- "So quiet we were afraid to fart." - "The Heron is a very well maintained vintage building with the creature comforts and customer service to entice me to want to return for a longer visit. There’s ample parking and we were able to plug in our electric car. The lobby area features an appealing lounge with massive fireplace and seating as well as the breakfast dining area. Breakfast was of a good standard with fruit and eggs made to order . The rooms have a mixture of vintage charm and expansive windows along with a nice bathroom with tub and shower . The bedding was sumptuous and the room very clean and thoughtfully appointed . This review would be I complete if I didn’t mention the staff who were very warm and friendly and helpful , just what a traveller needs. The Heron will undoubtedly be the place I want to stay, the next time I visit the charming town of La Connor with its boutiques and galleries. "

THE HOUSE was designed to have the feel of a mid-century modern vacation home with light and airy rooms, stainless steel fixtures and off white interior colors. It's located at the "top of the hill" in La Conner in a historic residential neighborhood that is quiet, has limited street access and no through traffic. It sits back 120 feet from the nearest roadway on the edge of a 50 foot bluff. A large 10' by 50' deck looking East off the bluff takes advantage of panoramic views of valley farms, the Cascade Mountains and in the distance Kraft and Bald Islands in Skagit Bay and Mount Rainier. The house is 1650 square feet all on one floor, has solid bamboo floors throughout and porcelain tile and white quartz countertops in the kitchen and bathrooms. The house is oriented toward the deck and views to the East - through large glass windows and sliding glass doors - the living area and two of the bedrooms each have sliding glass doors that open directly onto the deck. Inside, the house is centered around an open living area that combines living, dining and kitchen areas and features a curved 8-foot "Island Bar" for hosting your family and guests. Enjoy the morning sunrise on the expansive East Deck and then enjoy the afternoon from the two Patios and fire pit that face West. Additional details and descriptions of the rooms are provided below the photos.
FOUR BEDROOMS -
The three main bedrooms feature king size beds with natural fiber sheets and boutique hotel mattresses. Two have sliding glass doors that open onto the East Deck. The third is slightly larger and has a bay window that looks West toward the neighborhood, the large lawn in front of the house and a broad 40 foot Pin Oak tree. A Fourth bedroom is set up as a "Family Room" with large sofa, 46" Sony flat screen HD TV, and snack bar with sink, fridge, dishwasher, microwave and quartz countertop. The sofa is a Brynlee Comfort Sleeper from American Leather and has a very comfortable king size memory foam mattress that folds out into three solid 6" thick mattress panels. The Comfort Sleeper mattress is "extra firm" and comes with an optional 2" topper for guests that prefer a softer feel. Double sliding wood doors in the hallway can be used to close off the South Bedroom, Family Room and South Bath into a "One Bedroom Suite" for privacy. The walls that separate the One Bedroom Suite from the rest of the house all have special sound insulation to provide an extra measure of peace and quiet.
TWO BATHROOMS
Two large bathrooms have double basin quartz countertops with large mirrors, large floor to ceiling glass enclosed showers (3 feet by 5 feet), heated towel bars and porcelain tile throughout.
KITCHEN
The Kitchen has an L-shaped white quartz countertop with stainless steel appliances, plenty of cabinet space and everything you will need to serve meals, bake cookies and casseroles or share a glass of wine. There's a dishwasher, stainless steel sink with garbage disposal, full size stove with oven, full size fridge and microwave. An eight foot curved Island Bar has a matching white quartz countertop and can seat up to four people. The Kitchen, Living and Dining Areas were designed for entertaining.
DINING AREA
The Dining Area is located in front of two large picture windows and has a raised pedestal glass top table to help capture the home's territorial view of mountains, valley and Skagit Bay. The table seats 6 comfortably and can accommodate up to 8.
LIVING AREA
Two couches and two upholstered chairs form a lounging area with a 50" Samsung 4K UHD Curved Screen TV, Blue Ray Player, Yamaha Sound Bar and Electric Fireplace. The TV can be viewed from the Kitchen, the Dining Room Table and the chairs in front of the Island Bar - perfect for entertaining or for just watching a movie or the big game with family.
EAST DECK
It's not inside but it has the feel of another room with soft cushioned outdoor "couch seating" for 6, a glass top patio table for outdoor dining and two reclining teak chairs with ottomans for catching the sun or just relaxing. The perfect spot for waking up with coffee, catching the morning sun and visiting with friends and family.
WEST PATIOS
There are two large raised patios on the West side of the house. One has an outdoor dining table and chairs. The other has a seating area around a fire pit for that after dinner glass of wine or dessert and watching the sun go down. A wheel chair accessible ramp leads up from the parking area to the patio areas and front door.
SOUTH GARDEN
The West Patios and separate entrance to the Family Room both lead to a garden on the south side of the house with roses, rhododendrons, fruit trees - pear, apple and fig - fresh salad greens and strawberries in season. Guests are welcome to augment their meals with fresh produce from the garden - but may also have to fend off the occasional deer that has discovered this outside "salad bar."
WHEEL CHAIR ACCESS
THE HOUSE IS NOT ADA APPROVED OR EQUIPPED. However, there is a wheel chair accessible ramp from the parking area to the West Patio and front door. The door to the West Bedroom is oversized to accommodate most wheel chairs and the North Bath has an oversized sliding door to accommodate wheel chair access. There is no wheel chair access to the shower - or handicap accessories (like handrails and shower chair) in either bathroom.
Guest Access
THE RENTAL PROPERTY
The Rental Property includes the Guest House (approximately 1650 sq ft), a large deck on the East side of the house, two raised cement patios on the West side of the house, gardens on the north and south sides of the house and a gravel parking area with off street parking.
THE PROPERTY NEXT DOOR
The Property Next Door is located West of the Rental Property between the gravel parking area in front of the Guest House and Fourth Street. It has a large lawn, two gardens and a Bocce Court. These areas are owned by the same Property Owner that owns the Guest House but are Not Part Of The Rental Property. Renter and Renter’s Guests are welcome to use these areas in common with the Property Owner, his guests, neighbors and their guests.
BOCCE COURT: The Bocce Court is 48 feet long, 9 feet wide and is surrounded by a short brick wall. It has a 2 inch layer of crushed oyster shell for a playing service - it's an easy game to play and great entertainment for people of all ages. A copy of the “Joy of Bocce” – with game rules and tips on how to play – is on the book shelf in the Guest House.
LAWN & GARDEN: Garden chairs on the lawn under a 60 year old Pin Oak Tree provide an extra seating area to escape to if it gets too hot or if you just want a little extra privacy. And there’s a croquet set for anyone looking for something else to do. Landscaping features warmer "island vegetation" - madrona like (strawberry) trees, manzanita, rhododendrons and beach grasses. The two gardens, Pin Oak Tree and Bocce Court surround the lawn giving it both a cozy intimate feel and an opportunity to visit with neighbors passing by.
Interaction with Guests
We are long-time residents of La Conner and looking forward to sharing our community with you. We live in the home next door and are available to give you as much - or as little - help and advice as you need to get to know our little town and feel like one of the locals.

