Beautifully appointed, Spotlessly clean, cozy and wonderful beds, bedding and pillows. Fun being right on the main street and walkable to most everything. The hosts were so accommodating, wish they had places all over the world. One recommendation is a tv on the kitchen level, I like tv. But the tv area upstairs is simply wonderful, so cozy. *****
A Note from the Owner:
Welcome to The Thainy Home: Where Dreams, History, and Serenity Converge
Nestled in the heart of Midcoast Maine, The Thainy is more than just a tiny house—it's a dream manifested into reality. Picture this: in the midst of a global pandemic, a fantasy was born. A vision of owning a slice of land, crafting a cozy tiny house, and creating a sanctuary for personal and shared retreat began to form. Fast forward three years, and that fantasy has been transformed into a tangible haven. The Thainy stands as a testament to the power of imagination, hard work, and a touch of serendipity.
This isn’t just any tiny house—it’s a labor of love, a collaboration between a daughter’s dreams and a father’s craftsmanship. My dad, a master contractor with over 30 years of experience, poured his heart and soul into this project. Together, we designed a space that has not only met but exceeded our wildest expectations. Every detail, from the intricately sealed exterior panels to the cleverly designed storage solutions hidden within the stairs, showcases his unparalleled skill and dedication.
Inspired by my year spent in Thailand—a place of beauty, warmth, and unforgettable experiences—The Thainy draws its design cues from the Jim Thompson House in Bangkok. This historical home, with its blend of traditional Thai architecture and mysterious history, served as the perfect muse for this tiny house. The textiles that adorn the space come from Ock Tok Pop, a remarkable textile company in Laos that works with indigenous groups to create stunning, authentic pieces. Each element of The Thainy is a piece of a larger story, woven together with threads of history, culture, and personal connection.
But The Thainy is more than just a beautifully crafted house. It’s a place where the land tells its own story. Purchased from the estate of George Purington, this land was once a beloved family camp, complete with a pond, rock garden, and overgrown pathways leading into the woods. The Purington family’s legacy lives on, as they continue to visit and fish in the pond, just as they did in years past. In many ways, I feel like a guest on this land, just as you will during your stay.
This land also holds a deeper history, one that stretches back to a time when it was home to the Wabanaki people. As you walk through the woods, breathe in the fresh air, and take in the natural beauty, remember that we are all guests of this sacred land. Treat it with the respect it deserves, and it will reward you with peace, tranquility, and maybe even a touch of magic.
So, whether you’re here for a weekend getaway or a longer retreat, know that The Thainy is a place where dreams are realized, histories are honored, and the beauty of nature is celebrated. Welcome to your new favorite escape—relax, explore, and enjoy every moment of your stay.

Will book next year's trip as soon as we set the date. year's trip as soon as we set the date" - "The Thainey house was the perfect spot for our family. The property was wonderful and allowed for space for our 2 children and dog to run around. The house was immaculate and had all of the amenities we needed. "

Your own island! Who has not dreamed of having one? This little gem of an island can be yours for a week. Little Diamond Island is a 1/4 acre island located in Lake Cobbossee in West Gardiner Maine. Just 20 minutes from the capital city of Augusta you are close to restaurants and shopping but in a setting that is private and close to nature.
Little Diamond Island in Lake Cobbossee is a unique lake front vacation rental. Rustic 3 room cabin with lake views from every window. The lake is just steps away in any direction. Sandy bottom swimming areas and the lake is great for boating, canoeing, kayaking or jet skiing.
Island vacationing is not for everyone. If you love camping (not the same as RV'ing) you will love this. It is a lot like camping except you have a real bed to sleep in. Rustic in nature there is no electricity or running water. We do provide a composting toilet, propane stove, refrigerator and solar campers shower. Many refer to it as "glamping", glamorous camping. We provide a canoe, life vests and paddles. Its a short 5 minute paddle from the shore where you park your car. Please note we do not have a cleaning service and everyone is expected to clean before departure.
This is a peaceful spot for anyone who loves nature. Except for the occasional boat the only sounds you hear are the young osprey begging for food in the nest above the cottage and the mournful cry of the loons as they float past the island. You can see nesting osprey, pileated woodpecker and more.
- "It's not often that you get to paddle out to a little cottage on its own small island to stay for a couple days. This place was perfect for us to disconnect and relax. It was so very peaceful. We'll definitely be looking to come back here." - "The cabin is perfectly located, just a short canoe ride to total privacy. We especially enjoyed watching the 2 baby ospees with their mamma. We enjoyed the swimming off the deck and fishing from both the dock and canoe. Everything you could possibly want was provided. Looking forward to a return trip."

