- "Next year we're planning to spend a month at the Kapalua Villas after the recent visit in August 2009. It did help to be upgraded upon arrival to a partial ocean view villa where the lush, green grounds as well as Kapalua Bay are visible. Very convenient location for 3 of the most gorgeous beaches on Maui: Kapalua Bay, DT Fleming & Honoloa Beach. Excellent snorkeling at all; saw large sea turtles too. The Kapalua complex offers all the conveniences you need. We never really left the area in a week (having been to Maui several times before) and the only necessity not nearby would be a pharmacy, which is in Lahaina, a 15 minute drive. The Villa itself was outstanding and fully equipped; no need to bring anything with you (except kitchen gloves if you use them). Many wine, martini and mojito glasses for an aperitif on the terrace while watching the sunset from the chaise lounges or a more proper setup with table and chairs. Kapalua Spa: another amenity that drew me to the Villas was the brand new (opened June 2009) spa area that is included with the stay. Stunning views of the sea and property make the whole experience even more luxurious. Large gym with all machines and cardio equip as well as Kinesis apparatus. Spa area is divided for men and women and has only a comunal jacuzzi and infinity pool. Sauna, turkish bath and another jacuzzi is private by gender. Restaurant options abound on the property and although most pricey, excellent food is easy to find."

Tons of space- was perfect for two couples or one couple with two kids. Quiet and free covered parking for one car right at unit. Was very clean. Check in was easy - they texted door code before arrival so no keys to deal with. This unit is a 2-5 minute walk up the hill from the montage spa and also short walk from a few excellent beaches even if carrying beach toys. We would all stay here again for the gorgeous views, level of support if questions or issues, and the unit itself which was spacious, beautifully furnished. "

The rep admitted their resources on the resort would be limited as the workers are busy focused on their own homes and safety instead of working at the resort. So why not a refund? The airlines gave refunds without hesitation. Something awful happened that was out of everyone’s control. Why hold money hostage that could be donated to the residents or reused immediately for other things? Only answer I can think of is pure greed and disregard for their customer base. In my opinion, to take such a hard lined position of no refund at a time like this is capitalistic greed at its core. "

- "This is a long review, but very honest. This property was in a good location very close to whalers village and Kaanapali beach you could walk. The walk there wasn’t too bad, but the walk back up was almost all uphill. The resort itself had some great amenities like full kitchen and had beach chairs and umbrellas which was very nice to have! The room itself was not what I was expecting though. The room we ended up with was facing a burnt down school with our view being of some shipping containers and the school yard, not a garden view that we booked. Also the first night in my cousin was locked out of her room because her door had a broken lock on it and we were unaware of that. We called their customer service the next day and they were very kind to move us to a better room. The new room was very beautiful and had a great view. The only downside to the new room was we had a cockroach problem. We found 3 dead cockroaches and there was 1 live cockroach running on our patio. Also the noise level was very loud. It’s close to a main road and the walls were very thin. The people above and next to us were very noisy and could hear every movement. I know that’s not the resorts fault, but still something to consider if booking. Overall I would not stay again or really recommend to anyone if they are expecting a 4-5 star stay. "

Other things to note
The place right next to the beach. You can see the ocean on the left side from the porch.
The check in fee is $75 when you go to the front desk to check in. They will give you the tag for your car. If you do not have the car it’s not necessary to do.

The space

The layout:

Bedroom: Ocean view from this room. California King size bed, dresser, 2 nightstands with usb chargers, TV with cable, ceiling fan, and sliding lanai door access that leads to lanai. There is also a digital safe for your use.

Bathroom: accessible from bedroom or living room and features walk in shower, single sink vanity, fresh towels, and luxury organic bath products courtesy of Stay Aloha.

Common area: Ocean view open floor plan consisting of a fully equipped kitchen, dining table for 4 people, Smart TV with cable, pull out queen sofa sleeper, and sitting chairs. There is a closet with beach gear which consists of beach chairs, umbrella, and cooler only.(NO snorkel gear)

Stay Aloha provides a generous essentials starter kit. This includes laundry, luxury organic bath, and kitchen essentials. We do not drop extra. There is an Aloha welcome gift for you upon arrival as well.

***There is construction going on at this resort for stucco repair on the building. It does not disrupt any of the amenities like pool, fitness center, lobby, elevators, etc.***

The Royal Kahana has a beachfront swimming pool, beachfront BBQ area, complete on-site fitness room, ping pong table, shuffleboard, and an onsite Activities Center/Concierge. Across the street is Kahana Gateway Center, a small shopping center with restaurants such as the Maui Brewing Company. McDonalds, Whaler's convenience store, a gas station, a coffee shop, souvenir shop, and ATMS are also located in the Center.

Parking:

Please keep in mind that while we do not charge a resort fee as most on Maui are now charging; the resort has implemented a parking fee that is payable upon check-in at the resort. The fee is as follows:

$18.00 per day plus taxes

We do have a $75 Damage Insurance Fee that covers up to $1500 in damage for our guests. Accidents happen and we have you covered.

Beach information

*The beach fronting the Royal Kahana experiences seasonal ocean current changes that influence the beach’s physical appearance and size. During the fall and winter, it is not uncommon that these currents sweep away a very large amount of sand, which will gradually return back in spring and summer, based on the ocean's current activity. Our HOA, The County of Maui, and the State of Hawaii are working diligently to return Kahana Bay to its full potential.

This circumstance, unfortunately, affects the accessibility of our valued guests to the beach. While there may not be, at times, direct access from the property to the beach during the fall and winter season, there is a public beach access within 5 minutes walking distance. Photos taken on 1/16/2023 show useable beach, but this is not guaranteed.

PEST CONTROL AND ROOSTERS: Due to Maui’s rural location you may experience the occasional rooster, as well as harmless geckos. Geckos are friendly, eat insects, and are considered good luck in Hawaii. Please don’t kill them. The HOA schedules regular professional pest control services for pests such as ants, roaches, and rodents however they cannot be completely controlled in this part of the world.

Hawaii is located in a tropical climate, and insects, rodents, and lizards flourish in this environment. If our guest spot more than the normal expected pests, we always make our best efforts to contact and work with the HOA to minimize your interactions with these pests. Our units are meticulously cleaned and inspected. Any contact with such pests within or outside the unit does not constitute a breach of this Agreement or give Guest any right to any refund or rental adjustment.
