- "Loved the second floor casita. Great balcony for bird watching! Nice bar/restaurant on the property. We took a snorkel tour with the onsite dive shop. The first part of the snorkel trip was amazing, but sadly we both got very seasick and the last half of the tour was miserable. But the tour guide, Santiago, was great! We definitely want to return and try again." - "Most the area is cash only. All services are solar powered" - "Everything was very good. Only complaint was bed was hard as a rock but that’s not a deal breaker. Staff was super friendly. "

"Casa Piedras", the house of Stone, is remotely located within the Cabo Pulmo National Marine Park. The house is situated in the pristine bay of Las Barracas, backing to the Sierra De Lagunas mountains.
This little “off the grid” casa brings inside living outside with the fully covered veranda porch. There you can have your coffee and watch the sunrise with all the morning bird activity. You can view the vibrant animal life of the Sea of Cortez with seasonal whales traveling through, jumping manta rays, and ospreys perched scanning for their next meal. At night, feel as though you are among the stars in an area with virtually zero light pollution. Directly across the roadway is Las Barracas beach where you can go for a kayak paddle, look for the signs of nesting sea turtles or just lay in the warm sand and read a book.
The quaint town Cabo Pulmo is a 1.5-mile drive south. There you will find several restaurants, scuba diving, snorkeling and fishing operators, and whale watching tours. Another 3 miles south is Playa Los Arbilitos, a fantastic protected beach with amazing snorkeling, gentle waves, and smooth sand that makes this beach great for children. Twenty miles farther south, the famous surfing spots begin such as Nines Palms and Shipwrecks. In the opposite direction, is the small town of La Riberia, where you can get limited groceries or have an over-the-top cocktail at the Four Seasons. Twenty minutes further north is the Larger town of Los Barriles. It is known for its outstanding kiteboarding and windsurfing. This town is busy with a high Expat population and a multitude of shops. Los Barriles also houses many sports fishing charters companies.
- "My husband and I truly appreciated the care that the owner obviously has for his very special house. Amazingly peaceful. I want to give a special call out to William, the property manager. He was so communicative and helpful, coming to the house on a couple of occasions just to make sure all was well. We shall return!!!" - "We truly enjoyed our stay here. Peace and quiet and all the comforts of home. We enjoyed all of the care that was taken to set up all of the details in this beautiful home. We will definitely be back!"

Surrounded by astonishing natural beauty on the beach between the mountains and the sea Casa Bahia de Los Frailes, "Casa Bahia", is a luxury vacation venue without the crowds. Combining breathtaking views with high-end amenities, this beachfront villa offers a 340 degree panoramic vista of Frailes Bay and the Sea of Cortez, with wide sandy beaches and desert mountains everywhere you look. Casa Bahia is accessible by car from San Jose International Airport, by air (private 2300' dirt strip) or sea (natural anchorage) and just a short drive to Cabo Pulmo, a pristine natural marine sanctuary, now protected as a National Park, offering incredible snorkeling and diving opportunities among one of North America's few living coral reefs. Casa Bahia itself offers great year long swimming and diving in front of the house and surfing a short drive away. If you're a nature lover seeking to experience the legendary biodiversity of the Sea of Cortez without sacrificing creature comforts, this villa is for you.
Outside, Casa Bahia offers a front-row seat to paradise. Relax around your 45’ infinity-edge swimming pool as you admire the brilliant aquamarine hues of the sea where you will seasonally find nesting and hatching sea turtles, breaching whales and jumping Mobila Rays. Settle into a lounge chair with a good book. Most of the indoor furniture and all of the outdoor furniture was handmade to our specifications, is generously sized and comfortable. Heat up the Wolf gas barbecue or the wood-fired Santa Maria grill, part of the outdoor kitchen, to prepare the catch of the day. Sip a cool drink at the sunken palapa-shaded outdoor bar equipped with ice maker and fridge. The large pool deck also includes an outdoor shower and heated jacuzzi. There are plenty of ways to relax and enjoy the wonderful Baja weather. Head down to the beach directly in front of the villa to play in the clear turquoise water. The water in summer reaches 85 degrees and in winter is rarely below 70 and the beach is the most wonderful swimming beach in all of Baja. In the evening, the fire pit is a perfect spot to gather under a canopy of stars.
Inside, the villa offers filtered water, safe to drink, to all the taps in every room. We invite you to enjoy a spacious and inviting getaway with friends or family as well as the privacy of your own room and balcony. Each of the six attractive master bedrooms offers travertine floors and counter tops, pocket doors, private decks, an en-suite bathroom and ocean views, even from the shower. Family gatherings often orbit the gourmet-quality kitchen, with island seating and open to the dining and living rooms. The twin island kitchen boasts professional appliances and the large adjacent indoor and outdoor dining areas each of which comfortably seats up to 10. Casa Bahia's attentive staff of three is available to pre-stock the fridge, pantry and bar with your choice of food and beverages (cost plus 25%) and can provide delicious home-cooked meals (nominal additional charge). When you're ready to explore, some of the region's finest snorkeling, kayaking, scuba diving, surfing and fishing are within easy reach.

