- "Enjoyed the little cabin in basically the middle of nowhere. The perfect spot to get away. We even cooked nearly all our meals there, which we almost never do! And I baked a cake for my husband's birthday. The kitchen was very well-stocked. The beds were comfortable and the water got nice and hot for our showers. Plus my toddler son loved all the cows out grazing everyday. We hope to be back again!" - "Property just as advertised. Clean, peaceful, and very helpful and responsive owners."

The Nuthouse Cottage, located on 48 acres of farmland with a recreational pond, is a three story home with a well-appointed and convenient kitchen. The comfy living room has a gas fireplace and opens onto porches with rockers and tables, a gas grill, a vined pergola with a chiminea, and perennial gardens.
On the second floor are two bedrooms with queen beds and a shared bath with a spacious walk-in tiled shower. The master bedroom features a gas-burning fireplace while the second bedroom has a spiral staircase up to the Crow’s Nest. This nice perch has a 360-degree view and is perfect for curling up on the window seats to read and nap. Little ones love sleeping up in the stars.
Walks through the adjacent hardwood sanctuary with an understory of ferns and mountain laurel always reveal natural surprises. Birds and wildlife abound. Down at Reflection Pond, stocked with bream and bass, the fishing is easy. Sit in the boathouse out of the sun, or fish from the dock. Enjoy a meal under the picnic shelter where there's a charcoal grill and an open fire pit for roasting hot dogs and S'mores. Dogs and children have lots of running room. Two kayaks, tubes, and a floating dock are available so you can get out on the water.
The land is beautiful and promising at all times of the year. In May and June, the gardens are blooming and in July, blueberries are ripe for the picking. By August, fields are colored with wild-flowers and butterflies. Come late September into October while the leaves are at peak color, the Virginia Beauty apples ripen and are ready to harvest. And then, even in winter, with or without snow, there is a stark leafless beauty. In any season, the night sky, away from city lights, is perfect for stargazing.
The New River is just 10 minutes away and kayaking / tubing the river is a favorite activity. Helton Creek for trout fishing is just 5 minutes down the road. Grayson Highlands and Mount Rogers are nearby hiking favorites and White top, start of the Creeper Trail for biking, is a 25 minute drive.
The cottage has a smart TV, a DVD player, and free WiFi (40 Mbps download). Other amenities include W/D, dishwasher, gas cooktop, convection oven, and microwave. The kitchen is stocked for serious cooking. Chimenea wood is available year round.
- "Absolutely a magnificent place in every way! The pictures on the website are great but the actual place is beyond beautiful. If you want true peace and quiet in a beautiful well kept and cared for home with everything you need along with very attentive hosts, this would be the place to go. We are already planning our next visit to The Nuthouse!" - "Our stay at the Nuthouse was absolutely perfect. The cottage is very comfortable and clean.. with a well appointed kitchen, porches on front and back to enjoy the sweet smell of fresh mountain air, gazebo with chiminea for evening wine sipping, private walking trails with pristine nature all around. The beds are super comfortable with high end sheets so sleeping with the windows open is that much better. The owners have thought of everything to keep your family delighted in this enchanting cottage. If you can find an opening, I recommend booking it! Oh..did I mention the fireflies at night…..can’t wait to return."

This beautifully decorated log cabin is located on a rural mountaintop and surrounded by forests, laurel thickets, and many varieties of wildlife. Enjoy many outdoors activities such as hiking the Appalachian Trail, exploring the wild horse colonies of Grayson Highlands State Park (called the 'sweetest miles of the AT [Appalachian Trail]' by Backpacker Magazine, August 2007), or taking a drive along the Blue Ridge Parkway. There are stocked trout streams and many historical places in the surrounding areas to explore.
The kitchen is well equipped and all linens are provided. Relax on the big wrap around porches as dusk falls or as the sun rises over the crest and enjoy nature at its finest as the turkeys fly over the ridge, or the deer emerge from their resting places in the laurels. Don't forget your camera!
All automobile drivers are encouraged to use a low gear and a steady moderate pace to approach the cabin. The driveway for this cabin is gravel, fairly straight, and has about a 30 degree incline. There is also a water break two thirds of the way up the hill. We encourage motorcycle riders to seriously consider this before booking this cabin.

- "We like to visit Grayson Highlands State Park to pick blueberries at this time of year, and while we are at it, we enjoy escaping the sweltering heat and humidity of piedmont NC. The Gray Cabin was comfortable and convenient. I liked to hear and see Big Wilson Creek too. We don't need fancy, but we surely liked the nicely furnished and equipped Gray Cabin. Being close to Grayson Highlands State Park was important to us, because we like to pick blueberries there every year at this time, and getting out of the sweltering heat and humidity of the NC Piedmont is much appreciated."

- "Beautiful farmhouse. Quiet location. Wonderful hosts." - "My wife and I spent a wonderful week on the farm in September. The house was very clean and was exactly what we were hoping for. It was very peaceful and was what we needed to relax and enjoy life. The internet was very good and we were able to watch all of our favorites through Roku. We are hoping to visit again next year." - "My sister and I stayed for a weekend at Kate's Memories with a plan to visit Grayson Highlands State Park to hike and see the ponies. The cottage is simple, but clean and equipped with everything we needed. As mentioned in a prior review, this is a rural setting and the grocery store isn't right around the corner--so we packed food, beverages and snacks. We arrived during daylight, which I recommend--easier to see road signs etc. We walked the lane, visited the resident horse and donkey and made a lovely bonfire Friday night--us and smores and the bullfrogs in the pond. Saturday we went to Grayson Highlands and spent a full day there. We were quite tired by the time we got home so we cooked dinner in and enjoyed another bonfire. So peaceful and relaxing. We departed on Sunday--having made some great memories. If you are looking for a quiet getaway--close to great parks, trails and the New River--check out Kate's Memories! Tina, the owner responded quickly when we had a question and was friendly and helpful. Thanks for a great stay!"

Situated in a quiet mountain top, centrally located , this ‘cool grandparents’ cottage is simple, clean, comfortable, vintage, cozy and budget friendly for couples. Nothing fancy, nothing posh. This 82 year old well-loved home has had only one owner and though greatly cared for, shows its age in some places. Expect to find some loving wear, quaint aging and charming patina both inside and outside.
The mountain & country climate is excellent for cool days and evenings from spring to fall; as such, we do have fall, winter and spring storms that may bring unusually high amounts of rain or snow to the area, which may cause high humidity and conditions that accompany humid areas and as such, may bring out wildlife such as ladybugs and such small non threatening wild life. Once again this house was built in 1940, in a mountainous and wooded area, with all of the conditions that may arise as a result. If one is particularly sensitive to the “old house smell“, or to close encounters of wildlife this is not the house for you.

- "Loved the house, very clean. Picture make it look closer to the water than actual is, we were a little bummed about that but all else was a great trip. Used River Girls for kayak rental first day, great place but 45 mins from house, only used them for the discount with renting this house. The next day we use New River Outfitters which is only 15 mins away, great experience with both rentals. Wish they had a table on the porch to do outdoor meals, but we made it work with ball chairs that we brought from home. Beds are very comfortable, both cabins were very clean and had great amenities and very well stocked for a rental. We did have one problem with the smoke detector going off randomly, but it was going out, so we just unplugged and all was good. Staff with company was quick to return call and answered all our questions. Would definitely use High Mountain Realty again to rent."
