We have updated the cabin in 2021. This historic hand-hewn Log Studio Cabin Rental nestled in a 5 acre organic cherry orchard with outstanding Flathead Lake views. Fully restored with antique furnishings. The cabin is located 15 miles south of Bigfork. The cabin is not located on the water, but lake access is conveniently located about 1/2 mile away at the beautiful Yellow Bay State Park. Designed for 2 people, this 400 square foot log cabin rental has a queen log bed.

The great Covered Porch has rustic log posts that frame the incredible Flathead Lake and Wild Horse Island views. It is a short drive to the Yellow Bay State Park, public beach and boat ramp. Peaceful and private in the Flathead Valley of Northwest Montana.

Built in 1932, this log cabin was hand hewn from trees taken to clear the surrounding cherry orchards. Built as a homesteader's cabin when the east lake shore was a very remote location with few families living at Yellow Bay, and the only access was via a 2-track dirt road.

The cabin has been completely restored, creating a warm cozy retreat with the charm of a by-gone era. Retaining the original logs, floors, windows and aged patina were very important, while adding all the modern amenities one would expect.

The cabin has a queen size log bed, couch (not pullout) and wood stove. Fully equipped kitchen & bath, and a covered porch with gas barbecue overlooking Flathead Lake. There is no tv or phone, which suits most guests just fine. We now have high speed STARLINK WIFI, and cell service is available.

If you ever feel it's time to step outside the bedroom and its spa-like amenities, you'll discover a cozy living room with a propane fireplace, a large guest bathroom, and an elegantly apportioned kitchen with a wall of windows that provide sweeping views of Flathead Lake to the west. The lower level of the residence features a fun, western-themed game room and an additional bedroom and bathroom. Of course, a visit to Northwest Montana wouldn't be complete without immersing yourself in the stunning natural beauty of the outdoors. When you decide to explore the broader region, you'll find that the location is convenient for just about anything you might want to do. Shopping, dining, boat rentals and entertainment are all just a few minutes away in Polson, or you can also head north to explore the equally charming resort towns of Bigfork and Whitefish, or the broader amenities offered in Kalispell. West Glacier and the entrance to Glacier National Park are just 70 miles north of the residence, while Missoula is located 70 miles to the south. But there's really no requirement to drive anywhere to experience the beauty of our area. If you just step outside the residence, you'll find an expansive, multi-tiered deck with a propane grill, a propane fire table, and extensive views of Flathead Lake and the pristine wetlands which mark its southeastern shore. Situated between the deck and the lake you'll also discover our newly planted gardens which begin just north of the residence. As our guests, you are very welcome to explore the gardens, which we have resolved to keep free from herbicides and pesticides. However, our decision to avoid any non-organic chemicals requires that we spend a significant amount of time working in the gardens, so don't be surprised to see us out there planting and pruning in the spring, weeding and watering in the heat of summer, and then harvesting in the fall. The land below the deck also features approximately 460 feet of natural wetland frontage on the southeast tip of Flathead Lake, but although this frontage is very scenic and provides exceptional wildlife habitat, it is not useful for swimming or launching a boat.

The property as a whole is fairly famous in the local community. The southern half of the 6,000+ sq ft building consists of the private VRBO residence where you'll be staying, while the northern half of the building was previously operated as a local bar and restaurant known as "The Lake House". There is a separate one-bedroom apartment located on the lower level below this former bar/restaurant where we, the owners, will stay at times depending on our planting, pruning, mowing, weeding, watering and harvesting workload during the spring, summer, and fall, and depending on the weather during the winter, when commuting an extra 30 miles round trip to our family home north of Yellow Bay can be treacherous on icy roads.

Easy to get to, but completely off the grid, this clean cabin is comfortable night and day with electric heat / air conditioning. Features full-size washer and dryer, and full-time wifi.

Enjoy your morning coffee on the covered balcony -- in your pajamas, if you like! Relax by the creek as you watch the water tumble over the rocks, explore the shaded cedar groves and ferns along the mossy creekside, and let the stress of busy life melt away as you breathe the clean mountain air.

Upstairs features vaulted ceilings with timber beams. Main livingroom, kitchen and dining for 4 are upstairs as well as the bathroom/shower. The balcony overlooks a small pond and fish hatchery that houses Westslope Cutthroat trout during spawning season. Upstairs bedroom has a king size bed with vanity sink and large closet.

Bedroom on lower level has a queen size bed, full size couch and television. There is also a cozy reading nook on the lower level as well as a washer and dryer.

Accommodations are on 160 acres of private land with a creek and walking trails just outside the door. Surrounding area is tribal wilderness.

