We have updated the cabin in 2021. This historic hand-hewn Log Studio Cabin Rental nestled in a 5 acre organic cherry orchard with outstanding Flathead Lake views. Fully restored with antique furnishings. The cabin is located 15 miles south of Bigfork. The cabin is not located on the water, but lake access is conveniently located about 1/2 mile away at the beautiful Yellow Bay State Park. Designed for 2 people, this 400 square foot log cabin rental has a queen log bed.

The great Covered Porch has rustic log posts that frame the incredible Flathead Lake and Wild Horse Island views. It is a short drive to the Yellow Bay State Park, public beach and boat ramp. Peaceful and private in the Flathead Valley of Northwest Montana.

Built in 1932, this log cabin was hand hewn from trees taken to clear the surrounding cherry orchards. Built as a homesteader's cabin when the east lake shore was a very remote location with few families living at Yellow Bay, and the only access was via a 2-track dirt road.

The cabin has been completely restored, creating a warm cozy retreat with the charm of a by-gone era. Retaining the original logs, floors, windows and aged patina were very important, while adding all the modern amenities one would expect.

The cabin has a queen size log bed, couch (not pullout) and wood stove. Fully equipped kitchen & bath, and a covered porch with gas barbecue overlooking Flathead Lake. There is no tv or phone, which suits most guests just fine. We now have high speed STARLINK WIFI, and cell service is available.

One bedroom log cabin on the beautiful shores of Flathead Lake. In a remote location yet only 5 miles from downtown Polson. The property has panoramic views of Flathead Lake the Mission Mountains and farm land. You will enjoy the quiet atmosphere with excellent opportunities to view wildlife. This truly unique property is shared with homeowners occupying the upper level and is impeccably decorated in European lodge style. Of course, a visit to Northwest Montana wouldn't be complete without immersing yourself in the stunning natural beauty of the outdoors. When you decide to explore the broader region, you'll find that the location is convenient for just about anything you might want to do. Shopping, dining, boat rentals and entertainment are all just a few minutes away in Polson, or you can also head north to explore the equally charming resort towns of Bigfork and Whitefish, or the broader amenities offered in Kalispell. West Glacier and the entrance to Glacier National Park are just 70 miles north of the residence, while Missoula is located 70 miles to the south. But there's really no requirement to drive anywhere to experience the beauty of our area. If you just step outside the residence, you'll find an expansive, multi-tiered deck with a propane grill, a propane fire table, and extensive views of Flathead Lake and the pristine wetlands which mark its southeastern shore. Situated between the deck and the lake you'll also discover our newly planted gardens which begin just north of the residence. As our guests, you are very welcome to explore the gardens, which we have resolved to keep free from herbicides and pesticides. However, our decision to avoid any non-organic chemicals requires that we spend a significant amount of time working in the gardens, so don't be surprised to see us out there planting and pruning in the spring, weeding and watering in the heat of summer, and then harvesting in the fall. The land below the deck also features approximately 460 feet of natural wetland frontage on the southeast tip of Flathead Lake, but although this frontage is very scenic and provides exceptional wildlife habitat, it is not useful for swimming or launching a boat.

The property as a whole is fairly famous in the local community. The southern half of the 6,000+ sq ft building consists of the private VRBO residence where you'll be staying, while the northern half of the building was previously operated as a local bar and restaurant known as "The Lake House". There is a separate one-bedroom apartment located on the lower level below this former bar/restaurant where we, the owners, will stay at times depending on our planting, pruning, mowing, weeding, watering and harvesting workload during the spring, summer, and fall, and depending on the weather during the winter, when commuting an extra 30 miles round trip to our family home north of Yellow Bay can be treacherous on icy roads.

Upstairs features vaulted ceilings with timber beams. Main livingroom, kitchen and dining for 4 are upstairs as well as the bathroom/shower. The balcony overlooks a small pond and fish hatchery that houses Westslope Cutthroat trout during spawning season. Upstairs bedroom has a king size bed with vanity sink and large closet.

Bedroom on lower level has a queen size bed, full size couch and television. There is also a cozy reading nook on the lower level as well as a washer and dryer.

Accommodations are on 160 acres of private land with a creek and walking trails just outside the door. Surrounding area is tribal wilderness.

