Our Hawaiian Style Vacation Rental apartment is "Legally operated", and sits on Kailua Beach, one of Hawaii's most beautiful of white sand beaches, and rated among one of the USA's best.
The apartment is located in the front portion of a beachfront home with a beautiful view of Kailua bay. It has it's own private entrance and has convenient FREE parking on driveway just down sidewalk from the rental unit. The bedroom has one queen-size bed and over head ceiling fan for extra ventilation and comfort. There is a connecting private bathroom and shower supplied with bath towels sets an beach towels.The unit also has a dining table, TV with cable, and unit is computer “WIFI” wireless ready.
There is AC is available for cool air as preferred. The kitchenette is fully equipped with a microwave, large sink, Kreuig coffeemaker with 4 complimentary K- coffee cups to start tenants off, electric hot water kettle, refrigerator with freezer, toaster, dishes, and utensils. Come and enjoy our island home with us. Koi Palms Cottage is located within our gated property alongside our lovely Koi pond, in the quaint town of Kailua. The owners live on the property in the main house.
The cottage is a 600 square foot 1 bedroom unit. The kitchen is equipped with 2 induction hot plates with stainless steel cookware and a convection oven / microwave oven suitable for baking. A full size refrigerator, dishwasher and a large granite island complete the kitchen space. The bedroom has a king sized bed with luxury linens and a flat screen TV. The living room area is comfortable and inviting. With a 40 inch LED Smart TV and a small library of books from titles we've read to books guests have left behind. Feel free to take one for the plane ride home.
Stroll two blocks to the white sands of Kailua Beach with your morning coffee or tea to see a breathtaking sunrise or through Kailua town at night. Relax and enjoy the tumbling waters of our pond and its colorful Koi fish dancing below your windows. The vacation cottage has one parking space and is a private entrance.

The Hawaii Sheffield House Ginger Studio has a 'Secret Garden. The night lighting is enchanting. We are Located at 131 Kuulei Road in Kailua . It has a private entrance and is on the ground floor with windows opening to a tropical bank of Areca palms. The Ginger Studio has a private entrance and a private bath that has a huge walk-in shower . A breakfast bar with toaster oven and coffeemaker and under counter refrigerator is provided in the room. Check the calendar for last minute vacations or specials.
Just outside the door in the garden, is a bubbling fountain in a Chinese steamer pot. There is a comfortable queen size bed. The beach is calling and there are activities galore, a perfect Hawaii vacation. Take a beach chair and a boogie board located by the entry door and walk to Kailua Beach and enjoy some beach time.
There is an Olympic size community swimming pool and tennis courts 13 houses up the street toward Kailua Town. In the other direction is our beach access to Kailua Bay . Hike the Lanikai pillboxes, Visit our wetland, Kawainui marsh. Kailua Beach by Sheffield House is a perfect boogie board spot. Watch the kite surfers or join in. Plan an early morning walk to watch the sunrise.
The Ginger Studio and the Garden Suite 30018 can be combined to make a two bedroom two bath unit and sleep a party of five.
The Ginger Studio has a queen-sized bed with Hawaiian applique quilts and a newly remodeled private bath with a Breccia marble counter top. It has a large shower -big enough for two (no tub). It is equipped with a breakfast bar or kitchenette (No kitchen sink) with a microwave, toaster oven, coffee maker, and under counter refrigerator and a table for two.
While it is air conditioned, ceiling fans are usually all that is needed. Evenings on the beach you will need a light sweater or jacket all year round. The Ginger Studio has an iron, ironing board, hair dryer, cable TV and wifi. There is an indoor rattan table for two as well as an outdoor table for two/three. Towels, beach towels, and paper towels are provided. At this time we are not accepting reservations which include children under the age of three in this room. .
We only accept reservations with small children when this unit is rented together with VRBO 30018. It is possible to sleep a party of 5 with adjoining VRBO 30018
Yes, we are in the tropics so you may see geckos, anoles, chameleons and flying insects. Yes, we do use pesticides.

Hawaii Sheffield House is a non smoking property. The Ginger Studio is a self contained vacation rental with everything there that you might need. There is one free parking space in the driveway of Hawaii Sheffield House just steps from the entrance the Ginger Studio.

Sadly, at this time our street can be busier than normal. It is from time to time being used as a detour for the construction at the roundabout at the entry of Lanikai. Hopefully, by the time you read this the detour will be removed.

