Sunny Bungalow, Walk to Ferry and Town
Other
Vinalhaven, Maine, USA

Sunny in-town home built in 1850. Neighborhood is mixed, locals and summer residents. One mile to swimming quarry. One mile to Lane’s Island nature walk. Vinalhaven is a place to escape mainland life and go back in time to a simpler way of life. Slanted floors, galley kitchen with lobster pots and everything needed for cooking. Loads of interesting books and games (owners are book people). In-town, near amenities, ferry. Strict enforcement of maximum occupancy two adults with one child 12 or under. No pets. We limit adults to minimize wear and tear. If you have three adults or more, or a pet, book a larger freestanding house on the island. If you plan to do a lot of cooking or expect a modern place, this is not for you. The kitchen is small. The floors are slanted wide pine.

One bedroom upstairs has twin beds, bureau, and chaise longue; the other double bed is at the top of the stairway landing, with a small desk and lots of morning sun. There is a bathroom upstairs as well as downstairs. The downstairs one has a shower stall. Private entry, no interaction with owners needed but we are available to offer local suggestions or for other questions. The owners reside in a separate closed-off space.

Walk to town and ferry, which makes life easier during peak months if you decide to park at the Rockland ferry lot. We can pick you up at ferry if we are available. Rustic two-story 1850s farmhouse-style with wide pine (some squeaky) floors throughout, ideal for those looking for authentic Maine island charm. Old-fashioned glider out front next to rhododendron and rose bush gets morning and midday sun. So quiet with the sound of the wind and rustling leaves and seagulls.

One double bed and two comfy twin beds in separate room. Located in residential location near the Historical Society up on the hill for easy walking to Main Street restaurants, shops, and ferry. Near water, but not on water, with limited Carvers Cove views from upstairs bedrooms. Good neighborhood for walking, great harbor views from nearby Blueberry Lane scenic overlook. Walk to breathtaking Lane's Island Preserve, quarry, or rent bikes and kayaks in town at the Tidewater Inn. This is not a good choice for people who are expecting a modern "fancy" place. There are plenty of lamps, books, games and the kitchen is well-stocked including lobster pot, coffee maker, and most cooking needs. We provide bedding and towels. Orbi-boosted Wifi throughout the entire space. AT&T has cell towers on the island and is the best choice for cell service. New hot water heater and Toyostove heating unit in 2020.

Guest Reviews:

- "Great property for the price! Plenty of bedrooms and walking distance to town! Would stay again" - "This old inn is a magical stay in an amazing location, so close to Lane's Island and town. It has many, many beautiful old windows that make the house a breezy delight and offer water views that make you feel like you are floating on the water. If you are searching for a charming farmhouse-like accommodations this is the place for you - High ceilings, the large windows, slanting woods floors, three stories and 9 sweet bedrooms, a wonderful covered front porch and the most glorious glassed-in porch for dinners and games. All this charm does comes with a rustic element. The kitchen, while very roomy, has no dishwasher. Thankfully we had four kids to wash up after dinner! The bathrooms are very basic - one with just a claw foot tub (which could easily be converted to a shower) and the other with a very small camp-like shower. The washer and dryer were very helpful amenities as were the multiple refrigerators and freezers. The kayaks were an added source of fun and adventure for the kids The entire family absolutely loved our stay - soul is more important than luxury in our books! Naomi was extremely prompt in her responses to all our questions. Thank you!"

- "The most amazing property we have ever rented. Stripped down, simple and elegant with an unmatched view. Property manager Claire Jackson was a delight and could not have been more helpful. We can't wait to return" - "Great location away from town, feels like a remote cabin/camp in the woods. - "Janica was a great hostess. Left us to ourselves, but always was right there with her texts in response to anything I asked. It really was like staying at a friend's house who was elsewhere. Everything you could want was there - and she provided much appreciated, goodies for us upon arrival. The only drawback was that it isn't on the water or have a water view. On the other hand, a swimming quarry is a 5 minute walk away - and a dog quarry on the opposite side as well. I think our dogs had at least as good a time as well did. Thank you Janica!"

- "Creeds Cove is a beautiful home! This was our 5th year renting on the island and this was the best home we have stayed in by far. The home was spotless upon arrival and it had everything we needed. We had a vehicle on the island but it is just under a mile to the ferry. Beautiful views all day long and great spot to see the ferry and fishing boats go buy. Angela and Jay were great hosts and we will definitely be back!" - "Great location and very comfortable "

- "This is a stunningly beautiful property with incredible views. The kitchen and bar was fully stocked with everything you'd need to cook for a large family (there were 9 of us). We ran out of propane gas in the middle of cooking and the owner had that issue resolved within 25 minutes, on a Sunday! We really appreciated the kayaks that were made available, the incredible sound system and the fireplaces. This property is so peaceful and quiet and we'd recommend it to anyone looking for a place on Vinalhaven."

Guesthouse on Historic Saltwater Farm
House
Vinalhaven, Maine, USA

The Wooster family farmhouse was built at the head of Crockett Cove in 1843. The guest house/barn was built in 1964. It faces south with a lovely water view and summer breeze. One can hear the reversing falls at all times except high tide when you can slip over the falls and kayak in the completely conserved natural area, the largest salt marsh on the island. There you may see Bald Eagles, Osprey nests, Herons, Eiders, Guillemots, Kingfishers and other birds in this area.

You may leave kayaks or rowing shells on the shore.

There are several walking trails near by on Vinalhaven Land Trust and Town owned properties and the island of North Haven can be accessed by driving about 3 miles to the northern end of Vinalhaven and taking a boat taxi across the Thoroughfare. The small town of North Haven has several restaurants, galleries and shops, including the acclaimed Nebo Lodge which serves only locally sourced food.

Guest Reviews:

- "This is a unique guesthouse in a truly beautiful location. The kitchen is excellent, the space is airy and there are countless art books and cozy chairs. Vinalhaven is a great island town filled with year round residents who truly look out for each other. Things we liked: swimming in the quarries, kayaking, nature walks and hikes sponsored by the land trust, buying lobsters at the “gas station”, biking, shopping in a few high end shops, the farmers market (island made goat milk soap), etc. And we really liked our host, Elin, who is wonderful."