Other Things to Note
THE MAGIC SKAGIT
Before early settlers began diking the farmlands of the Skagit Valley, La Conner, Fidalgo Island across the Channel and the rocky hills that poke up out of the farmlands were all islands at the southeast end of the chain of islands we know as the San Juan Islands. You can now get here by car but the vegetation and feel of the place is still "island like." La Conner is located at the mouth of the Skagit River watershed and is literally in the center of this ecosystem we call the "Magic Skagit." In addition to being in the center of La Conner, our Guest House makes a great "base camp" for exploring the Skagit Valley and the "region less travelled" north of Seattle - the shops and restaurants of La Conner, wildlife refuges on Fir Island and the Skagit River Delta and lots of quaint little farm towns nearby. It's also an easy day trip - an hour or hour and a half - to Seattle, Vancouver BC (a little farther), Port Townsend, the San Juan Islands and North Cascades National Park.
LA CONNER
WATERFRONT BOARDWALK: Walk the full length of town on the new waterfront boardwalk, enjoy the sights on Swinomish Channel and check out the decks in front of all the shops. Or just stare at the water and watch what's going on across the Channel on the Swinomish Indian Reservation - the giant "Cedar Hats" Welcoming Pavillion, the Swinomish Fish Company's Cannery and the Fishermen's Docks where the Swinomish Fishing Fleet is moored.
SHOPPING: At over 100 shops and stores with everything from art to antiques, clothing, wine and gifts along First and Morris Streets. Walk to the grocery store, post office, library, drug store and the bank.
MUSEUMS: Explore the history of Skagit County in the County Historic Museum (one block away), the Quilt Museum in the historic Gaches Mansion (2 blocks away) or the Museum of Northwest Art (MONA) for the largest collection of northwest art north of the Seattle Art Museum.
DINING: At over 10 restaurants from fine dining to casual pub fare and at several bakeries and coffee shops for fresh baked goods and espresso. Start at the legendary Calico Cupboard for breakfast at one end of town and end up at Seeds, Calico's sister cafe at the other end of town with more choices in between than an average person's temptation can handle. Check out Washington Sips (wine bar) and Anelia's (Polish Restaurant) to see if there is any live music playing. Or walk down to Hellam's Wine Shop for their daily (all day) wine tasting and sit out on the old Lime Dock Wharf enjoying snacks and a glass of wine.
- "Do not hesitate to rent this home! It is spotless , very spacious, has exceptionally comfortable furniture and bed linens and towels. It has very well stocked kitchen for cooking creations. The location is perfect with easy walk to town for shopping, coffee or choice of restaurants! Allan the host is nearby and responsive if there are any questions. We went 4/19 to 4/26/23 for tulip festival, all 5 gardens are within 10 miles from the house. The house is located with easy access to major roads. We also visited Deception Pass, Port Townsend: woodbey island,Coupeville , Leavenworth and a casino. Beautiful area of the country to see. Highly recommend this rental home!"