The 90+ min commute from San José to los Frailes is more than worth it because of the beauty, tranquility and privacy this property and its environment offer. - "We stayed in Cabo Pulmo 2 days / 2 nights for diving. Junior is very friendly and welcoming, he takes care of any guests, he has a lot of beach stuff that you can enjoy for your stay. He explains everything about the rules and conditions in the park. Air conditioning doesn't work anytime because of energy restrictions and it could be difficult during the night (we were in August) despite the fans. Anyway, Cabo Pulmo and the nights on the rooftop to see the stars is just magical!"

It worked perfectly for our group of six for a week. We spent our time snorkeling, swimming, kayaking, watching whales, staring at the ocean from one of the many outdoor seating areas, watching the stars at night, hiking, doing puzzles, playing games, reading, and of course eating lots of fabulous food. Our host, Junior, set us up with everything we needed and more, and was super kind and helpful. Cabo Pulmo is quite a magical place for a low-key and relaxing vacation, and this house was wonderful. - "The most beautiful place on the beach! This house is a living work of art! The furniture and decor is exiting, amazing and one of a kind. Our stay was super comfortable. We had all the amenities necessary to make us comfortable. Would have loved a hair dryer that I did not bring but otherwise everything was excellent. The garden is s paradise full of birds and song and the views from the top floor breathtaking . Thank you for everything!" - "This was our 3rd stay, second time with friends. The design of the whole compound works so well by providing great gathering spaces, yet plenty privacy if you want it. We spent a lot of time just enjoying the desert garden, the fountain, and the wildlife (at least 12 species of birds visited the garden). Discovered a new slogan folks are using for Cabo Pulmo: Bad Roads, Good People. So true."

- "The attention to detail in everything in El Encanto is beautiful. The gardens are filled with diverse, unique plants, the yard is filled with birds, and the house is filled with fun art and artistic details. We love the simple, friendly town at the end of the road, and the "Tacos and Beers" restaurant on the water." - "We love to be surrounded by art, and El Encanto is indeed a work of art. Charming and comfortable is a combination that can’t be beat! The bed was nice and firm (and we’re picky about that because of my husband’s back issues), the kitchen well appointed, and the book and DVD selection divine. There was even a book written by someone I know. The property manager, Junior, is wonderful—responsive and meticulous, and a wealth of information. He was very helpful with advice on snorkeling locations, although we didn’t get to do as much as we’d like because the wind kicked up. We also enjoyed visiting with the other guests who were staying in the casita. If we had any recommendations, one would be that the mosquito netting over the bed should be unfurled between every guest so the debris can be removed, and inspected for holes. We didn’t actually use it or need it, but it looked a little worn. All in all, though, we had a great time!"

- "The house is in a beautiful, remote location. We had a good family holiday, and enjoyed the beach and the dunes. I highly recommend having a car with high clearance as the road is unpaved. We had a rented sedan and hit a rock hidden when the road was getting graded which destroyed the radiator and the bottom panel of the car. Bring all your food." - "The house was beautiful, the views were INCREDIBLE, and the hosts were friendly, communicative, and helpful. Will be staying here again."