- "We just spent an exceptional month at Judy’s beach house and it is a real pleasure to write our impressions. Judy’s beach house is in a wonderful location; indeed at a short walking distance from a beautiful long sandy Kailua beach. Judy has thought of every detail that makes one’s stay comfortable and enjoyable. The decoration is tasteful and blends well with the Hawaiian spirit: the living space is well thought of, the bedrooms and bedding are very comfortable, the kitchen is extremely well equipped and made it possible to prepare family meals at home. Everything was generously provided, from bathroom towels, to paper towels, many condiments, water filter, so many small details that you rarely find in rentals anywhere! Judy provided beach chairs, snorkeling masks, umbrellas. Without these we would not have been able to enjoy the beach as we did. Also Judy kindly made available to us a lot of useful visitor documentation and information on Oahu and Kailua. Most importantly, Judy is an amazing host: her welcoming was heartwarming, after travelling for many many hours it was a blessing to land at her beach house. Judy puts a lot of love and attention in her place, not only is it beautiful, but is clean, and well-kept and maintained. The Beach
A long, graceful bay protected by a coral reef is Kailua’s delight. The nearly 4-mile-long stretch of ivory sand is made for strolling, and the weather and wave conditions can be just about perfect for swimming, kayaking, windsurfing and kitesurfing. South along the shore lies the exclusive enclave of Lanikai, with million-dollar views – and mansions to match.
We would recommend a car, however Oahu is known for its amazing bus system with stops that can take you all over the island. Bus stop is just a few hundred feet away.
We ask that you do not smoke inside and please be courteous of noise after 10 PM.

Location Location Location! Our Lanikai ocean front location exactly in front of the twin Mokulua Islands provides endless hours of outstanding views from the ocean front yard, the living room, dining room, and side deck.
A perfect place to work remotely, as you have an ocean playground at your doorstep when you need a break. We have fiber optic cable to the house which provides extremely high speed internet (900Mbs download, 300Mbs upload). We provide substantial discounts for stays of 30 nights or more.
Our railed stairway to the ocean gives you easy access for swimming, snorkeling, and kayaking. Kayaks can be rented from several local companies, most of which will drop-off and pick-up for free, and the kayaks can be launched down the stairway. The ocean floor in front of the house is sandy and great for swimming and floating, while further out there's great snorkeling.
As you relax in the yard, on the lanai, or in the house, you'll see all kinds of action floating by: outrigger canoes, kayakers, standup paddle boarders, fishermen, kite boards, sail boats, and more. The natural breeze usually keeps things cool and comfortable.
Your bungalow is a simple and comfortable two bedroom, one-bath ocean front duplex. We can accommodate four guests: 2 in the lanai bedroom (King bed), and 2 in the ocean front bedroom (Queen Bed). There is also a queen sized futon in the living room. In addition to the shower in the bathroom, there is an outdoor hot water shower. The King bedroom has a window air conditioner unit.
The side deck includes relaxation areas, easy access to the kitchen and bathroom, and outdoor shower area. The outer deck has a table with chairs, a canopy, outdoor mood lights, and a propane BBQ.
The two sides of the duplex are private and well-separated. The owners maintain a low profile, but are always available if needed. You may not even see them during your visit unless you run into them in the driveway or the ocean front yard. The yard is divided by a privacy panel and the owners have a small outdoor area on their side of panel.

A Great Cottage in a Wonderful Location
We thoroughly enjoyed our entire week+--the house was clean, comfortable, and just earthy enough to feel like home. Although we never met, the owners were totally responsive and attentive, fixing a minor plumbing issue on a weekend, and making sure everything was right for us -- which it was. We are already planning our next trip to Lanikai, and this is our first choice for accommodations.

Absolutely Perfect with a Million Dollar View!
Our family of 4 spent 8 nights in this fantastic vacation rental this spring and enjoyed every minute of it. The location of the property is perfect, right on the water with stunning views of the Mokes where we watched the sunrise every morning. Right over the wall at the back of the house you have private access to the water. We rented kayaks in Kailua and kayaked down to the house and kept the kayaks for a few days. The pill box trail was about a 15 minute from the house - we did that hike four separate times since at different times of the day, the views from up there are amazing. The house had everything we could want, we loved that so many areas of the house were outside so we could enjoy the gorgeous Hawaiian weather. And the hammock, was just pure bliss. Kailua has everything you could possible want from shops to restaurants to Whole Foods and Longs Drugs. Lanikai Beach is one of the most beautiful beaches in Oahu. We have stayed on all the islands and in many locations on Oahu and this is the first time we have said that we would come back to a location, it was just perfect. If you are looking for a peaceful and beautiful house in the best location on Oahu, this is the place for you.

The most well stocked, well thought out home. Could not have asked for anything more unless we could have controlled the weather! Truly an amazing property, no disappointment. It took us a day or two to adjust to the long driveway in our large car, but we soon mastered the navigation. Great location, amazing swimming and watch the sunrise each and every morning. We have found home in Lanikai
What an amazing place. Our family spent a week in this amazing home. If you are looking for simple and pure island living, this is your place. This is what heaven probably looks like. We had breakfast, dinner and lunch by the water. We swam with the turtles, puffer fish and the famous Humuhumunukunukuapua’a. We paddle boarded to the Mokes right from our backyard, did acrylic paints with the locals and practiced full moon yoga at the beach. Just a few of the activities available. The place has something for everyone. The owner was incredibly friendly and attentive to our needs. The neighbors (both locals) were welcoming. We are definitely coming back here! Incredible View, Awesome House, Perfect Location!
I was fortunate to be able to stay at this house with my Mother and 2 of her good friends for 2 weeks. I'm their designated a dirty job but someone's go to do it! A few years back we stayed in Kailua and discovered Lanikai and we have been hooked ever since! Our family owns a cottage on a tiny island in The Bahamas and we know great beaches and Lanikai is among the BEST! So to be able to stay right there with that gorgeous water and the Mokes as our view was absolutely incredible! The house is extremely well appointed and was very clean. It's amazing how many extras there are: beach chairs, boogie boards, noodles, outdoor furniture, plenty of extra towels (including beach towels) and sheets, everything for the kitchen even a salad spinner! We love to cook and a well stocked kitchen is so greatly appreciated. Do note that there is no dishwasher (not a worry at all for us!).

