In case of a power outage, we have a generator to keep the well pump going so that the cabins will have running water until the power is restored. We do not have a generator to provide electricity to the cabins but each cabin has a wood stove and we will provide firewood in case of a power outage. We do not refund because of acts of nature including storms, air quality from forest fires, etc. that are out of our control. We will do our best to make your stay as comfortable as possible.

Elk Country Cabin | Woodstove, EV Charger
Cabin
Packwood, Washington, USA

The beautiful northwest is the backdrop for our family gatherings, sharing fun times for years and now we wish to extend the good times to you too. Explore and soak in the beauty of Mount Rainier National Park with friends all day long and return to the Elk Country Cabin for a cozy evening by the campfire. Grill on the deck, cook meals in the small but well stocked cabin kitchen, or head into Packwood for a dinner in town. In the winter be warmed by the wood burning fireplace after a full day on the White Pass slopes. Find something from the game cabinet for all to play or pull a book from the lending library bookshelf and make a bowl of complimentary popcorn to divvy up. Or maybe just sip a cup of cocoa or cider on the upper covered porch and share a few laughs. From Memorial Day to Labor Day, walk to the pools, splash with the kids and immerse in the summer rays. On a sunny day walk to the clubhouse and play a round of golf on the 9-hole course surrounded in natural beauty. On a clear night gaze at the stars, swap stories and sleep on comfy mattresses with new mattress toppers in the log frame beds. Two bedrooms and a loft bunk room provide space for 8 people. Regulate your night sleep temperature with individual baseboard heaters, blankets and country quilts, or in summer flip on the air conditioner in the upstairs bedroom to get everything just right. The upstairs loft bunk room conveniently has a half bath. In the morning enjoy a courtesy cup of coffee or tea on the front deck while you plan your day’s adventure, maybe it’s fishing in the creeks and rivers, taking a bike ride, hiking to Packwood Lake or taking a drive on the White Pass Scenic Byway. We are grateful for and cherish time spent with loved ones, and we hope that you will treasure time shared with your loved ones at our cabin too.

Guest Reviews:

- "Very nice cabin; fully stocked kitchen and many extras. Owner was next door and came over for a visit and was kind enough to help with propane tank that was just too tight for us ladies to turn on. It was unseasonably HOT in Packwood (over 100) during our stay so we appreciated the AC and additional fans. It was comfortable to just "chill out", read, watch movies, etc... Very much appreciated that we were not "expected" to do laundry, change beds, etc...though we left the cabin in tip-top shape. Cabin's location is close to town and not far from park entrances. I would definitely stay in this VRBO again. The beauty of Mount Rainer for me would be to head to Eastside of MR to SR123, and 401. If you can't do long hikes and don't want to fight lines at MRNP, head to Chinook Pass and take the approx. 4 mile Naches Peak Loop - beautiful views of lakes and Mount Rainer."

- "Nice very clean cabin on a quiet street. Driveway is a little steep at the top and some general maintenance stuff needing minor attention but overall a great place to stay a couple nights. Beds were comfortable, there is a fire pit on the side of the house and a community pool down the road you can use if you give the owner a 3 days heads up. Lots of puzzles and games for all ages. Great spot to take the family if exploring Mt Ranier!" - "My family and I stayed here for a week, and we absolutely loved it! Finding the place and getting checked in was easy, and the owner had all of the essentials (dishes, board games, towels, toiletries). The location is amazing, it’s quiet and the little town of Packwood is awesome. It’s also perfectly located to see all kinds of stuff (Rainier, lakes, hiking trails). The cabin itself is clean and cozy, and fit all six of us perfectly comfortably! Highly recommend!"

Historical White Pass Ticket Booth Packwood
Cabin
Packwood

This is the original White Pass Ski Resort ticket booth, then lifty shack, and finally wax room, built in the 1950's, when White Pass first opened. It became somewhat run down and put out of service, but was rescued by a Packwoodian with vision. It was hauled down from White Pass on a flatbed truck, where it was given a new metal roof, insulation, rough-hewn cedar and corrugated metal interior walls. With log bunkbeds, rocking chairs, cozy blankets, it's a snug abode for skiers and hikers!