- "Such a beautiful, comfortable place to come home to after long beach walks, rugged drives, snorkeling, hiking…a wonderful place to prepare a big meal to share as the sun sets over the desert. If convenient night life is your thing, this isn’t your spot, but if you’re looking to enjoy infinite stars, miles of deserted, white sand beach and gorgeous desert and willing to invest in a big grocery haul before you leave the city, this is your place! We had a marvelous time. (Don’t be frugal on car rental. We were and regretted driving a Jetta. It got us there and around, but slowly and there were a few places we couldn’t get our car to. A high clearance, 4WD car will shorten drive times between the house and various east cape destinations)"

IMAGINE... a private, luxurious casita on a pristine, secluded, white, sand beach, warm azure waters, offshore reefs, fantastic fishing, and tropical evenings with the moon rising over the Sea of Cortez.
Casita Luna Azul - a dream that can be yours - is located one hour from Los Cabos Airport. Los Frailes is located on the Sea of Cortez on the East Cape. This casita is very remote just off a beautiful, pristine beach with the closest neighbor three miles on each side. A rental car is essential and you will also need to take groceries with you as there are no supermarkets nearby!
Casita Luna Azul is approximately 14 miles south of the Tropic of Cancer on the Sea of Cortez in beautiful Baja Mexico. Luna Azul is located on a point of land approximately six miles south of Los Frailes Bay. Bahia Los Frailes is adjacent to the pristine Cabo Pulmo National Marine Park. The town of Cabo Pulmo is just to the north.
This Baja Casita will sleep 2 people. There is one bedroom with a queen-size bed . Relax under the waterfront palapa with a good book, take long walks on the pristine white sand beach collecting seashells, or enjoy fishing trips, scuba diving, snorkeling, and kayaking in the gentle protected waters of Bahia Los Frailes in the Sea of Cortez. Just minutes from this Baja vacation rental, divers and snorkelers will enjoy the only living coral reef in Western North America and delight in the abundance of Baja sea life with over 300 species of tropical fish and a resident, sea lion colony. The fishing is world class and is some of the best in Baja; tuna, wahoo, grouper, cabrilla, and marlin abound. You can fish right from the beach or kayaks but we do not encourage spear fishing.
Do as much or as little as you like and at the end of the day relax under the starry skies, listen to the waves lull you to sleep. What are you waiting for? Come to Casita Luna Azul, East Cape, Baja California Sur, Mexico. Casita Luna Azul is the ultimate, vacation rental on the East Cape of Baja Mexico.
Hop on over to Cabo Pulmo Marine Park for a dive on the reef, or make a day trip to San Jose Del Cabo, Cabo San Lucas, or La Paz. Los Frailes and Casita Luna Azul are the perfect places to spend your Baja Mexico vacation. You will have everything: privacy and pristine beaches with hardly any other people.

- "Spent a week at this property in January 2023. Secluded and serene location and not difficult to reach if you have a vehicle. Beautiful long beach in front of the property with very few to mostly no other people present. Well appointed, lovely and spacious casita. Very responsive and conscientious hosts. Don’t miss the opportunity to go snorkelling via Cabo Pulmo, to a protected UNESCO coral reef site (15 minute drive north of casita). On a beautiful day we saw humpback whales, sea lions, dolphins and many colourful fish amongst the healthy coral reefs. We plan to visit again (but maybe at a less windy time of year)."

