- "This was the most mismanaged, disorganized hostel we have stayed at. The mattress springs are shot so you dont sleep, the bathroom is gross, the refridgerator isnt cold so our food spoiled, there is no front desk/reception....we waited 2 1/2hours for our room, the barbecue is broken, the kitchen was never cleaned, the hostel dog howls at night & during the day takes a dump in the grass by the pool, etc etc The worst is the staff from the nearby reataurant coming in late at night making noise, smoking weed and leaving the clean up for guests the next morning. There is no respect for the guests . Save your money and look elsewhere!"

- "We picked Wirikuta online, never having seen the hotel in person, although we had visited Lo de Marco on day trips during our many winters in Mexico. Wirikuta has a cool (a plus) and nice swimmable pool, although it needs a serious and regular cleaning. Lots of green growth on the bottom and edges. The front desk staff of Isobel and Jessica are fantastic. Cheerful, happy and responsive. They made our stay comfortable and fun. Our room was nice with modern fixtures and tasteful. But it was poorly equipped. No knives, no toaster, no blender, no hand towels or plate scrubbers, no drawers for storing anything. The rooftop at Wirikuta is fantastic. 360 degree views of the mountains and ocean. We played cards up there and had drinks from the bar, which they had just opened. Unfortunately, the waiter up there, Fernando, was not friendly and had trouble getting our orders correct, even though two of our group spoke Spanish reasonably well -- meaning it wasn't a language problem. They had some good musicians play in the new rooftop bar, which we enjoyed, and they only played until 9 pm, so it wasn't a problem for any of the hotel guests. The kitchen for the rooftop bar/restaurant is on the main floor and it's two flights of stairs to the top. I wished they had put the kitchen on the roof and used the main floor space for a coffee bar for hotel guests in the morning. The hotel provided beach chairs, bikes, body boards and surf boards for guests to use. Would stay again."

Lo de Marcos is a small charming town. There are a couple of good restaurants, grocery stores, pharmacies and, of course, a fabulous beach with an adjoining estuary offering great bird watching. Check out the town square which is the social hub. There are often fun local events happening there.
For fine dining and shopping you can go down to San Francisco (called San Pancho by locals), which is 20 minutes south of Lo de Marcos or drive another 5 minutes further to Sayulita. 15 minutes to the north is La Peñita, with banks, ATM’s and a fun Thursday market selling arts & crafts along with deliciously fresh fruits and vegetables.
There are taxis available to and from the airport also in Lo de Marcos and upon request. If you really want to explore, we recommend a rental car which is available at the airport or in Sayulita.

Our villa is located on the beautiful, sandy, swimming beach of Los Ayala which is approximately 1 km. long, just perfect for a jog or relaxing sunset walk.

The Terraza suite encompasses the entire top floor of the home and is appointed with beautifully furnished with hand carved furniture, original works of art, hand painted dishes and bathroom fixtures (even the toilets!).

It has a fabulous terrace over-looking the ocean, two hammock chairs, a large hand-woven hammock, lounge chairs, BBQ and two dining areas.

A massage therapist is available at our guests' request for a private in-suite massage at a very reasonable rate.

Our special little town of Los Ayala which is located in Riviera Nayarit (or also known as the Mexican Riviera) caters mainly to Mexican tourists but is rapidly being discovered by folks further afield.

There are many palapa style restaurants on the beach, nearby groceries stories and a collective taxi service which will take you to the nearby towns of Rincon de Guayabitos or La Penita. From there, it is easy to catch a bus to Guadalajara, Tepic, Puerto Vallerta or other small towns nearby such as San Francisco or Sayulita which are surfing towns.

On the beach, enjoy purchasing fresh fish, prawns, muffins or other delights including pineapples filled with fresh fruit. One can never go hungry on Los Ayala beach!

There are many things to do here such as fishing, hiking, boating, tennis, kayaking, biking, visiting interesting sights such as the petrogylphs, visits to the various hot springs, the weekly outdoor market or the boat tour through mangrove swamps to view a multitude of wildlife including crocodiles and many varieties of birds in historic San Blas.

Just on a side note, be aware that this incredible home is located in a bit of a remote area, so it’s impossible to avoid bugs on the premises. Transport to and from the airport and Sayulita is easy. Open plan due to first bedroom divided off by decorative concrete block and second room without door. Curtains provide partial visual privacy. A small safe is provided for your valuables.

NOTE: bedrooms are not closed off from one another and it has more the feel of one big open space. This is traditional in many local homes. While the casita can sleep more than 4, please consider the open floor plan before booking.

House has WiFi but internet in village is inconsistent. House has four ceiling fans for ventilation. No air conditioning nor clothes washing machine. There is a full service laundromat three blocks away.

Bathroom, while functional, has low water pressure .

SAFETY for CHILDREN / ACCESSIBILITY: There is a recently constructed upper shaded patio with a minimal hand rail and narrow, spiral stairwell. Some electricity is surface run and homes in this area are not wired with grounded outlets.

NOISE: Casita Estrella is located in the vibrant center of town where there can be much activity. Neighbors have chickens, dogs and roosters. It is next to the local Catholic Church and the bells are loud. Once or twice a week, there is a "Rooster Mass," as the locals joke, meaning the church bells are rung at 6:30am in time with the local roosters crowing. Also, the house is off a square used for basketball and soccer play, so games go on a few nights a week. We love hearing the locals (adults and children) playing sports, like having a live sports feed. There can be a game playing or a bouncing basketball until 11pm at night. Basketball and soccer ball provided. Neighbors play traditional music loud on occasion.

It was comfortable, clean, and located very conveniently near the beach and everything else. The location was safe and the house completely secure. And there was a great place to park our vehicle right outside the door - a bonus. The house itself had everything we needed for a great vacation which, in our case, included cooking, relaxing, outdoor activities, beachtime, movienights, and sleeping. We live in Mexico and so are familiar with vacation rentals here and I can tell you that the bed linens are usually terrible and uncomfortably hot (which is a big negative as we all spend about half our lives in bed). So it is worth noting that this was not the case at Casita Estrellas! We were delighted at the plentiful pillows and cushions, and high quality bed linens and towels (particularly the comfy cool bedding). And then there was the service… the property management & housekeeping service by Ani and her team went beyond expectations in terms of friendliness, helpfulness and response time. Example: I needed a medical specialist for an injury and Ani was able to quickly refer me to what turned out to be the best osteo doctor in Nayarit. Ani’s response time, no matter how trivial the matter, was fast and helpful. Ditto for the owner Jennifer who was very friendly and extremely helpful as well. I could sit and write a long list of all the things I loved about our stay at Casita Estrellas but I don’t really need to because I can sum it up in one word… “fabulous!” I would love to return and very highly recommended Casita Estrellas.
