- "We were very impressed on how clean this place was. It was well supplied with cooking items, towels, linens, and anything else you would need. Originally, my GPS took us to the wrong rental and when I called the rental company, the lady who assisted us was very nice and got us to the correct address. The only thing I would mention is the staircase going down stairs needs to have grip tape or equivalent applied because my son in law slipped on the stairs. They stairs are very slippery especially when wearing socks. This will not hinder us from returning, and we are already looking at dates for next year. "

Our property is gently nestled up against the mountains of Mount Rogers National Recreation Area. Located only 2 miles from Grayson Highlands State Park main entrance, we also have a trail leading into it the park behind the cabin at the far back of the property following the creek. A pass to gain free entry into the park for one vehicle is provided with your stay.

Enjoy the great outdoors, fish the stocked river running through the property, bike the Creeper Trail, hike Mount Rogers, kayak the New River, or drive up to Mt Rogers for some sightseeing.

King of the Mountain

You'll feel like the master of all you survey in this large and lovely rental home. Bring the whole family and enjoy the privacy and wide-open spaces of your mountain top. You'll have views for miles from your wide, covered wrap-around porch, as the pastureland stretches into mountainside, both near and distant. This is the place to relax or entertain, sipping a beverage, reading, chatting, or dining al fresco, while soaking in the serenity of the setting. The view is also stunning from the stone patio, where you'll gather 'round the full-size wood-burning fireplace and feel all the stress of the city melt away. It's so peaceful you'll likely be inspired to take a nap on the porch hammock during your stay.

On the main level of this spacious cabin, you'll find the kitchen, dining and great room, as well as two bedrooms and a quaint enclosed sunroom with a twin bed. The master bedroom has a queen-sized bed and a private bathroom with a walk-in shower. The second bedroom also has a queen bed and the shared main-level bathroom has a tub-shower combination.

There's dining for four on the porch as well as a formal dining table inside, accommodating six. You'll love the view from the dining room, with the large bay window. The kitchen also looks straight through to the dining room and view. This well-equipped kitchen includes an island and plenty of space, with conveniences like a dishwasher, coffee-maker and microwave.

After an active day of mountain adventure you'll enjoy coming home and relaxing in front of the big great-room fireplace, with a crackling wood-burning fire warming your soul as well as your body. There's plenty of comfortable seating here and a TV for entertainment.

Downstairs you'll find two additional bedrooms, one with a queen and a huge bedroom that includes another queen plus two twin beds. These bedrooms share a full bath with a bathtub-shower combo. There's also a washer and dryer for your convenience. This home has it all!

Location, Location, Location

The Sunrise Cabin is located in the northern part of Ashe County, near the Virginia border. Here you're close to Shatley Springs, Mouth of Wilson and the Grayson Highlands State Park. This lovely park is famous for its wild ponies. Come in the spring and you might see the foals. You'll also enjoy fabulous hiking, a replica of an old-time mountain settlement, an exhibit of the area's history, and unbelievable views.

From Sunrise Cabin, downtown West Jefferson is less than 25 minutes away. Visitors to this historic town love the shops, galleries, farmer's market and restaurants, as well as the famous Ashe County Cheese. Craft beer is brewed in town at Boondocks and the New River Brewery, and fine dining is available at Craft Bistro. This is small-town Americana at its finest. Only 10 minutes outside of town you'll find Mountain Aire Golf, a gorgeous public course offering 18 holes of beautifully-maintained fairways, with amazing scenery and reasonable prices.

The peaceful New River is another major attraction in Ashe County, offering water adventures such as kayaking, canoeing, tubing, fishing and swimming. Riverside Canoe Outfitters, situated about 15 minutes from your rental, will set you up with equipment and instruction. Other High Country recreation opportunities include hunting, zip-lining, cave exploration and mining for gems. Don't forget to take a drive along the Blue Ridge Parkway, America's most beautiful road, with some of the country's most awe-inspiring views and photo opps.

Wild Horse Lodge is a cozy 2 story cabin with plenty of space for whole family

The cabin was built in the 1940s and has been recently renovated. It features 3 queen beds, 2 twin beds, and a couch, a full kitchen and bathroom. There is a large front porch to relax at, charcoal grill, and firepit. Relax to the sounds of the Creek that runs in front and behind the Cabin.

The entire 5 acre property behind the cabin has Highspeed Wireless internet, perfect if you're looking to work remotely.

