You don't have to leave the property to have a wonderful vacation. The property is a unique mixture of agriculture, equestrian property, estuary and 800 year old trees leading down to the ocean. Horses and deer are companions. Expansive fields, walking trails through private forest, 1/4 mile running track and grass areas for family games such as bocce ball, badminton, croquet and soccer. We have lots of lawn games here to use. Various walking trails along the ocean bluff. 40 fruit trees can be enjoyed during the fruit picking seasons. In the summer time you can swim off the dock in waters heated by the tidal sands. Digging for clams and oysters is also a favourite pastime in season. Horses on the property are always there for a good nuzzle looking for a carrot or treat. This private and beautiful house is spacious and comfortable for large groups or families who enjoy nature. We are perched above the “Great Trail” and within 2km of downtown Chemainus. You can drive to Victoria in 1 hr or to Nanaimo in 30 mins.

There is comfortable parking for 3 vehicles, including a carport. Gardens and lawn provide a private, shaded space to enjoy the fresh air. Enjoy fresh herbs grown year long in the front garden!

The studio suite is located on lower level while the owner lives on the upper level of the home. The suite has its own private entrance and outdoor patio. My home is close to everything that Chemainus has to offer - Kin Beach and the very best Thai Restaurant in Chemainus is around the corner. Everything is within walking distance - Latte and Expresso coffee, Shopping,, a market and world famous murals that illustrate the history of Chemainus. Also Live Dinner Theatre, golfing, hiking trails. You may want to take a day trip to Thetis Island. This ferry is 1 block from my house. Lots of fun and adventure to be had in our beautiful little town on the sea.

Indoors you will find 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms for both adults and children.

The second bedroom comes with a new queen bed while the third bedroom has a bunk bed with singles best suited for children.

There is a full sized second bathroom located between the second and third bedrooms.

The well appointed living room space provides comfortable seating, bay view windows, AC, and smart TV to watch your favourite streaming services.

The open plan living room also has a large dining table that supports six diners with both chairs and bench style seating.

The Wayward Inn provides a relaxing and charming private apartment suite. As you drive up to the house, you are greeted by panoramic ocean views and beautiful gardens.

Our suite is perfect for families, couples, solo travellers, or any combination of up to 4 people.

Nestled in the heart of a charming seaside town, The Wayward Inn is a cozy, inviting escape filled with vintage treasures and lush plants. A breath of fresh air, this modern suite has a West Coast vibe.

The suite offers everything you need for a relaxing stay: a comfortable pull-out couch, a queen-sized bed with a Canadian-made mattress, and a luxurious soaker tub with a shower attachment (please note there is no standard shower). The fully stocked kitchen includes a dining area and the covered outdoor patio in our garden is ideal for morning coffee, rain or shine. We even provide umbrellas and toothbrushes—just in case!

On rainy days, cuddle up on the couch with complimentary popcorn and watch Netflix on the large flat-screen TV and a selection of DVDs. You’re also welcome to log into your own streaming services.

We take pride in offering locally roasted Salt Spring Coffee beans, a coffee grinder, and a choice of brewing methods including French press, pour-over, and drip coffee maker. Coffee not your thing? There’s also a selection of Westholme Teas from the Cowichan Valley, featuring both black and herbal blends.

We love all flora and fauna, and take great joy in wild spaces. Our home is surrounded by beautiful shade and flower gardens, a vegetable garden, and a small orchard. Surrounded by vibrant gardens, a vegetable patch, and a small orchard, our home is a sanctuary for nature lovers. We practice permaculture, using compost from our chickens and incorporating native plants like sword ferns. When in season, enjoy complimentary fresh produce from our garden—now that’s local!

Guest access:
Guests have exclusive access to the private suite and patio: these areas are entirely yours to enjoy, offering privacy and tranquility throughout your stay.

Please note that there is one locked storage closet off the living room that is not accessible to guests.

Additionally, the stairs leading from the parking space to the suite and patio are shared with a small office located in our backyard. While it’s rare, you may occasionally see someone using the stairs.

