- "My family of 6 really enjoyed our time at The Keyhole. Although the living area is a little tight for 6 the room sizes were very nice and offered area to spread out. My kids loved going down to the ocean to look in the tide pools and we were close enough to explore Acadia, especially swimming at Echo Lake. My kids loved the games and Legos. The kitchen had everything we needed and the gas grill was awesome to have. The hosts were very responsive if we had questions. I would definitely recommend this if you are looking for a more quiet place to explore Acadia."

- "The stay was fine and the host a nice enough guy. However, just to lay out some facts: - The primary picture of the shed was taken before the units 1 and 2 were hung on the outside. The unit is half of that and you share a wall with another guest where you can hear everything they say or do. - The shed is about 50 yards from the primary house and about 50 feet from another structure that is an active construction site. - In order to turn on the AC, you have to stand on an old fold out wooden chair and reach for buttons on the top which you can't actually see unless you are 6'4"+. Terrible setup."

If peace and quiet in your own home are what you desire, Cranberry View is the perfect retreat to bring the family and escape it all. Nestled by the shore of Western Way, the house offers the visitor plenty of privacy and access to the ocean's edge, surrounded by spectacular scenery. There is easy access to every activity Acadia has to offer, even free public transportation, in season, right from the end of the driveway. Easy convenience to the park, shopping, free public transportation in season, and all the other activities here on Mt Desert Island. About two hundred yards from the coastline. Delightful character with a large yard and gardens surrounding. Wander down to the water's edge, or enjoy nature from the ample yard, listening to the endless chatter among the birds and the sounds of the nearby ocean. A great place for kids and adults to explore all that Mount Desert and Acadia National Park have to offer.
- "This place is bigger than the pictures show. It was great for our family of four. You could put two more people downstairs on the pullout couch but with no window coverings downstairs it would be very bright in the morning. It was so quiet and we loved being away from the crowds and traffic at Bar Harbor. The stairs were a challenge with my bad knees, but I managed." - "This quaint little cabin was exactly what we were looking for. Quiet, not too fancy--perfect for our family trip to Acadia. I loved the detailed notebook with recommendations. You could tell that a lot of time was put into it. Overall the house had everything we needed (except a baking sheet-- we did struggle to make a frozen pizza). One thing I want to point out is that this property is further from Acadia than you think. If you just look at the map, and you don't know the area, it seems really close, but when you actually drive it, it's 40 minutes to get to the key spots in the park. We found ourselves driving way more than we expected. This was not an issue with the property, but just something to be aware of if booking to visit Acadia. This house is in a wonderful woodsy setting. I think it could be improved with better outdoor seating areas. There were a couple of metal chairs outside the door, but it feels a bit like a missed opportunity. We didn't really spend any time outdoors because it felt like there was no where to be. It would be a perfect fit for a hammock or maybe some seating around a firepit. Finally, this house does not have air condititioning. Again, it was in the listing, so not a problem with the house, but we didn't notice before booking, and it was a pretty hot week, so it caught us of guard. We were able to make do with the fans that we in the house, and one bedroom does have a window unit. Just be aware."

- "My family and I absolutely LOVED our visit and the home was AMAZING!! This was our first visit to Maine and one of the best things about our visit was this home! It is in such a quiet and beautiful area backing up to trees with a calming water feature in the front. The home was exceptionally clean and everything was just as pictured. Trips to Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park were an easy driving distance and we took full advantage of the fire pit to sit and relax and reflect on the day’s adventure. The weather was just beautiful and we had the windows open through the night to take in the fresh/cool air. We would highly recommend this property. Amy was very thorough in her communications and responded quickly to our questions. Thank you!!!"