Highlands Hideaways has direct access to Grayson Highlands State park via the trailhead across the river, following Wilson creek you will see cascading waterfalls less than half a mile up the trail.

While there are no animals that live at the property, we can not control the wild animals that wander the property. This is a mountain cabin and there are various wild animals that wander by.

- "I stayed here for several days to fish for wild trout in Grayson Highlands State Park and Mt. Rogers wilderness areas. Wild Horse Lodge looks like it was just renovated. Everything was new and clean. The house is comfortable, decently equipped, and suitable for families, including ones with teens that cannot be seperated from electronics. It is fully "wired" with good wifi, Fire TVs, and multiple game consoles, and yes, there is actually a video game arcade in another building, where I fetched some firewood. On the opposite end of the spectrum, there is joy for the nature lover, too. A fine trout stream runs right through the property. The place is minutes from spectacular parks with miles of trails, including Grayson Highlands and Mt. Rogers. There is a lovely big fire ring out the back door with nice benches. So far from any town, the stars at night were breathtaking. A very easy and relaxing stay. I didn't need a thing. I would really like to keep this place a secret, but that wouldn't be fair."

“Over the River and Through the Woods” is a two for one rental, one named “Over the River” and the other cabin is named “Through the Woods”. There are 2 separate tiny homes next to each other joined by a wooden walkway. Each home has a queen bedroom, full bathroom, kitchen, gas fireplace, covered deck and rocking chairs. Perfect for 2 couples that want to vacation with each other but yet have their own privacy. Both homes sleeps 1-4 guests with their furry family member. Bed and bath linens are provided.

If you’re looking for a small getaway with privacy, seclusion, river access and to escape the hustle and bustle of every day life, this is it!

Well behaved dogs are welcome with a $100 pet fee per pet and must be approved by management. There is a 2 dog limit. We also require our guests to clean up after their pets “business” to avoid additional cleaning fees and pets are not allowed on the furniture.

Located in northern Ashe County, Crumpler, NC, which is approximately 30 minutes north of West Jefferson and Boone is approximately an hour southwest from our cabins. Our homes offers privacy and seclusion overlooking the river through the woods with river access. Just a walk or very short drive to the river where you will have access to enter and exit on the North Fork of the New River. Riverside Canoe and Tube Rentals is approximately a short 10 minute drive (3.5 miles) along with the New River State Park King’s Creek Access.

Each cabin is stocked the same with a full kitchen, which has a regular coffee maker, microwave, oven and fridge. However, there is NOT a dishwasher nor washer and dryer at either cabin. The living room has a gas fireplace (seasonal), 32” Roku TV, and a futon for seating. Each cabin has a queen bed and full bathroom with tub/shower combo. There are rocking chairs under the covered deck at each home. There is a wall unit in the living room with heat and AC along with a ceiling fan in each home.

Enjoy spending time around our wood burning fire pit (wood not provided). You’ll love the taste of your steaks and burgers on our charcoal grill, too! After spending time with us, you’ll not want to leave!

--Our cabins are accessed by a steep graveled driveway. We recommend front wheel drive vehicles. Not motorcycle friendly. Tire chains and 4WD/AWD may be necessary during the winter months.
--The owners may use outdoor surveillance cameras to ensure that their home remains safe. No cameras monitor the inside rooms of the home.
--There is no land-line phone in our cabins. Cell phone coverage is not guaranteed. The home does have WIFI so you may be able to call using WIFI calling.

As you plan your trip to the mountains, please remember we do get rain, snow, and some foggy days with occasional inconveniences which are out of our control. Winter weather in the Blue Ridge Mountains can occur from November through April. The majority of our homes are accessed by mountain roads, which will be icy in winter weather. For the safety of you and your party, please be prepared to drive in snow and ice. This means 4-wheel drive, good tires, and chains. It is YOUR responsibility to be prepared for hazardous road conditions. There will be NO refunds, allowances, or date changes resulting from your negligence in this matter.

- "Loved the house, very clean. Picture make it look closer to the water than actual is, we were a little bummed about that but all else was a great trip. Used River Girls for kayak rental first day, great place but 45 mins from house, only used them for the discount with renting this house. The next day we use New River Outfitters which is only 15 mins away, great experience with both rentals. Wish they had a table on the porch to do outdoor meals, but we made it work with ball chairs that we brought from home. Beds are very comfortable, both cabins were very clean and had great amenities and very well stocked for a rental. We live on the farm, at the bottom of the hill. We are here for your needs but let you enjoy your stay as your own getaway

There is another rental cabin that shares your drive. It is located on past your cabin (about a football field length away). Your cabin and theirs are very private from each other however you may distantly hear or see the other clients on occasion.