- "This is our first time at this VRBO. I think we have found our new home away from home! It was very clean and quiet. The location is perfect for shopping. With COA moving in next door, we were just steps away from our favorite Mexican restaurant!" - "Very easy to find and park. It's not on the waterfront, but you're not far from all the restaurants and shops in La Conner. It's a very quiet neighborhood. There are plenty of coffee shops and a small market close by. Everything is walking distance. You are right next to a delicious Mexican restaurant, COA, too. Amenities are modern, updated and very clean. We had an issue with trash bags, but it was resolved quickly. I would stay again when I visit family in Mt. Vernon."

A bit of background on the city of La Conner pulled from Experience WA. “ La Conner is a small town of 900 residents built on the banks of the Swinomish Channel, which leads to the Salish Sea and gives La Conner much of its color and atmosphere. Walk down the new boardwalk along the channel to take in the distinct seaside ambiance that comes with watching fishing boats and pleasure crafts navigate their way toward the world-famous San Juan Islands. Crowning the channel is Rainbow Bridge, the Golden Gate of La Conner. With its historic buildings and a colorful downtown assortment of channel-front restaurants, inns, galleries, museums and boutiques, La Conner is a prime destination for those who appreciate a stroll. Soak up the saltwater scents and sounds as seabirds sweep overhead, or enjoy a drink out by the channel. “
- "We were there visiting under difficult circumstances (the passing of a friend) and this place was just what we needed. The serenity felt here was priceless. Everything was smooth sailing from start to finish. We immediately felt like we were home ❤️" - "Property was super clean and comfortable. Plenty of pillows and nice beds. Sleep well and enjoyed the sunsets every night." - "Everything about this place was remarkable. The location and view are memorable, and the house itself is well equipped, spacious and creates privacy. The deck, the beach and the fire pit made it difficult to spend any time inside. Lots of activities nearby. We’ll be back!"

- "We booked because the mixed reviews made this place sound extra adventurous. We were all pleasantly surprised and had great fun reading the guest book. It was much bigger than expected with more bedrooms than we thought. Room for everyone!" - "We were able to check in a little early, which was nice. The house is quirky, sloping floors and a closet with bunkbeds, but we enjoyed that part. Nothing like a cookie cutter condo. Beds were extremely comfortable. Beautiful surroundings. The only negative was the stairs down to the water were a little rickety, and the path to get all the way down is cluttered with large logs. A little precarious, especially for older folks, and littles, too. Kitchen is well appointed with everything you could need. We couldn’t get the tv upstairs to work. That was a bummer. Also, there’s an ant problem. We left a package of jerky out and it was swarmed by the next morning. We highly recommend staying here and will try to stay again."