Lanikai Love
This is by far the best house in Lanikai if you want to wake up to a daily gorgeous sunrise directly in front of the Mokes, walk to Lanikai (and Kailua) beaches, have a great 3 mile walk around the neighborhood loop and just generally relax. The house is stocked with everything you need in the kitchen, there are plenty of places to relax both outside and inside, the neighbors are sweet and the owners are very responsive and nice. The back yard is perfect for relaxing or for dining outside. The outside shower is great for rinsing off after spending hours in the ocean; which we did every single day. The neighborhood is generally quiet and we spent hours at night in the back yard or on walks, staring at the clouds and stars. Whole Foods and other stores are just a 10 minute drive away, and Buzz's Steakhouse is the best place to walk or drive to for lunch. Sit at the bar and order the fish sandwich and a Mai best! We will definitely stay there again and look forward to it.

Paradise Out Your Back Door
We loved our week at this house! Wake up to beautiful sunrises over the Mokulua Islands and swim with sea turtles right in front of the house. Lanikai is a wonderful place to stay on Oahu and this house makes it hard to leave. We rented paddle boards and kayaks from a local shop, had them delivered to the house and began and ended each day paddling or swimming to "The Mokes", going to Lanikai beach or over to Kailua beach park and up to Buzz's restaurant. We hiked to Pill Box twice to watch the sunrise. The house has everything you need and we spent most nights barbequing and enjoying the windward breezes and warm evenings. Consider making a stop at the Costco in Hawaii Kai on the drive in from the airport for your provisions for the stay. The kitchen is well equipped with everything you need to cook all your meals if you like. The house is comfortable and clean. We enjoyed relaxing in the hammock and looking at the ocean and the outrigger canoes racing by in the mornings and evenings each day. Lanikai is a great location on the island because it is quiet and peaceful but close enough to Kailua where you can go for restaurants and shopping (we went to the Farmers market on Thursday evening - it was fun). You can also jump on the freeway and go to the North Shore or south to Honolulu easily. We hope to go back again in the near future, Mahalo!

Best Vacation House Ever!!
I have been back on the mainland for a week now and my heart aches when I look at the pictures of our beautiful ocean front house. From the moment you arrive you know you will not want to leave this place. Rent your kayak on the way to the house, pick up some food and beverage and you are set for your stay. Gorgeous white sand beaches, crystal clear water, sea turtles swimming right by your house, snorkeling for hours, kayaking to the islands, PIll box hike right in your neighborhood, Ocean breezes at night. The house had EVERYTHING we needed bath towels, beach towels, washer/dryer, ironing board, wifi, dishes, pots,pans, outdoor shower, grill, boogie boards,hammock, beach chairs, icemaker in list goes on and on. The lanai was our living space. We ate, relaxed and hung out there.

Aloha! We renovated this old-style Hawaiian home so that it will have the charm of old Hawaii with modern conveniences.
This garden oasis (we've planted over 3,000 trees and plants) is in the most awesome location - situated right at the entry of Kailua Beach Park - walk out the back gate and you are 100 steps from Kailua Beach where you will find 2.5-miles of its famous soft white-sand and turquoise water - - often rated in the top 10 most beautiful beaches in the world. Beach walk, swim, kayak, wind-surf, kite board, body surf, snorkel, hike, walk/jog the Lanikai loop - there is an abundance of fun activities here...or, completely relax and chill out - it's very easy in this quiet & secluded bungalow on the 1st level of a 2-story home.

Pacheco's Hale is a beautiful two-bedroom, second-floor unit - nice and breezy with a private entrance. We have been renting our property since the 1980s and this unit since 2014. This clean, quiet unit is completely furnished and updated regularly. The two lanais have views of palm trees, lush green tree tops, Mount Olomana and the Koolau Mountains. The high ceilings and beachy feel make this comfortable unit perfect for your Kailua stay. You can choose to enjoy the nice tradewind breeze in our airy unit, or cool off with A/C.
Pacheco's hale is located within walking distance (10-15 minutes) of the white sands of Kailua and Lanikai beach, great shopping including boutique shops, Starbucks, Whole Foods, Target and fantastic restaurants.