In winter months AWD or 4wd is recommended

We have a 2 night minimum for Friday checking to keep the weekend nights together

DO NOT enter the pastures/fields below and beside the cabin. These have electric fencing for livestock (sometimes livestock is in the field and sometimes not). Do not let children or pets into the fields either.

If you wish to go for a walk you may go slightly downhill then at the driveway Y - go RIGHT along the outside of the fenceline - you can follow all the fencelines on the outside of the pastures. From there you can also access other foot trails through our woods. You are staying at Rugby Creek! Ridge Top Trailwalk is open to your use! Please keep pets on a leash at all times! you are welcome to walk in the woods and follow any trails there - even down to the farm where you can walk around any gravel areas and visit our farm animals (electric fencing but gates are a good place to visit with the animals but DONT open any gates or enter any fields please).

*Please note that "Grayson Cabins" is not for our guests and is another property adjoining ours * The Forest Ridge and Woodland belong to Grayson Cabins, on up the gravel drive from your spot. So please just be considerate of those guests with no loud music etc and observe Quiet time from 10pm - 7am.

To help us keep costs and fees down please be mindful of leaving on excessive lights on when you are gone from the rental.

We stay in 3 or 4 rentals a year and I will say that this was the most relaxing and best valued rental I have experienced ever. If you want to be busy you can go to a few nearby state parks, go antiquiing, eat at some great restaurants or you can just park the car and enjoy the surrounding mountains, farm animals and wildlife, its your choice. The home and property are clean and well kept. A couple of minuses is lack of wi-fi and TV service. Getting to this place is challenging if you are uncomfortable with country roads. The main roads coming from any direction are two lanes and curvy. the last road is unpaved and one lane.The final approach is a steep farm road.. An all wheel drive is recommended The good news is that there is very little traffic.I grew up in this area so I am OK with country roads. - "We loved staying here. The home was very clean, spacious, and very well stocked with everything we needed for a great stay. The area of Grassy Creek was quiet and serene but still not too far from great shopping and restaurants in West Jefferson. We traveled to the area specifically to find the perfect Christmas tree and there were several great choose and cut tree farms in the area. We were also lucky enough to get some snow while we were there which was so beautiful. We'll definitely be back!"

This newly built Mountain Top Cabin/Chalet is set right on the side of the hill with one of the most fantastic views of the Appalachians in all directions! You can see directly up to the rocky top at Massie Gap and most of the view you take in is Grayson Highlands! This cabin has been designed with an open clean crisp feel while keeping your cozy cabin comfort at the same time! Lots of windows and views from nearly every room you just can't beat this location! NO pet fees!

This cabin boasts local Ambrosia Maple interior wood that is amazingly beautiful. The upstairs is the showplace with hand crafted touches and highlighting live edge walnut slabs! Enjoy all the cabin has to offer from your conveniences, to peaceful relaxation on the porch…bring your pets to romp in the fully fenced yard. Spark those flames with your significant other, share with your friends or family for a together vacation. On the grass yard beside the cabin is a firepit and zero-gravity lounging chairs to enjoy s'mores and the phenomenal star gazing (very low light pollution). We also have overnight horse stalls and paddocks if you want to bring your own horse and ride the Highland trails!

Upstairs has a king bedroom that is open with the living room where you can enjoy the warmth of gas logs in winter and cool mountain breezes in summer, (also has mini split ac/heat unit upstairs) all while taking in the panoramic views! The living area flows into the custom kitchen featured a live edge walnut slab bar and countertops complete with dishwasher coffee pot, keurig and gas stove/oven etc. step out onto the porch to whip up some delicious food on the gas grill , while still taking in the fabulous views! Relax in the full bathroom with walnut live edge slab countertops complete with a shower/tub.

Downstairs there is a full kitchen and King/Queen bedrooms, separate toilet space and shower room. There is a patio area out front that has a table/chairs and 2 person swing to soak up the views while sipping your morning coffee or just relaxing with a book. *no AC at this time just mountain breezes

Welcome to Narnia! This beautiful mountain cabin is ready for you and your family to relax and enjoy the view of rolling hills and mountains as far as the eye can see.

Enjoy the fireplace in the cozy living room or swing on the porch while watching deer graze in the distance.