Nestled in the woods on a small island easily accessed by ferry, our "tiny" cabin offers island serenity with all the essentials. Small in size, yet perfect for two- enjoy the porch swing or its wicker chairs for a peaceful afternoon with a book or walk your coffee to Gilley Beach and watch the sun rise, just a few hundred yards down the road. The dining table easily accommodates 4 should you want to invite your new island friends over for drinks or dinner!
The Cabin offers a full bathroom with oversize shower with paper goods, soap, and towels provided. A well-equipped kitchen offers a two-burner cooktop, fridge, microwave/convection combo, toaster, keurig coffee maker with pods, and handheld mixer along with all the pots and pans, dishes, and silverware one could need. A Weber Gas grill and single burner lobster cooker are just outside the cabin for all your favorite grilled meals. The queen bed in the loft is accessed by a spiral staircase. A queen sleeper is also available on the main floor for those that prefer to avoid stairs. Modern conveniences such as quality high speed wifi, a smart tv with your favorite apps, heat and AC blend with aged driftwood accents and birch sapling railings to create a calm, cozy, yet very comfortable place to retreat to while still feeling connected to the world at large on whatever level you choose.
The cabin is near the main house making us easily accessible for all questions about island life, lobstering, off-island adventures (such as Acadia National Park and Bar Harbor), and what it's like to winter in Maine yet still provides all the privacy you would want. Paul loves to offer a free pair of lobsters to all our guests, fresh off his lobster boat in order to fully immerse in the Maine island experience. It's a 10-12 minute walk (or 5 minute bike ride) to the Town Dock where the ferry lands and departs every two hours in the summer- providing easy access to Acadia and its truly infamous Rockefeller carriage roads and trails- but please know we always greet our guests at the dock upon arrival to transport luggage and groceries and provide a warm welcome to the island. On the mainland the Island Explorer FREE bus service departs from the ferry pier regularly to allow all visitors full access to Acadia without the hassle of looking for parking. We do, however, offer a free, designated parking spot on the mainland, adjacent to the ferry pier, for the duration of our guest's stay. The short, very scenic ferry ride amongst the Cranberry Isles on the passenger "mailboat" is considered by many to be one of the more memorable highlights of any visit to our island.
The island is home to a locally-renowned hot spot, The Islesford Dock Restaurant. Also on Islesford are Islesford Pottery, several art galleries, several museums, and a gift shop. A library and post office are just a 5-7 min walk. Further, a summer night ferry (several nights to 6 nights a week depending upon the month) offers easy access to the bustle of Bar Harbor and the carriage roads of Acadia National Park while at the same time allowing the quiet ocean waves to lull you to sleep once you return.
- "We had an amazing time staying at this tiny cabin! Very clean, well stocked, and everything you could possibly need. We left the island everyday in the ferry to explore Acadia and other nearby areas and then spent mornings and evenings on Little Cranberry Island. AC works wonderful for the hot muggy days. The morning treats that Joanne made every morning were always a yummy treat! Super nice and responsive hosts, would definitely stay again if in the area!! It is a little piece of Paradise to stay here!! The only suggestion that would make it over the top, is bikes to use while staying on the island!"

- "The cottage was clean and well appointed. The beds were comfortable, We really enjoyed and made good use of the fire pit. It was all set up and ready to light. Southwest Harbor is my favorite place to stay on the island. It is much less touristy than Bar Harbor but still has some good dining options as well as a nice coffee shop. We had a great stay." - "Upon checking in, my partner started to have a bad reaction to all of the fresh exposed wood in the house. Neither of us were aware she had this sensitivity. It did not affect me at all. Amanda came to the rescue and was able to transfer us to another property right on the ocean in the heart of Bar Harbor, essentially saving our vacation. I will just say that the new property was so nice, it was a step down when we finally returned home after the vacation. Amanda rocks!!!"

