Cleanliness well, things were wiped down but not cleaned. New construction, maybe a couple of years ago. Areas nice but you'll have to climb up a steep hill to reach the stores and restaurants. Can't believe that all the reviews I saw were 5 stars and the one 4 star review was the only one that mentioned the loft bed. Definitely a major safety concern unless you're in good overall condition. Owners were on site and helpful with the one interaction I had with them. Also no storage area for personal items except for 5 hangers in a open closet. There is a bed under the couch in the living space if you can't make the climb but opening it up will take up the entire living area. Frankly, just didn't get the whole thing. Compared to other options, take them not this. Regretfully submitted."

Olympic View Cottage is shared property and the host lives on the property adjacent to the cottage. However, everything you are offered is completely separate from the host. You are the only guest in the cottage, with a private entrance, hot tub and deck.
All of this overlooks the spectacular Puget Sound views.

The hot tub is on your own private deck. Hosts (Dave or Eileen) will need to enter the cottage once a day for hot tub maintenance. If guests decide not to leave for the day then we can provide instructions on how to maintain the hot tub with the appropriate chemicals. Hot tubs need to be maintained daily for cleanliness and sanitization. This is what we do for the health and safety for all our guests. Because we do this the hot tub has always been in working condition for current and future guests.

Every other day we change towels out, replenish coffee, and take the garbage out.

When we check our guests in there is a lot of information to go over and a lot for the guest to remember so we have it all documented in our “Guest Book” located in the cottage. You will also find information and menus on local restaurants, wineries, bars, and grocery stores.

Because this is Seattle, there are six excellent coffee shops within just a few blocks, including our favorite half a block away. May through September, the farmers' market on Friday afternoons is a great place to find delicious local produce.

Clean: The cottage is all new construction from 2011. We clean professionally between guests and we work to keep the living spaces uncluttered and open. We will follow Vrbo guidelines for cleaning in this time of the pandemic, and we will leave at least three vacant nights between guests. Private: The cottage is a completely self-contained unit detached from our house. The entrance to the cottage is down seven gentle steps (see photo) from our driveway. It includes a kitchenette and a bathroom with a shower stall. Enjoy your own patio for outdoor eating, coffee drinking or reading. You may park off-street in our driveway if you require that.

In a Great location: Easy neighborhood walks will take you to all manner of restaurants, coffee shops, bookstores, and the usual retail attractions of the big city. The Woodland Park Zoo is so close we can hear the siamangs at feeding time. Phinney Ridge rates as “very walkable” with a 79 “Walkability Score.” If you walk over the top of Phinney Ridge, go down to and around Greenlake, and then return to our cottage, you will have taken one of America’s best urban five-mile walks. The location also is perfect for parents visiting children going to the University of Washington or Seattle Pacific U.

Comfortable: The cottage has natural light on all four sides plus a skylight. All the windows have shades (and screens in season.) The bed is a queen-size top-of-the-line convertible couch. [The cushions on the bed were replaced in 2018.] There is plenty of hot water from a dedicated water heater. The mini-kitchen includes a microwave oven with an exhaust fan, a two-burner stovetop, a mini-fridge, an automatic water boiler, a blender, and a toaster. We have supplied the kitchen with the basics if you want to take meals in. There is plenty of short-term storage, free Wi-Fi, a flat-screen TV, and an iPhone hook-up so you can play your own music.

Safe: We live in a quiet neighborhood with families with kids and grandkids. Our cottage is at the end of our driveway and it is illuminated by motion-detection lights and protected by dead-bolt locks.

Attention to detail: Rick Treston, one of Seattle’s true craftsman builders, managed all construction. The bathroom and the foyer are finished with imported Italian tile. The patio features tumbled blue stone pavers. There are hand-finished surfaces throughout. The kitchen counter is granite. The landscaping was designed and installed by Classic Nursery and Landscaping of Woodinville, WA.

Solar powered: As of early 2013, the Phinney Cottage is now powered by solar panels on our property. Go green!

The main cottage is a two bedroom home with a King bed and a second bedroom with 2 twin futons.

Metropolitan Market (a wonderful European 'experience'), PCC Market, Safeway, Starbucks, Trader Joe's are all grocery stores within walking distance. Enjoy a flick at historic Admiral Movie Theater. In addition there are also dozens of popular restaurants nearby to choose from.