The space
This tiny, cozy historic White Pass ticket booth cabin is charming, and rustic-yet-comfortable. With warm bedding, comfortable rocking chairs, and a warm heater, you will be snug in Winter! In Summer, giant old fir trees provide all-day shade, and we provide fans. Amenities are limited, as there is no indoor bathroom, but you will have a handwashing/tooth-brushing sink, a large potable water jug with automatic dispenser, and there is a clean, regularly-serviced outhouse just steps away from the entrance. Outdoor hot shower in a lockable shower enclosure. There is a Jackery portable power station that powers the lights and will charge your phones and devices. The heater is an indoor-safe propane Mr. Heater connected to an outdoor propane tank. There is wi-fi, but the signal is weak, and we are working on improving this. There is a strong cell signal, as we are right in town. Our house is on this same property, and we have three vintage trailers that we also rent out. This cabin is set off by itself amongst towering old fir trees. Beautiful view of Mt. Rainier out the back windows, and we are also right by the airport, and you can enjoy the small planes that come and go.

Guest access
Feel free to use the backyard and fire pit.

The space
Welcome to Nanook's Retreat!
Enjoy your stay while you are here visiting Packwood/White Pass/Mt. Rainier!

We want “You” and each of our guests to be confident in knowing that all of us here at Nanook's Retreat are  attempting to do our part in helping our guests and cabin staff to stay as safe and as healthy as we possibly can!  The cabin staff has diligently been cleaning and disinfecting the cabin and cabin grounds.  If anyone on staff is either running a temperature or feeling sick, we do not come to the cabin, we stay home to avoid potentially getting each other sick as well as our guests!
As Lewis County has now moved into phase 2, the cabin staff has been cleaning, disinfecting the cabin in preparations for reopening our accommodations for all of our guests.  For continued  success, Nanook's Retreatwill require the need for proactive cooperation of owners, hospitality staff and guests all working together in a joint effort to potentially prevent or slow the spread of Coronavirus Disease 2019/SARS-Cov-2 (COVID-19) • We have developed the “Nanook's Retreat Slow The Spread” plan based off of available guidelines and data from the Center Of Disease Control (CDC), the State of Washington, Lewis County and their respective health Departments, S.T.V.R (short term vacation rental owner forums), Airbnb, VRBO, Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and Opening Up America Again; guidelines, protocols and advisements • We are able to implement and follow through with this plan for Nanook's Retreat (with all of our guest’s continued cooperation) • We all can successfully maintain the “Nanook's Retreat” plan together as our staff continuously searches for revisions’ to the plan through their daily experiences, your input and suggestions, CDC guideline/protocol suggestions or other updated information/data that is released concerning proper or effective cleaning/disinfecting.  As new advisements/techniques become available or suggested for the attempts to reduce the risk of exposure or spreading of the COVID-19 virus (as well as other viruses), we will be updating our guidelines and protocols for the cabin cleaning and disinfecting.
Cleaning and disinfecting have been two of the most important parts of reopening the cabin safely for everyone. We encourage each of our guests to help slow the spread of the virus by supporting the practice and actively participating in social distancing and prevention hygiene; such as frequently washing your hands and to consider wearing face coverings if and whenever possible when you are out and about in the community. We ask each of our guests to take an active role in making sure our Packwood community remains as safe as possible.  The Packwood community is not only a very popular and growing tourist community; but it also is the permanent home to a very large retired/elderly part-time/full-time resident population. We thank you very much for your compassion and understanding for the resident’s and local community’s health and safety.
The virus that causes COVID-19 can be killed if you use the right products. EPA has compiled a list of disinfectant products that can be used against COVID-19, including ready-to-use sprays, concentrates, and wipes. Each product we use in our “Nanook's Retreat Slow The Spread” and around the cabin for disinfecting has been shown to be effective against viruses that are harder to kill than viruses like the one that causes COVID-19.  Our goal for the implementation of our plan is to create the safest atmosphere we can within and outside of the cabin.  Our cleaning and 2 step disinfection process begins with general cleaning using products with disinfectant properties and is followed up with a final disinfectant fogging process (using a plant based EPA list “N” disinfectant) after the majority of our cleaning staff has exited the cabin and prior to your arrival.
Nanook's Retreat is currently using EPA approved disinfecting EPA list “N” chemical cleaning products and then finalizing with a “plant based only” disinfectant fogging in our current cleaning/disinfecting protocol.  If you have any questions concerning the products being used, please refer to our “Cleaning and Disinfecting Products Used” page in the welcome book.
“Nanook's Retreat” staff and owners do not enter the cabin if they are sick, running a fever or have been in contact with someone who has been sick or is running a fever.  Owners and staff will practice self-isolation in their own home if they are sick, running a temperature or have been exposed to ANYONE that has been sick or running a temperature.  We here at Nanook's Retreat value the importance of your health as we value ours.  We kindly ask each of our guests to notify us immediately if you begin to either run a fever or become sick during your stay so that she can make any necessary decisions and provisions for our staff or incoming guests and their safety.  We will make arrangements at her earliest availability to be of assistance to you and/or your family if someone becomes ill; for you to have the ability to avoid having any further exposure in public if you desire.  We do have a few staff members and family members of staff that do have compromised immune systems and fall under the category of “Vulnerable individuals” and would greatly appreciate your cooperation in communicating with us any symptoms or illness exposure you may experience during your stay with us or after you departure so that we can be prepared for future incoming guests and staff member’s family members.
Thank you for your business and we look forward to safely hosting you at Nanook's Retreat very soon!

