Welcome to The Farmily, beautiful 3,000 square house surrounded by 40 acres set on the ocean in the Cowichan region just outside of Chemainus. Very private acreage for a family or friend gathering. Perfect for children of all ages with nature walks, fairy houses on the trails, lakes and golf courses outside your door. Kyaking from your own private ocean front around the small islands and exploring the coastal waters is a lovely way to see the westcoast landscape. 3 Kyaks and oars are all provided. You don't have to leave the property to have a wonderful vacation. The property is a unique mixture of agriculture, equestrian property, estuary and 800 year old trees leading down to the ocean. Horses and deer are companions. Expansive fields, walking trails through private forest, 1/4 mile running track and grass areas for family games such as bocce ball, badminton, croquet and soccer. We have lots of lawn games here to use. Various walking trails along the ocean bluff. 40 fruit trees can be enjoyed during the fruit picking seasons. In the summer time you can swim off the dock in waters heated by the tidal sands. Digging for clams and oysters is also a favourite pastime in season. Horses on the property are always there for a good nuzzle looking for a carrot or treat. This private and beautiful house is spacious and comfortable for large groups or families who enjoy nature. All four bedrooms have private ensuites and there is a lower level relaxation, yoga and play area. All yoga mats, props already provided. Wonderful for any self directed workshops, book clubs, quilting groups or yoga groups looking for a spacious area to set their workshops. Our small family lives in the suite below and when not travelling ourselves, we love to host and meet people.

The mini split heating system (white remote) in the living room is easy to use and is your main temperature control to keep you comfortable throughout your stay.

We are perched above the “Great Trail” and within 2km of downtown Chemainus. You can drive to Victoria in 1 hr or to Nanaimo in 30 mins.

There is comfortable parking for 3 vehicles, including a carport. Gardens and lawn provide a private, shaded space to enjoy the fresh air. Enjoy fresh herbs grown year long in the front garden!

Ocean Room - bright oceanside room with great views, ensuite with shower, queen bed and mirrored closets.

Mountain Room - this mountain side (Mt Brenton) room holds cozy twins beds with twin size mattresses that look out on large rhododendrons.

Forest Room - this mountain side room has an elegant queen bed to complement the beautiful Dogwood and Cherry blossoms that it looks out on in Spring.

The studio suite is located on lower level while the owner lives on the upper level of the home. The suite has its own private entrance and outdoor patio. My home is close to everything that Chemainus has to offer - Kin Beach and the very best Thai Restaurant in Chemainus is around the corner. Everything is within walking distance - Latte and Expresso coffee, Shopping,, a market and world famous murals that illustrate the history of Chemainus. Also Live Dinner Theatre, golfing, hiking trails. You may want to take a day trip to Thetis Island. This ferry is 1 block from my house. Lots of fun and adventure to be had in our beautiful little town on the sea.

Spectacular sunrises are to be witnessed from the east facing windows and property.

Indoors you will find 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms for both adults and children.

The primary bedroom has a comfortable king size bed and ensuite with walk in shower.

The second bedroom comes with a new queen bed while the third bedroom has a bunk bed with singles best suited for children.

There is a full sized second bathroom located between the second and third bedrooms.

The well appointed living room space provides comfortable seating, bay view windows, AC, and smart TV to watch your favourite streaming services.

The open plan living room also has a large dining table that supports six diners with both chairs and bench style seating.

The fully equipped kitchen will ensure the chef in your group can create wonderful meals for your group to enjoy. There is additional seating and table for 4 in the kitchen nook.

Guests have exclusive access to the private suite and patio: these areas are entirely yours to enjoy, offering privacy and tranquility throughout your stay.

Please note that there is one locked storage closet off the living room that is not accessible to guests.

Additionally, the stairs leading from the parking space to the suite and patio are shared with a small office located in our backyard. While it’s rare, you may occasionally see someone using the stairs.

Other things to note:
A heads-up: We are parents! Our little one arrived in October 2022, so you will hear us upstairs from the suite as we live above it. We appreciate your understanding! Earplugs are provided in the bathroom cabinet, just in case.

If you’d like the pull-out couch bed set up before your arrival, just let us know when booking, and we’ll be happy to prepare it for you.

At this time, we are unable to provide snow or ice removal. However, we happily offer road salt and a snow shovel—just ask if it's needed and not left on the patio ahead of time.

We live in the quiet town of Chemainus. We have all necessities near by including a grocery store, pharmacy within a 3 minutes

Our house has big windows and lovely views of the lake. Nearly two acres of garden running down to the dock from which you can use the pedal boat, paddle board, go fishing for trout - the lake is stocked annually - or swim. Note: there is no fence round the lake. There is a heated outdoor shower under the cedar trees. The patio faces west and is wonderful for alfresco meals from the bbq or easily catered from the kitchen. The sitting room faces south and is a comfortable place to relax. The main dining room can seat 10 while the family room table seats 6 - breakfast in shifts?! We are situated close to Chemainus arena for hockey, skating and fitness room, and there are courts nearby for tennis and pickleball - we have bats! You can also play croquet or bocce ball on the lawn here. The grocery store is about 7 minutes drive away as is the golf course.