Casa Breezes (Brisas) is a self-catered and self-operated two bedroom house located in the breathtaking beauty of the East Cape of Baja. The main floor features a large living room, kitchen, bedroom, bathroom, and covered and uncovered decks. The large second bedroom is on the 2nd floor with its own small kitchen, sitting area, bathroom, and sun deck. So the house it’s ideal for two couples (each floor is not available separately, you get the whole house). The house is accessible by car in about 1 ½ hours from San Jose Del Cabo and the Cabo Airport. It is situated in a small enclave of Canadians and Americans in the secure community of Castillo de Arena on a hillside overlooking fantastic sand dunes and the Sea of Cortez. The beach is a 12 minute walk or 3 minute drive away. When we are there we swim most days just off the large sand dune. Pickle ball and bocce ball courts close by. The community is 8 km south of Los Frailes, the start of Cabo Pulmo national park and a wonderful snorkel spot where you can buy fish directly from the fishermen on the beach. We are 16 km south of the town of Cabo Pulmo, a world-famous coral reef diving site where tours are available and 1hr 20 min from the Los Barriles kite surfing area. The home is about 1,900 square feet; the first bedroom is on the main floor, and the second is upstairs accessed by outdoor stairs. Both bedrooms have queen beds. The house sleeps up to 5 with an air-bed available for the kids or extra guests. One or two well- behaved dogs are welcome. Both bathrooms have showers and there are laundry facilities on the main floor. There is free internet, a BBQ (grill), and fully equipped kitchens. In the living-room, watch your netflix or listen to your favorite music. There is a BBQ area, and several palm roof shaded patios to lounge, gather for meals, and enjoy the breathtaking view. We often see whales frolicking off-shore and colourful sunsets over the mountains. The community is off-the-grid and operates on solar energy and propane. You won’t tell the difference though, except that hair dryers and toasters are not permitted as they drain the solar energy batteries. Our caretaker (English speaking) lives nearby and is available during your stay. Unlike some vacation rentals, we spend several months a year here so the kitchens are really fully equipped and the house is clean and well maintained. We have a UV purifying system for the water as well as bottled water available. All dishes, cooking utensils, bedding, towels, paper products, and cleaning supplies are provided. You will need to bring your own food.
Rates include 19% Mexican tax. Six-night minimum.
- "Easy @" - "A friend and I stayed five nights at this sublime property a few weeks ago after touring other parts of southern Baja. We couldn’t believe our luck. This house is beautiful and well situated in a super friendly neighborhood of houses just south of Los Frailes Bay, 20 minutes south of Cabo Pulmo, just over an hour north of SJDC. House is Adobe style and stays comfortable day and night. Kitchen is well appointed and whole house is super clean. Nice new gas grill and gas chiminea outside on veranda. Excellent desert and Sea of Cortez view from everywhere in and on this house. The location is just remote enough to feel like you are totally out there, but still close enough to shoot into town for gas and groceries or up to Pulmo for diving. The caretaker, Wynn, speaks English and Spanish and is an excellent host with loads of insider local knowledge. He had us 4 wheeling up on mountain roads used mostly by local ranchers, deep into the desert mountains on a day too rough and windy to be on the ocean. Julie the owner is very helpful and also provides ample info on the house and area and gave us some very useful maps of the area and neighborhood which made finding the place a breeze. I have stayed in over 30 VRbO type properties over the years This has to be the best value in a stay I have ever had and one of my top few favorites. Will definitely be back, next time with my family!"

- "Perfect for our group." - "This house is beautiful and has a great location (just 150 meters away from the beach). We did not get to meet Pat and Deb but they took care of everything. Junior and Ben welcomed us on their behalf and they made sure we had everything we needed to enjoy our stay." - "We had a fantastic time staying here in Cabo Pulmo for our honeymoon. The house is located right in the center of the (very small) town and you can walk to anything you want to get to, the local restaurants, the scuba dive/snorkel shop, and the beach. The house has a beautiful veranda with an ocean view and breeze, a roof deck to see the stars, and a great kitchen for cooking. We couldn't have asked for anything better :)"

