Eggemoggin Reach is home to some of the most ardent sailors around. From the front yard, you can watch the yatchs as well as nesting osprey, bald eagles, the occasional seal, and many sea birds. Our backyard is often visited by pileated woodpeckers. Rental of this cozy, all inclusive apartment includes use of 300+ ft of private ocean frontage, a huge front yard with 2 picnic areas, charcoal grill, a semi-private dock, 2 ocean kayaks, a row boat, and 2 ocean kayaks. A short kayak ride away, you can watch starfish as they move about on the rocks under the crystal clear water. Blue mussels can be gathered from the rocks in the cove and cooked in the well-equipped kitchen of the apartment. There are lobsters, crab meat, clams and fish from local fishermen. There are also many restaurants and shops in the area. Few properties offer as continual parade of sailboats, fishing boats and schooners passing the front yard as this one!

The perfect place: This mother-in-law apartment is the perfect place to forget the world and its stresses. As you sip coffee on the balcony, reading your favorite book or paper, you can hear the sea gulls on the beach and the wind in the trees.
If you prefer, you can take your morning coffee out to the benches at the end of the pier and watch the sunrise. Any time of day, the views and peace are rejuvenating and relaxing.

Don't like to relax? Paddle a kayak or row the boat around Stave Island or along the shore of Eggemoggin Reach. Be sure to watch for the starfish on the rocks at the point of Stave Island and elsewhere. Most couples who stay for a week, wish they could stay for two.

The perfect island: Little Deer Isle and Deer Isle are actually two islands joined by a causeway. The communities are marvelous. You have the opportunity to watch fishermen on the job and arts of all types. The arts are such an important part of the island community that it was easy to raise private dollars to add a performing arts theater to the new elementary school. The Reach Center for the Arts is a state of the art auditorium and is used by the school and the community to produce and provide live performances of all types. It is fun to see your local doctor, child, or fisherman performing in such productions as 'Little Orphan Annie.' At least four full plays are performed every year along with many music venues including jazz. The Stonington Opera House also provides nightly entertainment through movies, plays, and performances of all types. This year, the Opera House and the Reach Auditorium have received a Kennedy Center for the Arts grant to further expand their performances and offerings.

Other offerings: Haystack School of Art, Seamark School, and several local artists offer classes in glass blowing, metal sculpture, painting, pottery, etc etc. Authors provide book readings, individuals from around the world provide lectures and learning opportunities, Ocean Adventures and others offer boat and kayak rentals, and there are at least six walking trails provided by various groups and individuals. There is absolutely no opportunity to come to this area and be bored.

The main floor has four bedrooms. The master suite looks out at Penobscot Bay, is furnished with a king sized bed, his and hers walk in closets, a large bathroom with a soaking tub and shower. The master suite has a large wall mounted TV.
Two bedrooms with queen sized beds share a large bathroom, and are situated on their own, private wing making the home comfortable and offering privacy. The main floor laundry room has a full-sized washer and dryer.
The fourth bedroom on the main floor has a double bed and door to the deck.

From the main floor, you descend the spiral stair to the ground floor or use the elevator. The ground floor includes a media room with a large flat screen television, a wet bar, a separate seating area for enjoying games and puzzles, and an area for ping pong, foosball and exercise. Downstairs TV has a Bluray for the DVD's provided or bring your own.

A Stone's Throw house is situated 3/4 mile from the main road on a small peninsula. Enjoy the peacefulness, the sunny yard, shooting hoops or lounging on the sun shade covered deck. BBQ outside or cook in the fully equipped kitchen. There is plenty of internet (2gigs) to make work or entertainment not a problem at all.

Located just minutes from Deer Isle village and the working water front of Stonington. Start your day at 44 North coffee shop in either Deer Isle or Stonington, then check out the fabulous shops! Watch the working water fronts activity, lobster boats leaving to go haul and returning to unload the days catch. Also, stop by Maine Center for Coastal Fisheries. They have a touch tank and virtual reality learning tools to teach you about the lobster industry. They are also the home of Ask Leroy! If you haven't seen him check him out on YouTube, he is a gem!
There are several great restaurants to choose from in Stonington, Fin and Fern, Stonecutters, 27 fathoms, the cockatoo and Burnt Cove Boil. Deer Isle has Aragosta at Goose Cove, the whales rib, LDI lobster and a take out There's a treat. Reservations are recommended during the summer season.
Around the peninsula are several fabulous restaurants as well, including Brooklin, Brooksville and Blue Hill.

