There may be construction on these homes during your stay but they are respectful to work within normal work hours and trying to keep noise to a minimum. We look forward to having you visit us and stay in the place we love to call home.
- "We thoroughly enjoyed our 3 night stay at “Taste The View”. It surpassed our expectations and Karen and John were wonderful hosts, very kind and thoughtful. Everything we could have imagined was stocked in the kitchen and lovely touches in every room. The Anniversary card, Prosecco, fresh loaf of bread, snacks and beautiful vase of Hydrangeas was an unexpected surprise and so greatly appreciated. When I mentioned I wasn’t able to grow any zucchini this year, one magically appeared for us from their garden. Thank you! This is our first VRBO stay and Karen and John have spoiled us as I don’t think we’ll ever be able to top this. We are looking forward to another stay at “Taste The View” in the future. Our worry free luxury cottage is our second dwelling on our main resident property and therefore is risk free of unexpected cancellations.
Here at the Sailors’ Rest our goal is to give our guests an experience to remember and tell their friends. This project and final product is a culmination of the artistic designs of one of the hosts that took a 2-car unfinished garage and repurposed it into what you see, using the Naval decor from your other host’s personal and family history of their father and his own service as Commanders in the Royal Canadian Navy. You will see various paraphernalia, pictures of Naval tradition and history throughout. While you are here don’t forget to sign the log book and tell us about your stay.
As our pampered guest you will have the luxury of being in your own private space, well equipped to fully enjoy your island getaway, private event, or celebration. The Sailors’ Rest is fitted with a nautical inspired fence, to give your crew and possibly furry friends, additional privacy. You will also have access to the gazebo and surrounding gardens and putting green through your garden gate. Please note that your furry companions will not have access to this shared space without you in attendance. If you are looking for someone to look after your furry friend for a period of your stay, we can connect you to our trusted pet sitting provider.
As your hosts, Mich and Michael, we are pleased to have you drop your anchor and spend some time sharing our little oasis. While we appreciate you choosing the Sailors’ Rest as your vacation destination unfortunately we will not always be on location. As ships pass we will wave hello and wish you an amazing stay. Of course if there is something you need please send us a message, we suggest using an app rather than a bottle;)
We are not a waterfront or water-view property, though we are only a few minutes walk down to the ocean. We are also right next to an off-leash dog park, tennis courts (we have rackets and balls for you to use), pickle ball courts, and kids play area. If you are bringing your bikes or running shoes there are lots of trails to explore near by. We also offer a putting green for you to use if you are interested in hitting a few balls and practicing your swing.
- "For a visit to Vancouver Island, this is the perfect location!!!! Amenities are excellent, grille, hot tub, full kitchen all in perfect working order. Communication with the owner was exceptional, JUST A WONDERFUL STAY!!! You are in the middle of VIs wine country, so kind of like an idyllic farm setting. Nanaimo and Victoria are only about 1/2 hour away, we went down several times to sit in the Victoria Harbor and took MULTIPLE ferries from Nanaimo. We had a lovely relaxing overfed time. We even popped over to Bright Angel Park for a little swim in the river, and popped into the local Thrift store and found a cute little treasure for a friend who didn’t get to come! Do your research before you come, loosely plan, check when the places you want to visit are closed and then come and enjoy and relax! Maybe visit the Cidery on the way in, buy some to go…"

- "I would have loved to move in to this cosy, stylish place with the enchanting view. It had beautiful decor, amenities and an excellent location for all of our desired Cowichan activities. Nice quiet, romantic spot. would definitely return!" - "The house was immaculate and gorgeous. The view was amazing. The art and furniture exquisite. We ended up having great stay. However, when we arrived it was unbearably hot (95F) and we really needed AC. For the future, in the summer, the house needs AC. It didn’t cool well with western exposure. But, it is the most beautiful, spacious and comfortable place we’ve stayed in Pacific Northwest. (Beds great too.) I’d come back in a heartbeat."

