- "We loved our stay at this amazing home. It is beyond gorgeous inside and out. Note that there are stairs to approach. Well equipped and very peaceful. We hope to return again!" - "The views were stunning! Everything was perfectly clean and well stocked for us. Thank you for having us for a wonderful weekend." - "We had the most amazing time at this beautiful vacation rental on Bainbridge Island! The house itself is absolutely stunning—immaculately maintained, with a warm, inviting atmosphere that made us feel right at home from the moment we walked in. The decor is tasteful, and the layout is perfect for both relaxation and entertaining. But what truly set this place apart were the breathtaking views of Mount Rainier. Every morning, we woke up to the sight of the majestic mountain, perfectly framed by the large windows in the living room. It was an unforgettable experience to watch the sunrise and set over the horizon each day, casting beautiful colors across the sky and water. Overall, this rental exceeded all our expectations. Between the stunning house and the unbeatable views of Mount Rainier, we couldn't have asked for a better vacation. We can't wait to return!"

Come and enjoy our South Beach Cozy Cottage.
The Cottage is located on Bainbridge Island in Puget Sound. It has stunning southern views of the Sound, Mt. Rainier, and Washington State Ferries. The Seattle skyline and lights are viewable from the bulkhead and fire pit. It is a fabulous place for a stress-relieving break or more active pursuits.
One of the things we enjoy most about our cozy cottage is watching local wildlife. Bald Eagles are easily seen from the home and deck. Seals, sea lions, cranes and other critters pass by daily. Orcas played off our beach from time to time. What a treat!
At low tide, throw on your water shoes and head to the beach to visit tidal pools brimming with colorful starfish and sea anemones. It’s great for anyone with a curious mind and young at heart. And from time to time, ORCAS SWIM BY!
The Cottage is situated along a popular and busy maritime route with Mt. Rainier as a backdrop. The water is studded with ferries, naval ships (including aircraft carriers and submarines), ocean-going ships, sail boats, yachts, kayaks and even paddleboards. If you like, you can use our 4 kayaks to explore for yourself!
Another option is to use our four (4) hybrid/mountain bikes to ride along the largely flat South Beach Drive into Ft Ward Park and then on to Lynwood Center (Pleasant Beach). Enjoy the art house theatre, bakery, restaurants, cafes, boutiques, ice cream, small grocery and a Sunday farmers' market.
Or visit Winslow, where the Seattle ferry lands and also the Island's primary shopping district. Winslow is 6 miles from the Cottage. You'll find everything you need including groceries, retail therapy, parks, walking trails along Eagle Harbor, movies and many excellent restaurants and pubs/winery tasting rooms.
If you want to play golf there is one on island and several excellent courses in the vicinity.
If gambling is your game, a casino located just off the north end of the Island. For cycling enthusiasts, Bainbridge Island is a well known bike riding destination.
The Island is blessed with trails and walks close to the Cottage, but also throughout the Island.
The Island is home to several award winning wineries and a distillery. The grapes come highly regarded Eastern Washington vineyards. The tasting rooms are eclectic, friendly, fun & scattered through Winslow and around the island.
Or, if you are just looking to get a break from it all, you most certainly can find relaxation and a retreat in our cottage all by itself. No need to leave.
All rooms have water views. The cottage features a beautiful and extremely well-equipped Kitchen.
The very comfortable Living and Dining rooms provide captivating views of the comings and goings on the water and the lights from West Seattle. In the evening, the illuminated ferries will remind you of Christmas ornaments.
The Cottage sleeps six (6):
The 2 Bedrooms have queen beds, flat screen TVs, and hummingbird feeders that attract birds from dawn until sunset – year round. The back bedroom has its own en suite bathroom. The front bedroom is across the hall from the bathroom.
The "Middle Room" has a queen size sofa bed. Firm, comfortable, no back breaking bars to disrupt your slumber. This room also is a “walk thru” room to the 2 bathrooms and 2 bedrooms. So it’s private until someone walks thru.
Both Bathrooms have skylights to gaze at the sky & tree boughs above. The Master Bath has a low curb, walk-in shower with a small seat. The Main Bath has a claw foot tub where you can relax.
The Deck enjoys sun during the morning and early afternoon and then shade in the afternoons. Relax on the outdoor furniture, have a sun-filled breakfast or lunch and watch the eagles soar past.
Continue down the steps towards the water for areas where you can sit and enjoy views of Seattle skyline, relax in a two person hammock, enjoy the fire pit, paddle kayaks, or hop down to the beach to explore tide pools and collect shells and rocks at low tide.
- "It was a delightful stay at the cottage. We enjoyed the deck, including beautiful views when the mountain was out and the sound of sea lions splashing below (literally—it was idyllic). Deb was very communicative and endeavored to ensure we had a lovely stay. The kitchen was well appointed, the rooms and spaces comfortable, and the welcome treats (charcuterie, wine) much appreciated. Overall a wonderful experience and we’d gladly stay again."