- "The house was amazing for us, an extended family of 3 generations from 3 to 70." - "This was our second year spending a week with our family. There is plenty of space both inside and out. The outside seating areas have beautiful flowers. We enjoyed the sounds of the loons in the morning and evening while eating meals on the deck." - "Once we got past the communication snafu around our check-in, which ended up working out okay but might not have, and which the owner pledged to resolve going forward, everything else about our stay was terrific. The home is on a beautiful piece of property with a wonderful, relaxing, lakeside setting, complete with kayaks and paddleboards. The home itself is simply furnished with everything needed, and the kitchen is well-stocked with anything a guest might need. The outdoor spaces are a big selling point. Ben, the owner, was very accessible and provided us with some good restaurant suggestions. We had a very enjoyable week!"

- "This has honestly been one of the best stays we’ve had so far! This charming little studio has clearly had a lot of love and attention to detail poured into it. It was immaculately clean, well laid out, and extremely comfortable. The space smelled fantastic, and everything we could possibly need was thoughtfully provided—even the linens smelled amazing! The property’s setting was wonderful, and we loved watching the leaves fall outside the window. We even spotted a large flock of turkeys. Highly recommended!"

This home is within walking distance to many nearby hiking and biking trails as well as just minutes away from Maine's capital of Augusta.
- "Hilltop is a lovely old house with all the mod cons. We stayed there with our two small dogs and were able to let them run around on the large deck because of the ingenius rolling gate the owner had installed. Living room seating is generous and comfortable with two couches and a large TV. The beds were comfortable with good reading lights. The house is spotlessly clean with ample supplies of paper products, shampoo, hand soap, etc. The kitchen is well stocked - especially the drawer with every spice known to man. My only complaint is that there is no walkway to the backdoor main entry so you have to walk through uneven grass to reach the steps. It's a wonderful place to stay. Hallowell is a lovely old town with excellent restaurants. "

- "This was a perfect three days! If I could have spent all my time on the deck I would have. A beautiful view, a quiet relaxing spot with great accessibility to downtown Augusta. 15 minutes away from whatever you can need!" - "Affordable and clean accommodations. View was lovely—will stay again!" - "This rental is very nice... clean and decorated with care... It was a bit tricky to see in the dark, but I managed...and could maybe use a bit more insulation to block sound from downstairs...but I'm not really complaining. It was good to have a nice place to settle after my long days out and about. I definitely appreciated the hot water kettle....just what I needed!!!"

Wonderful place to get away from hustle and bustle of life" - "Overall nice stay disappointed about not being able to fish sighs put on trees right before my stay after I paid." - "The listing stated there were upstairs tenants. Long story short, on Thanksgiving when they arrived home to me enjoying an outdoor fire, the accused me of using their firewood, I had brought my own. Then another night I left to do an activity with my kids and returned to not being able to park, due to them taking up three spaces with their truck. They were noisy every night until midnight and up every morning by 7a. In have no living family besides my kids and I was looking for a relaxing getaway. Very unimpressed!!!"

- "The setting of the home is beautiful. The two mechanisms to get into the house are dated technology. When we arrived it took us 45 minutes and three calls to your local manager to get three different codes. Once we got the Lock box Open for the key we were able to open the lock one time but we’re concerned with locking it again(which we couldn’t even do) in the event we could not unlock it again. Once inside the cabin you can lock the deadbolt. But not from the outside. You really need to upgrade your lock technology. Airbnb houses have advanced locks that only require a code and no key. You offer a great Franklin stove but no tools do use it. You should supply a shovel to empty the ash into a Ash Bucket and an ashcan outside to further deposit the ashes. You can’t have a fire with his fireplace. The bathtub is an absolute hazard and I’m certain it did not pass ADA compliance. It is totally ridiculous that it is 3 feet high and you have to use a little stepstool to climb into it. It Does not have a nonslip surface and we had to stop using it after the first day because both of us almost slipped and fell out of the tub to the floor 3 feet below. Even if you are grandfathered in you should have more respect for your tenants. You need to tear that tub out immediately. An added feature would be some type of barbecue gas preferably. The first day we were there we were able to park fairly close to the cabin but you had to walk through a grass and mud mess. The second day when we came back the place where we parked our car was barricaded off and we had to walk even further to get to the cabin. We rented this cabin for six nights and we’re fed up with the bathtub situation especially .I called to cancel the last night which you would not do. Again Poor customer service. I think you should’ve let us slide one night when considering the many .inadequacies of this cabin. I would never recommend this cabin."

- "Had a wonderful 5 day getaway at this beautiful lake home. Location was perfect because we wanted to explore Maine and have some fun. Went to Zac Brown concert in Bangor, lunch on the water in Bar Harbor, hiked in Acadia National Park and toured Bowdoin University where my friends daughter goes to college. Accommodations were great - plenty of room, everyone was happy with their bedrooms and bathrooms. Some of our best times were hanging at the house...Hot tub, fire pit, sunset on the lake shore beach, and steak and lobster night on the large back deck. The open floor plan was perfect for hanging out at night with the group...dinner, playing cards and watching sports on the large TV. I would highly recommend this home for a getaway with family or friends."