Casa Pezz is a unique off-grid house on the East Cape of Baja Sur, Mexico. The 2-story, 2-bedroom, 3-bed, 3-bathroom house has an intriguing octagonal floor plan beneath a traditional mexican palapa roof. It is located in the secure community of Castillo de Arena, which is comprised mostly of Canadians and Americans. The house is on a hillside with an expansive southeast view overlooking the Sea of Cortez. The beach is about 1/2 mile (800 m) east -- a 12-minute walk or 3-minute drive. Sunrises from the porch are a definite highlight. It is rare to find such a secluded, quiet, safe, and clean setting where one can enjoy hikes up the numerous arroyos or long walks on an empty beach. Casa Pezz is a great place to experience Baja Mexico, a lot of space to contemplate the mysteries of the universe, while fishing, diving, eating, and having fun with family and friends. Where the desert meets the ocean, and the sun shines over 300 days a year.
The house works well for 4 people: 1 or 2 couples, a couple with 1 or 2 children, or 3 singles. The upstairs is one large common area (~1400 sq ft with bathroom) beneath a traditional palapa roof, with the kitchen, a large dining table for 8 people, two leather couches, leather pillows, a leather recliner, and the TV/internet. One corner is enclosed with a bathroom toilet and sink with a large, rock-enclosed, outdoor shower. The downstairs bedroom (~400 sq ft) has 2 twin beds and a couch, and a bathroom toilet and sink with a large indoor shower. The twin beds can be joined to make a king bed.
There is no carpet -- all the floors are rock or cement. All the showers and countertops are tile and rock. There is no furnace or air conditioner or dishwasher. For the hot months, there are several electric oscillating fans upstairs and downstairs. Most of the year, the fans are not needed-- the ocean breezes are very comfortable if not chilly some mornings.
The palapa roof has an open cupola, which allows for nice ventilation upstairs -- sometimes birds fly into the house, as most are welcome visitors. Expect to find lizards and geckos around the house, in the windows, and sometimes skittering on the inside walls. Geckos are one of the few lizard species that make a noise or a chirp. They are nocturnal so you will hear them almost every night. They do not bite, and there are very few biting insects in Baja.
Food and Water
You will enjoy your time here the most if you come prepared with plenty of your preferred foods, drinks, and entertainment. Unless you want to spend most of a day driving the East Cape Road to San Jose to go shopping, you are advised to bring as much food and supplies as you will want for your stay. Numerous spices, oils, and condiments are provided at the house, but if you have a certain preference for something, you should bring it. Water at the house and in Cabo Pulmo and Los Cabos is safe to drink. Purified water is provided at the house.
There is no dishwasher, microwave oven, or electrical appliances other than a small coffee maker and coffee grinder. Please no hair dryers or curling irons, they draw too much power for the solar system. There is a large propane BBQ grill/smoker, with numerous accessories, and dining table for 6 people on the front porch.
Unless you like to cook, consider eating a few meals in Cabo Pulmo so as to enjoy the fresh local seafood, the real fresh-squeezed lime margaritas, and meet some locals. The 5 or 6 restaurants in Pulmo are excellent, and it is a brief scenic drive from the house. Fresh fish tacos every day! Octopus ceviche and aguachile. The Casa has a list of local restaurants, locations, and what they offer.
Off-Grid Living
Living off-grid comes with the responsibility to be judicious with the use of electricity. The bank of PV solar panels at Casa Pezz (at noon on a sunny day) have a maximum capacity of 2.4 kW, which is relatively large for the house's typical demands. The refrigerator/freezer is a constant draw whereas TV, internet, and lights are used mostly during the mornings and evenings. Understand that several cloudy days may restrict your use of power, and your mornings could get "dark." The lights are all LED or fluorescent, but it pays to turn them off when not needed. Dead batteries also means food in the refrigerator may get warm. Basically you have the responsibility to conserve electricity to ensure you have plenty of power to enjoy your vacation.
Cell Service
There is no cell tower reception once you get about 10 miles away from San Jose del Cabo. No one gets cell service no matter your provider, so do not plan on calling, texting, or using Google Maps to navigate. Once you get close to Cabo Pulmo, there is a cell tower, and you can pick it up on some of the ridges nearby. The significance comes about if your vehicle breaks down or you are stuck and in need of a recovery, you cannot call me or your rental company or AAA or anyone from most points along the East Cape Road. Options are to hitch a ride either north to the house or south to San Jose until you can get cell service.
