Forest meets farm in the heart of Bainbridge Island a short 15-minute walk to the Seattle ferry and quaint town of Winslow. Unwind on our small farm in a dome tent nestled under towering trees in a private setting. Enjoy your day relaxing by the seasonal (mid May-Sept) heated pool overlooking the pastures of goats, ducks, pigs and peacocks. Walk bike or drive to one of our local restaurants beaches or parks or take the ferry for easy access to the city and amazing views. A hybrid tipi style canvas bell tent sits atop a reclaimed wooden deck. The uninsulated canvas tent is outfitted with a queen size bed made up European style with feather duvet (no top sheet) and quality linens. Other furnishings include dresser, Keurig coffee/tea service, games/books, space heater, and comfy seating outfitting the inside. The real treat? a spa like private western red cedar bath house bringing you truly closer to nature with the organic design, raw wood finish, and outdoor shower under the trees. Some of the cedar used in the bath house was reclaimed from leftover timber in clear cuts of the Olympic Peninsula. Outdoor loungers, string lights and a fire pit. 9Mile Farm Forest Tipi experience may not be for everyone if you are uneasy without strong wifi, room service, a roof over your head, a lock on a door, early morning farm noises, or really nature this may not be your cup of tea. Be honest with yourself, does this listing sound intriguing or terrifying? if the latter please rethink before booking. Please understand that the farm is undergoing constant improvements & various projects may be underway during your visit. We try to keep it tidy but realistically that just isn't always possible. What we truly hope, what our vision from the beginning has been is that all our guests enjoy a unique, peaceful, handcrafted experience that brings each individual that much closer to our planet, respecting her maybe just a little bit more. 9 Mile Farm hopes to provide you with a moment or more of tranquility and a fulfilling escape from society. My family and I live onsite and most likely are available if questions arise. We are happy to greet you upon arrival and give you a small tour to familiarize yourself with the property. If this is something you would like please let us know and we will do our best to accommodate. Otherwise you won't see us unless you need us, please make yourselves at home. We do want to emphasize that the space is yours to enjoy and share (in the interest of full disclosure) with an occasional owl, deer, forest mouse, mosquito, bee, spider, snail, bat or slug because one will undoubtedly make an appearance.

My home is truly nestled among the evergreens. The living space is perched on the second and third floors with a wraparound porch, exposed beams and wood throughout, and huge windows and skylights, giving you a feeling of being in a treehouse (our nickname for this property). It’s both rugged and grand, inspiring and modest. Outside, the home is surrounded by Western Red Cedar, Doug Fir, ferns, and Salal.
I grow a veggie garden in the summer and raise a few chickens - all yours to enjoy!
The space
A note that this home does not have "lake access", but it IS a 5 min. walk across the street to the shores of Puget Sound, down a hidden road end. The "view" is of the old-growth forest - out every window.
The home is on the second floor (main bedroom and bath) with an enclosed loft on the third floor (2nd and 3rd bedrooms with a shared bathroom) - so there are stairs.
Ground floor is a garage/shop with living quarters and a separate drive and entrance - this is where I stay with my old Great Dane. She is a kind old dog who may visit you, but mostly hairs up all the outdoor furniture getting her 20 hours of sleep, and is tolerant of all creatures. But if you are NOT comfortable with dogs, that is 100% ok just let me know and I can keep her out of the way.
I have chickens and a duck which I can lock up when dogs are visiting, but you're welcome to go in the pen and encouraged to gather eggs during your stay.
Also to note - this is a forest. There are forest sounds. Coyotes, hawks, owls, eagles, ravens and crows, and squirrels. Sometimes they wake you up at night. It's all normal. I have ear plugs if needed.
Guest access
All areas inside and out are yours to use and explore. Exception is the ground floor unit where I stay, and sheds.
There is a small cabin on the property which is rented month to month. It has its own driveway and yard. Please do not enter that area. That said - my tenants tend to be pretty friendly and will probably say hello if you're walking by.
Other things to note
In the summertime, I typically have a large garden. Please don't hesitate to harvest as much as you need - this is why I plant it! Similarly, please collect eggs from the chickens and take home any extras.