Many peoplechoose tostay in Southwest Harbor during their visit to Acadia National Park for its convenient location and more relaxed pace.Southwest Harbor is situated just west of the southern entrance to Somes Sound on Mount Desert Island. It is the largest municipality on the island's southwestern "quiet side." The town is a hub of activity, with various great restaurants, shops, galleries, and eateries worth exploring. Some of these include the charming Little Notch Bakery, the renowned Red Sky, the local favorite Peter Trouts, The Cygnet Gallery, Cornerstone Gallery, Beals Lobster, Sawyers, Cafe Dry Dock, Tom Cat Tide, The Store, Southwest Cycle, and many more! Many come to Mount Desert Island to visit Acadia National Park and enjoy its beauty. You can get a yearly pass to the park or pay as you go. Our suggestion is to get the yearly that you can visit other national parks. Some of our favorite trails, which are mostly easy and dog friendly, are Asticou and Jordan Pond Path, Little Harbor Brook Trail, Carriage Trail Loop, Wonderland, Ship Harbor Trail, Echo Lake Trail, and many more. Our suggestion is to download the All Trails App and search for your skill level. Other exciting things to do is to go on a whale watching tour, ride the ferries to neighboring islands like Cranberry or Little Cranberry and explore those. Visit the bustling town of Bar Harbor and the smaller villages around the island. You can do all this by car or use the Island Explorer buss.
We are 2.8 miles to what is considered Southwest Harbor’s downtown and 4 miles into Bass Harbor. Peter Trout’s and the docks are 1.6 miles from us. We are on the Southwest Harbor side of the Seawall. Shore access is at 2-98 Cable Crossing RD because the shore line at the house is a drop off and can be dangerous but you can still enjoy picturesque views at the house. We walk to all of these locations all the time!

The kids were able to play kickball in the backyard while the adults relaxed on the back deck overlooking the water. Picture perfect!" - "Hard Aground was the perfect place for our family - 3 adult kids and parents. The house had been thoughtfully renovated, and the furnishings gave it a great vacation vibe. Robin was so helpful and attentive when we had questions! For our previous 7-8 trips to Acadia, we stayed closer to Bar Harbor, so it was a fun adventure to visit another part of the island Running to (and on) the Wonderland trail was a highlight for me, as was skipping rocks at the pond near Seawall. Southwest Harbor has some nice restaurants (Rogue!!) and shops, which made is a fun place to visit on a rainy day. There are also some nice trails on that side of the island. "

Experience living tiny in this lovingly built small scale space that includes everything you need for a cozy getaway. Return from a day of hiking in Acadia National Park to soak in the clawfoot tub or relax on the tiny deck, with a glimpse of the ocean.
This 20ft x 8ft tiny home is situated in a backyard, a short walk from Manset Town Dock and Peter Trout Tavern, and a five-minute drive from Southwest Harbor and parts of Acadia National Park (about 20 min to longer hikes and the loop road).
The space
This 130sq.ft. house features a furnished kitchen/living room area with a two-burner gas stove for cooking. The sleeping loft with skylight is accessible via ladder. The luxurious (by tiny house scale) bathroom contains an antique clawfoot tub for soaking and on-demand hot water. Outside is a fire pit, and tiny deck. There is also a shared backyard and garden area.
Other things to note
Staying in a tiny house is somewhere in between camping and a room in a bed and breakfast. There is regular plumbing, hot water, and a gas stove. But, since the space is tight, some things are out of the ordinary. For this reason, we ask that you THOROUGHLY read and understand the following details.
___ The bed is located in a loft, which is accessible ONLY by ladder. Please see pictures and be sure you are comfortable climbing up to the bed.
___ There is no bathroom sink. You can use the tub faucet or the kitchen sink in its place.
___ The tiny house is located in the backyard of our home. You will have your own space, and we will stay out of your way as much as possible, but we do live on the property and share the driveway.
___ We allow adult dogs with prior approval. Absolutely no puppies, sorry. That means dogs 0-12 months are not allowed. (We love them, but we’ve had too many bad experiences)
___ We have a friendly 4-year-old Plot Hound named Lou. She's a gentle sweetheart but may bark before she meets you. She’s usually great with other dogs and would love to meet and play with yours.
___ During the spring (before mid-June) and fall (after mid-September) the tiny house can be chilly in the night and early morning. We have plenty of extra blankets and a space heater. An electric heater is located in the bathroom.
- "My husband and I were blown away by our experience. The home was incredibly well-done, functional, clean, and cozy! It had everything you could need and did not feel cramped. We especially loved the loft bed, stereo, indoor and outdoor fire pit. Keri was flexible with our timing and a helpful and gracious host! We are looking forward to coming back here in the future."