Our outdoor covered patio with a comfy feel and a bbq is one of the best features of our home. Hang out outside and cosy up by the fire table while enjoying the gorgeous ocean and mountain views!

This cosy and bright space has 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, washer & dryer, full kitchen, dining room, living room with wood stove and tv, reading room and office overlooking the ocean, and a large balcony with a comfortable lounge.

Ocean Room - bright ocean side room with great views, Queen size bed and en-suite with shower.

Mountain Room - this mountain side (Mt Brenton) room holds 2 comfortable twin beds that look out on large rhododendrons.

Forest Room - has an elegant queen bed to complement the beautiful Dogwood and Cherry blossoms that it looks out on in Spring.

Travel Crib - Bjorn Brand available for infants, toddler mattress available

Bathroom - a very spacious room with shower and tub, large mirror, hamper, toilet & sink.

All bedrooms have their own thermostat. Fire/CO detectors installed. Fire extinguisher, vacuum, supplies in closet.

Additionally, we have floor mattresses (sofa bed) to accommodate larger groups.

We recently added a new AC and Heating system in the living room to make your stay more comfortable during weather events such as heat waves or cold snaps.

Home made products are throughout the space by Carla’scompany called sea baby bliss.

When attending a wedding we may request a damage deposit of $150 that we will give back to you upon a final suite inspection at the end of your stay. In the past our linens have been badly damaged, so we expect you to leave the suite in the condition that you find it in.

The entire suite, carport, gardens, and front lawn is for your use. Carport accesses the deck and house, with a house key in the lockbox at this entrance.

Other things to note
Our family of 4 with 2 small children (6 and 4 years old) lives in the suite below you so please be mindful of this. Although we have a soundproof barrier we can hear if you jump or make a lot of noise

We want your stay to be comfortable and we provide quality linens so please take care of them. If you have a toddler who is still potty training we can provide you with a top sheet so the mattresses stay free of stains and nice and clean.

A Weber barbeque (Q1000) is available for use in your outdoor patio space

For wedding parties, bachelor or bachelorette parties, we will add a cleaning charge of $150 to the current charge (non-refundable) and will require a damage deposit of $500 (only refundable if suite is left in very good condition).

The suite is centrally located, which is quiet and peaceful. It is walking distance to the Sawmill Tap House, Riots Brewing, shopping and townsite of Chemainus. Echo heights (Wul'aam park) is directly across the street with a great network of forested trails!

The space
Space has a private entry way and in the Summer months you can enjoy fresh Spinach and Lettuce from the garden. The yard has unique trees known as the Weeping Sequoia, many Hummingbirds, Thrush and Cow Birds.
The full Kitchenette offers a toaster oven, induction plate, mini retro fridge with freezer and a second fridge with a larger freezer and microwave. The back deck is covered so guests can BBQ in any weather. The heated bathroom floors are nice for the feet. The large bedroom offers a Queen bed and closet. The living room has a comfy couch and chair, smart TV with Netflix plus WIFI.

Guests are welcome to enjoy the bottom deck area and backyard. The owner will have to water planters during the Summer months and cut the grass in backyard. Laundry usage just off suite as there is no laundry facility in Chemainus. The closest laundromat is in Ladysmith.

Other things to note
Chemainus is close to great Mnt biking trails such as Maple Mountain or Tzouhalem. The murals around town are nice to discover and the theatre in town is open again. The Cowichan Valley Trail is 8.5km, which follows the scenic Ocean side from Chemainus to Saltaire. If you enjoy Paddle boarding or Kayaking and you don't have either one can rent from Sealegs at Transfer Beach 15 min scenic drive to Ladysmith. If you have your own PB or Kayak one can put in at Kin Beach or Transfer Beach to explore the Gulf islands and the estuary. If your interested in Wineries, Salt Spring and Shawnigan Lake area provide wine tasting in the Summer months. Merridale Cider has a lovely Bistro to enjoy an afternoon of garden dining and Cider tasting. Being centrally located the activities are abundant.

The space
The guest suite is 1000+ sq ft, while the covered deck/patio area is over 400 sq ft. In the spacious living room the Smart TV provides access to your YouTube, Netflix and other streaming accounts (no cable), and of course the internet. Eating area is amply equipped with dishwasher, fridge/freezer, microwave, Keurig coffee machine, soda stream, popcorn machine, and blender.

Guest access
The entire guest suite is located on the first-level. The backyard is your exclusive private area to suntan, picnic, relax or play. Please enjoy. The hosts live on the top floor. Guests park on the right side of driveway in front of “parking” sign. Additional parking is available next to this and on the street in front of the cedar fence.