ENORMOUS BEACH & SUN ALL DAY. STUNNING VIEWS of Mt. Rainier, Olympics, Sound and Eagle Harbor. Five minutes by car or bus (regular morning/evening schedule or order ahead) to ferry and downtown Winslow or short walk/bike ride.
PLEASE ALSO SEE OUR VIDEO POSTED AS PHOTO #3 PRESENTLY.
Your suite is approximately 750 sq. ft. and consists of a spacious separate bedroom with a roomy walk-in closet; living room with a sofa group and TV cabinet; a good sized kitchen with a dining table that can sit 6 people and double up as your office table; a full bath.
During our remodel, the wood stove on living room photo and some siding has been removed to be re-installed with the rest of all siding repairs at the end of our remodel. We already have brand new windows/entry door and metal roof. The stairs to the beach and a few other things are on the list for future improvements, so please don't expect everything to be in brand new shape, but more like a charming country cottage suite on Bainbridge Island with imperfections!
You have a queen bed in the separate bedroom, a queen sleeper sofa in the living room for sleeping up 4 adults that get along (sleeper sofas has a topper & plywood for individual tastes but not like a real bed!) with an extra charge for more than 2 people. Also a twin-sized air mattress if needed and a fold-out baby crib for the small kids.
Your waterfront beach suite is within the Wing Point Community, which is one of the most established neighborhoods on Bainbridge Island centered around Bainbridge’s only 18 hole golf course. You have a lawn outside your double French doors that has a fantastic view of both Mount Rainier, the Olympic Mountains, the Sound with ships passing by as far as the eye can see and Eagle Harbor with the ferry and lots of boats jetting in and out. Or relax at the patio dining are or at two other outside seating areas, light up your BBQ or gather around the fire pit!
A 50 step staircase leads to your beach area where you can watch the gorgeous sunset over the Olympics from the comfortable beach furniture while you are enjoying your BBQ meal or borrow our kayaks for a ride (you are 100% responsible when using them). Or you can walk on the large beach for miles at low tide including to the ferry or downtown. Or play on the beach that goes out over 300 yards to sandy areas at low tide in the summers where you can almost touch the ferry when it passes by! After dark you can warm yourself in front or your beach fireplace.
With its South facing exposure you have sun virtually the entire day. It’s a very cozy, high quality, light and secure suite with its own private entrance comprising the entire lower level of a gorgeous house where the owners live off and on. Your suite is so very private and soundproof that usually you won't hear us and we won't hear you. You can watch any of over 200 channels on a 32' HD flat screen with DirecTV satellite, record any program on your DVR for easy viewing at your own convenience, order your own Pay-Per-View movie, watch a movie on the VCR or DVD or snuggle up with a good book (we have a good inventory). You have fast WiFi wireless and nationwide free landline phone. Cook a gourmet meal on the gas stove (or the BBQ outside) in the large kitchen.
You can drive in 4 minutes or walk 25 minutes to charming downtown Winslow and the ferry, take a bus to 5 morning ferries and back from 5 evening ferries or call ahead to take a bus to/from anywhere on the island. This is an ideal spot for relaxing, visit with friends and family, explore our beautiful island including use as a stop during boating, live while remodeling or looking for a new house. Or use our suite as a beautiful home base for a Seattle business or social visit since it is within very convenient distance to the ferry like many daily commuters on our island do since they can combine a city work life with great island home life. You can stay for a couple of nights or an extended stay and we have complimentary coffee and tea waiting for you. At the community pool 2 miles away there is a also a hot tub, jacuzzi and a sauna
About 3 days before you arrive, VRBO will send a very detailed access email with transportation tips, very easy access instructions and what to do on the island. Once you arrive in your suite we also have very detailed instructions how to operate everything in your suite and a detailed guide of restaurants, bars and everything else to do in the neighborhood.