o After using the restroom
o After cleaning one room and moving to another
o After doing one cleaning task and moving to another

• Hand Sanitizer: If soap and water are not readily available and hands are not visibly dirty, we do use hand sanitizer that contains at least 60% alcohol.
However, if hands are visibly dirty, we always wash hands with soap and water.

• We avoid touching our eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands.

- Our Cabin Cleaning Protocol (NON porous surfaces) -
• We wear clean/disinfected reusable or disposable gloves for routine cleaning and disinfection every time.
• We clean surfaces using EPA approved and “N’ listed products, then use a “plant based only” disinfectant through a fogger for the entire cabin.
• We clean and disinfect with EPA approved and “N” listed products which reduces the number of germs, dirt and impurities on the surface. Disinfecting kills germs on surfaces.
• We routinely clean and then disinfect with a fogger high frequently touched surfaces within and outside of the cabin. High touch surfaces include:
o Tables, doorknobs, light switches, counter tops, handles, remotes, spice containers, most cupboard and refrigerator condiments, videos, VCR’s, DVD players, toilets, faucets, sinks, communal shampoos, conditioners, body washes, BBQ and lawn/deck furniture.

germs on surfaces.
• We use an EPA plant based “N” listed disinfectant in our fogging regimen.
• We follow instructions/directions on product labels to ensure safe and effective use of the products. When using our plant based disinfectant products/fogging we follow all safety requirements.
Many of the products we use recommend:
o Keeping surfaces wet for a period of time for proper disinfecting.
o We take precautions such as wearing gloves and making sure there is proper ventilation while using fogging disinfectant products by following safety requirements/advisement.

• We ensure adequate ventilation when needed.
• Use no more than the amount recommended on the label.
• Avoid mixing chemical products

Cute & Cozy Packwood A-Frame w/ Private Hot Tub!
Cabin
Lewis County

Away from it all and close to everything you need, this charming Packwood A-frame cabin boasts many comforts of home right in the middle of gorgeous lush PNW forest land. Views and fresh air abound! Walking trails, playground and play fields are just steps from the cabin's front door, plus your own fire pit and private brand-new hot tub!

We are located 5 mins from town, 5 miles from the entrance to Mt Rainier National Park, and just 15 minutes from skiing at White Pass!