This home is located on a beautiful piece of land in Southwestern Virginia. The bedrooms are both on the east side of the home where you can watch the sunrise.

Fully renovated cabin nestled in the Appalachian Mountains and 1 mile from Grayson Highlands State Park, and 15 minutes from Virginia Creeper Trailhead. Being located in the Mt Rogers Recreation Area gives opportunities for hiking, biking, fishing, and horseback riding. Tubing or Kayaking can be enjoyed on the nearby New River. It's secluded and peaceful. Brand new furniture and appliances. Come to enjoy the outdoors or merely sit by a night fire and watch the clear skies and stars above.

The space
Tommy's Bearwatch is a 2 bedroom, 1 bath, cabin. The master bathroom has a queen bed and French doors with a view. The 2nd bedroom has a full/twin bunk bed. The living room couch can sleep an additional person as needed. A pack and play can be available for those who need it. WIFI TV provides the ability to watch streaming services such as HULU, Netfli, Disney+, and more. Plenty of outdoor space to roam, and a large deck to sit and enjoy the country air.

Because of allergies we are unable to accept pets on the property.

Grayson Highlands State Park is 1 mile away and has amazing hikes and views. Waterfalls and Wild Ponies can be found here along with the Appalachian Trail that runs through the park.

Virginia Creeper Trailhead is 15 minutes away. Several bike rentals in the area can help you enjoy this highly recommended 17 mile trek with ice cream stops along the way.

The New River is 20 minutes away (depending on which section you want to enjoy) and can be tubed or canoed/kayaked, or even just to fish at for the day.

Hungry Mother State Park in Marion, VA is an hour drive. Lots of things to do here at this lake from a sandy beach, to fishing, to non-motorized water sports, and more hikes.

Abingdon, VA is 50 minutes away and home to the Barter Theatre and a handful of delicious restaurants.

West Jefferson, NC is a 35 minute drive and has the extremely popular Ashe County Cheese. Don't return home without some.

Relax Refresh and Renew in this peaceful private little board and batten cabin called “Wind Kist”. We are conveniently located only 4 miles to Grayson Highlands State Park! Enjoy star gazing and sunrises from your back deck overlooking our rescue farm…the pasture that connects to the cabin yard is the retirement home of the famous wild pony stallion Fabio! Enjoy farm fresh eggs, watching the goats play and bring your Pet to the fenced yard!

The space
Situated on the top of a small hillside overlooking our horse farm and animal rescue, is our cute little board and batten cabin, Wind Kist.

Its the perfect spot for some R&R. Grill on the back porch gas grill or enjoy the evenings in the back yard swing while listening to the nearby pond nightsounds and gazing at the stars. Enjoy watching the little hens and mini goats in the attached paddock (next to the cabin's fenced yard), even gather your own farm-fresh eggs for your morning bfast! Take in the sunrise from the back deck with your coffee and enjoy watching the formerly wild ponies play in the pasture below the cabin (retirement home to the famous "Fabio" of Grayson Highlands).

Inside you will find the living room to be very comfortable with a real woodstove for cold wintry nights. Or relax on the double power sofa with full recline. Smart TV also has DISH for all your entertainment needs. There is high speed fiber Wifi for your use as well.

The master bedroom boasts a king 4-poster bed with newer raiseable sleep number bed for a great nights sleep and awaken to the long range mountain view out your big picture window!

The full bathroom is small but efficient and the tub/shower combo has a luxury rainfall showerhead.

The kitchen is small but well stocked with main essential items plateware, pots and pans. It has a gas stove/oven, microwave, coffee maker and dishwasher and full size fridge. The quaint dining area has a small 2 person table and chairs where you can take in the long-range views out the window.

Just sit back and enjoy the cabin or take a tour of the rescue farm or enjoy a stroll along the wood trails throughout the property. Or if you want to adventue into the area there are cute small mountain towns, shops, restaurants nearby. Tubing, Canoeing, Hiking, Horseback Riding, Rock Climbing, Biking etc all in a very close proximity.

Whatever makes your getaway truly the vacation you needed let us be there to help you have the most enjoyable time possible.

Other things to note
There are 2 little chickens (no noisy rooster, just hens), 2 miniature goats and a few mini horses/ponies that surround the cabin back deck/yard so you will hear them on occasion. We also run a full farm and animal rescue on the lower farm property so at times you may hear tractors or diesel trucks or the sweet donkey lol.