- "Great view and a very comfortable stay! We were here during the Tulip Festival and enjoyed our time!" - "We will be happy to stay there again on our next trip. GREAT views, easy access and close to downtown La Conner." - "Perfect location and great home." - "Couldn't beat having the beach accessible across the street. Great place to relax for a few days." - "We typically stay in BC along the coast somewhere each year. This year we tried something a little different and stayed on the Washington Coast and we very thoroughly enjoyed our time here. The first evening was the lightening storm so we pulled the sofas to the windows and watched all together (6 of us) for hours. The sofas stayed there for a few days because we all enjoyed the view after a day of either sightseeing or paddling or games on the lawn. We met neighbours who generously shared their crab catch, kayaked and paddle boarded ( our own equipment) and had a family Olympics including the fuse ball and ping pong ball tables. The house is a bit of a time capsule, obviously loved by someone for a very long time and in excellent original shape. Everything about the home was comfortable, especially the amount of room and views from every room. Jackie was more than accommodating answering questions any day and time. La Connor is an adorable town with lots of quality shops to visit right on the water. We will absolutely be back and will remember to bring our crab traps"

An exciting location on the Swinomish Channel with boats going by, eagles overhead and when the tide is out, walk the beach. A complete remodel in 2024 with all new EVERYTHING. There is a community boat launch and community beach. Plus this house comes with a small dock in the boat basin. Right near Rozengarden and Tulip Town to view the Spring blooms. Close to the historic town with delicious restaurants, fun shops, art galleries, farm stands and flower fields. Only 20 minutes to Anacortes for more activities and the waterfront town there.
- "My family and I enjoyed our stay at the Channel house. The view of the channel and the sunsets were lovely. It was quiet and serene. A great location if you are interested in heading to the town of La Conner, which is lovely as well. The house does not have AC, as most homes in WA do not. It did get a bit warm during the day. However cools down in the evening. We would definitely stay again." - "Very comfortable, well-appointed home. Extremely quiet location with exceptional views on the channel. Would definitely consider staying at this property again. Jill was very responsive during booking and check-in process. Thank you for a wonderful experience!"

Our charming guest house is located on a beautiful and secluded one acre lot centrally located in historic La Conner, WA. The house is within easy walking distance of La Conner's historic downtown and waterfront with a variety of dining choices, unique shops, and waterfront boardwalk. We are directly across the street from the south basin of the La Conner Marina making us an ideal location for boaters. The fully
furnished house has a cozy living room with gas fireplace. There are two bedrooms: one with king and one with twin beds. There is also a sleeper sofa in the living room. It is just a step outside from the living room onto our large deck to enjoy warm sunny summer days. The house includes a complete kitchen with range, microwave, refrigerator, and dishwasher. There are also a washer and dryer. Cable TV and wifi are included. Due to local zoning restrictions, we are only able to accommodate rentals of 30 days or more. Unfortunately, due to animal dander allergies, we cannot accept pets.
- "We stayed here for 3 months and were pleasantly surprised. The Thompson's Guest house is larger than the photos would make you think. It's also bright with lots of windows. The furniture & beds are very comfortable. The sofa bed is the best! No springs and a very firm foam mattress. Our guests were shocked at how comfortable it was. The kitchen and bathroom are also roomy - very comfortable for a couple. It would even be fine short-term with kids. The Thompson's are very gracious hosts as well. The home is a few short blocks to town where there are so many great restaurants and shops. It's near the marina so lots to watch and see. Overall we have no complaints and would stay here again. Highly recommend!"

Our family home since 1956, when it was designed and built by local life long residents Louie and Roberta. Mid-century style floor plan with generously sized spaces offer an excellent blend of space and comfort. The family's connection to the Northwest art movement of Fishtown and Skagit valley artist can be observed on the walls of the home. Enjoy the views and serenity or take the short stroll to downtown. Father and son team have taken great care to update the home with all modern amenities.
The space
Guests have the entire upstairs/ main house. there is an apartment downstairs in the basement that my quiet father and his little dog Bob live in. there is no interior access between the units. the spaces are effectively separate. so it's very private. the listing parameters offer "entire place", "shared room", or "private room". this is an entire house, but with a basement apartment. so "entire house" is the most accurate of the only 3 options. sorry for the confusion!
The property is on a hillside, so there isn't much of a yard to speak of. mostly landscaped terraces. if you're looking for a big outdoor space for your dog to roam around, this is probably not the space. otherwise the house is spacious and comfortable. We've had several guests with dogs who've had no issues with the lack of "yard".There is a nice deck off the kitchen/dining room as well. enjoy the views!

