine local restaurants, or viewing a movie at the celebrated art house Rose Theater.

Alternately, you might like taking a walk to the Uptown District. There, you'll find Aldrich's Market (the oldest grocery store in the state), Pan D'Amore Bakery, and other fine stores and restaurants. Every Saturday between April and December, part of Uptown's streets are closed for the famed Jefferson County Farmer's Market (consistently rated as one of the best in the state!) where local farmer's and crafts people sell a variety of high quality and unique products.

For a town our size, you'll find a variety of things to do each week with festivals happening year round. Some of the annual events include the Acoustic Blues Festival, Jazz Festival, Kinetic Sculpture Race, Wooden Boat Festival, StrangeBrew Fest, Port Townsend Film Festival, The Thing,Local Arts & Crafts Fair, Victorian Holidays, and monthly Art Walks.

Of course, being the wooden boat capital of the Western Hemisphere and being surrounded by the sea, there are plenty of activities for those that love the water. There are also easy nature walks in Fort Worden or nearby Fort Flagler, and the Olympic National Park can be accessed less than a hour away.

Many people come to Port Townsend for months at a time as they use our beautiful hamlet as a retreat from the bustle of the oustide world, or as a staging ground for day trips around the Olympic Peninsula and Puget Sound. Once your here, you'll easily understand why you made your destination

Recently re-styled, Cedar Grove Cottage provides you a respite away from the hustle - bustle of the urban setting within "the village in the woods by the bay", Port Ludlow. Keeping true to the natural theme of the 70's and its cool vibe, we remodeled our cottage so modern creature comforts of today are available to our guests including: Fully functional kitchen featuring new stainless steel appliances, ductless energy -efficient heating keeping you warm, and comfort-centered home furnishings with easy access wifi, a smart tv, and a bunch of games for that lazy afternoon.

For over 40 years, the Cedar Grove Cottage has been a true family retreat; though the kids have grown-up, and moved on, now, it can be a part of your family tradition or serve as a special secret romantic spot for you and yours.

​We have done our best to build upon the warmth, comfort, and beauty which has been Cedar Grove all these years. Now, we have re-designed our cottage so you can easily slip into the cottage with convenience and ease: The bath and the kitchen have been upgraded to today's standards and we curated a number of special artifacts to create a unique experience; incorporating the original 70's style with one of a kind discoveries and treasures.

All in all, you will want your vacation to last forever. However, your memories of a wonderful stay will linger till your next visit. And support a more resilient you!

The studio is great for a romantic getaway because of the the beautiful island setting, the view, the water and the spacious yard. It is close to Port Townsend & accessible by bridge! There are parks, art and culture, dining, and tastings nearby and in Port Townsend. Mystery Bay access for paddle-boards, kayaks, etc., right off the property.

There is a king-size bed, sitting area, dining table, full kitchen, and bathroom with washer/dryer. We follow the Airbnb cleaning protocol.

The space
The apartment is great for couples. The building has a warm wood interior. And a view of the Oyster/Clam Company and Mystery Bay out the window. There are chairs for sitting near the bank and enjoying the view. The king-size bed is very comfortable and there is a sitting area, a dining table, a full kitchen, and a separate bathroom with washer/dryer. We provide coffee, tea, milk & sweetner & a few other amenities. The QFC grocery store is 15 minutes away, if you want to cook (china, pots and pans included. We have recently upgraded the Wifi, but some cell phone service is spotty (we are out on an island).
... NOTE 1: The Guest House has a metal roof which makes some noise as the weather changes. We call it "The Ghost". We provide ear plugs, but no one seems to use them.
... NOTE 2: The property has a "low bank" with direct access to the water and a "high bank", which can be dangerous if you walk to close too the edge. Due to the high bank conditions, we will not accept children under 18 in the Guest House.
...NOTE 3: We follow the Airbnb "Committment to Clean" protocol.

Guest access
The entrance to the studio is down our driveway and left past the main house and garage. There is no lockbox, I will send you an email with instructions.
Watch out for the well head in the middle of the driveway. You'll have access to the apartment, the yard, the tidelands and the Bay.

Other things to note
There are plenty of activities in the area: Fort Flagler, hiking paths, exploring the island winery, pottery studio, general store, and swimming. There is kayaking, canoeing, and paddle-boarding right off the back yard in Mystery Bay (bring your own kayaks & paddle-boards or rent from the Nordland General Store). The beach is a tidelands - rocky with oysters and clams. You can picnic or watch the sunset on the grass above the tidelands . There are also organic farms and wine tasting on the island and close by on the Olympic Peninsula.

There is a bridge to Indian Island and a bridge to Marrowstone Island -- no waiting for a ferry!