Architect-designed 3500 sq. ft. home on one acre of Vancouver Island waterfront. Ceramic radiant-heat floors. Clean, quiet, heat. Quality appliances in the very complete kitchen. New beautiful Samsung Virtual Flame Induction range with dual oven. New stainless fridge.
Eighteen-foot ceilings in living room. Artist's loft. Modern classic west-coast design. Three very spacious beautiful bedrooms - each with ocean views and comfy beds. Living room and master bedroom with fireplace. Luxurious bathrooms with walk-in shower and soak tub. Toilets in separate rooms from bathrooms. Relax in the hot tub at night with the stars above and the ocean in front of you. Enjoy our collection of original art, books and beautiful gardens. Sixty-five foot deck and walls of glass give views of eagles, orca whales and sailboats. New plasma flat screen, Free Netflix. Free high-speed wireless internet connection for your laptop and ipod dock for your music.
Art and Gardens:: ---Carolyn is a professional artist and you will enjoy her paintings in the studio loft and throughout the house. The gardens and grounds that surround the house will add to your outdoor pleasure and of course there is always the gentle lapping of waves on the beach.
We have several returning guests who enjoy 'Seagate' as their special vacation get-away and a great pleasure for us is making new friends through email and sometimes in person. Because of the care from past guests, we no longer ask for a damage deposit and we do not charge for cleaning. We regard our guests as 'family'. The entire house and grounds are yours to enjoy in privacy.
The Ocean: --We are located on a bay that is protected by Saltspring Island. Often there are canoe and sailboat races in the bay and during the summer we keep our own sailboat in front of the house. It is not unusual to see eagles, herons, and other birds. On several occasions, we have had orca whales in the bay and this spring, three humpback whales.
At night we often enjoy a glass of wine in the hot tub overlooking the ocean. We are in a very safe, private, quiet location with no through traffic and yet close to Victoria and local shops. At night you will most likely only hear the soft sound of waves or the call of a loon.
Vineyards: --We are located in the prime wine producing area of Vancouver Island with many vineyards just a short drive away and one of the best is just a lovely 15-minute walk from the house. If you enjoy wine, try a tasting tour of the wineries. Information will be in the house. The quaint fishing village of Cowichan Bay is only a 10-minute drive away with what our guests describe as some of the best bread and ice cream available-- and of course, seafood. Great to stroll on the docks to inspect the boats!
- "A lovely house full of interesting art. Spectacular view and wonderful hosts. Highly recommended." - "The house is spectacular with million dollar views. The massive terraced garden is superb. It was nice sitting on the deck in the evening, enjoying the weather and watching the boats coming into the bay. The property felt like home to us and it had everything we needed to relax and fix some special meals. The property is a little bit out of town but the area is very quiet and peaceful at night. We were able to explore the area and the local sights, enjoy some great restaurants and take advantage of some of the local golf courses. Melody the property owner was fantastic at providing information on local points of interest and some of her favorite dining spots. We would not hesitate to stay here again."

- "This stay was great from start to finish. The hosts were super helpful and welcoming. The whole property is amazing. The decor is an eclectic blend of collectibles from all over the world. The unit was clean, organized and well stocked. The beds were comfortable and there was a smart TV in both bedrooms and the living room, and bidets in both bathrooms. We had our own washer and dryer to use whenever we liked and the stove, oven, microwave and fridge were all clean and worked well. We didn't use the dry sauna but it was there if we wanted to. The hot tub was clean and the private deck has a fire table, BBQ and outdoor kitchen and overlooks the neighbour's pasture with beautiful views of deer and a horse. We had access to the huge back part of the property that was original forested land with trails that provided a place to take serene strolls and would be perfect for anyone who likes to meditate in nature. It was such a treat to hear the birds and see the squirrels around the unit. The hosts were always accessible and went out of their way to make sure every part of our stay was enjoyable. They are currently working on several projects around this huge property that are sure to make the setting even more beautiful in the future. This property and its hosts definitely earned the 5 star rating we gave it."

- "The home is as described and the hosts were very responsive. We had a great stay and would recommend to others." - "We really enjoyed our stay. The house was clean and cosy and the back deck and its views were everything!! It was a nice touch that the owners gave us a gift card for a delicious bakery nearby. Would definitely stay here again!" - "My husband and I had a wonderful stay at this beautiful home overlooking stunning Cowichan Bay. We loved the many windows and open layout of the living area which maximized the view and natural light. We walked down to the restaurants and shops a few times, not a bad walk if you don't mind a rather steep hill. There was plenty to do nearby, and we especially enjoyed the kayak estuary tour. The only slight negative I have is that I was not expecting there to be a tenant in the basement, until the owner included that fact in the checkin information. The tenant was quiet and we only saw them once out the window, but I think that information should be disclosed prior to booking. That being said, the pros of this place were so high that we would still definitely stay here again if we are fortunate enough to be able to visit Cowichan Bay again!"