A rustic cabin with incredible views and just steps to the beach. Sleeps 2 - or 4 if you have children. It has everything you need for a sweet getaway: a queen bed in the loft, double futon in the living space, propane cook stove, and an outdoor space with a fire pit, two hammocks and a BBQ. There is a burn ban on outdoor fires from July 1 until who knows when. But you can still BBQ.
The space
Staying at The Driftwood is like going back in time and doing gourmet camping. The cabin is in a quiet space in the woods - there are neighbors, but they aren't usually home. Renovated with care by the owners, the name comes from an abundance of driftwood on the beach. The guestbook tells wonderful stories from this cabin: proposals, anniversaries, phenomenal sunsets, personal retreats and family vacations. The words that come up most are "peaceful" and "cozy."
You can access the pebble-strewn beach down the rough-hewn stairs from the backyard. The bay brings in eagles, osprey, king fishers, woodpeckers, and seals. The tide comes in and out twice a day.
The great seaside town of La Conner (5-minutes away) offers first class restaurants offering local produce and seafood. Join La Conner locals for Art's Alive, the Tulip Festival, the Poetry festival, boat parade and car shows. Discover the Museum of NW Art, the Quilt Museum and the Historical Museum. And don't miss the annual Native American canoe races in June.
Most of the time it is quiet at the Driftwood but there is a potential for noise from the Whidbey Island Naval Air Station across the bay. They do not tend to run on the weekends.
Guest access
Guests will have access to the the whole cabin with full amenities. Host lives across the street.

Comfortable 4 bedroom 2 bath home on a spacious double lot. This is situated on a point with a sweeping water front view where you can see both the sun rise and the sunset. The main floor has a newly remodeled open floor plan. The kitchen has stainless appliances, a gas stove, an island and lots of kitchen gadgets. The downstairs entry and bathroom floors as well as the shower are all tiled in slate. The downstairs bathroom has a glass door handicap accessible walk in shower.
This home is a beloved waterfront getaway at the end of a private lane with access to a secluded lovely cove beach. The setting is absolutely gorgeous with dynamic dramatic Pacific Northwest waterfront views. It is surrounded by water, islands, mountains, and abundant wildlife. Casual and comfortable with a Pacific Northwest feel, it's decorated with Pendleton blankets and regional art. The well equipped kitchen includes a cuisinart, kitchenaid mixer, cast iron and caphelon pots and pans.
The house sleeps 9in four bedrooms, each with water and island views. The downstairs master bedroom has a queen bed and a twin size daybed/ sofa. The downstairs is handicapped accessible, although currently the bed maybe considered high. We do have plabs to change that soon. Upstairs the bedrooms are furnished with one queen bed, one double bed and one twin trundle bed. The two larger upstairs bedrooms have beautiful waterfront views that can be easily enjoyed from the comfort of bed. The full upstairs bathroom has a shower. The downstairs bath with shower and a washer and dryer.
The open plan living space includes a large extendable dining table that can seat 10 for meals with family and friends and comfortable chairs and sofas for daytime and evening lounging. Bookcases are filled with a wide range of reading choices, from field guides and cookbooks to classics of fiction and non-fiction as well as boxes of games and puzzles for family fun.
A partly covered south facing deck provides a grand view of Martha's Bay, the North Fork of the Skagit River, the Swinomish Channel and its myriad boat traffic, and the many islands of Skagit Bay. The deck offers excellent bird watching as the tides shift, with great blue herons moving onto their feeding grounds as the water recedes, and then replaced by ducks, geese, and gulls when it returns. Eagles often fish out over the bay, and before and after fishing perch in fir trees next to the house. Seals follow schools of fish as they return on incoming tides, as do families of river otters. Dot Island, just offshore, is the home and nesting site for oyster catchers, who can often be heard from the house. The deck has tables and chairs and a gas grill for outdoor cooking and dining. A large steel artisan made firepit in the west side yard can be used for evening fires and roasts.
Excellent bay and estuary kayaking are a short carry and a few steps down to the adjoining cove. There is a boat launch under the Rainbow bridge which is about 5 minutes away. Certain areas get very shallow at low tide so knowing the waters is a good idea. There is plenty of parking for a vehicle with a trailored boat. There is water in the cove from mid-tide and above, so tide tables must be consulted when planning trips! The cove is also an excellent place for children to explore and play under adult supervision.
The point adjacent to the cove provides a unique and commanding 270 degree view, east up the Swinomish Channel to Hole in the Wall and the entrance to La Conner, beyond to the channels of the North Fork of the Skagit, south past Goat Island to Camano Island, west to Whidby Island, and north past the Dead Man Islands and Hope Island towards the hidden passage of Deception Pass. Tides and water levels change dramatically twice a day affording ever changing views.
The home is equipped with internet/wifi, cable TV, a DVD player and a CD player/radio.