Hiawatha park is 2 blocks away if you feel like jogging, playing tennis (rackets provided in shed) going to the kiddie park or wading pool. We have 4 adult bikes and helmets for your use, as well as beach supplies, and tennis rackets and balls! A short drive away, Coleman pool offers a unique outdoor saltwater pool that sits on the scenic shores of Lincoln Park overlooking the Sound. The Admiral Viewpoint boasts one of the best vistas of downtown Seattle and is a 5 minute walk away from the cottage.

This tranquil getaway is perfect for the travel enthusiast with an eye for the unique and artsy! The space
The Banana Cabana is situated in the backyard of our property with the main house at the front. The bungalow is a fully separate unit with your own entrance by keypad. Upon your arrival, your choice of red or white wine or non-alcoholic beverage will be waiting along with a special Seattle treat. Sit along the raw edge wood bar and enjoy a glass!

You are welcome to enjoy any of the yard spaces and we'll be sure to respect your privacy while you relax in these shared areas. The garden in summer is a magical space with stone and stucco fireplace, flowing fountains, comfortable picnic space, many small lights (if desired), flowers and birds. In the colder seasons you are welcome to sit by the fire before you retire inside to the cozy space complete with heated floors and triangle soaking tub.

The living space includes a fun retro record player complete with an ecletic mix of records. You can also relax with your own bluetooth, play CD's, tapes or radio. You'll find a new 55" screen TV that pulls out to swivel toward living room or bed. We have Netflix, Hulu and Amazon Prime options available (and cable live TV through Hulu). The house is wifi enabled. We'll be there to help get you online. Large windows open out to the garden and a large skylight above create a bright and cheery space.

The bedroom is part of an open floor plan designed for one or two people. A comfy king size bed is made up with luxurious quality sheets, comforter and quilt. Overhead, you'll find a rattan fan to cool the room if needed. In cooler months, you'll find the floors toasty warm and wall heaters for your control. Cozy robes await your arrival.

A cute kitchen is fully stocked with dishes and accessories for all your cooking needs. We'll leave the basics such as sugar, seasonings, cooking oil, coffee and tea to help you get started. A hand cut raw-edge wood bar with bar stools look out into the garden and provide a great spot for a relaxing meal. We also have convenient electronic charging at the bar and at the record player.

The bath is well stocked with soft fluffy towels, hairdryer, shampoo, conditioner and body wash. Kick back after a day of sightseeing in the triangle tub with a glass of wine.

New May 2017 Classic Seattle Craftsman Backyard Cottage, nestled in a quiet private setting, at the SW corner of vibrant Phinney Ridge. The natural light filled cottage with exposed beam has an inviting open upper floor plan with high ceilings and large windows. This is a stand alone house with no occupants above or below you.

Stroll to shopping and dining, coffee, grocery stores, Woodland Park Zoo and the Rose Garden. Perfectly situated between Wallingford, Greenlake, Fremont and Ballard. Enjoy the Ballard Locks and Brewery District, Golden Gardens, Fremont Troll, and Greenlake’s 2.8 mile path around lake with beaches, wading pool, children’s play area’s and public boat rentals. Use transit for a short ride to South Lake Union, Downtown, Seattle Pacific University, and University of Washington. Street parking is free and available.

Upon entering find gleaming white oak floors, classic millwork and eye-catching lighting. Our Cottage sleeps 2 people. You’ll find a queen sized bed in a private room that closes off with a solid wood pocket door. Please keep in mind the cottage is only 550 square feet and could be tight for some people (I.e. when considering luggage storage), but completely doable. The closet in the bedroom is large and there is also some storage in the bathroom/laundry room. Some travelers may find the space is too small for their liking. The cottage does have an interior set of stairs as the main living is on the upper floor. The bathroom is on the first floor allowing for privacy. Could possibly be a concern for younger travelers not accustomed to stairs. Stairs are nicely illuminated with stair lighting. Flat screen TV w/cable and Wifi included. Children books, toys, high-chair and Pack-n-Play available upon request. Street parking is available.

Our studio has tall ceilings and big windows making it light & bright. It has a queen sized bed, allowing for a maximum of 2 adults in a studio setting. The studio is especially great for one couple. There is a 42” smart tv and a desk where you can set up your laptop to take advantage of our high-speed wireless internet. In addition to a closet full of games, there is also a pinball machine and shuffle board for you to use.

In the kitchen, you will find a refrigerator, oven/stove, coffee maker, and microwave. The cabinets are filled with all the dishes and equipment you may need during your stay. We stock coffee and some pantry items to get you started. The bathroom includes all the necessities and a few extras. It has a shower only, no bathtub.