We live in the main house 1/8 mile away and work from home so are available to answer questions or offer assistance at anytime.

We have been off the grid for over 25 years. The hydroelectric generator provides power for three houses so there are a few guidelines regarding use of the high power consumption utilities (oven and dryer).

During the winter months we do our best to maintain the road but do recommend a 4-wheel drive vehicle.

Please note: It is very important to me that your stay is comfortable, so there are a few things I'd like you to know:

The driveway is steep and it's dirt, but easily accessible Spring through Fall in most vehicles. 4WD/AWD, GOOD TIRES, AND A SOLID SENSE OF ADVENTURE ARE A MUST DURING WINTER CONDITIONS (which can start as early as October and last through March.) While I do my very best to make sure the driveway is clear and the house is accessible, there are times when Mother Nature will win the battle. Many guests have parked at the landing area halfway up and have enjoyed hiking in the second half (a few hundred yards). Or, you may have to park on the side of the road at the bottom of the hill and hike in a bit further. Gotta love Montana. ;-)

There is a short, steep uphill walk (takes about a minute) on a trail from the parking area to the house. There is a short staircase to the bathroom and a full staircase to the loft.

Television apps include Netflix and Pandora. You may access other apps with your own account.

The sauna is available September 1st - June 30th. The sauna is closed July and August.

Nature House is the perfect place for solo travelers and couples, but can accommodate up to 4 people. While I adore young children, Nature House is really the ultimate "grown up" and children are not allowed.

The luxurious shower and tub made us feel very spoiled. And it had the best stocked kitchen that I have ever experienced in a rental property (knives, cutting boards, pots, pans, TONS of spices, and stocked with several snacks). The host did an amazing job putting together a space that felt rejuvenating and relaxing. State park is down the road and allowed us to enjoy the lake. Multiple restaurants close by. Tons of cherry orchards and stands. So it is peaceful, but has many options for eating and activities nearby. I would not hesitate to stay again!"

Located 12 min. from Polson this little lake house is all about the water. Each bedroom has lake view windows offering a wonderful breeze and sounds of the lake. We have a washer and dryer and the kitchen is very well equipped. The dining table has an expandable leaf for larger groups but you probably won't use it because you will be on the deck enjoying the awesome view as you grill out. The house is small but more than adequate. It was completely remodeled in spring of 2015. The deck is enormous, the dock is gigantic and the boat house is just awesome with a commercial sized sauna to cook yourself in before you leap into the lake. there is also a kitchenette so you can entertain all day next to the lake. There are 2 adult kayaks, 2 kids kayaks, multiple snorkel sets and 2 stand up paddle boards available at no extra charge, just be sure they are put away safely after each use to keep them from blowing away if the wind picks up. There is parking for your boat at the dock while your present and a mooring buoy for unattended parking and at night. do not attempt to use the dock during rough water, it will result in damage to your boat.
This property is all about the water and having fun with your family. Safety bay is deep and generally very calm hence the name. The perfect setting for enjoying the lake from the dock lounge chairs.

Enjoy a two bedroom luxury condo on the shores of Flathead Lake. A living room with a panoramic view of the lake through sliding glass doors wrapping around the entire front of the condo. You will never get tired of the lake view. Bring your water toys or rent some nearby to experience the beautiful, clean water of Flathead Lake (3 boat rental locations within a mile).

The primary suite includes 2 queen beds, a futon and an en suite bath with a magnificent shower room. The 2nd bedroom has 2 double beds in a bunk format. There is a queen size sofa sleeper in the living room. Both bathrooms have nice tile and handicap handrails. The condo has two steps to get to the front door so it is not considered handicap accessible but there are no additional steps once you enter the home.

The dock is is intended for sunbathing and swimming and is not designed for attaching boats. The Day Use Only Dock may be used for the temporary purpose of loading and unloading passengers or items, any extended mooring of boats or other vessels is strictly prohibited and can lead to a fine.

The dock, waterfront, grass and concrete area in front of the condo is shared with the entire complex. Please be respectful of the shared space by not leaving unattended items, such as chairs or water toys. Please keep personal water toys on the deck of condo #10 and tie items down if it is windy.

If you have a boat, there are two boat access points a mile away. If you need help parking a boat and trailer overnight, I have an empty lot one mile away.