Leave the safety of civilization and cell phone service, and one soon realizes how remote this small spot of outback Mexico is on this huge planet, even though San Jose and Los Cabos Airport are only 30 miles away. One small part of the adventure at the house on the East Cape is to know what it means to be, and to know that you are, self-sufficient.
Location
Casa Pezz is located near the middle of the East Cape of Baja Sur (Latitude 23.304768°N, Longitude -109.436210°W), approximately 10 miles south of the Tropic of Cancer (23.45°N). The East Cape is lined with white sand and coral beaches with warm, clear waters of the Sea of Cortez that make for excellent diving and some of the world’s best sportfishing.
Casa Pezz is accessed via the East Cape Road (Camino Cabo Este), which is a rugged, seldom-graded, dirt and sand road. There are 3 different routes to access the house from San Jose Del Cabo International Airport, and they all take 1 ½ to 2 hours to drive (see below). The Casa is 2 ½ hours drive from Cabo San Lucas.
A high clearance vehicle with good tires is advised for driving all routes to Casa Pezz. Small compact cars do OK, just slow going in several sections. Watch for occasional cows, burros, goats, dogs, and humans. Plan that it takes two hours to drive, especially when leaving to catch a flight. If a hurricane or tropical storm has visited the area recently, check with someone locally before you get halfway and have to turn back. Make sure you have a usable spare tire and a good jack. It is difficult to drive the East Cape road fast unless you have a dune buggy or a Baja Trophy truck, which may pass you. On the East Cape Road, like other dirt roads in Mexico, there are no restrictions on what type of vehicle you can drive, and there is no speed limit. So when you see motorcycles and buggies, and derelict old work trucks in the rear view mirror, best to pull over where possible.
Climate
The climate is arid with over 300 days of sunshine, with some years of over 350 days. Average annual rainfall is 10 inches (25.4cm), with more rain occurring during the month of September than the other months. The hottest months are July, August, and then June, with highs in early August regularly around 95°F (35°C), and rarely dropping below 79.3°F (26.3°C) at night. The least humid month is May (26.7% relative humidity), and the most humid month is September (55.4%). Probably the most comfortable time to visit is December through February, when the average high temperatures are between 82.9°F (28.3°C) and 77°F (25°C), moderate humidity, and it might sprinkle rain on a rare day or two.
Wind on the East Cape is calm, except during infrequent tropical storms. On average over decades of records from San Jose, the windiest month is June, followed by July and January. June’s average wind speed of around 7.8 knots (9 MPH or 14.4 KPH) is considered “a gentle breeze.”
Hurricane season in Los Cabo officially runs from May 15 through November 30. The stormiest weather occurs in September, and often, there is very little. Usually the worst weather is a few days of higher than usual winds and waves, with some heavy rain. Very few storms or hurricanes have actually “hit land” on the East Cape, but some have, like "Odile" in 2014 that hit Cabo San Lucas. The weather can change fast on the East Cape, and storms can be expected during the summer months. It will be obvious when large tropical storms are building, and then it pays to watch weather forecasts.
Fishing
The East Cape of Baja is known for some of the world’s best striped marlin fishing, as well as world-class dorado and yellowfin tuna. The fishing grounds off the East Cape are very close offshore, in the relatively calm and warm waters of the Sea of Cortez. Occasionally, only 15- to 25-mile runs will be needed to reach the bite, but on most days you can hook billfish just a mile or so off the beach where a few deep canyons run adjacent to the coast. Middleweight game fish hug these East Cape inshore waters, whereas striped marlin, blue marlin, black marlin, sailfish, dorado (mahi-mahi), and tuna prowl the deeper offshore waters.
Scuba Diving
With over 850 species of reef fish, the Sea of Cortez is one of the most prolific bodies of water on Earth. Cabo Pulmo National Park offers world-class scuba diving and snorkeling on the few remaining living coral reefs on Earth. Scuba diving here is known for encounters with large pelagics such as whalesharks and giant mantas, and it is one of the areas where hammerheads school. Dive with enormous schools of reef fish found no where else in the world.