We live in the main house 1/8 mile away and work from home so are available to answer questions or offer assistance at anytime.

We have been off the grid for over 25 years. The hydroelectric generator provides power for three houses so there are a few guidelines regarding use of the high power consumption utilities (oven and dryer).

During the winter months we do our best to maintain the road but do recommend a 4-wheel drive vehicle.

Flathead Lake State Parks - Finley Point Unit is just two miles down the road and is the perfect place to launch your boat, paddle board, or kayak. Or take a short drive on one of the most scenic highways in the country, along the East Shore of Flathead Lake, and explore the waters and orchards of Yellow Bay and Woods Bay. Check out the galleries, theater, and restaurants in Bigfork… maybe book a sunset sailboat cruise! Head just 8 miles South to Polson to stock up on supplies and grab a burger at Richwine’s Burgerville… locally owned and operated since 1962. Take in the spectacular scenery as you play a round of golf at Polson Bay Golf Course. For fabulous food close to home, check out the Finley Point Grille and the East Shore Smokehouse... they are both just two miles up the street at the turnoff. Getting married? Nature House is only one mile from The Barn at Finley Point and is absolutely perfect for honeymooners! Want to check out Glacier National Park? It's a great day trip from Nature House. An easy 75 miles from Missoula and 45 miles from Kalispell, Nature House is the perfect weekend getaway for locals and visitors alike.

Please note: It is very important to me that your stay is comfortable, so there are a few things I'd like you to know:

The driveway is steep and it's dirt, but easily accessible Spring through Fall in most vehicles. 4WD/AWD, GOOD TIRES, AND A SOLID SENSE OF ADVENTURE ARE A MUST DURING WINTER CONDITIONS (which can start as early as October and last through March.) While I do my very best to make sure the driveway is clear and the house is accessible, there are times when Mother Nature will win the battle. Many guests have parked at the landing area halfway up and have enjoyed hiking in the second half (a few hundred yards). Or, you may have to park on the side of the road at the bottom of the hill and hike in a bit further. Gotta love Montana. ;-)

There is a short, steep uphill walk (takes about a minute) on a trail from the parking area to the house. There is a short staircase to the bathroom and a full staircase to the loft.

Television apps include Netflix and Pandora. You may access other apps with your own account.

The sauna is available September 1st - June 30th. The sauna is closed July and August.

Nature House is the perfect place for solo travelers and couples, but can accommodate up to 4 people. While I adore young children, Nature House is really the ultimate "grown up" and children are not allowed.

- "This house was so perfect. It was not right on the lake, but still had great views. It was quiet, clean, and decorated to create a calming ambiance. The luxurious shower and tub made us feel very spoiled. And it had the best stocked kitchen that I have ever experienced in a rental property (knives, cutting boards, pots, pans, TONS of spices, and stocked with several snacks). The host did an amazing job putting together a space that felt rejuvenating and relaxing. State park is down the road and allowed us to enjoy the lake. Multiple restaurants close by. Tons of cherry orchards and stands. So it is peaceful, but has many options for eating and activities nearby. I would not hesitate to stay again!"

The vacation home has access to a restaurant. On clear days, guests can head outside to enjoy the vacation home's outdoor fireplace or simply kick back and relax. The Lake House features 2 bedrooms, a fully equipped kitchen with a dishwasher and an oven, a washing machine, and 1 bathroom with free toiletries. Towels and bed linen are offered in the vacation home. There's also a seating area and a fireplace. Guests at the vacation home will be able to enjoy activities in and around Polson, like cycling. A children's playground is also available for guests at The Lake House. Glacier Park International Airport is 58 miles from the property.

Located 12 min. from Polson this little lake house is all about the water. Each bedroom has lake view windows offering a wonderful breeze and sounds of the lake. We have a washer and dryer and the kitchen is very well equipped. The dining table has an expandable leaf for larger groups but you probably won't use it because you will be on the deck enjoying the awesome view as you grill out. The house is small but more than adequate. It was completely remodeled in spring of 2015. The deck is enormous, the dock is gigantic and the boat house is just awesome with a commercial sized sauna to cook yourself in before you leap into the lake. there is also a kitchenette so you can entertain all day next to the lake. There are 2 adult kayaks, 2 kids kayaks, multiple snorkel sets and 2 stand up paddle boards available at no extra charge, just be sure they are put away safely after each use to keep them from blowing away if the wind picks up. There is parking for your boat at the dock while your present and a mooring buoy for unattended parking and at night. do not attempt to use the dock during rough water, it will result in damage to your boat.
This property is all about the water and having fun with your family. Safety bay is deep and generally very calm hence the name. The perfect setting for enjoying the lake from the dock lounge chairs.