Parking at the condo is limited to two end-to-end spaces labeled #10. Please do not park in any spaces that have a different number. There are some additional unlabeled parking spaces that might be available, 2 at the rock wall and 4 up by the highway.

Smoking of any product is not allowed within 100 feet of any buildings, decks, common areas, and dock. So basically no smoking on the premises.

If the HOA issues fines for smoking, parking violations, misuse of the dock or a noise violation then these fees will be passed onto the renter upon checkout.

Downtown Polson is only one mile away. Major airports are 60 miles away, Kalispell to the north and Missoula to the south. Glacier National Park is 1.5 hours away.

There is WiFi, a smart TV with Roku, air conditioning, a washer and dryer, essentials tools for everyday cooking, and all bed and bath linens are provided.

- "Only improvement I could see them making would pertain to the HOA. The one dock is not enough to comfortably handle all the visitors who stay there. Some days you get big families monopolizing the dock for many hours. A second dock would be nice so as to give more people a chance to enjoy the swimming off of it. The dock is shared with other units in the compound but not a problem for us, met some nice people. The spectacular view looking north to the Flathead Lake Narrows and flanked to the east by the Mission Mountains, greets you when you walk into our vacation condo, which we call Heron's Landing. Located at the south end of Flathead Lake on Polson Bay, the view from this location will surprise you each time you glance out the entire length of windows and sometimes even take your breath away! Great bird watching!

This cozy condo, up two short flights of stairs to the third floor of a 9 unit building, has a private deck that spans the length of the unit, with access provided by five sliding glass doors. On the deck, you'll find couch, chairs, and outdoor dining table and chairs to enjoy the view at any time of the day.

This condo includes two bedrooms, one that we consider a mini-suite, with a king bed, main bath with walk-in shower, walk-in closet, dresser, daybed sleeper, and television. The smaller bedroom has a queen bed, closet, dresser, and television. You'll find a queen sleeper sofa in the living room. (Anyone who takes this option can go to sleep with the glow of the electric fireplace and wake up to the glorious Flathead Lake view!)

A central hall that leads from the foyer includes a bathroom with a walk-in shower. You will also find a closet with a stacked washer and dryer, coat closet, utility closet, and a mini-business center with a wifi printer, scanner, & copier.

The well-appointed kitchen includes a range, microwave, dishwasher, refrigerator with icemaker, dishes, utensils, coffee maker, tea kettle, pots and pans, pancake griddle, waffle maker, crockpot, hand mixer, mixing bowls, casserole dishes, cutting boards, etc.

A bar adjacent to the kitchen includes additional glasses, wine openers, and oversized coffee mugs. We think these mugs, filled with coffee, are perfect for watching the sunrise from the deck. There is a small dining table with an expansion leaf that extends to seat 4 -6 and an extended counter with four stools in the dining area. On the deck, you'll find a small gas grill with utensils.

The living room includes a 65" television, fireplace (perfect for après ski!), sofa sleeper, additional seating, and storage. In the fireplace cabinet, you'll find games like backgammon, cribbage, Jenga, Mastermind, and more.

This well-equipped condo includes wifi, cable, forced air heat and air conditioning, as well as an electric fireplace. You'll find bedding for all beds (1 King and 1 Queen bed, 1 Queen sofa sleeper, and 1 daybed sleeper), bath towels, and beach towels. You'll also find kitchen towels, paper goods, and cleaning supplies. There are many amenities including an iron and ironing board, hairdryers, board and card games, books, and access to streaming services including Netflix and AppleTV.

The condo includes beach access as well as a nice, large dock with seating and an area for swimming. The beach, dock, and grounds are well-maintained by an HOA. The location is well-lit at night, but we've also provided a flashlight to help light the way if you'd like to venture down to the lake to enjoy the view of the moon and stars from the dock.

Montanans enjoy Polson and the Flathead Lake area year-round with winter activities, including both downhill and cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, snowmobiling, and even ice fishing. Summer activities include boating, paddling, swimming, hiking, horseback riding, golf, and... the list is endless!

Nearby (within walking distance and near a stoplight) is a grocery store, hardware store, gas station with a convenience store, marinas, boat and watercraft rental facilities, restaurants, and eateries. The renowned Richwine's Burgerville is .2 miles across US Highway 93 to the south.* The Kwataqnuk Resort and Casino is .6 miles to the west, and the Polson Bay Golf Course is just under a mile to the east.