Our cottage is situated on a beautifully landscaped property which will lead you to a lusciously landscaped garden with outdoor dining & BBQ. There is a private fenced-in area in the back with relaxed seating to enjoy your morning coffee and to take in the Hawaiian air.
Newly and thoughtfully renovated with Hawaiian inspirations and has all your modern day comforts. You have free on-site parking and easy access to our outdoor shower. This spacious 1-bedroom cottage unit is a permitted short term rental which means you can stay for a few nights or as many nights as you would like. Our accommodation is thoughtfully and carefully aid out and has all the modern day comfort features such as mini-split air conditioners, fully equipped full-size kitchen with Keurig coffee machine, drip coffee, toaster, induction stove, microwave, and all the essentials to cook and eat your meal. - "My wife and I really enjoyed our stay at Toby's very recently remodeled guest house. Location is great -- about 15 minute walk to Kailua beach, and 10 minutes from restaurants, brew pubs, groceries, and great breakfast and coffee places. Toby has set up the place with all the conveniences needed, whether that is a bike cruiser, or beach chairs, or micro fiber beach towels, or sitting in the patio garden sipping wine in the evening or coffee in the morning. It was very quiet while we there in the evenings, and the bed is super comfortable - we slept really well. We didn't think we'd need the mini-split AC units - there are two - but they came in handy. At your moment of need, Toby has it set up so whatever that need is, it's at the ready. We loved it and will be back!"

An Awesome guest house located in the back of our home waiting to welcome you to beautiful Hawaii! We are just a short walking distance from Kailua Beach and Kailua town. This property is an owner occupied home.
The cottage is equipped with a small refrigerator, dish washer, cook top, microwave, toaster, dishes and cutlery. Coffee and Tea are provided for 1st morning, but you may want to stock up on fresh produce at our local farmer's market (Thursdays and Sundays).
Help yourself to beach chairs, boogie boards, snorkeling masks, a SUP. Upon returning home from the beach rinse off in the hot water outdoor shower, hang your beach clothes and maybe nap to the soothing sounds of out tropical birds cooing. Afterwards you might choose to head into charming Kailua town. We have a variety of yummy restaurants at various prices and a Whole Foods!
If you choose to venture out to explore the island which is only 40 miles tip to tip Kailua is perfectly situated. We have the H3 highway, Pali highway and Like Like. As a Kama'aina I am thrilled to offer you suggestions to my favorite adventures here and off island.
Washing machine and dryer are provided and shared upon request.. It is furnished with a bunk bed and a new queen size bed. It is meant for a maximum of 3 adults or 2 adults 2 children.
We are located at the end of a quiet cul de sac.
You have a parking space next to mine in front.
I live on site with a friendly and sweet 4 year young dog, True. She mostly keeps to herself, but if you have treats that might change things.

Welcome to our charming vintage Hawaiian-style 2-bedroom, 1 1/2-bath Beach Lane home.
The Kalaheo Beach House is ideally situated on a private beach lane, in a serene garden setting, only 240 steps away (we counted them) from the world-famous Kailua Beach on Oahu's windward side. It's truly a four-minute walk out the front door and down the private lane to access beautiful, uncrowded Kailua Beach.
Outside the house, there is a large garden area with an outdoor shower, a breezy, lovely open deck with furniture, and a gas BBQ. The storage shed contains 3 small adult bicycles, 2 surfboards, beach chairs, small coolers, boogie boards, and float noodles for use at the beach. There is also a beach wagon to transport chairs to the beach. An open Hawaiian outdoor hot/cold shower is behind the house for you to enjoy when you come from the beach.
Inside the house, you will find another bathroom with a shower, toilet, and sink, as well as a 1/2 bath with a toilet. One bedroom comes with a NEW king-sized bed, and a second bedroom has two extra-long twin beds. We offer a 'pack and play' and a 'chair-mount high chair' for parents of young children.
There is a full kitchen with a full-size refrigerator, freezer & ice maker, full stove (but no automatic dishwasher), a dining area for 6, and a nice living room with a large flat-screen cable-connected HDTV and a fold-down futon. There is a large desk in the kitchen with Wi-Fi internet access for your laptop.
Most days, island trade winds and ceiling fans will keep you comfortable, but at night or when needed, there are new air conditioners for your added comfort in each bedroom, as well as a whole house fan and heat-reflective roof with heavy-duty attic insulation to cool the living/dining room.
There is a washer and dryer on the property and a double-wide parking space.
The property manager is very responsive. We will be as involved as you'd like.