The studio is situated on the North side of the main house and next to the Charlestown Water Tower. The yard is a pleasant place to relax.

Although you may feel comfy cozy nestled inside the quiet, peaceful studio, you will be just a few blocks from the heart of our neighborhood. Walk down the street to the West Seattle Junction, a pedestrian hotspot with excellent artwork, antiques, coffee shops, great restaurants, a pharmacy, grocery stores, year-round Sunday Farmer’s Market and nightlife.

You are also just a short distance from Alki Beach, Lincoln Park and the Elliot Bay Water Taxi. Alki Beach is a great place for summer fun and beautiful views of downtown; Lincoln Park is great for a hike in the woods or a dip in the saltwater swimming pool (in the summer). The Elliot Bay Water Taxi from Seacrest Pier to downtown Seattle is a great way to experience amazing views on a quick ride to downtown and avoid downtown parking. By car, downtown Seattle is just 10 minutes. Or, another great hassle-free option is to hop on a metro bus and ride just 15-20 minutes.

This charming cottage is a stand-alone home in a quiet neighborhood, close to Woodland Park Zoo, Sunday Ballard Farmer's Market, Fremont, Wallingford, and more. Complete with a washer/dryer, large shower with seat, and heated bathroom floors. Parking is under the cottage in a private garage (for mid-size SUVs or smaller...larger vehicles might not fit). The cottage has a full kitchen and quality furnishings.

The cottage is located above a private one-car garage, reserved for cottage guest use at no additional charge. Bedroom offers a queen bed, dresser and closet space. A high end Crate and Barrel sleeper sofa is available as a second bed in the living room to create a 2 bed sleeping configuration for up to 3 guests.

PARKING: The driveway in front can accommodate two vehicles, with enough room for an RV if needed. There is also plentiful street parking.

The cottage is located a few hundred feet up the hill from Thornton Creek and is in a very lush, green, and forested area. Bird Song is abundant.

The main floor has a well stocked, full kitchen, 3/4 bath and large hang out space with new furniture. Double French doors along with windows and vaulted ceiling feed light everywhere. There’s a piano should you be so inclined to tickle some ivory.

The upstairs is carpeted and has a new queen bed, 1/2 bath, washer and dryer, and TV.

There is an east facing covered front porch with a sitting area for morning sunshine or bright gray cloud watching.

The backyard is available to you with a ping pong table and BBQ. However, please note we love our backyard as well, and you might see us there.

SLEEPING ARRANGEMENT DETAILS:

The loft sleeps 2 people in the queen bed and 1 young child on the chaise lounge.

The grey couch shown in the downstairs photo folds out to sleep 1-2. It’s a full size sleeper.

A Japanese Shikibuton floor mattress can be rolled out anywhere on the cottage floor (up or down) and sleeps 1. It can also be added to the top of the sleeper sofa to add comfort.

Our space feels big with all the light and high ceilings and there is flexibility in how it gets arranged for sleeping. It technically sleeps 5 but it’s up to you to decide if it would sleep YOUR 5. Please review the details and photos carefully. We want you to be comfortable in the space! Thank you.

THE NEIGHBORHOOD:

Walk or bike on the the famous Burke Gilman Trail (3 blocks away), or take a neighborhood stroll to the City of Seattle's Matthews Beach Park on Lake Washington (10 minutes), or walk in the other direction to Meadowbrook pond and the Meadowbrook Community Center with indoor pool (1 mile).

Our property is very close to the # 75 busline on Sand Point Way (3 blocks).

We also hope you have the time to just chillax in our beautiful backyard to enjoy your private patio, while watching local bird life.

If you decide to stroll 4 houses down the street to the bridge over Thornton Creek for whatever reason, there is one of the most awesome willow trees you will ever see. Heck, there might even be salmon or beaver in the creek if you are tremendously lucky.

Charming funky cottage in the heart of one of Seattle’s best neighborhoods, Wallingford. While there is plenty of parking, you may not even need your car to enjoy what Seattle has to offer, as my 1905 home has a Walk Score of 91 and Bike Score of 85.

The space
This is one of the original houses in the Wallingford neighborhood, built in 1905. It was built at the very back of the lot (though in 1905 it was at the base of a small hill, now my neighbor's back yard), and subsequently has a big front yard and plenty of air space around the house. Many of the houses in Wallingford are built quite close together, but my house has clear access to sunshine and garden views, particularly on the south side.