Other things to note:
A heads-up: We are parents! Our little one arrived in October 2022, so you will hear us upstairs from the suite as we live above it. We appreciate your understanding! Earplugs are provided in the bathroom cabinet, just in case.

If you’d like the pull-out couch bed set up before your arrival, just let us know when booking, and we’ll be happy to prepare it for you.

At this time, we are unable to provide snow or ice removal. However, we happily offer road salt and a snow shovel—just ask if it's needed and not left on the patio ahead of time.

This is a 3 bedroom private suite with all amenities and comforts of your own home.

A cosy and bright space hosting 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, a full kitchen, washer, dryer, living room, lounge, and a deck. The deck accesses the carport and there is plenty of parking for multiple vehicles. A front lawn provides a private, shaded space to enjoy the fresh air.

There are 4 comfortable beds - 2 queen, 2 singles. Comfortable for 4 people if they all require separate beds. It can host up to 6 if there are couples in the group. Additionally we have floor mattresses to accommodate the rest of your party

Children under 2 stay for free

We live in the quiet town of Chemainus. We have all necessities near by including a grocery store, pharmacy within a 3 minutes

Luxury awaits you in the Camelot Suite on the upper floor of our Castle. The Camelot suite features the comfort of a bed for a king and a bath for a queen.
You can enjoy a good book in the sitting area and prepare your own snack or light meal in the kitchenette. It offers a quiet hideaway with plenty of room to relax.
Private entrance, can have no contact entry. Close to the beach, 2 lakes, grocery store, and shops.

About this space
Relax in Sunny Saltair with amazing mountain & ocean views in a private 600 sq ft cottage, just steps off Boulder Beach. The Salty Mermaid offers a roomy queen bedroom + queen Murphy bed in the spacious living room, park at your door, step free entrance, full sized stocked kitchen (oils, spices, tea, coffee) free laundry. Swim, beachcomb, paddle board & explore nearby parks & trails. 7 minutes drive to quaint seaside towns of Chemainus & Ladysmith for Theatre, pubs, music, fine dining, thrifting & shopping. 25 min to Ferries + Duncan or Nanaimo.
The space
The Salty Mermaid is a 600sq foot, private fully air-conditioned and playfully decorated ocean themed cottage with a 200sq foot Lanai front deck plus garden. Everything you need to cook, relax or work (if you can take your eyes off the views!) is provided. Furnishings, decor and appliances are new. A sandy beach is steps off the driveway. Paddle boards available on request. Guests are welcome to entertain friends on the expansive deck and lawn space with BBQ and propane firepit. Blackout curtains in the Queen bedroom ensure a restful sleep, and laundry facilities are in the unit. Queen Murphy bed in living room (to accommodate from 2-4 guests). Baby travel bed (crib/change/playpen combo) available by request.

All of the guest space is private for guest use. Step free entrance, inside space, and low barrier shower.
Other things to note
The cottage bedroom is set up ideally for 2 guests, but comfortably accommodates an additional 2 adults or kids on a Queen sized Murphy bed in the living room, by request. We welcome LGTBQ+ guests and motorcycle tourists. We are accessible (level driveway, no stairs entry to and inside the cottage).

Child Friendly

Our house has big windows and lovely views of the lake. Nearly two acres of garden running down to the dock from which you can use the pedal boat, paddle board, go fishing for trout - the lake is stocked annually - or swim. Note: there is no fence round the lake. There is a heated outdoor shower under the cedar trees. The patio faces west and is wonderful for alfresco meals from the bbq or easily catered from the kitchen. The sitting room faces south and is a comfortable place to relax. The main dining room can seat 10 while the family room table seats 6 - breakfast in shifts?! We are situated close to Chemainus arena for hockey, skating and fitness room, and there are courts nearby for tennis and pickleball - we have bats! You can also play croquet or bocce ball on the lawn here. The grocery store is about 7 minutes drive away as is the golf course.

Sight otters, seals and birds from the living room. Occasional sighting of whales and orcas is also a possibility. The house in a quiet cul-de-sac with all the amenities just a short drive away. Stairs from the patio take you down to the beach where you can enjoy a stroll along the shoreline.