With on site parking, a common use gated entrance leads you down a lava rock pathway to a private gated courtyard that contains a propane BBQ, water feature, patio table & chairs and lighted umbrella to enjoy your garden day or night.
The unit is on the ground level so there are no stairs. French doors open to an expansive, air conditioned, vaulted ceiling great room. Free WiFi and a cable service equipped 50” smart TV, invite you to watch your favorite shows from the clean and comfy seating area. The TV is on a swivel so you can turn and adjust it to your liking. There is a gray love seat and regular size gray sofa plus gray side chair for seating. Two small side tables and a coffee table with lamps are included in the living room area.
Full size book shelf across the room with several books for reading.
A desk and power strip is available if you need it. Ethernet avail. which is perfect if you plan on working remotely. We have good internet connection.
We have a fully equipped living space. You will find a four top kitchen table to share your favorite beverages and meals. Full sized kitchen cabinets, kitchen counter-tops, full sized refrigerator, oven, microwave and kitchen sink are available for meal preparation. We have both a Keurig coffee maker and a traditional drip coffee maker. We provide dishes, flatware, cups, mugs, wine glasses, cookware, toaster, brownie and cookie sheet, full size blender for smoothies, knives, sandwich bags, foil, seran wrap, hot pad mittens, kitchen towels and several food storage containers.Brand new Figment cookware has been added in the last several months including skillets and saucepans. The kitchen trash is under the sink area and there is a dish rack for cleaning and drying dishes.
The separate master suite is behind two large privacy doors. The suite has two blue Balineses side tables with reading lamps flanking a large, extra comfy memory foam king sized bed. The King Bed has a stately headboard and footboard with additional storage in the footboard area. There is a 5 drawer vertical dresser for storing clothing. We also have provided an additional desk, chair and lamp for additional work space. Hangers are provided in the large closet.
The quiet split A/C unit and ceiling fan in the bedroom keeps the room cool and serene. From bed, you can watch the ensuite 43" 4K TV or peer out two large windows into your private garden courtyard seating area. The bedroom has dark wood blinds that keep the room nice and dark when you prefer to sleep in.
Double sliding mirrored doors reveal a huge closet space with shelving to unpack and unwind. It is filled with all kinds of room amenities including bath towels, wash clothes, beach towels, toilet paper, additional bedding, a hair dryer and laundry soap.
The large ceiling fans in both rooms, the window A/C in the living room and the split A/C unit in the bedroom keep the whole suite feeling fresh and cool.
Laundry needs are met by the new front loading washer and dryer. We also provide an iron and ironing board.
Our bathroom is Wet room style with a dual shower head. This means the bathroom encompasses the toilet, pedestal sink and shower in one all encompassing space surrounded by gray slate tile, pebble stone tile flooring and teak louvred windows for air flow. We provide body wash, shampoo and conditioner. There is a shower stool should you need one. There is also a handrail on the wall should you need it.
It is a 5 minute walk to one of the nicest and quietest areas of Kailua beach, consistently rated as one of the world’s top beaches. We provide 2 beach chairs and 2 boogie boards. Walking the long stretch of Kailua beach is highly recommended for daily exercise or just an enjoyable day out in the fresh air especially during low tide.
When you return home from your day at the beach, there is a private outdoor hose area to rinse your feet, body and beach toys.
We are just a short 5 minute drive to Lanikai Beach and hiking at the Lanikai Pillbox for sunrise is a must!

Quiet, clean and relaxing space in my home in the Olomana subdivision at the base of Mt. Olomana in lovely and coveted Kailua. Spectacular views of Mt. Olomana. To stay here though, you must be a dog lover because you'll be greeted by Murphy (chocolate lab) and Lulu (bordoodle (border collie/poodle)), my welcoming party. This room has a comfy twin bed with a memory foam mattress and also a comfortable roll-a-way bed which also has a memory foam mattress.

Many guests inquire about just renting a car for part of their stay. The car decision is just per your preference. Many people do rent a car to stay here to go see other parts of the island. I certainly have guests who walk/bike to where they want to go as well
The beach is a 10/15/20 minute walk from us depending on walk speed. There is a cafe (Kalapawai), Acai place (The Sunrise Shack), kayak rental, Bobs pizza shop, Urgent Care about 25/30 mins away by foot. Its all super fast by bike and there is a nice bike lane between all.
Whole Foods or Safeway might be 40/60 mins away walking distance.
There are some good bike rentals in Kailua or you could just buy a used one (online marketplace). I dont provide bikes unfortunately just fyi.
I personally bike all the time, however we live at the top of a hill so use an electric bike.
*Friendly labradoodle on the property! *This unit is not under our main living area. It is underneath our outdoor lanai which we use sometimes more so on the weekends. Noise from kids can drift down through open doors from the pool or shared yard (not a yard they use frequently). All in all this is a very quiet space.
*House has lovely breeze with screen door closed and fan! We invite guests to use AC but only sparingly please🙏

The space
The house is in a very quiet and safe neighborhood - we have not locked our doors in 25 years. The Olomana Room (named after a mountain nearby) is a private room with a new Queen bed. The bathroom is right in the room (like in a hotel), it is yours and only yours, shower, sink, shelves, and commode. A lot of Hawaiian and Asian Art placed throughout the home. A saltwater swimming pool, large lanais (porches), colorful flower gardens await you. Lots of large windows throughout the house. The place hosts a large well equipped kitchen, fastest wifi, high ceilings, Split Air Conditioning (quiet) and more. For the adventurous or those who like to kick back and lounge around the pool. Some of us like it all. Many guests have started their day with hikes to waterfalls, stand up paddling, kayaking, and then settled into lounging around the pool. Kailua has added many new bars and restaurants over the past 2 years- brew-pubs, Thai, Mexican, Brazilian, Vietnamese, Sports Bars, traditional Hawaiian food, even a movie theatre with comfy reclining seats is just a 7 minute walk. The Bus (Award-Winning) has a stop at the end of my street. It has bike racks on the front and back and will take you all over the island.