The space
**Please Note: there is currently a total burn ban in effect for our area. No campfires are permitted until it has been lifted. Thank you for understanding!**

Cabin is ~650 sq ft: it has a queen bedroom and a 3/4 bath with a rain shower on the ground level, a loft area with two twin beds upstairs, and a queen sleeper sofa in the living space (the sleeper is probably best suited for kids, but definitely will accommodate two adults in a pinch). Our cabin comes equipped with a stocked kitchen including a small pantry of essentials and all the basic kitchen cookware, tools and gadgets (incl. a blender, electric skillet, George Foreman, microwave, toaster and coffee maker). The cabin is a great place for working from "home", offering our guests speedy wifi and a dining table large enough to be a comfortable workspace. Our guests will also enjoy Netflix access, a DVD player, and a whole stack of movies and games to play!

Moving outdoors, you are sure to enjoy our gas grill, large deck and picnic table for alfresco dining and game nights, and our cozy fire pit. Finally, unwind after a long day of skiing or hiking with a soak in our sparkling clean hot tub that is sheltered and private so it can be enjoyed year round!

Guest access
You'll have access to the entire cabin, hot tub, our yard and driveway (with room for 2 vehicles, more if parked in tandem), and fire pit. There is a utility shed filled with dry firewood that you're welcome to use for the fire pit. There is a second utility shed that remains locked with no guest access.

Please note: although there IS a seasonal community pool right across the street, it is restricted to residents only and vacation rental guests are unfortunately not permitted. Our HOA takes this very seriously, so please do not attempt to access the pool; we hope you'll make the most of our awesome hot tub instead :)

Other things to note
The cabin is accessed via a smart key box on the front door. Guests will receive an email the morning of check-in with their own individual access code. This code will be valid from 4pm on their check in day until 11am on the day they check out. We make every effort to accommodate early check-in/late check out when possible but we are often booked back-to-back and kindly ask that our guests plan to arrive and depart on time.

We've worked hard to renovate and redecorate our space to be comfortable and cozy without sacrificing modern comforts like AC and Netflix! That said, deep down Little Red is still very much a rustic little cabin in the woods... but hey. that's part of her charm :)

We are a kid friendly property but we caution parents of young children that the cabin does have steep, narrow stairs leading to the loft. We provide a bumbo-style high chair and a potty seat for families with little ones, and we hope to add a pack & play crib to our supplies soon, too! Stay tuned.

Dog friendly PNW cabin close to Rainier + Hiking
Cabin
Lewis County

Dottie's Basecamp was designed with our rescue dog and adventurous lifestyle in mind. We know it'll be the perfect spot for you (and your pup) to relax and unwind between explorations.

We are a short walk to Cowlitz River access, and a short drive to White Pass, Mount Rainier National Park, and just moments from town!

A portion of every stay is donated to a PNW-based no-kill animal rescue organization.

The space
This charming cabin boasts a range of features, including a large front deck, fire pit, three cozy bedrooms, a fun and fully-equipped kitchen, two full bathrooms (one with a large soaking tub), wood stove, Blackstone gas grill, high-speed WiFi, and smart TVs. With easy access to local trails, Mount Rainier National Park, White Pass for skiing, snowboarding, and snowshoeing- you’ll have everything you need to enjoy the great outdoors.

Our cabin is a short drive to the center of Packwood, approximately a 20 minute drive from multiple entrances to Mt. Rainier National Park, and only 30 minutes from White Pass Ski Area. Whether you're looking for hiking, biking, snow sports, or just exploring the Gifford Pinchot with your pup(s), this cabin is in the perfect location.

Lovingly (and completely) renovated in 2022, our basecamp offers plenty of room to unwind. Climate friendly cleaning products are used throughout the home for the safety of you and your animals.

We provide comfortable furnishings, Pacific Northwest-sourced artwork, cozy textiles, and unique decorative elements (check out our collection of fun trinkets around the cabin!) Enjoy our cozy wood-burning stove and central heating on snowy winter mornings, and plenty of outdoor amenities including a fire pit for relaxing evenings under the stars. On a clear night, we have an incredible view of the sky and often the Milky Way!