Close proximity to several beaches and the lily pond where you can swim, paddle board or kayak. Bring a picnic lunch and make an afternoon of sunshine and salt air.
Island heritage trust has many hiking trails all around Deer Isle. Explore the many trails and also learn some local history while taking in some spectacular water views. The Settlement quarry and the Edgar M tennis preserve are two of my favorites!
Up the road from the Edgar M tennis preserve is Nervous Nellie's jam and jellies. A must see for everyone young and old! Stroll through the grounds and look at all the metal works. It is sure to please everyone, and will leave you wanting to come back again and again. The gift shop is packed with yummy jams and jellies. Definitely worth the trip!
If your destination is Bar Harbor and Acadia National park, it is about an hour and a half away. A great day trip! After a busy day you can return to A stone's throw house and relax, perhaps with a glass of wine, while waiting for your lobster to cook and enjoy a nice lobster dinner. You might just see a deer or two wander through the yard, listen to the loons or watch the birds and just let the evening roll on by.

Dorsey Cottage is situated on a quiet cove that is just off the popular sailing lanes of Eggemoggin Reach (a mile wide body of water separating Deer Isle from the mainland). This picturesque cove wraps around two sides of the home, and provides for more expanded views northeast looking out across the cove and out to the reach. The home is set back from Reach Road, with a large pasture fronting the home, providing for a fully tranquil setting. Simply furnished, the interior provides for a somewhat modest and relaxed atmosphere. The kitchen, living and dining area are open, light and airy, and all gaze upon the surrounding natural beauty. The home has two bedrooms, one downstairs (queen) and one up (double), each with their own bathrooms. There is also a fold down futon in the living room for added sleeping. An open deck runs along the entire back of the home, and includes patio furniture. Both the living room and downstairs bedroom have sliding glass doors leading out to the deck. There is a covered deck on the front of the home overlooking the pasture. The setting is a kids paradise for exploration, but also a serene backdrop for adults to unwind and relax. Washer, dryer, TV will have a cable or satellite connection, VCR, DVD.

The bedrooms were comfortable, with wonderful beds and pillows, and plenty of storage for your belongings. The apartment includes free parking, is close to shopping, and is close to my spouse's sister who lives on the Island, making it ideal for our family gettogether. Watching the water and tides roll in and out from the private patio was a treat. The owners were excellent at communication. They were away during our stay but had a caretaker available for anything we might need. Our visit was primarily for a family visit but we loved hiking on the Island, shopping in Stonington, and the Puffin Tour to see the bird sanctuary, seals, dolphins, and of course, multiple Puffins and other seabirds. Be sure to visit Nervous Nelli's Jams and Jellies, giving yourself an hour or more to spend. This is not only a lovely gift shop with many unique gifts, but an outdoor artfest with unusual sculptures each with a story to tell. We also liked Yellow Birch Farms for fresh produce and The Dry Dock in Stonington for gifts. As we visited on July 4th week, we got to see the small town, big-hearted parade. What fun! Highly recommend."

Welcome to our farmhouse turned part-time residence and rental, in picturesque Deer Isle in Maine, just a 5-minute walk to Deer Isle Village with 44 North Coffee open year-round, Deer Isle Library, The Periwinkle, and art galleries. With its rich history and idyllic location, our home offers a relaxing retreat for those seeking a picturesque getaway in coastal Maine on an artsy island that also hosts Haystack Mountain School of Crafts.

The farmhouse exudes a quaint and rustic charm with an enclosed porch, where a pair of rocking chairs invites you to sit back and savor the tranquil ambiance. From here, you can take in breathtaking views of the surrounding landscape, including a vibrant lupine field from late May - mid-July that adds a burst of color to the scenery during the summer months.

Important notes:
The two bedrooms and a full bathroom are up a flight of stairs. The ground floor contains a living/reading room, dining room, half bath with washer/dryer, and kitchen. There is an enclosed side porch and a backyard wildflower meadow. The harbor is across the street and Mill Pond is down the street.

Guest access:
Exclusive access to the entire house is granted to guests, excluding the barn, extension to the barn, and basement. While there's no dishwasher, a washer and dryer are conveniently available on-site.

For those who appreciate the written word, our farmhouse boasts an extensive collection of books that line the shelves. Lose yourself in the pages of literary classics or discover new authors as you curl up in a cozy nook. The property is stunning and my boys (7 and 10) couldn't get enough of playing on the rocks, watching the crabs and other critters when the tide went in and out, and enjoying the open space on the cove. Cheryl was wonderful to deal with, had great suggestions for activities in the area, and was attentive to all our needs. The perfect host! We hiked out to Barred Island, found beautiful shells on Sand Beach, kayaked to Little Sheep, took a lobster boat cruise on the Isle au Haut mailboat, and went on a harbor tour with Old Quarry. Kids got to swim at the quarry pond on Green Island--a real treat. The house itself was very clean and comfortable, with tons of great reading material and amazing views of the cove. The fire pit was set up for us when we arrived and we made good use of it, roasting smores and enjoying the beautiful evenings. We loved exploring Stonington and Deer Isle and definitely hope to return! Thank you for your hospitality!"