- "This was an idyllic spot. More beautiful in person than in the pictures. Quiet, peaceful, a lovely romantic getaway. And so close to downtown for shopping , restaurants, groceries etc. We wish we had stayed longer!" - "The Abode On The Sea is a magical place for a secluded getaway on Bainbridge Island. The accommodations are cute and very quiet and private. We loved sitting on the patio in the evening and watching the sunset while the ferries passed by. We were able to walk to town when we needed as well. Hosts provided very helpful and detailed check-in and check-out instructions and provided "the book" (as we called it) that had lots of instructions on how to get the most out of our stay. Highly recommend the Abode On The Sea!"

- "What an amazing vacation home. The views are incredible. We had a great time from the moment we entered the home until we left days later. Plenty of activities (kayak, cornhole, board games etc.) at the house to keep us busy. And for those of us that just wanted to relax there were plenty of outdoor lounge chairs to hangout in and take in the beautiful scenery. It was so peaceful at the house, it's hard to believe a short walk was all it took to get to the downtown area. The home is very clean and the kitchen is well equipped. The beds are extremely comfortable and everyone had a good nights sleep. I would definitely rent this home again. There wasn’t anything I felt was missing."

- "What a wonderful surprise to come across Deb's darling cottage. It was exactly what we wanted for a long, relaxing weekend - quiet, on the water, close to town. The cottage itself was impeccably clean, beautifully furnished and had all of the supplies we needed to be comfortable and feel at home - Deb even made sure there was cream, salami, cheese, English muffins and jam for us! Check in was easy and Deb gave us all of the information we needed prior to our arrival and we also felt confident that we could contact her during our stay if necessary. Access to kayaks was an added bonus and we had fun cruising through the harbor and watching the herons and seals. If we have the opportunity to go to Bainbridge again, we would most definitely book Deb's place again. Couldn't be better!"

- "Delightful. Location/view unsurpassed. Facilities very adequate. Great contemplative space." - "great sound views, visited by a family of otters 2 of our 3 days" - "Great experience" - "Incredible beachfront property views of Seattle across the sound! Can watch, dolphins, seals, great blue heron, eagles all while seated in an arm chair, looking out the front window!" - "We had an absolute wonderful stay here. The house was perfect for my family of 4. Beds were comfortable, there was enough kitchen supplies for us to make food, and the place was very clean. But the view is why we fell in love with this house. The house is right on the ocean and you have a direct view of the Seattle skyline. We spent hours just looking out at the ocean and even were lucky enough to spot some otters. It was absolutely fabulous and I would stay here again in a heartbeat."

- "Wonderful, cute cabin. Very clean and lovely, tranquil setting. I saw mentions in previous reviews that the upstairs shower didn’t work. It does. You pull the handle straight out instead of just turning. Turn to adjust the temp. The temperature adjustment is very sensitive. Maybe a note in the bathroom with brief instructions would help? Overall a great place." - "Super nice place. Clean. Well furnished. Close to the water." - "Got the home for myself and employees while working nearby. House was exactly as described. Great value, clean, good location. Oven doesn’t work but that was the only thing and we didn’t care. Would definitely stay again."

- "My family and I had a wonderful stay at the guest house. The house is beautifully decorated with lots of lovely art. Each bedroom had plenty of privacy and great views. We were unsure about what it would be like to be situated on a converted horse farm, but we found it enchanting. We especially liked the gorgeous community garden around the corner from the house. We also loved the very short walk down to the secluded Hal's Hill Lookout park which features a one of a kind labyrinth. Stella was easy to communicate with, and we enjoyed learning from her and her partner Len about the area."

- "Our family of four with two little ones absolutely loved our stay! Firstly, the house has everything you need and then some. If you are traveling with kids, trust me when I say they’ll be entertained both inside and outside the house. The side is good. Lots of tv options (Netflix , prime etc) The outside is stunning and the tide river provides hours of excitement for the kids. It’s an east drive to local towns, and the grand forest. It’s a fast ferry into Seattle. But the piece de resistence are the hosts. Mary and Bill think of every detail and go out of their way to go above and beyond. The truly are wonderful people. We look forward to going back and hopefully making it a annual visit."