Kayaks (one person and a two person, same rate) are $20/day for one and $30/day for two. I have carpet pads and straps to put them on your rental car w no scratches. Bikes are $10/day pp for 1 day, $8/day pp for 2 days, $6/day pp for 3-7. Always willing to work out a package deal if you want bikes and kayaks, or any combo - the more items and more days, the better the deal.
So you can bike to get coffee, shop, or go to the beach. I have a bike rack if you would like to rent it to take you and the bikes to a trailhead- need advance notice please. Or you might want to put the kayaks on top of your car and paddle to the nearby Flat Island off Kailua Beach or the twin Mokulua Islands off Lanikai Beach, both minutes nearby. I have the straps and pads to protect your car. You are very likely to see sea turtles as you paddle; take your camera, in a floaty waterproof bag of course. Be sure to stop at the famous Kalapawai Market for coffee and snacks.

Guests have street parking right in front of the house same side of street. Guests have access to large kitchen, dining, and living rooms, porches, garden area with hammock, swimming pool, laundry facilities. In your room is a flat screen Smart TV (most guests know how to use the TV but if you de-program it then I sometimes cannot reconfigure it). There is a large kitchen, you will have half a large fridge for you, your own dishes and utensils, your own storage cupboard for your food.
There is an additional, adjacent BR available for a nominal fee of $25 pp /nt. This additional fee is due at beginning of the stay. Note however that this room does not have a BA so your extra guest(s) would need to share the BA in the Master BR with you. Occasionally another larger room, the Sunroom is available to rent as well; it has its own dedicated BA but it is not en-suite - it is across the living room.
Access to BBQ grill- use carefully please, it is on its own cart that can be rolled to a safe place to BBQ without harming the fence or garden. The guests also have access to the 18,000 gallon swimming pool and lanai by the pool, the hammocks in the Buddha Garden in the back, and the laundry in the main house (use once per 6 days stay please, conserve water and electricity, 3rd most expensive in the world, highest in US). You have free use of yoga mats, blocks & bolsters, Hand weights. I will provide bath towels, beach towels, daypack, cooler w blu ice packs, and beach mats.
Upon request you can rent bicycles, stand up paddleboards, kayaks, surfboard, or body boards.
Body boards are $4/day or 2 for $7/day. Rent for more than one week for 30% discount.

During your stay
In the house there is myself and a caretaker in his own room on the premises as I travel quite often so guests can get help whenever it is needed. He keeps the place clean, manages the pool and gardens, hammocks, and sporting equipment. Occasionally my 21 year old daughter, Lili, stays with me when she visits for a weekend or other breaks from University of Hawaii-Hilo. So when I am in the house you will see me in late mornings, and a bit on weekends when I am not out bicycling, hiking, or doing yoga. I am happy to teach yoga at beginner level to intermediate. I have all the yoga mats and props needed. I also have hand weights and other small gym equipment. Lili and I will play ukulele or mbira for you if you wish. Sometimes we have other musicians and concerts- mostly Hawaiian music or soft folk-rock. I have loads of guide books, trail maps, bus route maps, and brochures on activities to do: everything from the Mokulua Islands, Byodo-In Temple, to Polynesian Cultural Center, The Bishop Museum, Iolani Palace, to snorkeling, hiking, kayaking, cycling and more...

Occasionally there is a single guest in the Sunroom in the main house. It is on the opposite side of the house from this Olomana Room and the optional additional room (Ko’olau). (S)he has his/her own bathroom.
There is a second full size refrigerator in kitchen so when occupied you would share half of the full size fridge with him/her. You have separate dishes, utensils, food storage.