Sunset Sisters at The Walker House is a brand new, beautiful open concept home with three bedrooms and two full baths. The house sits on four plus acres of lawn,fields and woods. We are about and hour and a half away from the Bangor International airport and an hour away from Bar Harbor. You will share a private road with other cottages, but will have your own driveway to park in. Come enjoy nature, star gaze, or enjoy the quiet Maine has to offer.

- "Perfection! And our Hostess couldnt have been more wonderful!" - "The Chalet - We had a wonderful stay at The Chalet. It slept our family plus in laws comfortably and was an excellent home base to explore Deer Isle and Stonington. The kitchen had everything we needed to cook (minus the food). There were some puzzles and indoor/outdoor games to play with also. Having a washer/dryer made the 2 week stay much easier. There’s a walking path to the shore/dock right from the Chalet (maybe 5 min walking downhill). We loved how private and wooded the property is. Overall the house and property were even better than pictured. Just a note that the house is not insulated or heated, it does have a working fireplace though. The area - We visited almost every preserve the island had to offer and they were all great — better than great, 10 out of 10. It was enough to keep us busy for 2 weeks with a few repeats. Visiting Barred Island Preserve was top of the list and others like Shore Acres and Scott’s Landing were great because their meadow trails were easier for kids/grandparents to walk on. Sand Beach was a family favorite too, be brave and swim. The area is not well-suited for bicycles, shoulders on roads are small or non-existent. There is no “major” grocery store on Deer Isle but there are several seafood and regular food markets. The seafood was very delicious! We intended to take a drive to a larger grocery store but never did and were completely fine. We visited in mid-September and by then most places were operating with “Fall” hours, which we had to be mindful of. A few things we didn’t do but you could - take the ferry to Isle Ah Haut from Stonington, drive 1.5 hrs to Acadia National Park. We really enjoyed this trip!"

The Space

The house is perfect for a family or group of friends. It sleeps eight comfortably and each room has brand new furniture and mattresses. Each room has wonderful light. Privacy blinds and ceiling fans are installed for your comfort.

The house has been fully renovated and has a new lease on life. Many everyday amenities for each guest will make your stay comfortable and memorable.

The main floor is made up of an eat-in kitchen, dining room, living room, laundry room and half bath.

Upstairs is where you will find three bedrooms, a full bathroom and reading nook. Two bedrooms have king beds and the third room has two queens. A large full bathroom with a tub shower combo, single vanity, bright natural light and fresh towels.

Outside you will find two different spaces. A deck with everything you need to relax is found on the front of the home. Maine trees provide shade in the back of the home with a seasonal view of Mill Pond. You will also find a fire pit ready for an evening outside located at the edge of the trees.

Let's be honest. You want to know....yes the internet is awesome. It’s fast, consistent and those tiny little work details you need to finish before heading out on a hike can get done in a snap.

Guest Access

The home and property are all yours. The basement and attic are not open to guests, but everything else is. We want you to feel at home. Every guest will be given an entry code to access the home from our deck door right before their check-in date. A set of keys will be available for the double front doors once you are inside.

Other Things to Note

This home is 160 years old and we want it to keep that long run going. Please remove you shoes when in the house and preserve our floors. We do not own the piece of property between our rock fence and Mill Pond. Please respect this property and do not walk through it trying to access the pond.

The kitchen is well equipped for large family meals and their are big tables inside and out. We loved the sun room and enjoyed reading and looking out at the bay. We felt at home and Lisa was very kind and helpful when we needed suggestions. I would honestly stay here every summer. It is about an hour and a half to Acadia, with several small towns within an hour to explore with local shops. Stonington is very pretty and has several small retaurants and shops on the water. The Pines is a classic Maine cottage that combines the charm of a 90 year old home with updated, modern amenities.

The large kitchen opens up to the cathedral ceiling living and dining space. A gas fireplace in the living room keeps you warm on chilly evenings. The immaculate kitchen is only 6 years old and fully equipped with luxurious quartz countertops, all the cookware, dinnerware and gear you could want, fit for a chef.

Follow the lovely painted hardwoods upstairs and you’ll see the 2 bedrooms. The primary bedroom has a queen size bed. The guest room has a twin daybed (twin size mattress) and a twin size trundle underneath it. In this bedroom you will also find the second bathroom (half bathroom only).

The first floor has a full bathroom, with a shower (no tub), and washer & dryer.

Entertainment options are aplenty: there is a smart Roku TV in both bedrooms as well as the living room (just bring your log-on!). We have tons of books for adults and kids alike, board games, playing cards and more.

There are so many magical outdoor living spaces to enjoy a meal, glass of wine, or cup of coffee overlooking the lovely territorial view.