Guests can drive (3 mins), walk (15 mins), or bike to nearby Shopping Centre on Oak Street for grocery with coffee shop, restaurant/pub, micro brewery, pharmacy with Post Office, 24-hour gym, liquor store, bank, and dollar store. Downtown Chemainus is 2-3 km away, while Old Town Chemainus is 2 km.

In Old Town you'll find the Chemainus Health Care Centre and Clinic, thrift store, restaurants, bakery and Salish Sea Market for First Nation art and souvenirs. Kin Beach is pet-friendly, a great spot for picnics, and includes a play area for children and boat launch.

Downtown Chemainus has Waterwheel Park with scheduled events, the world famous Chemainus Theatre, restaurants, pet store, churches, mechanic/garage, Silvermine Jewelry, banks, Post Office, and Mt Breton Golf course.

Other things to note
There are many walking and biking trails in the area. The Cowichan Valley trail, part of the Trans Canada trail, is a 108 km (67.4 miles) multi-use trail that goes to Lake Cowichan and Duncan. It is stroller-friendly.

Nearby freshwater fishing is accessible at Fuller Lake (5 kms) , and 5 kms to Chemainus Lake. Chemainus lake has a 2 km walking trail around it. For fishing tips, please talk to the host :-) Fuller lake (across from the skating rink) is a great place to picnic, swim, kayak and boat (non-motorized). It has a children's playground and fishing pier.

A heads-up: We are parents! Our little one arrived in October 2022, so you will hear us upstairs from the suite. We appreciate your understanding! Earplugs are provided in the bathroom cabinet, just in case.

If you’d like the pull-out couch bed set up before your arrival, just let us know when booking, and we’ll be happy to prepare it for you.

The washroom was also fully renovated with a shower and a tub.
We provide shampoo, soap, conditioner, towels, hair dryer, Q-tips, nail trimming kit and first aid kit to make your stay as comfortable as possible.
Please be mindful of our septic system and only flush human waste and toilet paper down the toilet, nothing else :)

Families with children, please let us know if you need a pack and play, and other baby equipment such as bottle warmer, baby monitor, high chair etc. We can provide most of the essentials with some notice.

Other things to note
The area offers a lot to do, as we have hiking trails, beaches, farmer's markets and lakes less than 15 mins away.
Many local cideries and wineries are also a nice place to spend a sunny afternoon.

You can also hop on a ferry (15 mins drive) for the day and visit Salt Spring Island!

Many kid friendly activities to enjoy near by: pet farms, train station museum, raptors park, water park etc.

The suite is located in a pretty rural neighborhood where you will encounter deer, rabbits, owls, eagles, hawks and many more wild animals.
Please no loud noises or music past 9pm, as our neighborhood is very quiet.

Notes:

The pack and play is a portable and collapsible play pen. In Canada we do not use extra mattresses or bedding, as this can increase the risk of suffocation.

This playpen base may seem “hard” but it is a firm foam lining the bottom, and this is how they are made in Canada for safety. There is no extra mattress, or cushions to put into the playpen and we do not advise anything extra is added. This risk is also displayed on the play pen. The space
This private upper unit has just been fully renovated but has kept it's original charm. The home provides a quiet, peaceful and relaxing escape.

There are two spacious bedrooms with a super comfortable queen bed in each. The rooms have closet space and dresser space for you to use.

We have a large living area with a 60" smart TV. There is also a large sectional couch that turns into a third bed if you need it (an extra guest fee will be included for any guests beyond 4). Blankets and pillows are provided.

The kitchen is fully stocked and ready to prepare a meal in. Attached to the kitchen is a washer and dryer for you to use.

Our completely renovated bathroom has a full deep soaker tub and rain shower. We also have a brand new half bathroom for your comfort.

We have just constructed a large private deck overlooking beautiful Fuller Lake with furniture and BBQ for you to enjoy. There is also a large front yard with a firepit, seating area and garden.

WiFi and TV with Crave streaming service and Pluto TV channels is provided.

We have included eco-friendly features into our renovation and into the items we supply you. This includes a heat pump for heating and cooling, sustainable wood features in the kitchen and compostable coffee pods.

The kitchen is fully stocked and ready to prepare a meal in.

There is a completely renovated full bathroom with bathtub and shower. We also have a brand new half bathroom with laundry.

All of the indoor and outdoor space is available for our guests to use. Step free entrance, inside space, and low barrier shower with seat. We are fully accessible (level driveway, no stairs entry and step free indoor space).

Other things to note
The main bedroom is set up ideally for 2 guests (+room for baby cot in bedroom), and can comfortably accommodates additional 2 adults or kids on a Queen Murphy bed in the suite's living area (by request).
🌈We welcome LGTBQ+ guests and area is ideal for bicycle tourism.
1 small dog (under 30lbs) welcome for small additional cleaning fee.