The space
The Dolphin Suite is a small private studio (about 150 square feet) with AC. Small kitchenette is equipped with mini fridge, microwave, coffeemaker, single hot plate, and tableware. This is to prepare light meals only and not full meals. Free internet access available to keep you connected to family and friends depending on your device. Hosts cannot troubleshoot connectivity. Suite is decorated in the colors of Hawaii's oceans, beaches and plants, the Dolphin Suite creates an ambience for a restful vacation. One private parking spot located a few feet from your door eliminates the additional expense and hassle of finding a parking spot and dealing with elevators in high-rise hotels. The pathway to the Dolphin Suite is "cobblestone" so it is a bit uneven and bumpy which may cause some mobility issues. Other guests use this path to get to their place which is behind the Dolphin Suite. You may hear them walking past. The large private bathroom hosts a walk in shower and handmade shell mirrors add to the decor. While the Dolphin Suite is attached to the main home, there is a private entrance allowing you to come and go as you please. We understand the damage pesticides have caused to our fragile world so we use an organic spray outdoors every few months to keep the occasional ant or bug at a minimum. Please know that geckos (Hawaiian house lizards) are very common. They do not hurt you nor is it a sign of uncleanliness. They eat the mosquitos and we are appreciative of that. Your vacation in Hawai'i is one to be enjoyed and if the occasional ant or gecko may be disruptive you may want to look at a hotel or other accommodation. We want you to take home positive memories of your time with us and in Hawai'i. The hosts live on the property and are able to answer any questions you may have.
Please be aware that there is no smoking on the property. This is for the health of a family member. For safety and policies only registered guests are allowed on property. Please be aware of this if you have family and friends on island. Please do not share details, address or information with others. A home can become a target if it is known to be a visiitor accommodation.
Kailua is about a 30-60 minute drive from Honolulu International Airport depending on traffic. With public transportation this takes about 1 hour - 90 minutes and requires a bus transfer to make connection to Kailua. While Kailua is easy to navigate by foot and we are conveniently located, a rental car is recommended if you choose to venture and explore other parts of the island.

Guests have access to the Dolphin Suite and ONE parking space. No parking in front of neighbor houses as this could jeopardize our license. We must follow state guidelines. To ensure privacy for other guests and host family, all other areas of property are off-limits.

Please follow the checkout procedures: Empty trash in the bins located by the mailbox. Blue for recycling, green for compost and grey for normal rubbish. Wash all dishes properly and return to the cupboards. Please put glasses and cups upside down. Leave key on the table and door unlocked upon checkout. If you use the air conditioner please close all windows and doors. Failing to do so will result in damage to the unit and you will be accountable. Turn off the AC when you are not at home. If you keep your windows closed and the thermal blocking curtains closed, your room should remain cool when you return home. We live next to a park so occasionally the dust may blow inside. This is normal living in Hawaii.

The space
We are a very close walk to Kailua Beach and minutes from Lanikai Beach. At roughly 600 sq ft, this upstairs studio suite is spacious modern, and clean with lots of windows offering sunrise and mountain views.
New construction features bamboo floors, quartz countertops and a river rock shower floor to massage your feet. The kitchenette has a full size refrigerator, sink, microwave, toaster, single burner hot-plate, dishes and cutlery. There is a Queen size bed and a Full size futon. We also offer a gas grill for cooking outside.
Our tropical breezes are cool and refreshing, but for those who prefer air conditioning, that's also available.
We provide coffee and tea for your first morning, but you may want to stock up on fresh produce at the local farmers market (offered 3 times per week).
Help yourself to a beach chair and towel and take a short stroll to Kailua Beach. Stop off at the famous Kalapawai Market where they can make you a delicious deli sandwich for a picnic lunch or serve up a latte just the way you like it.
Once you return to your home away from home, rinse off in the hot outdoor shower, hang your wet things out to dry and perhaps take a nice nap before heading out to the charming town of Kailua. You'll find many restaurants to choose from in all price ranges. Our kitchenette is designed for minimal, light cooking.
If you choose to venture out to explore, Kailua is the perfect get-anywhere location. The island of Oahu is only 40 miles tip-to-tip, so you can explore it all quite easily. Honolulu and Waikiki are just a half-hour away. As your on-site hosts, we will help you discover and enjoy our beautiful island.
Owners live on site and we are happy to help you with any questions and to provide you with our local knowledge. We have a friendly dog on-site. She does not have access to your space.