Dottie's comfortably sleeps up to six. Each bedroom features Early Bird mattresses, high-thread-count 100% cotton sheets, and mixtures of cotton quilts, wool throws, and plush blankets. Because we value comfort, we've also provided throws around the cabin and extra pillows, because what's better than a cozy rainy morning?

The well-equipped kitchen includes everything you need for a warm cup of morning coffee or tea: electric gooseneck kettle, whole bean coffee, an assortment of teas, sugars, honey/agave, and our very own Dottie's Basecamp coffee mugs. All of the amenities you could ask for in your getaway are included: oven, microwave, toaster oven, air fryer, dishwasher, a small cookbook collection, essential cooking spices, and many kitchen necessities to prepare and enjoy a nice meal.

Entertainment options abound, with a large Roku smart TV offering access to Netflix, Hulu, and more (guests will need to use their own accounts to sign in). Board games, cribbage, cards, puzzles, and a curated library featuring Rainier and dog-friendly hiking guides, a few outdoor classics, and a small collection of fun murder mysteries featuring adventurous cats, and other treasures are also provided! Also, please enjoy our recent addition -- an Arcade Machine featuring dozens of classic titles!

We provide chargers, luggage racks, and closet space. We have a Blu-Ray/DVD player and a selection of DVDs. We ask that you lay out the blankets provided if your pup will be on the furniture, and request that you wipe off muddy dog paws with the provided towels at the front door. Please pick up after your pups in the yard.

We welcome your housetrained, spayed/neutered, and well-behaved pets. We ask that puppies or dogs that are not housetrained not visit our space.

Guest access
The entire property (save for a few closets of cleaning supplies and owner essentials) are available to access. The cabin is located on an open 1/2 acre lot with plenty of room for you (and your dog) to enjoy.

We ask that you please not leave your pet inside or outside unattended.

Other things to note
We welcome your housetrained, spayed/neutered, and well-behaved pets. We ask that puppies or dogs that are not housetrained refrain from visiting our space. Damage caused by pets will result in damage fees. Any pets not disclosed at time of booking will result in a charge.

Please bring your own firewood to use in the wood-burning stove or in the outdoor fire pit. There are many places in town where you can purchase all of the firewood you could ever need.

Guests MUST ensure fire is fully extinguished before leaving it unattended. This is a non-negotiable. There is a 5 gallon bucket by the water source to assist with this. Any non-extinguished fires will result in a fine.

Please be mindful of the season. In the summer, burn bans may be in effect. To check on the status of potential burn bans, please visit the Lewis County website, SW Clean Air website, and/or DNR Burn Restrictions websites.

In the winter, the roads may be snow-filled and our driveway may not yet be shoveled, so we recommend planning for snow navigation if traveling to Packwood November - March. The weather can also impact any backcountry plans you may have, so please double check weather patterns before heading out.

While the wi-fi is blazing fast, cell service can be spotty with certain carriers, so we recommend bringing a hard copy or taking screenshots of directions just in case. We use Verizon and have pretty good service to the cabin.

In extreme weather conditions, you may experience short power outages: one of the cons of living in a heavily wooded area. If this does occur, we have an emergency kit provided that includes candles, flashlights, etc.

Forget something? We have a spare hiking pack, dog leashes, and dog waste bags to use while you stay at Dottie's.

We welcome well-behaved and housebroken dogs. We ask that you are mindful of dog hair left behind and we provide a stick vacuum and lint rollers to help. This helps us keep our cleaning fee low and provides a great experience for all future guests.

We do charge a reasonable pet fee. Please let us know at the time of booking that you intend to bring your pet with you so the fee can be included. **Please note that any undisclosed pets will result in a $200 fee.

Security cameras (exterior only) are in place to ensure guest safety and overall security. These are not actively monitored during your stay unless an issue arises, but may be referenced to confirm guest count. There are no interior cameras.

Please review the printed or digital guidebook and reach out to us with any questions!