New Upgrades April 2025 - Hot tub, home theater & design refresh! Just a 9 minute walk to Pritchard Beach & 10 minute drive to downtown Winslow. Lots of natural light and spacious rooms for your family - including your pup.
We bought this home more than 20 years ago when we were just kids and Mark got a job as a naturalist at IslandWood, the environmental education center on the island. Over the years, we have put a lot of love into it and are continually working to provide the most comfortable, relaxing stay we can for you.
While we have made many upgrades, like the new hot tub and home theater added in 2025, it is not "Bainbridge Perfect," nor would we ever want it to be. We want it to be a nice, large, home-away-from-home where you feel comfortable letting your kids and dogs run around, and you can enjoy the sounds of birds in the morning and the quiet footsteps of deer in the yard. In other words, we want it to be the kind of place WE would want to stay with our family and our husky.
When there is sunlight here in the northwest, it will stream in the big windows in the comfortable living room. A fully-stocked kitchen connected to the dining room/sitting area makes entertaining easy and enjoyable. The living room opens to a back deck with a grill and table, and stairs descend into the 1 acre yard for the ultimate in indoor/outdoor living. Three bedrooms and the bathroom complete the upstairs space.
The SEMI-FINISHED BASEMENT is a kids dream with a full rec room featuring a foosball table, cozy couches and a 100" pull-down screen and projector (bring a laptop with an HDMI port to take full advantage of it). The fourth and fifth bedrooms, second bath, and a full size washer/dryer complete the downstairs. PLEASE NOTE THAT THE BASEMENT BEDROOMS ARE IN THE BASEMENT AND ARE, AS A RESULT, NOT AS LIGHT AND AIRY AS THE UPSTAIRS BEDROOMS. They are comfortable and functional, and we have tried to set appropriate expectations, but some people still seem to be surprised.
You are minutes from the beach at Pritchard Park, as well as multiple open-space trails.
Hot tub:
* The hot tub is cleaned every Tuesday. The technician will go directly to the back yard and is usually finished within about 15 minutes.
* To adjust the temperature, press the "up" or "down" arrow.
Lawn maintenance:
The landscapers will mow the lawn and clear the walkways every other week. They usually try to do their work on weekdays and are usually finished within about 30 minutes.

This house fit our needs perfectly and was close by restaurants and parks." - "We needed a property that allowed pets as my daughter was getting married the weekend we stayed. Her dog was the ring bearer and they live in the Green Lake area of Seattle. Owners were VERY responsive to our needs and issues. The main issue is the walkout basement has a musty smell and I recommended they use Damp Rid. The owners are also going to provide more kitchen towels as we only had one to use during our stay."

Please understand that the farm is undergoing constant improvements & various projects may be underway during your visit. We try to keep it tidy but realistically that just isn't always possible. What we truly hope, what our vision from the beginning has been is that all our guests enjoy a unique, peaceful, handcrafted experience that brings each individual that much closer to our planet, respecting her maybe just a little bit more. 9 Mile Farm hopes to provide you with a moment or more of tranquility and a fulfilling escape from society. - "We enjoyed the great interior and amenities. The historic books were a plus!" - "It was great! The hosts were very responsive! Location was very private and quiet. Very cute house. " - "This is a beautiful home and we enjoyed relaxing here very much." - "We had a wonderful stay! The property was so peaceful and reminded me of my grandfather’s home. Easy to get to the home and easy and quick to travel into town or around the island. The beds were comfortable. The house is on a well so water pressure was not the best but it sufficed. Was difficult to find at first as google maps does not get you all the way there but we figured it out eventually."

- "Bainbridge Island’s natural beauty was on display from every window! " - "This home is a great getaway from the stress of daily life. The view was amazing with many different birds to see from the deck. The additional, and separate, smaller home next to main cottage (with a mini fridge, microwave and coffee maker) was great our family/older kids to ‘spread out’. The home was well stocked and had everything we needed for a wonderful stay on Bainbridge Island."

- "Absolutely beautiful home and location. We loved the water right outside the back door and the view of Seattle. It was very quiet - we could hear the water lapping on the shore outside at night!" - "My niece and nephew worked with Pete, the owner who passed away, when they all were at Islandwood together. It was a treat to share it with them.We were here during warm weather this time and with all the windows the house warms up fast. We wish you had A/C as an option. Opening the windows was helpful but with no screens it was challenging with the bugs. We wish there were curtains/shades in the master upstairs."

We have an active 8 year old son. His room is 2 floors above the suite, but you may hear us walking around during your stay. Check out past reviews though - it doesn't seem to be an issue at all, but we like to let people know.
Bainbridge is car-dependent - it doesn't have great public transportation. We are very near the 98 bus line, but this doesn't run all day. You can schedule transporation via BI rides in advance. However, neither of these run on Sunday, and Uber and Lyft are extremely hard to come by. Feel free to reach out if you do not have a car and have questions about public transportation.
There is a security camera in the driveway.