The space
The room is large, with vaulted ceiling, two private entrances, private full bathroom, & private lanai (porch). Decorated w Asian Art and Antiques from across SE Asia. With one queen bed and a Queen Sleeper Sofa (new Aug 2017) you settle in for a deep sleep after playing in the surf or hiking the ridges or jungle. Two large closets w shelves keep your belongings organized. You have your own small lanai and access to the pool in back and the Buddha Garden with hammock. The neighborhood is very safe and quiet. Free use of yoga mats, blocks, bolsters, snorkels, beach mats, umbrellas (beach & rain)(URL HIDDEN)We have bicycles, kayaks, stand up paddleboards, and boogie boards for rent. Kayak (we rent two) or Stand Up Paddle to offshore islands (we rent two of these), hike to Maunawili Waterfalls, visit the serene Byodo-In Temple. Climb the Lanikai hills to see the sun rise over the Mokolua (twin) Islands. Do yoga in the yard, lanai, or living room – we have all the mats or accessories you need. Or just relax in the hammocks in under the he'e tree.
Feel the aloha in this very large Sunny Studio. Situated on a dead end street, there is Off-Street street parking and no through traffic. At night you hear the breeze and smell the plumerias and crown flowers (unless you prefer the air conditioning- Solar powered). No horns, no revving motors, no motorbikes.
Kailua is small enough for quiet, yet only 25 minutes to all the nightlife you could ask for in Waikiki. On the Windward side, Kailua is very green and cooler than the hotter Honolulu side. Kailua hosts the most beautiful white sand beaches of all the islands: Lanikai Beach is featured in many articles on the top 10 beaches of the world, Kailua beach is very long with white sand, and Waimanalo Beach is very long and even less crowded. There are several hiking trails very near: Maunawili Falls, Olomana Mountain, 'Pali' trail, Lanikai Pillbox.(URL HIDDEN)Plenty of plugs for charging your electronics. WIFI high-speed internet. Windows on 3 sides of the studio allow maximum air-flow if you choose the floral-scented breezes over the air conditioning. Or you can feel the windward breeze as you sleep.
A complete kitchen with a full sized refrigerator for storing your groceries. Limited use of washer/dryer (see house rules). The magic word is Mahalo.
You have access to bicycles in good shape (lock em up plz), 2 stand up paddleboards, ocean kayaks (one 2-person, one solo), 4 boogie boards, rental rates are described in 'Guest Access' section. So you can bike to get coffee, shop, or go to the beach. But you might want to put the kayaks on top of your car and paddle to the nearby Flat Island off Kailua Beach or the twin Mokulua Islands off Lanikai Beach, both minutes nearby. You are very likely to see sea turtles as you paddle; take your camera. Be sure to stop at the famous Kalapawai Market for coffee and snacks.
Green conscious hosts, please recycle. No Smoking. No cats or dogs (bird, fish, rhinos okay). Street parking right in front of house. Cable and WIFI high-speed internet.
Guests have access to the lanais (porches), swimming pool, garden/hammock area, yoga mats, blocks & bolsters. Laundry facilities on premises - once per 4 days max. I will provide bath towels, beach towels, daypack, and beach mats.
Upon request you can rent bicycles, stand up paddleboards, kayaks, surfboard, or body boards. Stand Up Paddleboards (one 11', one 9.5') for $15/day/one or $25/day/two. Rent for 3 or more days and you get a 305 discount. Bicycles (3 mt, one youth mt. bike), There is only one surfboard, a 9'3", and it rents for $15/day. Kayaks (one person and a two person, same rate) are $20/day for one and $30/day for two. I have carpet pads and straps to put them on your rental car w no scratches. Bikes are $10/day pp for 1 day, $8/day pp for 2 days, $6/day pp for 3-7 days. Body boards are $4/day or 2 for $7/day. Always willing to work out a package deal if you want bikes and kayaks, or any combo - the more items and more days, the better the deal.
When I am home and not traveling, I tend to be around in the mornings, but I will be busy taking care of business on computer, taking care of the house, and doing yoga. In afternoons I am working in Kailua. In the evenings, I get home around 8 PM.
I love the crystal silence. Because it is a dead end road there is little traffic. I love the view of the Lanikai mountain and the plumeria flowers in the neighborhood.
A 2 minute walk brings you to the end of Iana St, where 'The Bus' stop is. The Bus has won awards for its convenience, modern buses (hybrids), and routes. It is quite easy to use; you can even put a bike on the front of the bus.
We are a non smoking household, my 14 year old daughter (half-time) and myself. The magic word is Mahalo. If you are a smoker, kindly smoke out front on the far side of the garage - depending on the wind of course, downwind. Parking is off street, right in front of studio, but outside security gate.

Guests have access to the lanai/porch outside the French Doors of the unit. Access to BBQ grill. The also have access swimming pool and lanai by the pool, the hammocks in the Buddha Garden in the back, and the laundry in the main house (use once per 4 days stay please, conserve water and electricity, 3rd most expensive in the world, highest in US). WHEN YOU GO TO THE POOL, PLEASE GO OUT THE FRENCH DOORS AND ALONG THE GARDEN PORCH - to give me and others privacy do not go along the south side bedroom windows. You have free use of yoga mats, blocks & bolsters. I will provide bath towels, beach towels, daypack, cooler w blu ice packs, and beach mats. Upon request you can rent bicycles (3 mt, two cruisers), kayaks, surfboard, body boards. There is only one surfboard, a 9'3", and it rents for $20/day. Kayaks are $20/day (have a one person and a two person, same rate), also have straps and padding for car to carry them. Bikes are $10/day pp for 1 day, $8/day pp for 2-3 days, $6/day pp for 4 days, $30/week. Body boards are $4/day or 2 for $7/day. Always willing to work out a package deal if you want bikes and kayaks, or any combo - the more items and more days, the better the deal.
Other things to note
Kailua is a great launching place to discover the entire island because it is cooler, quieter, greener, and less crowded than most of the island. Its a small island - I have raced around it on foot or a bike (112 miles). So it is easy to visit even the most remote corner (Ka'ena Point) and return in time for supper and sunset walk. Many guests who stay, do so for at least a week, and settle in, yet see the entire island. Every minute here is precious so you won't want to spend it moving from place to place because there is no need.