The neighborhood used to be covered by an apple orchard, and we have one of the original trees, a Gravenstein apple tree.

Guest access
Since this is a room in a house, you have full access to the shared places in the house: kitchen, living room, shared bathroom, yard. You know, like a normal house.

During your stay
While I'm quite social, I can adjust to whatever level of interaction/non-interaction you prefer. As this is my home, I will be in and out of the house just like any other day.

Other things to note
Please note that the house is a work in progress! While the house is all that one would expect in a home - warm, safe, quiet, and cozy - it has been radically transformed over the last 15 years and is still undergoing the final bits and pieces of a massive remodel. If you are expecting a completed work of art of a house, well, we're not there yet: windows need trim, some walls need paint, the stairs inside the house are still construction treads (very strong and functional, just ugly), the tub surround needs tile. But if you like warm, cozy and a bit out of the ordinary, this is the place for you!

The quiet and cozy Captain’s Cottage is an homage to the unique history of Ballard, where a large population of Scandinavians worked in the boat building industry at the turn of the 20th century. Inside showcases many treasures from the Captain’s seafaring travels. The house is situated on a corner lot with a front and back yard, where one can sit under the shade of fruit trees or take a walk to explore the neighborhood full of great restaurants, cafes and breweries with outdoor seating.

The space
The cottage is cozy inside. Living room and kitchen are ample, bedroom with double (full) bed and bathroom with full claw foot tub are smaller in scale. ATTENTION TALL HUMANS: The cottage has 7’ ceilings and the lowest door clearance is 6’ high, although most are an inch or 2 higher. If you are very tall, this may not be the place for you.

Lots of outdoor space, spacious front yard and small back yard with additional outdoor seating

Guest access
You will have the entire cottage (residential home) to yourself. There is a large front yard and a small backyard with outdoor tables and a dedicated BBQ for your use.

Our cottage has an open loft style floor plan. Spacious, quiet, and light filled. 1.5 baths and 2 stories. Modern and elegant finishes on everything. Main floor has 1/2 bath off kitchen, and there is a full bathroom with shower near the bed located upstairs. It is a stand alone “guest house” in the back yard of the main house. Private parking right near the front door! Yard has fire pit, outdoor furniture and BBQ. A hidden oasis, right in the middle of the Ballard neighborhood.

The space
This is a new, modern space. It is a loft style house. We call it the oasis because it’s almost hidden from the street at the back of the property. Has a great yard with a fire pit and bbq. Perfect for summer evenings. The bedroom is upstairs and is open to the stairs, therefore we don’t recommend bringing small children or toddlers.

This is a great place to unwind from your adventures through the city and it's vibrant activities! Easily accessible to Discovery Park outdoors and beach adventures!
This 1943 WWII charmer is a single leveled, standalone cottage next to the old Ft Lawton within Discovery Park. With it's original fir flooring in the kitchen and California oak throughout is Reminiscent of WWII cottages that used to surround the Fort but now mostly gone. The cottage has a 5ft iron enameled bathtub original to the cottage! The fenced backyard is private, quiet and peaceful frequented by raccoons, squirrels, rabbits, birds and neighborly cats. The back deck is perfect for yoga, meditation and self discovery!
Our cozy cottage has an open common space layout with original photography/artwork wall decor ready to create Happy Memories!
We only host one booking at a time so the space is not shared.

You have the cottage to yourself!
The house is accessed by 23 stair steps from the city sidewalk therefore we are unable to host anyone needing ADA or mobility access.
Our organic yard is made for native pollinators to thrive and improve the soil.
The front yard has a bench for your morning coffee.
The private backyard has a deck with outdoor seating.
For your safety, backyard access beyond the deck is not recommended! :)

Other things to note
Magnolia village (business section) has a French bakery, coffee shops,bookstore and family friendly eateries! Close by is Discovery Park with remnants of old Fort Lawton (a decommissioned Military Base), the Day Break Star Native American Center and the Beautiful Historic Lighthouse with a shuttered Coast Guard building along the Beach! North Magnolia is bordered by the Ballard Locks/Shipping Canal where you can watch the ship traffic to and from Lake Union and Lake Washington!
Towards the Ballard bridge on the Northeast side is The Fisherman's Terminal (with a memorial to Fishermen lost at sea) hosting some quaint shops, and restaurants.