Exploring Polson
Polson is located on the Flathead Indian Reservation at the south end of Flathead Lake -- the largest natural freshwater lake in the western United States. This charming lakeside community is the trading center for one of Montana’s most fertile farming areas. In a prime cherry-growing region and home to numerous cherry orchards, Polson celebrates with an annual Cherry Festival downtown. Downtown Polson is the site of many other festivities throughout the year, as well as the site of Polson's Farmers' Market.

The broad, sweeping Mission Valley south of Polson is bordered by the rugged, snow-capped Mission Mountains. Located approximately 70 miles north of Polson is the Crown of the Continent (Glacier National Park). Heading northbound from Polson, located along the east and west shores of Flathead Lake, are numerous Montana State Parks available for daytime use or camping.

A luxury camping tent is on the back of the property listed separately or you can reserve it for added space.

A mini-split for your heating & cooling needs will keep you comfortable as you enjoy the leather furniture with a view in a large living room. Shaded picnic table and outdoor entertaining area with a gas grill. Huge dining table for food or social games. Well stocked kitchen with pots, pans and spices. Wi-Fi and a 65` flat screen for gaming or streaming movies with Roku. Outdoor fire pit is usable at this time with seating and some firewood. Yard Yahtzee and croquette are available to play. Adding a Glamping tent this spring, ask for details.

Gas barbecue with the tools needed for cooking. Picnic table, rockers and outdoor chairs enclosed in the big fenced yard with a firepit. Although I do not have lake access from my property, Big Arm Marina is a short walk down the hill and 2 state parks with wonderful docks and swimming areas are both within a mile.

Self check in with an electronic keypad door lock, code given prior to check-in. I will be working on the property projects when not booked. Current projects are the bathhouse & glamping tent at the back of the property and landscaping.

The neighbors are quiet and friendly. Some dogs barking occasionally. There are picnic tables, a boat ramp and boat slips available at the marina. Big Arm boat rental has a large inventory of toys and chartered boat rides to Wild Horse Island or fishing trips. A short walk down the hill to get there. There are 2 State parks with swimming areas and docks within 2 miles

You are 12 miles from a grocery store, the marina down the hill has a small convenience store. There is no Uber available

If you need meal packages I can have the kitchen stocked for you to cook or deliver from Polson restaurants, let me know your requests.
We also have a GlampCamp on the back of the property - the yard and privacy fence provide a good buffer.

- "Excellent location, cozy, with wonderful view. But what truly sets this property apart is that the host thought of EVERYTHING!! The fridge and pantry were stocked. There was every kind of toiletry in the bathroom. There was fresh fruit, candy, and even cold beer (though we don’t drink). There were little “welcome” gift bags for both my husband and I. I have stayed with friends and family members who weren’t this welcoming and accommodating. Highly recommend!!"

Experiencing the western trains rumbling down the valley is a highlight to many campers. (There are no Railroad crossings or air horns near our property.) Just a short 2 miles down the road, a mineral soak awaits you at Quinn's Hot Springs Resort. You can also enjoy a cute, best in the west ice cream shop ten minutes away in the town of Wild Horse Plains, a darling old town which also hosts antique shops, grocery, hardware, hospital and so much more! The old and fascinating town of Thompson Falls and a local Bison range, are less than an hrs drive away!

Our cabin features 2 bedrooms, one queen bed and a twin/full bunk bed. As well as a queen sleeper couch with a memory foam mattress. Smart TV and wifi. Washer/dryer is provided in which we include detergent for your use. In our fully stocked kitchen we provide a full size refrigerator/freezer, dishwasher with detergent, coffee pot and filters.

A note for those who have physical handicaps.
Parking is located right beside the cabin with easy access. There are 2 steps to enter our cabin along with a set of narrow stairs to enter the upstairs loft. The kitchen table chairs are more stool like and are higher then the average chair. If you need assistance to reach higher things, please contact us and we will try our best to help accomadate you or answer questions about the property.

A reminder to our guests that this cabin is near half a dozen more seasonal cabins that are not always being used. There is two track right in front of the property, which is rarely used by others.
